Wow, this is bad. Poured with absolutely no head at all. Flat malt taste with a hint of vinegar. I think I may have gotten a bad bottle of this, as the reviews aren't that bad.It's Thursday. Where are the beer drinkers?

Sounds like a bad quad - had a couple a while back and never got any vinegar out of it.
Just popped open a 2005 Terrapin Big Hoppy Monster Imperial red ale. Great "Big Daddy Roth" style hotrod on the label, which is appropriate as this stuff pours like Valvoline.
Ohhhh, man, is this good. Hoppy but huge malt as well. Like someone took two Smithwicks, condensed them, then went ape with American hops - I'm getting Cascade, Amarillo... Diggin' it, big time.

I'm shuked about the quad. The lack of head clued me in that something was not right. A good Belgian always comes with a nice headSounds like a bad quad - had a couple a while back and never got any vinegar out of it.

. Yeah, I like the Big Hoppy Monster. As was mentioned earlier, by you I believe, the South is putting forth a good effort, and Terrapin is a brewery that is leading the charge. I look forward to their seasonal offerings. I've noticed you have had some North Carolina brew. Have you tried the Highland Tasgall?

OK, so I'm not sure how to proceed here. Either you're asking me if I'm going marry bakes or someone. Or you remember the question I had for bakes about Pittsfield. Being an optimist, I'll assume the second choice.
Any potential move to Pittsfield is undecided right now. We have only had an informal talk about moving there with the company involved. It never even got to the plannign stages or anything past the first 30 minute conversation. I know it got escalated to a manager, but nothing came of that yet. So we'll see. If we go there, it would be for my wife's job. I would just move up my timetable to go live with my trading account. As of now, I am set to launch in Q2 2007. But any changes to my wife's work status at her current job would accelerate any plans to move.So right now, it's on hold I suppose.

Hell yeah - have a bottle of the Tasgall somewhere in the beer room from my last trip south a month or two back. Tried it with a bud of mine in DC and he was seriously impressed. I've always liked Highland's brews, especially the Gaelic Ale and Oatmeal Porter. The Kashmir IPA could use a bit more oomph IMO.I've liked the Edenton brews when fresh (they go south in a hurry), and Carolina Brewing has made some very good seasonals over the past couple of years. Duck Rabbit makes a couple of tasty session brews... things are DEFINITELY turning up beerwise in the mid-Atlantic.I'm shuked about the quad. Definitely sounds like a bad bottle. I've had several Koningshoeven beers, and all have been pretty solid. Never had the quad though.Tonight, just a bomber of Rogue Hazelnut Nectar. Quality.

The thin dude on the label passed away last year. He was well into his 80s, maybe his 90s. The dude with the glasses still visits the brewery on a regular basis.LOVE that brewery.

Not a bad little town at all. GREAT brewpub - serious close-on-Victory-quality beer and the food is excellent - and the Berkshire Museum is fun for kids. Plus you're within 90 minutes of just about any beer you'd ever want to find - hell, Route 10 from VT (McNeill's) to Southampton MA will take you past seven breweries/pubs and two world class beer bars - and the scenery is stunning.And, umm, I'm taken.OK, so I'm not sure how to proceed here. I appreciate your affinity for small regional or just citywide breweries. I actually had an excellent Belgian Wit from a local brewpub tonight. Hack, if you are still reading this thread, you would have liked it. But there is so much good and fresh beer out there that is often time brewed within a few miles of your home.The only Edenton for me that has stood out somewhat is the Big Boss IPA (although it still has balance issues). I totally agree that the Highland IPA is lacking, but overall they are a pretty good brewery (granted they contract brew some of their stuff). I've been impressed with Duck Rabbit. A good brown utilizing Amarillo hops that stands out a bit from other browns. As well as interesting takes on the Milk Stout and Imperial Stout. Yeah, as people in this area get used to good craft beer, our local scene will only get better and better.Hell yeah - have a bottle of the Tasgall somewhere in the beer room from my last trip south a month or two back. I have a better idea - head over to Ocean Township for the Heavyweight open house on Saturday. They're closing in July (going to try and start a brewpub/beer bar in the Philly metro area) and if you haven't, you *need* to try Tom Baker's brews. Smutty is worth the pilgrimage - plus the Portsmouth Brewery, a brewpub affiliated with Smuttynose and which has, among others, NE brewing legend Tod Mott at the controls of the brewhouse (he's the one levitating), is nearby and worth visiting as well.I have fallen in love with the beer. Back at ya. Gotta support the local beers and brewers. So many excellent little places out there, some of which are the working life dreams of a few dedicated people, that just fall into the background noise. Which brewpub in Asheville? I need to hit that town sometime for a few days - it's like a beer mecca in the mountains. Hell, I picked up the BHM at the Ahseville Wine Market when we were screaming through (literally - you had to hear my daughter) towards Gatlinburg.

Ok, tonight ended being an excellent beer night. Started off with a Surly CynicAle, then to Delirium Tremens on tap, then an Old Horizontal, then Rogue Mogul on tap and finished it with another Surly CynicAle. What a great beer night.
I am going to say it right now, when Surly finally bottles, they are going to be big in the craft brew circles. I am talking maybe FFF or Stone or Dogfish big. Their beers are that solid and they don't care about what the norm is.
