WR Denzel Mims, NYJ (1 Viewer)

Jets coach Adam Gase said second-round WR Denzel Mims injured his hamstring while running routes in practice.

"Just took a weird step and got it stretched out," Gase said. Unlike Frank Gore, who's currently sidelined with a hamstring injury for precautionary reasons himself, Mims' injury is reportedly "more serious" as he remains without a timetable for return. Gase even hinted on adding a veteran in the meantime if possible. At this rate, the rookie remains undraftable in 16-round re-draft leagues while teammate Breshad Perriman has a direct path to every-down opportunity alongside Jamison Crowder.

We really can't have nice things, can we. Don't tell me this is another blown second-round pick. We desperately needed help at WR this year. Argh.

Sucks. He missing valuable time if he is to be a starter.
I don't think there is any reason to draft him in most non-dynasty leagues right now. He is a rookie with the shortest offseason possible, a strain and a coaching staff that inspires zero confidence. Mims is just a guy to keep an eye on at this point, not to draft.

Yup. I only own him in dynasty. Don’t need him really. But want to see him develop.

Jets coach Adam Gase hopes WR Denzel Mims (hamstring) can return to practice “sooner than later.”

Mims hasn’t practiced in nine days. He remains without a timetable, but it’s possible he could return this week. Mims will compete with Chris Hogan for snaps opposite Breshad Perriman when he gets cleared

Jets second-round WR Denzel Mims (hamstring) returned to practice Wednesday.

It was the first time Mims has practiced since training camp started after he pulled his hammy the day before camp. Mims has a long way to go before getting into the starting mix, but the good news is he doesn't have a whole lot of talent ahead of him, making a quick rise possible. The Jets are currently projected to open the year with Chris Hogan as a starter on the outside. Breshad Perriman (knee) can't keep the swelling down and is uncertain for the opener. Jamison Crowder is the lone reliable wideout as the slot man.

Denzel Mims (hamstring) is practicing in full for Week 1 against the Bills.

Mims practiced for the first time all summer last week and has avoided setbacks to this point. He's likely going to be a sub-package deep threat early on for the Jets, but we'd expect him to eventually pass Chris Hogan on the depth chart sooner than later.

I mean....of course the Jets basically dont have their two presumptive outside receivers for the entirety of training camp.  Just an absolutely cursed franchise.

They finally spend an early round pick on a WR with some potential and he misses the entire camp. Its just so predictable.

Pretty much writing him off for the year.

Seems like we need to write the whole team off until Gase is gone

Jets WR Denzel Mims (hamstring) was downgraded to "limited" in Thursday's practice.

This is merely a housekeeping note, as we previously had Mims as practicing in full for Week 1. This is surely just a way for Gang Green to manage Mims' reps, but a reminder that he won't be close to ready for a big snap total against the Bills. Mims is merely a deep stash in 12-14 team leagues.

Jets WR Denzel Mims (hamstring) is out for Week 1.

The writing was on the wall when Mims was downgraded to a limited practice on Thursday. New York's second-round pick could be a while away from playing after he appeared to suffer a new hamstring injury this week. For now, Jamison Crowder and Breshad Perriman are set to absorb much of the receiver target share for the Jets.

NFL Week 1 Mailbag: Thoughts on Tom Brady, Denzel Mims, Justin Jefferson and more

Excerpt:

This one is easy. It is the now-New York Jets wide receiver Denzel Mims.

I wrote up exactly why he was one of the most confounding prospects in the 2020 NFL Draft here, but the gist of it is that his Senior Bowl tape was vastly different from his game tape at Baylor. Mims struggled to separate on what was an admittedly limited route tree for the Bears last season, with 41 of his 113 targets being contested.

Then, at the Senior Bowl, with a little more freedom and on a number of different routes, Mims was easily the highest-graded receiver in the one-on-ones. It's not too dissimilar a storyline to 2019's highest-graded receiver in the one-on-ones: Terry McLaurin. With similar 4.3 speed, can Mims see early success in the same way McLaurin did?

I haven't the slightest clue what the answer to that question is, which is why Mims is who I'm most looking forward to watching.

Jets placed WR Denzel Mims (hamstrings) on injured reserve.

The Jets tried to wait things out with their second-round rookie but then he injured his other hamstring. He will now be ineligible to play before Week 5 against the Cardinals. SNY's Ralph Vacchiano reports the team is "worried the rookie will be a non-factor for the first half of the season, at least, even if he returns sooner." Yikes. It's only Week 2, but a full-blown dumpster fire appears to be breaking out in Florham Park.

Jets coach Adam Gase was noncommittal on whether Denzel Mims (hamstrings) will come off IR this week.

Mims was cleared to practice Wednesday, opening a 21-day window for the Jets to activate him. He seems unlikely to play Sunday coming off a long layoff. Mims should return in Week 7 if he's not back this week.

