Why Didn't the Republican Party Save Itself? (1 Viewer)

I really disagree with this. I’ve listened quite a bit to Steve Schmidt, Michael Steele, et al and I believe their goal was genuine and, IMO noble: to eradicate Trumpism from the GOP and from the United States. Have they succeeded? In part. Trump got trounced, he’s been stained in history by another impeachment (well deserved and the Lincoln Project had nothing to do with that), he’s not ever going to be President again. On the other hand the GOP remains Trump obsessed and radicalized. But one step at a time.
This has nothing to do with Trump other than he gave these guys the vehicle with which to enrich themselves.  I'd point to the financial expenditures as the proof.  It appears now roughly 60% of all spending by the Lincoln Project went to the firms of the co-founders.  That part probably makes them no better nor any worse than most politicians, but it's hardly a noble goal.  Let's call it for what it is, a business move.  I said it earlier, I'm all for making money and they pulled that part off so I guess in some ways they are to be congratulated for that.  I'll tip my hat even if I didn't agree with them.  The part that is inexcusable to me is turning their backs on a pedophile to do it.  I'm sure these guys were against Roy Moore as well, rightfully so.  But that shows exactly their motivation.
