Just wondering what everyone thinks will be the lowest scoring teams this year? The first ones that come to mind are the Browns, Bucs, and Raiders.

I am not that low on the Raiders. Bucs are a mystery because of the QB situation. Browns didn't get that much better. I don't like the Bills (the O-line is horrible) or STL (injury bug is already here...).

The Raiders should at least have a running game. I put STL toward the bottom. Their offensive personnel are dreck except for SJax and the injured Avery. SJax won't be able to do a whole lot by himself.

Fun stat I learned today: the Browns haven't scored an offensive touchdown since week 11.

St. Louis is my bet for #32.

Cleveland started Ken Dorsey in most of those games they didn't score a TD in last year, so I don't think they'll be quite as bad this year.

broncos, ravens
No to both. No matter how bad Orton is, Clady/Hamilton/Weigmann/Kuper/Harris/Graham/Scheffler/Royal/Moreno/(Marshall?) is far too good of a core for the Broncos to be a bottom-scoring offense. Besides, that terrible defense means they'll be in a lot of shootouts. The Ravens had the 11th best scoring offense last season, and look objectively better this year with the maturation of Flacco and Rice alone.Redskins are also probably a bit of a stretch. Their defense should give their offense plenty of short fields, and Campbell/Portis/Santana Moss might not be the sexiest set of "triplets", but it'll be enough to keep them out of the basement.

Not as bad as "no offensive TDs for six consecutive weeks" can still be pretty darn bad.

Seattle is slowly creeping onto this list for me. Their offense ranked #25 in points-per-game last year and, despite the addition of TJ at WR, their offensive line is falling apart in the pre-season.

Per Dodds, in his excellent "Eliminating the Suck" post, here are the bottom ten:

Cleveland Browns

Oakland Raiders

Detroit Lions

Baltimore Ravens

St. Louis Rams

Tennessee Titans

New York Jets

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Kansas City Chiefs

Washington Redskins

I disagree with Titans and Ravens, but only because of their run game.

Also, what do these ten offenses have in common? Trouble (or at least uncertainty) at QB.

Wrong...we started Bruce Gradkowski too. :lmao: While the TD-less streak is embarrassing who was under center cannot be ignored. The offense shouldn't be great, but I think it will be average. Whether the team is competitive or not depends on the development of the defense.I think the lowest scoring offenses usually come via a combo of bad defense and bad offense. I'm looking at Kansas City, Oakland, Detroit, Tampa, and St Louis right now. Washington could be a dark horse...and of course those teams that get attacked by the injury bug early. For example, teams that have to resort to starting QB's like Ken Dorsey and Bruce Gradkowski.

I'd put money on the Rams being at the very bottom. The Browns will be bad, but they also have a lot of young guys that need to see the field. I could see a lot of the Browns' games turning into glorified scrimmages in the fourth quarter and their young guys scoring some garbage-time TDs late.

49ers, ...thtas almost a lock. Check Jimmy Rayes history as a playcaller. HES HORRIBLE. Bottom 20 rankings for more than half the teams and his carry over from year to year is very low.

I don't think the Raiders are going to be that bad on offense either. I do have to agree with the Bucs, Browns and Rams. While I'm concerned about the Bills "O" line, I think the no huddle will mitigate some of the issues that they have there so long as Edwards remains healthy. I could see the "O" line problems creating an impact in Seattle, but I can't see them slipping as far as those 1st 3 teams.

Bottom 10:

Rams 11.2

Raiders 11.9

Browns 12.2

Bucs 14.6

Chiefs 15.8

Lions 16.1

Bills 16.5

Panthers 17.3

Redskins 18.0

Jaguars 18.1

Rams, Browns, Bills for sure.

Maybe the Cardinals depending on Leinart.

I like the Lions and 49ers to be decent (if not very decent) on offense this year.

Bills will be the worst in the league IMO.

I think Jake and the possible emergence of Harrison as a real threat will keep the Browns O from being horrible, but probably still bottom 10.

How could you list the Ravens as bottom 10? They may be in the top 10 by the end of the year.

Cleveland and Buffalo stand out. It is not necessarily a bad strategy to avoid EVERYONE from those teams.

St. Louis will again have some problems, but may not be quite as bad as Cleveland and Buffalo if Bradford develops quickly. And they still have SJax.

browns, broncos, chiefs, rams, redskins, niners, ravens... no specific order
Not a bad list here, although I would remove the Ravens and Skins. I think the addition of McNabb and Shanny will make this offense move out of the bottom 10. I also believe Flacco takes another step forward and adding Boldin moves this team up and out of the bottom 10.I would replace the Skins and Ravens with the Bills and the Bucs.

Just so you know, that list is from 2009.

to me it is any team with a non-prolific offense combined with a defense that can't get the other team off the field.

Last year the Falcons were fortunate to have an above average offense, however the defense caughed up more 3rd downs than anyone.

It is a function of time of possession- how many minutes does your defense give you out of the 60 to score.

Man, I hate that I read this whole thing only to realize it is a year old. I know I should mouse over the thread title before I open one, but how about we let people know up front???

Top (or is that bottom) five candidates :BuffaloTampa BayClevelandDenverWashington
It took all the way until post #17 for someone to mention the Bills...I guess my expectations are lower than most.CRAP...just saw this is a year old. And to think I thought there may be hope for Buffalo yet. Oh well--back to my 3-13 expectations.

I guarantee that won't happen.20 players on IR last year, 2-5 in games decided by a TD or less.**** Jauron is gone. That is worth 5 more points a game right there.

The Bills have nowhere to go, but up:

Bills Camp Report

Excerpt:

The more I study this defense, the more impressed I am with it and the players' effort. Last year the Bills gave up just 20.4 points a game and had the second-ranked pass defense (184.2 yards per game). They may have to be even better this year. When you consider the Bills had one of the worst third-down offenses in 20 years and forced the defense to go back on the field after three and-out series constantly, it was not praised enough.
