WSL4 - Teams & Discussion Thread (1 Viewer)

Ruffrodys05

IBL Representative
We've got 3 WSL's running in front of us and 20 rounds to make up our teams. We can discuss draft strategies and other stuff here...............

I'll try to keep the teams posted and up-to-date in this thread, but my priority will be in keeping the draft thread updated.

Good luck to all the teams this year!!!!

1.10 Moss: was hard to pass up Fitz but with Warner gone I'll take Brady chucking it to my guy instead of Leinart

just curious if all owners still to pick even know this is going on right now......I have been on FBG for the last couple of days, but not until this morning when I checked my "email" and saw I had a PM waiting at FBG saying I was UP....did I even know we had started.....some like me may not check the "mck draft forum" very often and it could easily be missed that this is running.....not sure what to do about it, but just throwing it out there.....does a PM automatically also send an email?

The last five drafters are aware we have started.

PM alerts to your email inbox are set up on your message board controls, so unless each individual has it set up to alert them via email of PM's, they would likely have to actually check in to the message boards to know they got a PM.

Surprised there were a decent amount of attractive choices available at the 1st Turn (1.16, 2.01)...

...opted to go for #1 Options in High Powered Offenses with Stud QB's for my foundation guys...TD's might be slim pickings, but from a PPR and Yardage standpoint, this pair should do OK, going to miss some of the fellas I passed on, though, for sure...

Just an FYI:

My availability could be spotty this weekend. I will definitely be gone all night on Friday and that event could stretch the entire weekend, during which I would be completely unavailable. I'll try to prepare some lists.

Went with DJax at 2.14. I saw three viable QBs and know one will be there at 3.3. I also see another 3 WRs that I like and might be gone as well as 2 TEs and 1 RB. I should have plenty of good choices after the turn.

hey I know somebody metioned earlier about how we would basically be getting about a round a day done...

has anybody ever thought about just making that the standard.....one pick a day......that way everybody knows that is the expectation and you don't have to worry as much about the clock and different time zones and if your clock starts first thing in the morning, etc.......if everybody knows they are responsible for a pick a day, it might make it a little easier overall.....people could pm stuff in etc ahead of time if they know they are going to be gone.....you would still have to be checking in, but once you made your pick you would know you could be done for the day....then you know this bad boy gets done in 20 days....anything fatster is gravy if you get more rounds in, but it would prevent us from having to wait on somebody, etc....make your pick, you are done....just a thought

I thought about scheduling one pick at the top of every hour. Problem is we have guys with such different schedules, that would be difficult. also with the serpentine, you could be picking in the morning one day and late night the next. I'll mulled this over and put up a poll to get some opinions. If there's enough positive feedback, I could do a trial in one of the PDSLs.Do you want to clarify your idea?Lastly, I don't want to move this to MFL or the like. One of the original reasons for these leagues was that they were commentary drafts. I don't want to lose the discussions on the sleepers and rookies. These drafts are prep for many of us for our regular seasons. I think they also are used to help generate intial cheatsheets/rankings by several people.

I was just driving to work this morning and thinking about it.....how pathetic is that?.......because I went in last night before bed just to check in case a major run happened or something and I was up or close to up.....and like everybody else, I hate holding up the draft.....

it just got me thinking that if everybody knows they are expected to make "at least" one pick a day, it might be easier....for instance you could say the next round starts at 8:00 am EST every day.....so if it is day one the guys at the top of the draft know they will be up first that day......then worse case scenerio, day 2 starts with the guy in the 16 hole and he knows he will be up starting at 8:00 am.....day 3 would be back at the top again at 8:00am....it would still take some time and some checking in, but relieve a little bit of that pressure.....you know you just have to make your one pick and you can be done, nobody can get upset that you are holding up the draft.....because what I think leads to some of the frustration is thse guys that keep checking in, but see no movement.....realistically, you could make your pick and know you don't need to check in until the next day.....and as I said, anything else is gravy......you would just kind of get everybody conditioned to checking in in the morning to see where we were at.....and if by chance we got half way through the next round before the clock went off at night, thats just gravy....however, the expectation would still be that we just finish that half of a round the following day......

