Bread
Noodles
Potatoes
Rice

That’s the order. Pizza is too important for bread to not be at the top. Noodles have too many varieties to not be 2nd. I love potatoes but they gotta slot in 3rd. Rice can be replaced with something else in just about any recipe.

Let me be the first to say that I'm really glad we don't have to actually make this choice, and I am grateful that we have the luxury of enjoying the variety of all four. This reminds me of that British show "Naked Attraction" where the contestant views four people from the neck down, and has to eliminate one at a time based on various physical features until they're left with their date. I had a really hard time deciding which to vote for, changing my mind repeatedly. I decided it was easiest to work "backwards" and focus on what would be easiest to live without. At first, bread seemed easy to eliminate, until someone mentioned pizza. Then, I thought maybe rice. But, that eliminates a lot of foods... Chinese, Thai, sushi, etc. Pasta? I don't know.... I love homemade lasagna, among other things. Finally landed on potatoes. Fries, baked, mashed? Didn't even think about chips. Ugh. This is harder than I thought.

Finally voted for bread, assuming pizza crust is included in the category. But, it's super close for me. Love them all, which is probably not a good thing. I just think there are more foods I'd miss if I didn't have any form of bread than the other options.... Pizza, burgers, various sandwiches, etc.

Really surprised the leading vote-getter is potatoes, honestly.

We’ve had lists of 50 best noodles and 50 best sandwiches. Where’s 50 best potato or rice dishes?
A guy lives a long time on this board. Every topic has been discussed, dissected, analyzed, and pulled apart from every angle. But once in awhile….maybe every 20 years or so there is something that tips the globe on its axis.

Where…indeed…is the list for the 50 best potato or rice dishes? The time is now, people.

Does everyone understand that none of these are appealing by themselves?

The only thing that makes any of these great is what you put on them ... or cook them with.
Would anyone eat pasta / noodles without sauce? ... or butter? ... or in a broth with some flavor?
Could you eat a baked potato dry and call it delicious? ... mashed potato is good because butter / cream. A french fry or potato chip is only good because of the oil it is cooked in and salted.
Rice? Edible as a side dish or when seasoned. Plain rice is blah.
Maybe bread? I love a good rye or sourdough ... but much less without butter. Restaurant bread without oil and parmesan? Pizza crust without sauce & cheese?

"I like bread because Smash Burgers and Pizza"
"I like rice because Pulled Pork"
"I like noodles because Lasagna"

I'm picking potatoes. It requires the least amount of accessories.

Yeah, those are pre-cooked in oil before they freeze them.
... but yeah, def the least amount of accessories needed. Oil, salt ... and I'm in.
Also potato chips. Plain Lays. Nightly. One of my many weaknesses.

I also have four kids. This is like making me pick which one I like the best of those four. They’re all amazing. What a silly question.

Actually, wait, I can do that. It’s the 8 year. I still can’t decide what to pick in this poll, though.
