I suggested them very early on as a really ideal fit.Any chance the Chargers trade for him?
This has been in place for 3 days now, reportedly. Maybe not to that level of specificity, but yeah. Nothing’s changed. In Pittsburgh 93.7 The Fan mentioned that the Steeler's have a trade in place with the 49'ers per Micheal Silver San Francisco Chronicle. A 2nd and a 3rd waiting on 49'ers. Personally, I think the Steeler's should walk away. Steelers are the only team in the mix that's not named 49'ers.
They can try!Can the Niners have the highest paid LT, DE/Edge rusher, DT, RB and also 2 different $25M+ WRs?

They don't HAVE to pay Purdy until 2026 technically. By then, Hargraves will be gone and possibly Trent Williams as well. CMC will take less if he's still playing at that point. Brilliant negotiating - offer him the same as, or less than the 49ers reportedly offered. The Pittsburgh Steelers were reportedly a call away from landing wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk in a trade with the San Francisco 49ers. However, new details about the situation have shed light on the hold-up of the talks. The Steelers offered Aiyuk less than $28 million annually for a new contract. The offer has pushed Aiyuk back to the contract negotiation table with the 49ers. It appears that Aiyuk may not be able to get the top-of-market contract he seeks after all. Aiyuk is coming off a career year in which he caught 75 passes for 1,342 yards and seven touchdowns. He is due for a new contract as he enters the fifth year of his rookie deal. Aiyuk has not participated in training camp or the preseason while he seeks a new contract. For now, fantasy managers will need to monitor whether the Steelers will increase their offer or if Aiyuk will come to terms with the 49ers.--Quincy Milton III - RotoBaller

Yep. Can't they just sign him to a 4 year 4 million dollar contract with a 100 million dollar signing bonus? His cap hit would be 1 million each year for 4 years, but he gets paid. The cap can be manipulated, but at the end of the day you have to pay the piper. If it was easy, then Tyreke Hill would still be in KC and Aiyuk would be signed.

Sometimes there are extra years that clearly won’t happen at the end of the contract. That lengthens the contract and makes the hit each year less. However, when the player is cut or the contract is manipulated, the rest of the signing bonus that hasn’t hit yet is due. However, the cap is higher at that point because it is years down the line.
You may be thinking of how when a team needs cap space for this year, they change their salary to a signing bonus. The player gets the money up front. And whatever the salary is, say 20 million. It’s spread out of the life of the contract. Say 4 years. Then that is 5 million for the next for years instead of 20 million this year. Creating 15 million this year. It’s essentially, the team kicking the can down the road, hoping the salary cap will get higher so that money is not as big of a deal.
No problem. I’m sure the way I understand it is a simplified version of it and its way more complex. But pretty sure I have the basic concept down.Love the clarification. Its why I hang around here. I think how they work around it is to make voidable years (player option) at the end of the contract for a low dollar amount. then when they turn some of the big dollars early in the deal to a bonus it spreads to those years that inevitably disappear. That is not correct. So Aiyuk, and Chase and CeeDee are all going to sign after the third preseason game, right?
Right?

NBD - still 5 days away from our draft, everything will be fine, none of these guys will be susceptible to soft tissue injury due to lack of practice
add in CMC's calf and Jah's hammy, we're only talking about 1/3 of the first round
everything will work out

Depending on who you draft with and your league settings and you can add Puka to that list and Jefferson with his qb situation. That is half the first round picks with pretty significant question marks.
And then you wake up like this. And you may ask yourself, "How do I draft this?"
And you may ask yourself, "Where is that large wide receiver?"
And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful team"
And you may tell yourself, "This is not my beautiful stud"
Oh, shoot....sorry, just woke up.....had a weird dream I was in a 44 page thread about nothing....
I agree that they can sign Aiyuk and Purdy, and I think they will sign both--although I do think it's possible that Aiyuk decides to play out the year, if he wants 30/year. We don't really know how strong his conviction is. One thing we already know is that he isn't purely about money, otherwise he would be in NE right now. Money that actually gets paid to the player never disappears. So if you add voidable years to the end of the contract, the signing bonus will be spread into those years, but when the contract ends, there will be a salary cap hit to any portion of the signing bonus remaining on the contract. There may still be ways to have that remaining hit spread over two years (post-June 1 cuts), but it will always be accounted for.I think how they work around it is to make voidable years (player option) at the end of the contract for a low dollar amount. then when they turn some of the big dollars early in the deal to a bonus it spreads to those years that inevitably disappear. That is not correct. (someone correct me if I got this wrong)
Bosa had 3 sacks in the first 8 weeks of the season. He admitted that not having training camp set him back several weeks in regard to being in game shape. After the bye in week 9, he had 5 sacks in the next 3 games.Bosa had kind of a crappy season. Started slow, looked sluggish for much of it. Many attributed this to his holdout.Nick Bosa last year.
Bosa had a great 2023 season (all PFF data below from regular season only):
- Tied for #2 in PFF defense grade (92.7)
- #3 in PFF pass rush grade (92.6)
- #3 in pressures (95)
- #4 in pass rush win percentage (22.3%)
- Tied for #10 in stops (38)
So yeah, it took him a while to get back to his usual self after the holdout.
You must have missed where I said he started slow.Bosa had kind of a crappy season. Started slow, looked sluggish for much of it. Many attributed this to his holdout.Nick Bosa last year.

That doesn't have anything to do with how Aiyuk will perform, of course.

Because he did. And it was attributed to his holdout.

He played well.I'm sure it's true he wasn't as prepared at the start of the season due to the holdout, but he still played very well throughout.

The 1994 Chargers were 9th in points allowed and 14th in yards allowed. They also gave up 49 points in the Super Bowl. Elite is probably overstating it. The Dolphins defense only needs to be league average as long as their offense is elite (which they were last year, at 2nd in points scored and 1st in total yards). On the back of elite defenses, which Miami is not.Stan Humphries and Rex Grossman got their teams to a SB. yep. officially confusing for all.Just heard the Shanny presser on 95.7
Asked if there was any update on Aiyuk, his answer was “no update”.
There ya go. It’s official.
This whole thing is still stupid. This whole thing is stupid.
how about now? This whole thing is still stupid. This whole thing is stupid.
Schefter: Frustrating 49ers - Aiyuk situation nearing a resolution deadline.
With the regular season just around the corner, a deadline is looming for both sides, especially if Aiyuk plans to play in Week 1.
