When bad offenses happen to good RBs (1 Viewer)

We all know how it goes in fantasy football: we're always biased toward guys in great offenses and against those in bad ones. makes sense and personally I've always been one of the worst offenders. Gore and LJ seem to be the latest examples- top 5 talents falling to the second round in a lot of drafts.

But can anybody think of examples of RBs who had really good years with bad QBs like O'Sullivan and Croyle and/or bad O-lines?

Do we put too much stock in supporting cast?

Didn't Thomas Jones have a good year with a bad offense before getting from the Bears?

Willis McGahee or Jamal Lewis when on Ravens.

I don't think it happens much but with a very talented RB it can happen. A mediocre RB in a bad spot like Benson just looks atrocious.

Gore was top 5 in a bad offense in 06, but it clearly held him back last year. Gore vs Portis and Gore vs Lynch is a tough call this year.

I don't think we put too much stock in supporting casts - when we do rearview mirror analysis of RB busts, supporting cast is often the culprit.

I managed to grab Gore in the first round and LJ in the second round of my draft yesterday. Not the way I was planning on doing it, but my tie-breaker between Gore and Portis was fantasy playoff schedule. Gore has the Jets, Dolphins and Rams. Looked good enough to me. LJ was just too talented to pass up on. He was overworked in 06 with 450 touches. I think his sweet spot is 350 and that's what I'm hoping for this year.

However, since I didn't plan on grabbing 2 RBs on bad teams, it forced me to take more RBs earlier than I normally would. I backed them up with T Jones in the 4th, E James in the 6th, C Taylor in the 9th and A Bradshaw late. I'm feeling safe now in case one of my top 2 go down or drastically underperforms.

The fact is that some offenses are going to struggle to move the ball and score points. And I disagree with people calling LJ a top 5 talent but that is for another day.

There is a difference between bad QB's and bad offenses. Look at AD playing with Tavares. Also, the same is true with LT and Phillip to a degree.

There is a difference between bad QB's and bad offenses. Look at AD playing with Tavares. Also, the same is true with LT and Phillip to a degree.

I think with LT he's referring more to Brees before he got good - he was pretty bad before Rivers came to town - and Flutie back in the day... not sure who else the Chargers were throwing out there at QB back then, but it wasn't pretty. Back when the Chargers were perenially terrible, LT was pretty much the only player on their offense that was good, but he still up great numbers.
