What's your favorite song from the 1980s? (1 Viewer)

Lol... Yeah true. I guess I feel like if it got played on a radio station with commercials it was a  "pop song"
Big Country was definitely played on the "hits" stations I listened to in the 80s. There was virtually no "alternative" music on the radio back then in most places, except for college radio.

Talking Heads and New Order I would not call "pop", though they were popular bands.

SF had two commercial alternative stations that played all this bands c. 1985, and at least two fantastic college stations that were playing them earlier in the decade. But yeah... the AM hot hits stations there may or may not have been playing them.

Centerfold

run run away

our lips are sealed

big country

blinded me with science

As posted multiple times, there are too many from the 80's to pick just one.    This is why I like my Sirius-xm radio - I have the 80's channel as one of the presets....

It's ironic because I used to say the 80's music sucked, but that was 30 years ago.   If you were to ask me about the 90's though....

One of my 80's must listens when come on:  "Don't Dream It's Over",  Crowded House

Take on me

Africa

Boys of Summer

Burnin' down the house

Sweet Dreams

I ran (flock of Seagulls)

Personal Jesus

Take me home tonight

The go go's (anything)

And the sleeper of the group that I think is awesome : Holding out for a hero.  Love that song.

In the 80s I danced more times to New Order's "True Faith" than any other song and second place isn't close.

Edit to add: if that's too "new wavey" I'd go with Superfreak

It is IMPOSSIBLE to pick just one, but a handful that were favorites growing up that I still love to death include...

The Boys of Summer - Don Henley
Synchronicity II - The Police
When Doves Cry - Prince
Come Dancing - The Kinks
Shout - Tears for Fears
Don't Dream It's Over - Crowded House
Gypsy - Fleetwood Mac

And the biggest problem is that I don't even know a lot of the time.  I'll go back and forth.

Take The Cars for example.

Early stuff:  Pop? New wave?

Later on: Pop? Soft rock?

If we're talking 80's high fructose pop syrup:

Dress You Up - Madonna

The Reflex - Duran Duran (Girls On Film is my favorite of theirs, but I don't consider it as poppy)

Crush On You - The Jets

Dead Giveaway - Shalamar

Not quite as high fructose:

Jungle Love - The Time

The Glamorous Life - Shelia E.

Sugar Walls - Sheena Easton

For me, nothing was more (early) 80s than the Michael Stanley band. If you were a high school kid in NE Ohio/NW PA at that time, you probably had one or more of their albums. This was one of their better known songs. They were a regional act, selling out show in the Cleveland area for the most part.

On the other hand, Pittsburgh had Donnie Iris who is still considered an icon all these years later. Ah! Leah was the song that most everyone knows him by.
Cabin Fever (1978) was their best work. Great songs that most people have never heard.

Didn't get as much play, but I liked Synchronicity I better than II.

Not sure if it was related to growing up near Boston, but always thought of Aimee Mann as a great singer, and I loved the video to this great song.

The run of 80s pop played at my wedding reception:

The Safety Dance - Men Without Hats

Come On Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runners

Our House - Madness

Goody Two Shoes - Adam Ant

Let's Go Crazy - Prince
