Lake Erie Monster (Great Lakes)

Unlike any IPA/DIPA I've ever had. Starts very fruity and boozy and finishes hoppy.

Definitely worth picking up a 4 pack.

The "Champagne of Beers" for me tonight. I was in the mood to explore a few country roads, so I went for the cheapest thing they sold in a 24 oz. can at the corner store.

Pizza Port just opened a couple blocks away from me. Sunday night I had these drafts:Port OB Newbreak Pale Ale. Very solid pale ale. Glad it is being brewed just blocks away. BNew Belgian Eric's Sour Ale. I've been drinking a lot of sours lately. I wasn't overly impressed with this one. It was good enough, but I won't seek it out. BDecshuttes Jubel 2010. Bought a bottle of this awhile ago and then decided to just age it. Now I wish I would have bought a couple more. A lot going on flavor wise and it tastes like it will develop very well. ALost Abbey Angel Share. I've had this beer a few times before. Great beer. This is the best smelling beer I've ever smelt. I'd buy it just to let it sit around and smell it throughout the night. Tastes great too. B+ (the Brandy aged is an easy A)...and the took a growler home of Port Solona Beach 4th Anniversary. They called it an American Strong, but it tasted like a killer DIPA to me. AAlso, the other day I had the Dogfish Head/Victory/Stone Sasion De Buff. Saison brewed with, wait for it.... Parsley, Sage, Rosemary, and Thyme. A lot of Rosemary on the nose. Just a great blend of spices on the tongue. Not the least of which is HOPS. I read Saison, parsley, rosemary, blahblahblah... But the hops really do this beer good. You don't get to them right away. Too much of the other spices (good thing, not bad thing). The finish is all hops though(another good thing). It was so good I wanted to chew it. I heard you are suppose to age it 6 months. I'm picking up a case.A+
:football: I've had the OB Chronic, the Jetty IPA, and the California Honey. Jetty IPA was my favorite.

Last night was:

Horseheads IPA: Very small brewery, here in Upstate NY. It's much closer to a "West Coast" style IPA. Pretty well balanced and much stronger than I expected (8%) since there was almost no alcohol burn whatsoever.

Southern Tier 2XIPA: Not a huge fan of the Southern Tier IPA but I really liked this one. Great Citrus finish. I'm ready for another one of these tonight.

Love it. As far as IPAs go, it'd be in the Top 3 along with Racer 5 (Bear Republic) and Titan (Great Divide).

Horseheads IPA on tap or bottled?I've heard it's better on tap, but I've only had it bottled. You from the Ithaca area?

Bottled. I picked up a 22 oz. at a beer place in Ithaca this weekend. I probably should have driven the extra 20 minutes and went straight to the Horseheads Brewery but that'll be for another weekend. I'm in Binghamton so it's only a 45 minute ride to Ithaca.

Gotcha. I could've probably googled the 607 area code (is that what that is?) but was too lazy.

607 also includes Ithaca (and Horseheads) so it really wouldn't have helped. If anyone is looking for fresh Ithaca or Horseheads Brews, I'd be down for a trade BTW.

Had a fresh Flower Power earlier. Delicious.

Great Lakes Lake Erie Monster now - this one is on the way to being infected. Anyone else crack one in the last few days? I had one about a week ago and it was fine. Hopefully this is just a bad bottle, and not indicative of the whole batch going to ####.

Over the last couple of weeks:

Red Tail Ale

Red Tail Eye of the Hawk

Anderson Valley Boont Amber Ale

Anderson Valley Summer Solstice

Lagunitas IPA

New Belgium Ranger IPA

Stone IPA

Green Flash Imperial IPA

Rogue Shakespeare Stout

Stone Imperial Stout

:)

I usually like bigger flavored beers (newcastle, sam adams, anchor steam etc) but in the summer, you just gotta have something a little lighter. Used to like some canadian beers when i was younger, notably moosehead and molson. I hit up on some Labatts Blue Light for 7.99 a 12er(same price as bud, lite, coors). Tasty and refreshing with more flavor than a domestic light. The only drawback i have found is the bottle is only 11.5 ounces. Good summer beer.

Got a case of the Newcastle Summer Ale (this is new this year, right? never seen it before). It was okay, not near as good as the brown ale IMO, which is one of my favorites. Probably wont drink it again, certainly wont buy a case of it.

will be high life light for me for a while. They had it mislabeled for 9.98 for a 24 pack at the liquor store with a free state fair ticket to boot. I couldnt resist buying a few.

Local brewery, Christian Moerlein, just put out a new IPA, Northern Liberties. Not bad, but not very hoppy. It's cheap around here though, so I'm sure I'll grab it again at some point.

Southern Tier Farmer's Tan

average

had to try it though cause it's new. Drinkable, because my girlfriend is enjoying it too. A little too sweet for me for the style.

Last night was the mother of all nights for me, Canadian Breakfast Stout, Consecration, Pliny the Elder, Supplication, Yeti, Kentucky Breakfast Stout, and La Fin du Monde as a nightcap.

A buddy of mine owns a couple local bars, he is cellaring barrels, which included the Yeti and CBS. He was planning on aging the Candian for 4 or 5 years. Well Thursday night one of his bartenders mistakenly tapped the CBS instead of a Blue Moon barrel. So he posted on Beer Advocate about the tapping of the CBS to draw some attention, in addition he also decided to tap the Yeti, Goose Island Nightstalker, and Great Divide 16th Anniversary Wood Aged Imperial IPA. The Russian River was compliments of another friend who shared with others within the bar. Not all of my drinking last night was whole bottles, but more shared products with others. Huge fan of the Canadian Breakfast Stout.