20 days....boom....your done....less stress about checking in all the time and holding up the draft..

there may be some other holes in this idea, but bottom line if everybody knows the expectation is one pick a day, we should be able to get it done....if guys know they are going to be away, then pming is the key......you could also then still have like an 8 hour clock in case a guy totally drops the ball, skip his pick and move on, etc

As the teams begin to shape up we'll:

1) get into a rythm as guys will get a feel for the freight train coming their way, and

2) we'll begin to see how our teams are looking after about 4-5 rounds and then we'll have a few comments.

Yup, this is slow.

Good news (or bad?): we'll have an ADP showing up any day as the other three drafts will begin to broken down?

It'll be interesting to watch the ADP change as we roll through the pre-season......into what's termed now ".....an almost certain player lockout in 2011."

This is the last year that we get to so this.....for 2011 it looks like "Imaginary FFB" vs. "Real" Fantasy Football.

There it goes again:

:tumbleweed:

imaginary FFB is where I excel
You and Me.....we can create it out of thin air. We'll need about ten more guys in order to excell; we can even keep score:

1) create some bye laws,

2) recruit in "Leagues R-4 Us",

3) do an Imaginary "Legues So Safe"

4) and just sit back and waste some more time......along with all the Locked Out Players.

There it goes again.... :headbang:

I'd much prefer a strike than a lockout. Scab players would be so cool. Imagine having to dump half your roster via waivers for replacement players that you had never heard of.

We're in the middle of a blizzard here. Still got power, but can someone PM me with what's been taken after this point if my pick's getting close? I should at least be able to make picks by PM from my phone. Mastter of fact, if whoever PMs me could include their e-mail address that would be even better. I'm 47 years old & have lived around here all of my life - I think this is the worst winter storm I've ever seen.

This labor deal is promising to effect our game.It looks like the NFL is brewing for a stewin'....as in the Owner's forcing the issue of the un-capped year. Once there's an un-capped year, it's over as far as an orderly transition.

I started the **OFFICIAL** Labor Strife thread last Summer. It's funny: don't confuse 25,000 FFB players with anything close to reality as they:

JUST DON'T WANT TO TALK ABOUT IT!

It looks to me as if denial is the only consensus.

It also looks to me as if sites like FBG's will find out that the standard of living that they count on, with the endless drivel of "meaningful interactions" and "pointed discussions" about NFL related topics will all come down to discussions that no one want's to address:

NO ONE WANTS TO TALK ABOUT WHY THEY CAN'T TALK ABOUT IT! .....

......... MAYBE BECAUSE YOU CAN'T TALK ABOUT IT IF IT DON'T EXIST!

 Here It comes again (but, I just don't want to talk about it).

From the draft thread:

For the life of me, I can't figure out why this guy is still on the board (2009 figures):

1) 282 carries.

2) 1,252 yards, and

3) 11 TD's, plus

4) 25 recepts for 325 yards.

Maybe it's because he doesn't have a third down roll and hasn't caught a TD pass? At RB #18 (he's been going about RB #11-#12):

3:15: Grant, Ryan, RB-GBP
For one, because I flipped a coin and it came up heads, VD. Tails was Grant. Good pick.
What's not apparent is the descrepancy, maybe the irony, in your post:1) Your coin flip was at the 3.06 spot (pick #38,) and he went at the 3:15 (pick #47)

2) In WSL #1, Grant fell to Captain Hook at the 2:04 pick (pick #20, RB #12),

3) In #2, he fell to Rudnicki at the 3:05 pick (pick #37, RB #12),

4) In #3, he fell to Picitus Cat at the 3:07 pick (pick #39, RB #14).

That's a broad spread....but your post is in order and that's about where he's slotted: Pick #11-14 and pick #37-39.

