How old is Don Shula?
He was born January 4, 1930. So, he's 84.
Sure, NOW he is. Maybe the game is played in 2311, or 1520. We don't know. OP needs to be more specific.
:goodposting:

OP should've included more details. As usual, you bring the insightful stuff we want to hear... Game takes place October 21, 1989 - now you've got the Juice!
Cool. 1989. So 1989 rules, that will help the Dolphins defense a little. Please refer to above post so we can all know how old the teams are and so on and so forth. I presume the refs are from a 1989 crew? Or what?

I'm wondering why anyone would actually care. The comparison's aren't linear right from the get-go and then we see folks get into mini-debates/arguments as to how to best make them linear. It's an exercise in futility.

WHy'd you read the post then?

It's a fun thing to discuss. I would assume nobody knows for sure that they are 100% RIGHT about their prediction.

I would like to think I am right that the Jags would win pretty easily, but really, who the F knows for absolute sure.

Jags 52 - Fins 3

And Jags call off the dogs midway through the 4th quarter. Several Dolphin players are hospitalized.

Man, I'd really like to see this game.

I keep thinking about the difference in coaching, and scheme variations we have today. There's been 40 years of innovation in offensive and defensive coaching. The Jags have seen every play the 72 Fins will run. The 13 Jags could run an entire game plan of plays and schemes the Fins have never seen.

If the Jags start using a 4 WR set, with MJD in the backfield, throwing back shoulder throws, and WR screens, bubble screens; the Fins heads's will be spinning. High percentage stuff Henne could do in his sleep. For fun, they run two tights, and bring in Denard or Ace Sanders at QB, run the wildcat, then some read-option. The read option with Denard at QB would work all game long. By the time the fins coach figured out the read, Denard and MJD would both have 150 yards. Then they go play action to Marcedes Lewis, as physically imposing a TE as the 72 Fins have seen.

Meantime the Fins come out in a traditional offense, with a game manager at QB. Inside to Csonka, where the offensive line in finding out what 315 pound defensive tackles look like. Outside to Mercury Morris, who doesn't look particularly fast to the Jags defense. The Jags will be able to throw a new look on almost every play, that the Fins haven't seen. Zone blitz schemes with corners and safeties coming in from all angles. Meantime, their reads just got a lot easier. Two WRs and a pedestrian TE running routes.

1972 Shula didn't know as much as 1983 Shula, and I think that makes a big difference.

Alright, this is getting silly. We obviously need to hold this game in an alternate reality.
I am not so arrogant to think that our reality isn't already an alternate. There must be a better reality than this one, right? :scared:
Since this thread is full of fantasy anyhow, why not see where the rabbit hole goes?

A number of theorists are beginning to wonder if we're not already living in a virtual world. The line of thinking is roughly;

"With continual improvements in computers, we know it is or will be possible to set up virtual worlds indistinguishable from the real thing.

And when that happens, there will be more than one virtual world being run. Millions. Maybe billions.

So, what are the odds that what we experience today is the one 'real' world out of millions of virtual worlds? Pretty small."

I bet the proposed game has already happened. ;)

Non-existent Jag fetuses? 65 year old 72 Dolphins team? Or do we pick up the 72 team in 72, drop them off in 89, then pick up the 13 team and drop them off in 89? How long do they have to prepare?

The 0-16 Lions just beat the '72 Miami Dolphins 63-7, that's what this place would have you believe.

From that link:

2008 Lions offensive line

• TE Michael Gaines 6-3 280

• LT Jeff Backus 6-5 305

• LG Edwin Mulitalo 6-3 345

• C Dominic Raiola 6-1 295

• RG Stephen Peterman 6-4 318

• LT Gosder Cherilus 6-7 315

1972 Dolphins defensive line

• LDE Vern Den Herder 6-6 250

• LDT Manny Fernandez 6-2 250

• RDT Bob Heinz 6-6 265

• RDT Jim Dunaway 6-4 277

• RDE Bill Stanfill 6-5 250

Soooooo, yeah.

This is an idiotic debate ... what we should be discussing is caveman vs. astronaut. :stirspot:
Simple solution, don't join in... Sorry that a hypothetical debate comparing different eras doesn't meet your standards. We'll go back to the drawing board and try to brainstorm some ideas that might be more to zftcg's liking, I'll report back shortly.
Here's a suggestion: How about debating fantasycurse42's humor impairment?
