Where are you getting your music these days? (1 Viewer)

I'm a little behind the times. I was in on the ground floor of the Napster trend years ago. Then LimeWire. Then the Russian site AllofMp3(dot) com. Over the last couple of years, I'd use the site youtube-mp3 (dot) org, which would turn music videos into mp3s.  I've tried that site a few times recently and it says it's 'under maintenance", which makes me think that perhaps its been shut down.

So where are guys getting your music?

I pay for a monthly Pandora membership so I don't get commercials. I stream that in my car quite a bit as well as at home. I listen to a lot of live shows as well either at panicstream.com or archive.org

I have little to no interest in "owning" albums or individual songs, I can listen to genres of music I like on Pandora, skips songs as I please all commercial free.  I actually like not knowing what is coming next.

I have Spotify premium....similar to Pandora.

I can save any song/album I want to for free,, and listen whenever I want

I like Pandora a lot. I've been using it for a couple of years. I've never paid for a membership so I get commercials. I feel like they've increased the number of commercials within the past year or so but I don't find them to be too annoying.

Pandora. I don't mind the random commercials. I also listen to the radio in the car. The occasional YouTube for a deep cut or complete album.

Napster (formerly Rhapsody). $9.99/month. It's like renting songs. The only service I'm aware of that lets you put your unbought songs onto an external device (in my case, an MP3, cause I would burn thru phone battery too quickly if I did it from my phone). Have a phone app as well. Large library. Can buy the songs if that's your thing. Best bang for your buck IMO. Especially if owning songs you may or may not get sick of later on isn't your thing.

Apple Music family subscription for $15 a month.  Love being able to listen to anything I want whenever or wherever I want.  I'm good with renting my music these days.

Spotify does the same. Make your own playlists, listen to others related to bands you like or set up by your friends. makes playlists for you based on what you've been listening to, also provides a playlist weekly off brand new music based on what you like.

I was a big music nerd in the old days... This makes me feel like those days, without having to thumb through racks of records. Has changed my music life in big way. And I use the free version, just have to do best ignoring the commercials.

This is what I do, though I'm thinking of changing to Spotify Premium because of the library.

Any punks out there familiar with the availability of underground tracks?
Old stuff is hit or miss, but new stuff is amazing.

Start with free to check the library.

Not sure what you mean by "underground tracks", but I've found some mixtapes/self-released music from various artists to not be available on Spotify.  I agree that Spotify Premium is by far the best $10 I spend every month considering how much music I listen to, but I miss listening to some of my favorite "underground" mixtapes from some hip-hop artists that aren't available on Spotify because they're not formal releases.

What makes it better than Pandora subscription?  I use both free services but am thinking about shooting the locks off my wallet and diving in. How much per month?
I believe 15 a month will get a family pass (up to 4 devices at a time). I have no idea how pandora works but Spotify is a library of about every song ever made that you can search through by artist, song, album, genre. You can make your own playlists. They make suggestions based on what you listen to, they have awesome curated playlists you can follow. They have an audiobooks, foreign language courses, comedy albums. If you can listen to it, its there commercial free. It's like you have every recording ever made.

Sorry for the confusion, Tasker. I meant something along the lines of 45 releases from punk bands rather than hip hop mixtapes.

The Red Dons, The Rip Offs...

anything on these labels...

Rip Off Records, Sympathy For The Record Industry, Estrus, Crypt, Lookout! (really important one and probably N/A), and I'm drawing a blank at the moment here.

Also I've found the extreme high quality setting is fantastic. With high quality headphones, it sounds near flawless.

Never heard of them but The Good Disciple rocks, listening now...now Heat Seeker by the Rip Offs. It seems like there's a couple albums from those 2 bands. Not sure if they are missing a lot or those bands just had a small output.

I'm not sure what a Pandor subscription comes with.  I use Spotify premium because you can download your playlists and listen to them off line. I pay $10 a month.

@rockaction loving the Red Dons. Thanks for the recommendation. Another reason Spotify is the best,  it's so easy to discover new music.

Cool. They're a Wipers derivative, but excellent, IMHO. The Observers were the first iteration of their collective.

Paralyzer, by the Observers, here at 18:15 is awesome, and a little rawer than the Red Dons, if you're into that kind of thing.

Xm and the music choice app I get included with my xfinity sub.

But mostly listen to podcasts now

Somebody needs to lay out the differences between the various streaming apps. I thought Pandora doesn't let you make your own playlists... But my info is really old.