The total irony of this is that I signed on at the 2:15 pick, in the middle of the night and thought I was up (I'm the 3:15 pick). I half awake posted Grant, realized my error and erased the pick.....only to find Grant there at the 3:15 pick.

High pick = #20, low pick = #47....that's a serious spread.

We're to the 4.08 pick and there's no posted replacement picks for nittany lion.

That will have an effect on our teams but the two replacement picks for that team, and the replacement picker, are critical in keeping the competitive balance thing together....at least I'd think so.

Normally the replacement picks are up and running within a reasonable time frame so I'd like to wave the red flag here and see if we can address this during the "Sunday Clock-Off" period....before the train passes the 1.16 Team in the tunnel (the one with the light at the end of it).

Should have one of the better WRs corspes. Can I find enough talent to balance out this squad?

Sitting on a couple of RBs that I hope survive the turn. Both guys behind me only have 1 RB so I may be out of luck.

Updated to pick 5.11

Noticed Stinkin Ref went back-to-back QB in the 3rd and 4th rounds. Interesting strategy. Might it pay off?

1. thought I would shake it up a little2. noticed the quality of RB's and WR's that were lasting quite a while in the other drafts3. in a survivor format I think you have to have a good score from your QB position each week to advance4. if you only take one solid QB and he gets hurt, you are screwed5. with 20 rounds and QB's and a solid TE on board I can just go for quantity on RB and WR for awhile and hope I hit6. this year more than most I see a pretty big dropoff at QB after the first 15 or so, so in a 16 teamer QB's could be slim7. I may take a third here soon if he keeps falling  :loco:

FWIW, I was mildly upset when you took McNabb. Yellow might have taken him anyway but TC and Crippler already had their top QB so I was hoping to land McNabb.

So Far I'm happy with my Jacksons and my V's :banned:
QB: FlaccoRB: SJacksonWR: VJackson, Sims-WalkerTE: VDavisSo far I'm content despite what amounts to a major reach for Flacco, at least considering where he went in the other drafts. I like the kid a lot.

BassNBrew

1.03 - Ray Rice, BAL, RB3

5.03 - Felix Jones, DAL, RB23

2.14 - DeSean Jackson, PHI, WR12

3.03 - Sidney Rice, MIN, WR14

4.14 - Dwayne Bowe, KC, WR21

Very happy with this start.

QB- Eli Manning

RB- MJD

RB- Jamal Charles

WR- Hakeem Nicks

TE- Jermichael Finley

Feeling solid with my team but not overly in love. I'm glad to get two really good looking RB's but not being able to flex a RB position and being limited to two in your lineup caused me to pass on what I felt were some extreme value picks at RB in the past few rounds.

Last year Matt Schaub was the QB I tabbed in drafts as the guy who could give you top 5-8 QB production with a latter round draft pick or the guy to grab if you got left out of a QB run. Going through this draft and it led me to so far conclude Eli Manning is going to be that guy for me this year. He had his best fantasy season last year and did so with decent amount of injuries at the WR position. This year I see the WR group taking a huge step up and giving Eli far and away the best set of weapons he's ever had to work with. Combine that with his durability and to me Eli is safe pick with high upside.

4.04 - Ben Roethlisberger, PIT, QB8

2.04 - DeAngelo Williams, CAR, RB10

1.13 - Larry Fitzgerald, ARI, WR4

3.13 - Chad Ochocinco, CIN, WR17

5.13 - Greg Olsen, CHI, TE10

Solid but not spectacular. Olsen offers some upside based on where I got him as long as Martz lines him up as a WR some.

QB - Brady

RB - Peterson

WR - Smith (NYG), Welker, Cotchery

Not too excited. Knee-jerk-picked ADP at 1.02 when I wish I'd have taken Little Ray or MJD. My WRs are good for at least 85 each and I like Brady where I got him. But I passed on some other guys that, if we started over, I'd take instead of who I did.

