Agree on both counts. If they were to get a win, this could be the week.

Jets WR Denzel Mims is away from the team for "personal issues."
Mims is dealing with a family emergency. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported he's left New York and is traveling back home to Texas. Because of COVID protocols, Mims may not have enough time to get cleared for Week 14. Coach Adam Gase said Mims "possibly" could be out for Sunday's matchup with Seattle.

Denzel Mims (personal) won't play in Week 14 against the Seahawks.
Mims had to travel back to Texas to tend to a family matter. He's led the team in targets (27) and air yards (480) with Jamison Crowder in the lineup the past four games, vacating additional opportunities for both Breshad Perriman and Crowder on Sunday. Seattle’s “improved” defense has permitted just 222.3 passing yards per game to Jared Goff, Kyler Murray (who injured his shoulder mid-game), Carson Wentz, and Colt McCoy over the last month but has still allowed the most raw fantasy points to enemy wideouts this year.

Denzel Mims (personal) returned to the Jets' practice facilities Monday.
Mims left the team in order to travel back to Texas for personal reasons last week. The rookie leads the team in air yards (480, 42.4%) and targets (27, 27.2%) in the four games he's played with both Breshad Perriman and Crowder since the latter returned from injury, but a spot opposite Los Angeles' secondary is less than ideal for the second round of the fantasy playoffs. He'll at least be available for Sam Darnold on Sunday.

Denzel Mims caught 1-of-2 targets for 15 yards in New York's Week 17 loss to the Patriots.
Mims' rookie year began (hamstring) and ended (concussion) with an injury as he mustered just nine appearances after being activated in Week 7. Although his final receiving line (23/357/0) won’t turn any heads, Mims showed potential as the team’s “X” receiver across from Breshad Perriman. All three of New York's starting wideouts (Jamison Crowder included) remain under contract for 2021 and are essentially guaranteed to be catching passes from a new quarterback while under a new head coach. That alone makes Mims, who showed an ability to haul in contested catches downfield, an intriguing mid-round selection for 2021 fantasy drafts.

Don't sleep on Keelan Cole
According to @Connor_J_Hughes the #Jets are very high on him & have been for years
Even when Mims returned he's been running w/ 2's & not as good a scheme fit as Cole who's the better route runner. @Djbienaime said this as well

It’s just OTAs in shorts & no pads so can’t look too into it. I still think Zach Wilson’s top targets are gonna be:
Corey Davis
Denzel Mims
Jamison Crowder
Elijah Moore
But Braxton Berrios as well as Keelan Cole have looked good in OTAs

He’s been working in front of him even after Mims came back from illness. Jets also extremely high on Cole. Tried trading for him in camp each of last two years. Jax wouldn’t part with him. Better scheme fit, too. Mims more linear player.
good stuff - Im not so much down on Mims but high on the other Jet WRs.....Moore is drawing raves and could easily overtake Mims if Crowder stays.....Mims had a pretty lousy rookie year but showed enough glimpses to be optimistic....Id still take him but keep an eye in training camp....Id feel a lot higher on him if Crowder is cut which he may be.Oh FFS. Mims. Plummeting stock. This is odd because I saw some film grinders on Twitter (Nate Tice and Matt Harmon) both go out of their way to have good things to say about Mims last year. If Cole is outplaying him, then so be it, but Tice linked to video and Harmon was making the rounds with Reception Perception and saying Mims could be in for a good year now that Gase is gone.
eta* WRs Davis, Moore, Crowder, Cole, and Mims. Suddently an area of total weakness looks more than competent. This all depends on whether Crowder takes a pay cut, but you have to like the (gasp!) depth of this crew, even if there is no true number one. (Which is probably what they hope Mims becomes, actually. Got the size and speed. This is his first preseason, really.)
Yeah, that's about where I stand. I think the Jets have other quality options, and I didn't even list Berrios. I still can't see the Jets bringing back Crowder without a pay cut when you've got two really good slot guys waiting in the wings. You kind of have to figure that the bigger guys will vie for outside receiver, though if Moore can run circles around guys at 5'9", then who knows? I'd doubt that, though. Seems like we'll be running a lot of 11 personnel, with Moore, Mims/Cole, and Davis as the three "starters."good stuff - Im not so much down on Mims but high on the other Jet WRs.....Moore is drawing raves and could easily overtake Mims if Crowder stays.....Mims had a pretty lousy rookie year but showed enough glimpses to be optimistic....Id still take him but keep an eye in training camp....Id feel a lot higher on him if Crowder is cut which he may be.
The Athletic's Connor Hughes said Keelan Cole, not Denzel Mims, has a spot in the Jets' three-receiver sets.
This is very much in line with recent reporting that Mims is not a good fit for the team's new offense, captained by OC Mike LaFleur. Hughes said Cole and Corey Davis would man the outside, with standout rookie Elijah Moore in the slot. Mims would ideally "check in" here and there to "stretch the field" for rookie QB Zach Wilson. The team's depth chart is far from formalized but the red flags are there for Mims despite flashing as a rookie. Cole could shape up as a decent pick in deeper fantasy leagues.

