WR Rashee Rice, KC (2 Viewers)

Don’t mean to beat a dead horse, but this guy playing with 8 felonies hanging on his head is everything wrong with sports, hero worshipping athletes, and society as a whole.
He did a monumentally stupid thing no doubt. But it's a good thing that the criminal justice system doesn't prevent people from earning a living while they're waiting for the dispensation of their case.

From the NFL's perspective he can get paid to play or he can get paid not to play but he's still going to get paid and that's the right thing as well.
Dude, I know of a ton of people who lost their jobs waiting for trial.. Must suck to be a normal average American who gets in trouble compared to a known athlete who makes millions.

But keep going about how fair this is.
Many of those people who lost their jobs probably did receive compensation depending on the terms of their contracts.

And there are a ton of people who have the ability to sue their employers for wrongful termination and receive compensation.

It does suck to be a normal average American in a situation like this mostly because they don't have the type of contracts that make it difficult to simply fire people for being idiots.

Most Americans also don't have strong unions to back them up and protect them in situations like this.

Complain all you want, the system sucks. As the saying goes, it's the worst possible system except for every other system out there.

You would rather live in this system than any of its alternatives.

I don't like Rice at all, and I will say it again, he is lucky no one was killed in that 6 vehicle accident or he would be in jail. I'm not sure he has learned anything yet.

As for his play on the field, he looks to be the first read most plays. He's going to get a ton of targets this year.

No one said life is fair. Here or anywhere else.

No, I want to live with a system that is fair.. Rice didn't just get caught speeding, with drugs, he is charged with 8 felonies. He was street racing and caused an accident that will change the lives of less fortunate people. I am at the point where I honestly believe he will not sit one game at any time for what he did. Now go out and get 8 felonies and see how it goes for you.
I am aware of his circumstances.

Due process is fair. You or I would not be in jail either at this point.

Let's let the courts work through this case before we make statements about what will or will not happen in Rice's future.

Not sure if you guys know this, but football has started. We can sorta button up all this non football talk until the offseason. Maybe, yeah?

Yep. One thing I feel people, NOT you Karl, but a lot of people feel that they would currently be jobless and in jail if they did this. Would they be in jail? Nope. Would they lose job? Depends on employer. I worked for a federal agency for years and more then likely would still be working if I did this at the time of employment. I would be required to report. Then employment would be pending due process.
You be in jail if you committed 8 felonies.. LMAO.. Its laughable to think you wouldn't.

In terms of jobs, yeah depends on the employer, but in most cases, you are gone. 8 felonies, they would look at it as a black eye on their organization.
I don't think you completely grasp the difference between accused and convicted.

More likely you do and are just having some fun in here. That's cool too. Feign ignorance away! You have my blessing.
In criminal law, a bond is often a sum of money that a party offers to ensure that a legal duty is performed. The most common type of bond in criminal law is a bail bond, which allows a defendant to be released from custody while they await trial. The defendant pays money in exchange for their release, and the money is returned if they appear for their trial. If the defendant doesn't appear, they are considered to have jumped bail.

We wouldn't be in jail.
Not everyone can afford bail Einstein
No need to be snooty about it. Happy to engage on this issue but no need to resort to name calling.

Separate issues. Ethical/moral outrage, to me, have no place in Fantasy.

I saw this kid having huge upside as a football player, and when it was clear he’d play the majority of the season, if not all of it, statistically he was worth a roster spot.

There’s a lot of players whose “brand” I don’t particularly like. But, I don’t really consider that when drafting a FFL team.

Gave up the ghost of expecting morality in fantasy football when the dudes who picked up Eagles Mike Vick won countless fantasy titles after he was caught electrocuting dogs when they weren't able or willing to fight to the death for him. Rishi's crime pales in my moral hierarchy. Is what it is.

Sell High
7/100+ with Kelce only going 3/34
Worthy 2 of his 1st 25 TDs in '24
Hollywood out
Expanded role for Pacheco