I had some QB in my pre list to TC and Flacco was one

I am up for shortening the clock.....with it being off at night and 8 hour windows we could potentially only have two or three picks a day depending on where we get stuck at............just kind of strange that people sign up for these things knowing that there is kind of an unwritten committtment to 15 other people, yet they don't take the couple of minutes it might take to check in a few times throughout the day....I know the whole job thing and everything, but if you know you aren't going to be able to check in for 4 hours or more send a ####### pm....it's not that hard......this ain't for cash....

QB - Cutler

RB - Spiller

WR - Marshall, SMoss, Garcon

TE - Gates

Not my best work, but this team could be dangerous if I can close strong.

I didn't bother to check the other drafts before I took Spiller in the 3rd. If I had realized that he was falling obscenely far in the other leagues, I would've picked someone else there and let him slip to me in a later round. Oh well. He's still fair value at RB15.

Was shocked that you jumped that soon on Spiller.

Yea, it's weird. In previous seasons people have jumped on guys like Peterson, Bush, McFadden, and Moreno in the 2nd-4th round range. Now Spiller is falling to the 8th? Wouldn't happen on my watch.

sorry for my grumpiness above.....I was a little drunk last night and punks "venting" rubbed me the wrong way....
No problem man.To answer your previous question, no my berry does not get FBG, but it does get email so I am notified when I am PM'd.We will agree to disagree about history. I religiously send PMs, I send lists when I will be away AND not able to get to a PC in a timely manner. I generally check in at least every 2 hours. I have also had Mrs. Punk take over my draft when I am out of town. I am not only a draft fanatic, but a courteous one ... I take a little issue when it is suggested otherwise.Like I said, lets move on. The 4 hour clock won't affect me, so no worries there.Punk

Yeah, must have learned from your mistake in WSL1 where you are getting :goodposting: .Felix is kind of a risky pick for this format...all other picks are solid.

I agree, much better effort. Hard to draft on the end in the early league. No control over the runs and no history as to what the consensus is. If Felix turns out to be a RB1 this team will rock. You'll probably like the Leinart addition at QB1.

Yep, it's a definite disadvantage to draft on the ends in this format IMHO. You can get rocked by the runs.

I did these Leagues last year and there was some discussion about which spot in the draft order delivered the goods and there was an inference that the X.16 spot was advantageous. There was a thread in the offseason indicating that the X.16 spot did indeed have an advantage....the number of Leagues, the number of chances, etc. In a perfect world, there would be sixteen leagues with an even distribution being that each spot would be "best of the litter" 1 out of 16 times.

I beleive that it broke down, when it was all said and done, that there were 14 Leagues (not counting Reunion) and that the frequency of the sixteen spot was something like 3 winners out of 14 leagues and that yes, the sixteen spot was significantgly better than 1 out of 16. All that would have meant that it was a 3 out of 14 correlation.

What no one did was to correlate how many times the sixteen spot was a factor in providing one of the two (and I think in one League it was three) playoff teams? How many times did one of the two playoff teams that ended up fighting it out in the final two playoff weeks draft from the #16 spot?.

Out of 28 team chances, how many times was the #16 spot a factor? I did the work and never posted it, determining that it made no differece that it was just another correlation that didn't matter since 1) spots are assigned randomly and 2) you have no control of the skill of the drafter's that fall into the #16 spot.

Results for the top two finishers from 14 Leagues: it was something like 7 out of 28 chances that the #16 spot played in the playoff for the 14 leagues...... something like....a correlation that supported the 3 out of 14 finding that the #16 spot is seemingly an advantageous spot to draft from in these formats.

Yo, menobrown: TC wants to make the point that Rookies aren't part of the league since the draft has not been conducted.

It's just fantasy so explain to him that you are taking "Artistic License"....which is kinda like a "Leap of Faith" and tell him to use his Imagination.

If the guy doesn't get drafted, he's got a point and you are just plain outta Ice Cream.

:kicksrock:
