Nope, not my issue or concern. My immediate concern is with the pit bull living next door to my 5 year old. Feel free to share other viscous dog stories, if you'd like.

So what has he done that was vicious? You mentioned jumping on people and growling when in his crate. That's it? You want to execute the dog for that?

They just moved in about just a little over a year ago so it's unlikely that they will move in. They have a pit / lab mix. I am uneasy with him, but at the same time, could possibly warm up to him. The pure pit is my issue.

Ironically, we purchased the house for $350k, which was a family discount. And, it's one of the more affluent areas of central Ohio - growth is tremendous. It's not like some white trash person will move in if they move out.

so, how many of this breed have you been around to base your conclusion? it's not genetic, or should I say was not genetic. now if you have a bad dog and concentrate on that specific dogs bad trait and continue doing so, then I guess you could say those are genetic. I'm sorry to hear about your situation. it doesn't sound like a good environment for all involved. if it were me, I would express my concern to your neighbor, who it appears you have some type of relationship with, since you're over their house. I always try the communication line first, but not sure how your comfort level is with that?

One day they posted a pic of their newly adopted kitten, Katniss Everdeen. We met up with them for lunch one day ... I said "how's Katniss doing? She's the cutest kitten ever!" You know what happened to Katniss??!! Katniss died. One of the pit bulls they rescued killed Katniss. That same pit bull bit one of his owner in the ###. Needless to say, we never visited again, once my daughter was born. The dog was aggressive, and even at one point, they thought they were going to have to put it down.

Secondly, I'm not sure what to do at the moment with the neighbors. We're super stoked to have neighbors, and especially since they have kids. They love craft beer (we do too) and we feel we could really get along with them. At the same time ... We are lesbians. I am discriminating against a dog, but at the same time, I don't care as I will do anything to protect my daughter. I don't feel appropriate heading to their house and saying "Um, I don't like your dog." They could very well say "um, I don't like your lifestyle." (They do have a confederate flag hanging in their garage).

At this point, we considered a story about being attacked by a pit at a very young age and say that our daughter could not visit in the house or be around the dog.

if the dog hasn't shown signs of aggression, then yes you are discriminating against it. it doesn't sound like you're dealing with a drug dealing thug type scenario, just people uneducated about being a proper dog owner and getting a breed they probably shouldn't own because of that.

I wouldn't start the conversation off with I don't like your dog as now you've just put them on the defensive. try explaining your concerns in a respectful way and see where that goes. you may be relieved and surprised.

and if we're being honest there were probably some signs of something going on with that dog that the family ignored out of their love for their pet instead of addressing the matter and maybe having to make an unpleasant choice..

You're exactly spot on. They aren't drug dealing thugs who want a trophy dog. Her comment when I first met her and she introduced me to the dogs was "we have had a lab / pit mix for 3 years now so we adopted a full pit because our lab / pit mix has been so loving. He likes to jump on people, and I think the people who we adopted from stated his age is much older than he his, because he runs / jumps like a puppy and he tries to get out." The boy then chimed in with "this dog is crazy, so crazy."

I've seen the dog in the crate twice. The first time is when I first met the neighbors. The second time is when my partner met the neighbors.

The little dog who bit my daughter was two distant friends who we rarely see.
