We need to settle this. Do you guys want to draw an arbitrary dividing line across the country? Or are we dividing along civil war lines? The last snow sucks - you are tired of shoveling, the snow is dirty, you are depressed from looking at clouds, in general it sucks. In Charlotte, we get one snow storm a year... the snow never gets to the sucky stage.Otis said:I don't disagree with any of this, except that I think the weather in the north is great. Culturally, its different. I'm not one to say NY cusine, for example, is better than Carolina or Louisiana, that's a matter of taste, imho. I suppose NY has more arts (theatre, for example) if that's what you are in to, and certainly better schools, although the south is not devoid of upper-calibre universities.
If money wasn't an issue, I'd rather live in the north, personally. As it is, I'm happy with how far my dollar stretches in Charlotte. I like my 20 min commute, my big house, and proximity to friends and family. I like being 2 hours from mountains, 3 hours from the beach, and a simple 4-5 hours from Florida.

Holy sheet, you are crazy. Nothing gorgeous about Maine in the winter. Sub zero, parking bans, ice, snow drifts over your car, everything is grey/dingy brown. Used to live there, you can freaking have it. Get the snowblower tuned up for 100" of snow and more snow into April. Let's pick teams before we figure out who wins. Because I concede, if we only get New York and you guys get the entire rest of the country, life here is miserable, we don't stand a chance. That said, if you're stuck rolling out Atlanta and Houston in your starting lineups.... esh....

It was earlier suggested to keep it East of the Mississippi, but I don't think you're going to get the South to agree to exclude Texas. Let's use your link and do Blue vs Red and split up the Yellows. Missouri goes to the North and Kentucky, West Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, DC go to the South. Since the South is going out to Texas, I'd say the North can claim Nebraska and the Dakotas if they want. And the South can also get Oklahoma.
There you have it.
I'm pretty sure a state should have an SEC school in it to be considered part of the South.Culturally how is MD in the South???
It kinda depends on the criteria used to judge "better" no? For example, CLT is stuck between the 2nd/3rd largest banking city in the country. Given the financial boost that it provides without all the traffic and people, some would consider that a "win" for Charlotte. I do tend to agree with the issues that ATL brings, regardless of the criteria though. They are certainly a "please stop helping" sort of city IMO.That's not really helpful. About a year ago, I was looking for a change in jobs. Found that pay was higher in the south when compared to cost of living. Not sure "jobs" is all that clear. Then I question the "education" one as well. If we're talking about private institutions of higher learning, I'd concede. However, if we're talking about public institutions of higher learning, it's probably the south (or push at worst). If we're talking about K-12, it's definitely the north.Weather - South

Well, for example, my exact same job in the exact same company living in NY pays 10% more in NYC, however, cost of living was 20-25% higher in NYC. For me, that translates to a net cut in money for me. Sheer volume of jobs, you're absolutely correct. Not sure how meaningful that is though.Where is the majority of high-paying jobs?
