Where are you getting your music these days? (1 Viewer)

So you can download any song and keep the mp3?  And copy it to other devices?
It's not downloading per se. Wherever you have the app, you have access to all of your playlists and all the songs available to Spotify. But you can't play them outside of the app.

Google Play for $10 a month.

Not that I've taken a deep dive to compare all of the various services, but iTunes, Spotify, Google Play and even Microsoft Groove are largely indistinguishable as far as I can tell; if someone can point out a significant difference amid these various services, chances are they will continue evolve and eventually present the same exact service.

Anecdotal - since I subscribed to Google Play a couple of months ago, it seems like I see a LOT FEWER ads on the YouTubes. Not relevant if you are the person who does not spend too much time on YouTube.

Technically, I think you can download songs and playlists for the convenience of not burning up your data plan, but what you download is thoroughly tied to your device and the app. You can't just stash 50,000 songs onto an external hard drive and possess and play the songs for eternity. Not something I have thoroughly explored, so I'm quite possibly wrong about this. Just working off of what I consider is a safe assumption.

that's right. you can play your playlists offline... but not outside of the app. you don't "own" the songs.

I typically buy a CD at the show - you get a chance to talk to the band, get a signed copy of a CD at full sound vs mp3 and they get paid the money. I've come to know a few musicians during the years and the streaming guys are ripoffs. It's getting rough out there for most musicians and it would really be cool if people paid them well so they can feed their families and make more music.

Listening - I listen to WWOZ mainly and archive.org for new shows of my favorite groups.

Spotify premium but have begun to try Amazon music since I am a Prime member it's free for me. Wife got an Apple watch so may have to go with Apple Music since it's the only service you can download music to the watch from.
