What's crossing the line (1 Viewer)

I posted this prank in the FFA, to mixed reviews, so I was seeing what you sharks think?

Last night I cut a story from a previous arrest, changed the dates, and posted it on our website (cbssportsline) with a mug shot and the works. Then called the Moss owner and left him a voice mail saying I just heard on the radio that Moss was arrested and the guys on the radio were talking 4 week suspension. I then offered him Crotchery for Moss straight up.

So late last night he leaves me 2 voice mails trying to figure out what's going on, and right now he's freaking out because he can't find the story anywhere on the internet.

Now he just wrote this..."If Steve's article is false, which I think it is, I am moving forth to fine him $15 for a False Information Fine." Awesome.

Shark move or classless?

Thanks, will answer yours!

Waste of your time.

Like anyone in their right mind would believe one article, posted by you, followed up by a trade offer from you invovling the guy that was arrested.

It sucks if the other guy makes the deal based on one story. Its fine to mess with him but its going to far if you allow him to pull the button on the deal

 The first part is just making a joke and messing with the guy  , making the trade with him would be pulling a scam.

I have used this joke before but would never, ever go through with a trade based on it. That is a low budget move.btw There used to be a website that would generate false player articles and a URL for jokes like this. Is it still around? Anyone have the URL?

were you just messing with the guy or trying to actually get that trade accepted?
Messing with the guy. But would have gladly taken Moss, had the trade been accepted. FWIW, I play him this week.
Then you weren't just messing with the guy. You're afraid of your opponent so you're trying to weasel out of playing his best guys. The article you posted is part of the fun, but the phone call is a little creepy and the trade offer is lame. I suggest you stop stalking your opponents and focus on your own team before you become "that guy" in your league (if you aren't already).

had he accepted the trade and you woulda said "haha your busted , I was just kidding" it would be cool but if you were planning on keeping him and calling it a "shark" move, I think your wrong and its just scandalise. Theres no wit or savy in lying to someone outright.

Generally, if you have to ask if you're classless, you are.
:lmao: I would have accepted the trade? I guess that right there tells everyone where you pegged out on the integrity meter. 0

There are people who actually play FF with you?

Lighten up Francis. If your leaguemate was enough of a ####### that he accepted the trade, he deserves to get ridiculed.

If he wants you to pay a $15 false information fee, he should pay a $25 whiner/sucker fee.

It's not too funny, but not a bad ha ha I got ya prank. Lying to the guy and then keeping the player seems really stupid because if you are the commish, odds are the rest of the league will kick you out. If you aren't the commish, odds are he will reverse the trade.

Granted the guy is stupid to not research and such, but some people are not quite so super nuts about FF as a lot of people on here.

Maybe he's taking the opportunity to pull your chain in return... In one of my leagues everyone tries to send bogus reports to generate panic - mostly it doesn't work because everyone is suspicious of anything said on the website by anyone in the league.

Not a bad prank, but when you cross the line and keep Moss (if he would have accepted) then it turns into a 100% ##### move. Life's too short to voluntarily hang with guys like you, ya know?

If you actually would have accepted Moss in a trade, then you are a pretty petty, pathetic individual when it comes to competition, which often states a lot about a person's character in general.

While technically legal, this is beyond shady and deserving of no respect whatsoever.

You could say that again.Oh, I see you did.

Why did you settle for a mock article? Why not disable his Internet connection, barricade his house, jam all radio frequencies, then beam satellite footage of a mock ESPN sportscenter including the same fake story?

Does that cross the line?

The reactions I've seen in this thread are the reason many people stay away from the SP these days. Settle down people, it's a Friday.

I have been able to do this in one league to great effectiveness. My dynasty team in that league has a starting lineup of:

Peyton Manning/Carson Palmer

Tomlinson

Larry Johnson

Joseph Addai (flex)

Chad Johnson

Steve Smith

Roy Williams

Antonio Gates

Adam Vinateri

Baltimore/Chicago

Bench includes:

TJ Housh

Steven Jackson

Brian Westbrook

Donald Driver

Marion Barber III

Jeremy Shockey

I rule!

 Oh, wait, it is not allowable to laugh or even post if in any way you do not show complete and absolute respect to the New England organization.Hater.

