I drank this one night at the Grove in Los Angeles out in the market area at some little throw away tap bar that had maybe 5 or 6 beers tops but Delirium was one of them. It was Christmas Season and I had no where to be so I just sat down and had my fill of this. It's a lovely way to spend an evening.

I'm drinking Copper Kettle Brewing Co.'s Snowed Inn oatmeal imperial stout aged in bourbon barrels with coffee and chocolate (10.6% ABV). This beer is pretty phenomenal. It has flavors of semi-sweet chocolate, roasted coffee beans, vanilla, oatmeal, bourbon, oak, and a touch of cinnamon. It is actually very reminiscent of Founders Breakfast Stout, and, although I've never had the pleasure of a Founders KBS, I have to imagine that this beer is one of the closest comparisons on the market. I'm really impressed with Copper Kettle. They have gotten some good press recently including a recent review in the BeerAdvocate magazine of their Mexican Chocolate Stout, which won a GABF gold medal in 2011.

I had a bit of a beer catastrophe earlier this week with my Boulevard BBQ. I accidentally left the bottle in the backseat of my wife's car last Tuesday -- a night before a big snowstorm hit Denver and the temperature dropped into the single digits. I got an angry text from my wife on Wednesday about a bottle of beer that froze and exploded in the back seat of her new car. I was really looking forward to drinking that beer. I'll have to see if I can find another bottle somewhere.

It was. Only something like 2 dozen bottles shipped into my district and I like in Michigan. The best new beer I have has in awhile.

I had a pretty wild night of beer drinking tonight. I went to a Christmas beer festival at Bull & Bush tonight. The owner of Bull & Bush apparently has an extensive cellar of Christmas beers that he breaks into for this event. The festival had an insane variety of Christmas/winter-styled beers in bombers and single beers, many of which had been aged for years. There were beers from as far back as 1977. Some of the older beers I had included a 1980 Thomas Hardy's, a 1988 Sierra Nevada Celebration, and a 1989 Anchor Brewing Special Ale. I just never thought I'd have an opportunity to drink beers from the 80's. It was interesting trying the same beer, except for a difference of a decade of aging. It was crazy stuff and a lot of fun.

Gingerman is awesome. I was in Norwalk last year a couple days before Christmas Eve. Great brunch. If they had NFL Sunday Ticket, I might consider moving to that town.

I got a 4-pack of The Alchemist Heady Topper imperial IPA (the #1 rated beer in the world on BeerAdvocate) during a white elephant gift exchange for my work holiday party. I couldn't believe my eyes when I opened it. One of my female coworkers had one her friends from Vermont send her some Heady Topper for the purposes of the gift exchange. It was definitely the best white elephant gift I've ever seen.
I, however, apparently did not disguise my excitement well enough because another coworker ended up stealing the Heady Topper from me, although he was at least generous enough to let me take home one can for myself. I feel like I'm emotionally torn between feelings of gratitude for him giving me a single can and feelings of wanting to punch him in the face for stealing the 4-pack from me in the first place. In any event, I'll be drinking my first Heady Topper tonight. I'm pretty pumped.

I can't help you with a recommendation Otis but would say be careful, especially if he's a real beer guy. A friend of mine got one of these from his wife, and he more or less gets 12 bottles of donkey piss every other month. There's a whole new breed of crap beer out there masquerading as "craft" and I think they've tapped into the beer of the month club market.

Is there a local brewery around maybe you could get him on the "mug club" if they have one? Usually these members get a mug and varying perks as well as a feeling of identity with the brewery.

Yes, my friend got one of those and ended up just pouring most of them out. The whole beer of the month thing seemed to be a gimmick to move crap beer.

I do love my family. We met for Christmas in Chicago tonight and I got GI Bourbon County Stout and a bottle of Eagle Rare. Good stuff!

A little thin. Wimpy head. Need more bubbles. But the taste was excellent. Left a little sweet note in the back of my throat. Went down rich, smokey and a hint of chocolate and almonds. I like malty and may have called this a Scottish Ale in a blind tasting. Will have again.

I had Firestone Walker's 16th and 17th Anniversary Ale tonight on draft at a bar in Denver. Both were fantastic, but I preferred the 17 to the 16. I also feel like I preferred the 16 when I had it fresh last year as opposed to after it aged for a year. I love the complexity of Firestone's Anniversary Ales that you get from blending different styles of beer, and I feel like I missed some of the flavor complexity from the hops and barrels in the aged 16. I love big, bold, aggressive flavors in both beer and food, so I'm not sure that I appreciate the mellowing of flavors in aged beers as much as some. I may just be telling myself this to justify opening my bottle of 17th Anniversary Ale instead of aging it like I was considering.

Had a Black IPA when I was in FL over the weekend (Funky Buddha in Boca) - sex panther, solid name. Pretty good, never tried or even heard of that style of beer before - interesting - worth a taste. Anyone familar with this style and have other recommendations?