Get out while the getting is good
;)
I get what you are saying. Other options should eat into Rice's target share. I've kicked this around since April. Here is how it looks in "Dave's world" Warning, there may be galaxy braining involved here.
  • Kelce has been great and helped me win FF championships in the past. But 2024 Kelce is in love with a mega star and has the world by the short hairs. Doesn't need to be great at football to define him. He's already done it. Sadly, I think he has a massive drop in production and will get massive cheers every time he catches a football. I've avoided Kelce only have him on 2% of 275 BB teams. How's that for a flag plant?
  • Worthy is a splash play maker. Unlikely to get a high target volume. Will have designed plays for him and scare opponents who have to soften coverage an extra step. Better BB WR than trusting him as a flex in your weekly lineup. Ping pong 20+ point weeks with 5 point duds.
  • Hollywood I like when healthy. Will be a good intermediate route player, but not as explosive as Worthy nor Rice. Tends to miss time but a good WR when healthy, but not an alpha demanding a high target share.
  • Pacheco is great. Usage will be higher in blow outs.
Circle back to Rashee Rice... Dynamic player who is ridiculously good at taking a short pass for a long gain. Makes Mahomes look great by making easy throws. Rice can also pick up the Kelce slack on slant routes. Mahomes trusts Rice now. They have chemistry. Pepper the young explosive guy with targets to move the chains, keep Kelce fresh and healthy this season. Adds up to an alpha target share and monster in FF.

Great post

-I'm kinda with you on Kelce. He didn't look much better than Andrews last night. I'll go with what you said for all the same reasons
In fact i agree with almost all of it, love your take on Rice, have him across many leagues, liked the price tag as my WR3 and even 4/Flex which can be a huge edge in PPR when you have a potential WR1 that deep down your starting roster

I'm on the Rice train. Took him 5.06 in a 12 team redraft and thought at the time maybe I was falling for preseason hype (again as I do SO many times). This time I think it might have been a good pick. And it worked out. I was gonna take Kyler Murray (QBs were coming off fast and I wanted Kyler this year) and got him 6.07 anyway. Maybe I had a better draft than it felt like when I finished.

Rice is going to be a PPR monster this year, Worthy is going to open up so many easy passes for this guy. This team is going to be tough to beat.

Was offered a package...Rice for Lamb with other parts somewhat balancing it out. Love owner and I have 2 top-10 projected QBs.

Seems premature to anoint Rice anywhere near Lamb.

Looks like my decision to put a certain user on ignore last year came in handy in this thread.

I traded Rice for extra auction dollars in my auction keeper league. Looks like that may not have been the best decision.

KC looks unstoppable with their skill players on offense. If they don't have major injuries this year they could go undefeated. Their defense isn't too shabby either, but beatable, I just don't see anyone stopping their offense. Did I mention they will be getting Hollywood back too? They don't even need him.

That’s a snap accept. Lamb is the #1 slot receiver in FF and it’s not close.

ETA may have read that wrong. Lamb >>>>>Rice. Accept if you are getting Lamb

Not so fast. Having surgery and will miss most of the regular season.

Might be the biggest fantasy steal of the year everyone fearing suspension. Reminds me of the year Tyreek year when people where getting him very late early on and was never suspended but not quite on that level got myself some 6th / 7th round Rice on the underdog early on just not enough apparently.

Sucks for the person that panicked in my dynasty league and traded Rice away for Nick Bosa then traded Bosa for a 2nd rounder then drafted Bo Nix with that pick.

YIKES

The Coachspeak Index
#Chiefs HC Andy Reid on Rashee Rice and the target distribution:

“Rashee, he’s a force in there. He’s a good football player, and he’s tough when he has the ball in his hands. So, I’m sure he’ll be getting a lot more attention as we go.”

Jacob Gibbs
Rashee Rice's route participation rate:

55% - 2023
82% - 2024

Rice ranks third in PPR points per route run since entering the NFL ⬇️ Locked in as the top target in KC, looking like a top-five Fantasy WR

The guy is a scumbag, but at least he's my scumbag. He's the greatest guilty pleasure in fantasy this season.
Let's not overstate it, he's a rich, 24 year old who did something incredibly stupid. And he's going to pay for it, the wheels of justice move slowly.

As far as we know he isn't carrying guns into clubs, beating women or, y'know killing people.

Calling him a scumbag seems a bit extreme.

Agreed, but he could easily have been close to, y'know, killing people with his actions. Henry Ruggs didn't leave Top Golf looking to end a person and her dog, either.

That said, I don't consider either of them scumbags - not even close. Stupid not the same as evil. We are all stupid, sometimes.

Well add Rice to the pile of long term Injuries.

He went down after getting his knee bent backwards. We'll be lucky if he's not done for the year.

After starting 3-0, I’m gonna lose this week with the Rice injury. And if he is out for a long time, might be the end if my season. drop off from him to my bench is huge

Losing 1 player on your roster is the end of your season?

If your season was over after losing one player you weren't going anywhere anyway.
I might be overreacting after a Philly loss and a fantasy loss.

But, the dropoff from Rice/Godwin to Godwin/McLaurin/Jamo is pretty significant. My RB2 is weak, too
