What kind of beer is everyone drinking tonight? (6 Viewers)

Brewed up my Blood Orange Hefeweizen last night. We shall see what it's like in a couple of weeks. Also found out about a spruce beer made in Canada from Christmas tree's. Might have to look for it if it's available anywhere
Below is a beer using pine needles brewed in northern wisconsin.

I knew exactly what beer you were referring to before clicking the link. That one was, uh, different.

I'm absolutely locked into Firestone Walker Pale 31. If I'm buying at the grocery store, it's the only one I get. Great beer at $6.99/6pk

Different how?

That Blood Orange Hefeweizen sounds interesting. Let us know how it turns out. Avery released a Fall Day IPA this year, which was brewed with spruce needles from Colorado. I'm pretty sure it was only available on tap at the brewery and was not bottled for distribution, but I thought it was pretty tasty.

2 year old bottle of Pilgrim's Dole tonight. I've been waiting forever to be in a big wheatwine mood. Well, it's about 10 degrees out, and I don't have to go to work....why not?

Stout night (so far)

Great Lakes Blackout Stout

Left Hand Nitro Milk Stout

Devil Made Me Do It (not a stout but a porter I guess)

Obsidian

On a side note, I have actually seen some 3 Floyds on the shelf for more than 2 days even though the stores only get a case or 2. I think with so many good options now with Surly, Ballast Point, Sucks and more it's pretty replaceable. When I talked to the store owner's wife, she said that others are saying the same thing. Not sure what I am really getting at besides it's a good time to be a beer drinker in Chicago. And not having to go to Indiana for some of my favorite beers is nice too when I have the taste for FFF. That includes Dust though the markup is $5 a sixer.

Who sells Surly in Chicago? Can you get Furious?

Having Greenbush Star Chicken Shotgun IPA.

Binnys had a ton of it and now the local stores are getting supplies of Surly. I had a case of Furious myself so far, so yes...if you can find it. It sells out quickly. Binnys seems to get the largest allotment of it.

Was gonna be a wine night and it still might but I finally figured out my new keg system for my homebrew so drinking a homebrewed holiday porter that is really good. So much better in kegs than having to bottle.

My wife and I put together a beer tasting event tonight for New Year's Eve. I'm sure there is no way we will make it through everything, but here is our lineup for the beer tasting.

Nice lineup. Just the two of you? How's the hangover?
We had a couple friends over. It was a lot of fun. We did a bunch of blind tastings and then tried to identify the beer from the beer lineup. We brought back a bunch of beers from our holiday travels to Pennsylvania and Florida, so we had a bunch of stuff that we don't normally get out in Colorado (Founders, Troegs, Terrapin, etc.). It's always fun introducing people to new breweries/beers.

My liver is definitely not pleased with me. My hangover is also accompanied by some serious flu symptoms, so I'm feeling on the verge of death today.

I loved it. Best pumpkin beer out there.
Have you had Good Gourd and Dogfish Head? I can't pick between the two but they're outstanding. Having the Dogfish Head now. The last of a four pack I thought company finished was hidden with condiments in the door of the fridge. That made me happy.

I see a few mentions of Devil's Backbone from 5 years ago in this thread but nothing since. Came across their IPA in MD over the summer and then had their Schwarzbier and Vienna Lager over the weekend in Annapolis. Thought they were all really good.

Then I see that they won small brewer and small brewpub of the year the last 2 years at GABF: http://www.dbbrewingcompany.com/default.aspx

Gator, can you not get Almanac?

Christo, if you want to trade for a couple bottles, let me know. They are still around my local beer store.

Not GG. But I've had DH and there's no comparison.
Well then I better put that on my wishlist.

Also found an Allagash Dubbel Reserve hiding in the fridge. Finished the Punkin and just poured. Damn, not my type. Says it's Belgian style and has a 94 rating @ratebeer. Too much from the hops and a copper flavor. Some of you IPA doofuses will love this... too bitter... too much work... ale.

It improved dramatically on its way up to room temperature. Still far better out there for the money, but at least I enjoyed finishing it.

Central Waters Satin Solstice Imperial Stout: good, but nothing memorable. At 7.5%, it's pretty light for an imperial stout

Smuttynose Big A IPA: a really drinkable DIPA

Likely more to come as I stay in and avoid the snow and subzero temps.

Odell Mountain Standard

I think this is the one brewery I'd really like to see start distributing in Chicago (besides Alesmith and Russian River and Indeed).

:banned:

Stone Crime and Stone Punishment.

Bourbon casked aged Arrogant and Double Arrogant Bastards. Oh me oh my I'm in heaven.

Drinking regular Coors, aka the banquet beer. I was in the mood for something that reminded me of when I was 16 and taking one of my dad's beers from the fridge while my parents were out. it actually is not that bad, but maybe it is just me being nostalgic.

It's pretty damned good.