The joke posting aside is nothing new in FF. But to actually say "I would keep Moss" Thats leads me to believe there are other intentions other than HA HA gotcha. Guy comes here asks people for their opinion, he gets it, and your the monitior of our opinions? OK joke police. Do you work for TBS? Should we call you if we see something that maybe funny and you will let us know? Appreciate it.

A fake post is no big deal... It's cool in leagues on CBS, it clearly says your name and shows your logo as the poster... Thats fine...The fact you called him and tried to offer him a trade is more than classless... I would consider a stronger punishment then what the other owner layed out. And depending on how much of a ##### you are, might even kick you out of the league...

Now, if this isn't a money league... not as big of a deal as far as a penalty goes... but still not a cool move.

We have a full disclosure rule in our league (similar to a physical before a trade goes though) so if you catch that your player is hurt and try to trade him and don't disclose the injury you get the trade voided and fine levied

The way to pull this off with being a total scumbag is to first make the trade offer and hope that he sits on it without rejecting it immediately. Then somehow post a false story about a season ending injury or something and let him try and screw you. If he accepts the trade after the news breaks he is just as guilty.

:lmao: Kind of silly for folks to do all the character assassination over something this unimportant

Maybe my leagues aren't as hard core, but I wouldn't want to be involved in FF with a bunch of guys who think this is fair play. I also believe that the emphatic way of responding leaves no doubt that this is not a gray area thing with the majority of the board. Of course some go over the top, but that's going to happen with a small percentage of people on any message board.Maybe it's me, but I don't think it's ALL personal. I think it's mostly a way of communicating how strongly people are against this type of action. :lmao:

C'mon Jerk the only thing wrong with the OP is that he suggested that IF the trade were accepted he would accept it. But that didn't happen and the guy who got tweaked is overreacting because the joke worked and he got sand in his ###### over it.The fake injury joke is as old as fantasy football. Nothing wrong with it at all.

Here's a similar trick that worked with cbssportsline, at least as of a few years ago when I did it:

The "add an unlisted player" feature on the add/drop page allows you to create and pick up a player not listed in the cbssportsline player database. You can, for example, create and add a player named "Brett Favre" and list his team as the Packers and position as QB. You will then have that player on your team, although his player page will have a generic shadow silhouette rather than a picture of Favre, as the normal player pages have. Of course your "Brett Favre" (or whoever you create) will not be tied to any real NFL player and won't score any points. You can then offer your fictitious player in a trade to someone for a real player. This would obviously only work with someone who doesn't pay attention very well to the league.

I did not actually execute a trade using this trick, but did add my friend's wife as a player on my team (WR, Packers) and offered him a side bet that I would beat his team that week starting his wife as my WR. I consider this all in good fun and part of what makes FF worthwhile.

OK, now that's just hilarious. :blackdot:

I didn't say I had a problem with the joke. I said I would prefer not to play with people who would accept trades made due to bogus information. There is a difference. I like good, fair, tough competition, but if winning and losing ends up correlating in any way to being the best con artist, it ceases to be interesting to me. Even if I'm the only one who feels that way, I'd hope you would support my right to that position. It's really the old different strokes for different folks concept. That's all. :lmao:

What a great environment to play FF in! This was my point, posting bogus reports is very High School but maybe you are in High School.

Chaka,

What it comes down to for me is that if you are in a league that thinks trading off of misinformation or fake players is funny and fair game, that's fine. If that's the culture of the league and makes it both more fun and more interesting, knock yourself out. It's just not my proverbial cup of tea.

I've been in two long-term leagues. One has a lot of trash talk and the other does not. I'll engage in trash talk in the one league, and with some of the owners who I've known since college, it can go on all seaon; but I wouldn't think of doing it in the other, where it would be out of place. I enjoy both leagues pretty much equally, but they are enjoyable in a different way.

You know what would be priceless? The guy pulls the scam, gets Moss... and them Moss promptly blows out his knee, while Cotchery enjoys a Pro Bowl season, leading the other guy to the fantasy title.

I am pretty sure that Randy Moss would disagree with this being priceless.

Do you quote Stripes in every post? Or is it just a coincidence that both of the posts I saw from you today had that quote in it?
