WR Brandon Aiyuk, SF (5 Viewers)

Make this make sense to me. This was posted on the SI site 3 hours ago. Are they not aware Aiyuk re-signed with the Niners?

Here's the bio on the writer:

Brock Purdy and WR Brandon Aiyuk met up for a one-on-one throwing session last weekend to help get back on the same page.

Here's what Purdy said about it today:

"It was huge. Just he and I out on the field and just getting back into our base fundamental like routes and everything. He was working on his conditioning and stuff as well. But more than anything, just him getting in and out of cuts, like BA does it very quickly compared to some other guys. He's a lot more explosive, I would say. And his hips are more mobile. He can break down and get in and out in any direction. That was a good day for me to just get back into sync of seeing how he moves and feeling it out again. This week at practice we sort of picked up where we left off.”

Anyone concerned about a reduced snap count for him today? Anyone starting the likes of JSN over AIyuk today?

Had to start 2R 2W 3F. In a group of RB Henry, RB Taylor, RB Mixon, RB Mostert, WR Adams, WR Evans, WR Deebo, and WR Aiyuk, Aiyuk was my odd man out this week.

This story is WILD. 🤯

According to @JayGlazer, Brandon Aiyuk called off a trade to the Steelers in the eleventh hour to stay with the 49ers!

Kyle Shanahan told Aiyuk that he had to make a decision by the end of practice on the day the deal got done. Aiyuk chose to stay in San Francisco.

The 49ers are going to have to hope Brandon Aiyuk plays himself into shape, because he clearly isn't in top form right now. As evidenced by what we've seen so far tonight, they have the firepower to cover for him while that happens

Several dropped passes last night, including one in the end zone. He's got the contract. He got some time on the field. Now he needs to focus on practice.

I was reading how out of shape and sync he was. No doubt missing camp and most practices will set you behind big time.

I expected a slow start but after last night I don't know if you can start him until he puts together a complete game or two.

Lost this week by .08 of a point because of this clown. When he dropped the Td in the first half I knew it was over for me even tho there still was over half a game to go. Worse yet is that I almost benched him for either Brian Robinson or Jameson Williams figuring it would take a week or two to get back in sync with the offense.

While he could have caught the endzone target that was a very difficult catch and I would guess isn't considered a drop. Although, making $30M a year should mean you make that tough catch.

Definitely a catch that normal Aiuyk makes. He’s usually very sure-handed. Better days are ahead, I’d imagine beginning in week 2.

I didn't watch a whole lot of him last year and I hated how he missed so much practice time, but when he was there in the 3rd I felt comfortable taking the risk for a 2nd team all-pro the year prior.

I hope last night was his worst game of the year and he reestablishes his spot as a great fantasy option.

It was one game, and might be fine this week. Some might say he got his money, and might not care that much now. Who knows.
If in 3 more games he is dropping TDs or cant stay on the field cause he is out of shape, SF might have a bit of remorse, and Steelers feel a bit of peace.
Roman Wilson might be back for the Steelers this week. Still not sure why no one thinks he can be a nice WR2 for the Steelers.

Oh, so missing all offseason can affect how you feel and play? Who knew?

Brandon Aiyuk said he didn't feel right in Monday's opener vs the Jets and that he'd never felt that way before. He obviously wasn't in top form.

"I didn't watch the film until this morning. I was a little scared to watch it, but not as bad as I thought."

He's not in game shape and he's not getting separation like he was last season (yet).

Yards per route run: Aiyuk was #3 in NFL last season but ranks #100 through two games this season.

2023: 3.2
2024: 1.1

Aiyuks average separation:

2023: 2.9 yards
2024: 1.9 yards

Another couple of weeks and I think we'll start to see an upswing.

Lombardi:

Aiyuk typically faces the opposition's top cover corner, so his number can be expected to be lower. That said, it's a full yard (34%) lower than his 2023 mark through 2 games. Good defenses, yes, but 49ers need Aiyuk to round into form especially with CMC not creating his gravity.

This guy was an unbelievable efficiency monster last year. Like not even close to sustainable. 18 YPR last year vs a career average of 13-14 the other years. So yeah- the threat of CMC in a RPO offense certainly helps Aiyuk win with his double moves. Without CMC…this guy might be a bust.

1300 yards on 105 targets last year is absolutely maddening and makes no sense. The best WR in the league (Jefferson) is roughly 10 yards per target. Take that for what you will.

The 49ers overpaid for this dude because they could due to Purdy’s contract and maybe some other cap magic things. Overpay and hold onto an asset vs losing it for nothing.

Hopefully he does turn it around but last year will be his career best year I think.

Wouldn't panic after only two weeks, a slow start should be expected for a guy who missed all of training camp. Once he's shaken off the rust they're going to want to involve their now-big investment. In the meanwhile I'm not surprised at all to see Deebo lead in targets, as he's the guy Purdy worked with throughout camp and is their most dynamic player with CMC out.

So the 49ers will be down both Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel for at least the next two weeks.

They can no longer wait for Brandon Aiyuk to kick it into gear. Clock has run out on that

Brandon Aiyuk is not off to a good start after signing his massive contract and it’s not a good look.

🏈 Here’s what’s concerning:
Aiyuk is averaging 1.89 yards of separation (4th lowest mark in the NFL) he’s lacking speed and explosiveness. He’s looked out of shape.

🏈 In week one againt the Jets, Aiyuk looked out of shape and dropped a touchdown pass on a dime from Brock Purdy. He had 2 catches on 5 targets for 28 yards.

🏈 Against the Vikings: 4 receptions on 5 targets for 43 yards.

🏈 His longest catch: 22 yards
0 touchdowns in two games

#49ers

Brandon Aiyuk’s snap percentage jumped from 60 percent against the Jets to 87 percent against the Vikings, suggesting he’s close to being at full strength from a stamina standpoint. He played roughly 92 percent of the snaps in a typical game last season.

all of his numbers went up from game 1 to 2, Im going to go with the idea that will continue until he is up to last years form

For the guys that are on the "Too many mouths to feed, but also Aiyuk is elite" bandwagon - anyone care to take a guess at what you think his production will be with now Deebo AND CMC out multiple weeks?