Jets WR Denzel Mims (hamstrings) could play this week against the Bills.

At long last, the rookie wideout could make his pro debut. Mims missed most of training camp with a hamstring issue and was trending toward a return last month before injuring the other hamstring. This could be the end of the Jeff Smith era in New York. Mims is a reasonable waiver pickup in deeper 12-team leagues.

The Debut of Denzel Mims is a Big Potential Boost for the Struggling New York Jets Offense

“He’s got incredible length, range, he can go up and get the ball, speed. He has all those traits that you’re looking for in a guy that can be a really good receiver,” Gase said on Thursday in his virtual press conference. “It’s just keep teaching him technique, scheme, coverages, all those little details that he might not have seen a lot of in college.”

...

“Anytime you can get a guy that we were kind of looking at as somebody that was going to be your starting receiver, to get him back in practice, I keep trying to remind myself, today will be his fifth day of actual team practice in the NFL,” Gase said. “I’ve had conversations with him, ‘Hey, there’s a lot of things that you haven’t seen. You’re going to be learning a lot quickly.’ So, there’s excitement, whether it’s keep getting him out at practice or on Sundays. Either way, the more he can do the better.”

What Jets’ Denzel Mims could bring to offense | ‘You see the talent’

“He’s a guy we haven’t been able to see a whole lot of. He’s been banged up for a while,” Jets offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said. “He was able to take some team reps last week and practice this week, and we’re excited about getting him out there, if it comes to fruition this week or next week. There’s going to be some things he needs to learn on the fly when he’s playing. There’s things he’s never seen before. Everything to this point has been mental for him, getting mental reps and walkthrough reps.”
“As he continues to learn the game plan and put things together, he builds his confidence and plays really well," Darnold said. "Things today where he went up and made a catch, even went downstairs and caught a ball low. It was really good to see that. You see the talent, for sure. It’s just about him continuing to study the game plan and make sure he knows things that way.”

Jets activated WR Denzel Mims (hamstring) from injured reserve.

The second-rounder looks to be on track to make his NFL debut against the Bills this week. He, Breshad Perriman, and Jamison Crowder should make up the Jets’ receiver trio moving forward.

As mentioned in the game thread, the kid is looking good considering he had virtually no training camp and his first NFL snaps today.

#Jets’ WR Jamison Crowder (groin) will not practice today and is unlikely to play Sunday vs. Kansas City. WR Breshad Perriman (concussion) has been ruled out.

Denzel Mims caught 2-of-3 targets for 42 yards in the Jets' Week 8 loss to the Chiefs.

Mims' catches came on the Jets' first two drives. He was targeted only once the remainder of the game as the Chiefs put the clamps on the Jets' horrid "passing attack." Mims looks big and fluid on the field — a dangerous future weapon — but upside is almost impossible to come by in this offense right now. WR4 dart throws is the best Mims can hope for right now. The Patriots are a bad Week 9 matchup for Sam Darnold.

With all of the Jets' wideouts healthy for the first time all season, it was Mims who led the team in targets in this one, but it was Breshad Perriman (5-101-2) who created the big plays. Mims was targeted on a deep downfield shot on Joe Flacco's ill-timed fourth-quarter interception that gave New England comeback life. Mims will be a WR4/5 in Week 11 against the Chargers after the bye.

Like this kid a lot. Once he really gets his sea legs under him after missing so much time, he’s going to be a good weapon for this offense.

Looked legit last night. Very promising as another rookie WR that was soooooo close to a breakout. Still did good but not really broken out yet. Still love him

Unfortunately the team can barely get a first down after every halftime and they barely throw him the ball. I can't wait for Gase to be gone.  No halftime adjustments, no scheme, and no guts.

Denzel Mims caught 4-of-8 targets for 67 yards in Week 12 against Miami.

Mims tied for the team led in targets with Breshad Perriman. He missed a few plays with an injury but returned to the game. Mims has been one of the bright spots for the winless Jets, with at least 40 yards in five straight weeks. Mims is a low-ceiling WR3 for a Week 13 matchup with the Raiders.

Mims just missed on a couple big plays as well... looking forward to the Lawrence/Mims connection next year
He's going to be really good. It's rare to see the Jets pick a good second round player.  Plus he missed most of training camp with the bad hamstring injury and didn't even practice until week 7 of this year.

Got him in waivers this morning. Need him to fill my Fuller/Evans/AB gap.

LV matchup is pretty good. Think they are missing a CB this week too. Traveling east. Shouldn't be a defense to be scared of.

Actually could see NYJ being quite competitive here.

For Mims dynasty outlook let’s hope the Jets are not competitive on Sunday. Trevor Lawrence will catapult his value by 2022 IMO.
