Why do we keep putting up with the South? (5 Viewers)

So when Otis arrives (probably still on his way to work), he'll want to compare the top cities again. Nothing in the South is going to beat NYC, so we should just throw Jacksonville at it and take the L. I assume he'll launch Chicago 2nd. That's also a tough matchup, so we can go with Little Rock and take another L. After that, I think we can start using our good cities (DC, Miami, NO, Nashville, etc.) and get a few Ws. It's going to be tough to win the Cities battle, but we can make a good effort.

If we get down to smaller cities, Charleston and Savannah are going to kick ###.
I'll take New Orleans over New York any day of the week and twice during Mardi Gras.

Suppose you love family. You love family so much that when it's time to marry, what could be more natural than hooking up with somebody you've known forever? But some communities might scorn you for such a liaison. You need to find somewhere that is warm and accepting, where the term "in-bred" is not spoken of in disdain, but as a source of pride. Where can you go?
Delaware.
You can get a pass from me. You're OK.

If there's a top 15 for the country, I'd take 6-7 in the top 15 over 3-4 and them being in the top 5. Agree with this plan

I am going to disagree with BB on the education thing. There are some really, really good schools in the south. UNC is one of the best public systems in the country as one example. And be careful with the broadbrush on k-12. Lots of really good school systems in the south. Obviously some bad ones as well. But people might be surprised at some of the northern states that lose the literacy race to southern states.
How much has the South improved since Northerners started coming there? Kind of ironic that Southerners are calling it a victory when they're more or less being colonized by the North.
Assimilation, not colonization.
So economy, jobs, property value and an increase in ATPM* all coincide with Northerners(and as BB pointed out...Westerners) taking the South over and you call that assimilation? Face it, Cletus.....cheap land.....Northerners hoodwinked and beat you guys...AGAIN!. If you Sons of the South aren't complaining about the Northern Invasion already (and I know most of you are)....wait until a few years when we really ramp it up....Search your feelings...you know it be true.

It baffles me that you Northerners claim some sort of educational superiority.

You're going to stack UNC up against all the Ivys? Come on.
The Ivys are overrated. 8 schools, take out Brown, which is a joke, that leaves 7 (and Cornell is a close call). UNC, Duke, Vandy, UT, Tulane, Rice, UVA are all in that class (or better).
William and Mary

I declare Maryland to be neutral and both a Northern AND Southern state.

We combine the high incomes, good schools, and high taxes of the Northern states, with the great seafood, decent weather, history of farming, and friendlier people (friendlier than most in the North anyway) of the South. I am of course excluding Baltimore from all of the above.

Because they are spoiled brats, thats normally why i dont like them. Entitled snobs...

Fwiw, Tejas has some of the top public high schools in the country according to US News.

ETA: I am somewhat skeptical of the report, however, because Lexington didn't even make their top 10 in Massachusetts. In most surveys I've seen, Lexington is always in the top 5 state-wide. Families move here especially for the schools... once their kids graduate, they move to a lower-rent area.

We'll make improvements to Baltimore. It's a city with good bones, so it can easily be turned. Since the Chesapeake Bay is so important to the South, we'll need Baltimore to be a really important city.

The you're I corrected. The Tooths were an attempt to engage with words a Southerner might feel more comfortable.

Are there good schools in the South? Sure. But trying to argue that South beats the North in higher education generally just causes you to lose credibility, IMO.

"Tooths" is a reference to a word, and therefore the reference is singular in that sentence. Can you guess what form of the verb "to be" should be used in that instance?

PG, Mont, Howard and Balt city are North. Everything else is South.

For what it's worth, Shining Path was one of the smartest dudes around, and he was from New Orleans and was a Birmingham resident.

See, we go both ways.

If you threw out the Ivies, you'd probably have a fair fight.

Per that link the #1, #3, #4, #6, and #8 high schools in the US are in the South. Man, our education sure does suck down here.

Edit: The north doesn't show up until #9.

You have to hand it to Texas, when oil was just getting started they put their money in the future. Other parts of the South have just never considered early education important though. There are definitely some excellent state college systems though.

What makes PG County North? I think it is more Southern.
I think it's an extension of DC, which is very North-like.Why would it be South?
Downtown DC and it's most urbanized/dense areas are North-like. The rest, IMO, is more South-like. Anecdotally, I think a lot of DC's black population who moved from DC to PG decades ago are starting to head further down to Southern Maryland. At least that's what my white Charles County friends complain about.
