Why do we keep putting up with the South? (1 Viewer)

So when Otis arrives (probably still on his way to work), he'll want to compare the top cities again. Nothing in the South is going to beat NYC, so we should just throw Jacksonville at it and take the L. I assume he'll launch Chicago 2nd. That's also a tough matchup, so we can go with Little Rock and take another L. After that, I think we can start using our good cities (DC, Miami, NO, Nashville, etc.) and get a few Ws. It's going to be tough to win the Cities battle, but we can make a good effort.

If we get down to smaller cities, Charleston and Savannah are going to kick ###.

I'll take New Orleans over New York any day of the week and twice during Mardi Gras.

I am going to disagree with BB on the education thing. There are some really, really good schools in the south. UNC is one of the best public systems in the country as one example. And be careful with the broadbrush on k-12. Lots of really good school systems in the south. Obviously some bad ones as well. But people might be surprised at some of the northern states that lose the literacy race to southern states.

How much has the South improved since Northerners started coming there? Kind of ironic that Southerners are calling it a victory when they're more or less being colonized by the North.

ETA: I am somewhat skeptical of the report, however, because Lexington didn't even make their top 10 in Massachusetts. In most surveys I've seen, Lexington is always in the top 5 state-wide. Families move here especially for the schools... once their kids graduate, they move to a lower-rent area.

You have to hand it to Texas, when oil was just getting started they put their money in the future. Other parts of the South have just never considered early education important though. There are definitely some excellent state college systems though.

Downtown DC and it's most urbanized/dense areas are North-like. The rest, IMO, is more South-like. Anecdotally, I think a lot of DC's black population who moved from DC to PG decades ago are starting to head further down to Southern Maryland. At least that's what my white Charles County friends complain about.

I definitely get a Southern vibe from Louisville. Reminds me of what Nashville used to be. It's a city on the rise.

Plus, they say "Lou-vull" which is clearly Southern.