SNY's Ralph Vacchiano noted that Jets WR Denzel Mims was one of the team's few receivers to not get reps with the first team on the first day of minicamp.
If the Jets are giving all of their wideouts a chance to work with Zach Wilson except Mims, it's going to be an uphill battle for the second year to crack the starting rotation. New York signed Corey Davis in the offseason before drafting Elijah Moore in the second round. Since then, Moore has made waves in practice while Mims has worked behind Keelan Cole. Mims stock looks like it will continue falling throughout the summer. He's now nothing more than a flyer in deep leagues.

Jets OC Mike LaFleur said he wants WR Denzel Mims “playing better inside.”
Mims repped with the Jets’ second-team offense at minicamp. Keelan Cole has started opposite Corey Davis, though neither Cole or Mims are locks to play in three-wide sets with Jamison Crowder returning. The Jets want Mims, an eight game starter last year, to earn his starting role in training camp.

That all sounds....not great. From the NY Daily News:
Mims will have to earn his spot.
I spoke to a scout who knows the Niners offense extremely well and asked if Mims’ skill set is a good fit for the offense.
“Traditionally, no. Traditionally the West Coast offense is made for guys that are good short, intermediate route runners,” the scout said. “Typically, he wouldn’t be that, but they’ve evolved their offense. So now they have very distinct qualities they look for the X and the Z. So, Denzel Mims will be fine for an X because he can run, and he can stretch the field vertically to make some of those contested cases down the field. He’s just not a great route runner. So, he wouldn’t be a Z, but he’ll be good for an X.”

Oooof.
Yea, this would be a tough one to swallow given the massive amount of successful WR's that came out of the 2020 draft where we had tons of capital, just as much need and only came away with Mims. One of the few draft blunders for JD so far, but still certainly remains to be seen. That all sounds....not great.
My takeaways:
1. he doesn’t fit the offense they want to run.
2. They see him as a field stretcher, straight line deep threat. Not too many of those types have great FF impact, especially in PPR leagues.
3. It’s still preseason by quite a bit. This could all be motivational-type coachspeak.
if preseason usage bears this out, oof indeed.
Yeah, so far the WR misses appear to be Mims & Ruggs. Time will tell if that’s accurate. It used to be WRs took a couple years to adjust to the NFL, but that’s been less true in recent years. that said there still may be a % that take longer to develop. Certainly possible that both of these dudes develop, but the teams have to stick with them & give them opportunity to develop for that to happen.Yea, this would be a tough one to swallow given the massive amount of successful WR's that came out of the 2020 draft where we had tons of capital, just as much need and only came away with Mims. And signed Keelan Cole, who’s reportedly getting more love than Mims too. Yikes. They liked him so much they signed Corey Davis, drafted Elijah Moore, and haven't cut Jamison Crowder.![]()

"There are a lot of questions regarding Denzel Mims...A presumed starter, Mims worked entirely with the second-team offense during OTAs and minicamp. That remained the same Wednesday. Mims was out there with Elijah Moore and Braxton Berrios. He is very clearly behind Keelan Cole"
The Athletic's Connor Hughes reported that Denzel Mims worked with the Jets third string offense on Friday.
Well that escalated quickly. Despite being the Jets second round pick last year, Mims was working alongside Jeff Smith and Lawrence Cager today. At this point, there can be no doubt that free agent addition Keelan Cole is firmly ahead of Mims on the depth chart. Rookie Elijah Moore has also continued to impress and is poised to play ahead of Mims as well. Mims offers size, deep speed and contested catch ability, so it's possible he eventually earns a meaningful role this season. It's hard to imagine a more inauspicious start to training camp, however.

I guess now is the time to be very concerned. As long as he's out there on the 2nd team with Elijah Moore, I'm not necessarily too concerned. He missed a lot of time. If he's going to be to K. Cole what E. Moore is to Crowder, that's not a bad place to be. That said, this is looking like a pure stash that isn't going to bring any production to the table early in fantasy. Any optimism I have for this season is pretty much down to him making some noise in the back half.

That’s crazy that someone dropped him but it sounds like your roster size is maybe on the smaller side.LOL - almost responded before catching the 3rd string news. Yeah, that's not good.
I'm holding as a dynasty stash. Someone's 2nd round pick that was dropped mid-season, so I'm just in to him to the tune of a roster spot. Flashed a little bit last year. Enough to show that the upside is there, but I think the fit on this new Jets offense might be a really bad match. Credit Waldman for calling how terribly this would go back at the draft, and he has been a Mims fan. At one point, I was looking at having to decide between keeping 2 of Mims / Hardman / Bry Edwards and had Mims on top. No longer have to make that decision, but I think he would be my drop if I still had to make a call on that. Won't write him off for this season until Cole is a cog in a successful offense where Mims is firmly buried.
Keelan Cole is a solid player and maybe that’s all they want with Davis and Moore/Crowder seeing most of the targets, but I liked the flashes I saw from Mims last season in a bad situation. I wouldn’t give up yet but this is disappointing of course. I don’t have Mims on any of my teams, just looking as a Jets fan.LOL - almost responded before catching the 3rd string news. Went from running with the 2s to running with the 3s.I guess now is the time to be very concerned.
Not the news I expected to hear after I traded for him..... Granted, I still hold hope for him & E MooreWent from running with the 2s to running with the 3s.
Definitely not a good development. With the 2s I can buy the “motivation” argument.
With the 3s I’m moving Cole up my draft board
ESPN's Rich Cimini suggests the Jets could trade WR Denzel Mims.
Mims, a 2020 second-rounder that started eight games as a rookie, has been no higher than the No. 6 receiver at training camp. Miscast in new OC Mike LaFleur's scheme, it's possible the Jets move on from Mims, though he's unlikely to be cut or return more than a Day 3 pick. Mims, who doesn't play special teams, could open the year as a weekly inactive if he isn't traded.

Man, things move fast. Mims showed some promise last year and looked like he might become the focal point of the Jets passing game. But Saleh comes in and pivots by signing Davis (admittedly probably too much) and, if early signs are true, got a real find with Elijah.I wouldn't be surprised to see him in a Lions jersey, personally. They need tons of help. Be interesting to see and probably a good thing for those that roster him in dynasty.
It's why I'm not so positive about the dynasty format. A lot of it isn't sussing out talent, a lot of it is luck and situation. It takes years to build a team, and then the team build is at the whim of a coach or GM that isn't invested in a player, even a good one that has played well when given the chance, as the scouts say Mims has. Then again, if he was that good...Man, things move fast.

Oh well. Hope he catches on somewhere instead of being buried on a depth chart as a third-stringer. One can only hope.
