WR Ja'Marr Chase, CIN (1 Viewer)

That said..................I wasn't going to draft this guy anyway.

Just another in my "DO NOT DRAFT LIST" which has to be at least 30+ players now.     :football:
Higgins is and has been my target. Shinny new toy was making Higgins a better value.

This could potentially flip flop their ADP. Dang it.

“Stupid crap” = dumb comments, graffiti, shoplifting, doing the milk crate challenge.

“Stupid crap” =/= strangling one’s pregnant g/f. That’s more like assault & domestic violence.

1000% worth noting. C’mon.

You have no idea.  I have no idea.

I guess you have never had a fight/argument with a crazy pregnant woman.... my wife was straight up psycho for moments.

And thank baby jesus there was no twitter for her to go crazy on.

Did you strangle her?

Did she tweet that you strangled her?

I was accused of abandoning my family (I travelled a lot for work).

Would that be better or worse for her to tweet?

Seems you are asking the wrong questions to me.

They were both rhetorical questions. I honestly don’t want to know about your personal history here - the topic is Chase allegedly choking his pregnant girlfriend, which is totally worth discussing on a FF forum.

glad we’re all caught up. 👍🏼

wait what?

allegedly?

Lets not be surprised at something like this coming out.  We tend to hear something along these lines every season.

Remember the Giants kicker....?   How about the darling of the league Tyreek Hill....??!          :excited:

(Not that I ever condone this type of behavior)  It just doesn't surprise me anymore.
The giants kicker admitted to abusing his wife.  There's up to twenty accusations by his wife that are still pending (I may be wrong just skimmed article titles).

Hill did abuse his gf (fiance?) in college, but the abuse of his son during his professional career was dismissed within three days (read this article).

Not exactly apples and oranges but one is clearly worse than the other.

Agreed, we can't compare cases.

The case with Hill was a bit "different", in that from all accounts back then, it came out that he actually tried to strangle/or kill his "baby momma".  Then it was "hushed up", and was ultimately dismissed in relatively short order. (Lets be fair, usually when very serious allegations like this come out.....there is usually a bit of truth behind it) So even if it was dismissed, I'm willing to wager a lot, that at least something nefarious was going on.  It may not be the headline of actually trying to kill someone, but he likely did put his hands on her in some fashion.  (Now, that said, the entire thing may have been something she "made up" in an effort to get some money......as there was some speculation on that when things surfaced) But thats irrelevant to my point.

The point I was trying to make, was these incidents can and do happen.  It just so happens that a number of high profile players have made these headlines in recent years, so it doesn't surprise me in the slightest.

I don't condone it at all, but it just doesn't surprise me.

2 More off the top of my head were Adrian Peterson, and of course Ray Rice.   I'm sure there are plenty more, but I largely stay off social media and ignore that news.

I'm more interested in how it may affect fantasy and my $$$ drafts, thats all.

If I'm not mistaken, there were legal accusations and lawyers involved with all of these examples.

Correct, and point taken.  I know you are trying to say "some 20+ year old is blowing up social media with a story that may or may not even be true". (and was quickly deleted)

I have a bunch of "do not draft" people, and Chase is on that list.   But I want to be clear, its not because of this "news??" . Its more that I like other players in and around his draft spots.

I feel the same, but stuff like this doesn’t help make me want to draft him more. lol

Show me a “Chase’s g/f tweeted him giving to charity” or “helping old lady across street” and maybe…

I get it, and everyone has their own views and "personal thresholds" as to what they want, or more appropriately what they want to draft .

For instance, I have a buddy that said he would NEVER draft Joe Mixon, for the stuff that came out about him.  Honestly, thats fine and I get it, considering my buddy has 2 young-ish daughters.

But then again, I'm a poker player.  I play games for money, make a living at it and have for 25 years.  Anytime a guy tells me he "won't own X player at ANY cost" for whatever reason.........well thats just another bullet in my own arsenal when we play.  Thats one specific tool he can't use to beat me, yet its one I CAN USE to beat him.

I liken it to playing chess with a guy where he has 1 less piece against me. (and I'm NOT a chess player, so lets not get into that)  🤣

There was video that came out of Mookie Betts feeding the homeless during the Red Sox world series race back when he was with them and it definitely made me happier to have him on my fantasy team the next season.

This is my exact stance. Higgins was my target at 5.11 if none of the tier "2" or however we're labeling them TEs are there for me. That this news might tilt the market is a little frustrating. Not wading into the quagmire of what might have happened.

As of this moment, on ESPN live draft trends they are back to back.

63. Higgins (rising 6.4 spots in the past 7 days)

64. Ja'Marrr Chase (dropping 1.6 spots in the past 7 days).

I was accused of abandoning my family (I travelled a lot for work).

Drop it. Accusations of strangling a pregnant woman will absolutely be taken seriously and looked into. Full stop.

Video or it didn't happen.

The NFL does NOT want to to wade into domestic stuff till they have to. A deleted tweet means they won't have to.

That sounds harsh, but that's what it takes, that's what I meant.

Ray Rice's girlfriend tells everyone what happened in AC, maybe nothing happens. A statement that the NFL is looking into yada yada yada.

Video is a different story.

A police report would also be compelling though, even without video evidence. Plenty of DV cases are decided without video.

The challenge here is that the NFL has a pretty stringent domestic violence policy. And they’ve put an emphasis on this issue recently.  If they get wind of this accusation (and I’m sure they will) there could be an investigation.

At the very least/bare minimum, this puts Chase on a list as a potential problem for the NFL.

It’s a red flag for dynasty ownership, in my opinion. For some it won’t be a deal killer. I don’t currently roster him, but if my dynasty draft were tomorrow, I would be hesitant to draft him.

Agree.

In redraft, I wouldn't move him one spot.

To be fair, Chase was already dropping thanks to the drops in preseason game, and earlier reports of poor play in camp (not getting separation, etc)

Nor sure the ADP drop is causal based on this. It probably doesn’t help.
Exactly.   I prefer to draft WRs on my FF team that can actually catch passes and get open.   Potential character concerns don’t help.

So like, who was the tweet even about?   Any other pregnant girls she knows?

Or maybe his frustration has boiled over.

Who knows.

This is DEFINITELY a piece to the value puzzle though.  Even if absolutely nothing comes of this it is something that could rear its ugly head in the future.

Does it make him slide in drafts?  Yeah probably.  Anyone debating chase or pitts probably goes with Pitts now.  Same with Harris and maybe now Williams

The Athletic's Paul Dehner Jr. believes that Ja'Marr Chase has "had a fantastic week" of practice.

Dehner notes that Chase strung four straight impressive practices together this week, which is notable considering his preseason struggles, and the recent reports that he could lose snaps to Auden Tate. It's important to remember that although Chase was the best wide receiver prospect since at least Amari Cooper, he is still just a rookie. At this time last year Justin Jefferson was playing behind Olabisi Johnson. Chase ultimately might not live up to his pre-draft hype, or he may quickly emerge as a superstar. We won't truly have a strong indication which way things will go until the regular season begins.

He's dropped an entire round to 73 this week. How much further before you'd draft him? I think I'd rather have Sutton who may pass him this week. Devonta Smith, Cooks and Boyd may pass him. I'm back on the Shenault train I think.

The looking into should come before taking it seriously... right?

I am apparently in the minority in regard to the weight and worth of tweets from people I don't know about people I don't know.

eta - I mean if the picture implied something, that would have weight and worth.  But it was a pic of him chilling on his balcony.

I'm sure I'm not alone in regretting my decision to draft him over Pitts in one of my dynasty leagues. This start to his professional career, outside of an injury, couldn't be more horrible so far....

Having said that, I also appear to be in the minority that his stock is dropping far enough to be a solid value.

It's early. But yeah, I'm pretty relieved I took Pitts at 1.01 when I had that pick back in June. It was close (and Najee was in the mix too).

He catches 2 TDs in Week 1 and most of this gets forgotten. Not the domestic violence part if that truly happened (although I think some people may be leaping to conclusions based on very little information) but the fact that he dropped a few passes during his first NFL experience. The one "practice report" was a joke from the start and completely meaningless.

I just got him at 1.4 in my rookie draft and fairly happy with the choice. Some camp clips have looked great and others not as much. What I saw at LSU was just incredible and the recent caliber of players they've put out really doesn't worry me. I am just calling it rust from a year away from football contact and gonna just hang tight.

I took Pitts 1.01 and chase at 1.03. I’m happy with Pitts and hopeful with Jamar at this point. I believe he will be fine long term.

only league I got him was at 1.3

still feel fine about it

once the lights come on and Joe Burrow is tossing it his way, I think his hands start to work

If I were drafting today I’d probably draft Chase at his ADP.

Because I’ve seen no follow-up to the story about domestic violence, and reports out of camp are that he’s had better weeks.

Time passes. Decisions like these get easier.

A year off, multiple issues with woman, and drops aren’t exactly confidence builders if I was drafting/buying Chase. I’m happy I passed on him in all my leagues for Pitts/Waddle/QB’s(Sflex)
