In my twentieth year of collecting items for the disadvantaged in my city. We prepare a little bag for Santa to give out at a public event.  Each bag has a knit hat, socks, gloves, an orange, some hard candy and chocolate, and a small toy, about the quality, often exactly the quality, of Happy meal toys.  Others do toys for tots.  Some do a miracle toy ride to the children's hospital, others coats for homeless vets or Wounded Warrior or Ronald McDonald House.  Do try to do something.  Do it for its own sake or for your own sake, doesn't matter to the cold, sick or hungry.  Just do it.

Good stuff tonight...

I believe this qualifies under the "don't whine" etiquette that Joe proclaims to all his forums. This is pretty much nothing, especially when you read and compare the personal insults and speculations mods allow here, sometimes even post themselves.

Given the people using it are the quickest to complain of any slight towards Trump...more just flat out hypocrisy .

Watch what you whine about.  More people use that phrase you trolled with forever than you realize. I know you’re trying to get a zinger on some trump guys but might get Henry Ford too with it.

I think it's okay to have a thread for Trump supporters only. The rest of you please just lurk. Thanks.
And yet you were very “active” in the Trump HQ thread last night.

Just on the front page of this place:

- The *******official******* Trump Impeachment thread

- House Impeachment

- The nerdy Impeachment thread

Is there really a need for this much nuance? Can’t we just merge them all?

I honestly do not understand why this stuff is allowed given the new rules.  A lot of us are trying to do better and ignore the trolling, but why is it allowed to continue from the same people over and over?

I disagree with it somewhat, but what baffles me more is that people continue to respond and get into very long back-and-forth discussions with someone who they think is trolling and whose opinions they don't respect. I don't get that.

I was promised timeouts and hopefully when Maurile gets around to it these people are on the list too.

I do the latter, and I can explain my perspective.

I've held positions over my lifetime that I no longer hold, some that were reasonably deeply held.  It was only through conversations with folks who disagreed that, over time, I began to question my core assumptions and be open to asking more questions.  A lot of the discussion took place online, in the safety of anonymity, as most folks I was surrounded with or hung out with weren't good discussion partners.

Online conversation in these types of settings has been huge for me to test ideas, to get rid of bad ones, bolster good ones, and test ideas against other smart folks.  I believe most folks are here for that reason, and even those who seem never to listen or acknowledge another's point, it's possible that they're still listening, or maybe a lurker is reading who the conversation is helpful for.

Also, sadly for me, many folks in my family have the opinions of folks on this forum.  Many people I work with, and some friends do as well.  And despite me not understanding why they'd hold the opinions, I try to engage here in order to better understand where folks are coming from and why they believe what they do, even if they can't back up their views, or point out any flaws in my own thinking.  It's useful back and forth that allows me better to engage with folks in real life.  I know it annoys folks when I do it, but these are some of my reasons for continuing to try to reach/find common ground with folks I disagree with, even those who seem like perma-trolls.

You can't make one post without doing this stuff.

Thanks. This is definitely a good answer and it's hard to argue with; maybe just different than my preference. Personally, if I make my point 2-3 times or ask the same question 2-3 times and I'm not getting what I consider to be useful responses or feedback, I figure it's time to let it go. At least temporarily. I can see coming back to it at a later point. But, it seemed to me that your conversation recently that I was reading involved you asking the same question or making the point about 20 times (maybe slight exaggeration on my part) with very little response that seemed to match what you were looking for out of the conversation.

I'd just encourage you to consider your audience. While most folks might be here for reasons related to improving their own beliefs/ideas, there are likely some who aren't here for that reason. If you think you can identify who those posters are, my suggestion is that you should consider cutting off discussion with them quickly so as to not come off as badgering them and, most importantly, annoying me! :)

With some posters here, I don't think they expect a meaningful response and I get the sense that their goal is to hound other posters or try to make them look bad. I like @Maurile Tremblay's stance on this that you shouldn't, for example, ask someone for a link with evidence if you don't expect them to respond with an honest attempt at providing a link with evidence. To do so raises questions about one's intent, IMO. Obviously, it's hard to judge other's intent, so I can be totally wrong here.

Good thoughts. 👍

Too bad they won’t enforce this, maybe it only applies to the one thread attempting to put the Trump non haters on trial. Hopefully not and they will get that thread under control.
Joe made an earnest and thoughtful appeal to try and improve the hate and divisiveness here and in his community. It was not a mandate, nor was it inarticulate in his original post. Joe's absolute MO in this subforum has been focused on civility and promoting discussion.

Yet you have chosen to characterize his intensely personal, yet public plea as, "attempting to put the Trump non-haters on trial."

If I owned this site and showed and someone showed little respect to my deep beliefs and objectives, I'd probably ask them to go away. The vast majority of political sites would welcome them with open arms. Joe's trying to do something different here and you seem intent on blowing it up.

David is a friend of mine, but I am still surprised there was not a coup to remove him after some of postings a few years back. They were really bad. FWIW I'm glad he's still around.
Huh, I feel the exact opposite.  I wish that David had permanently removed all the posters that attacked him, especially the ones dropping F bombs at an owner.

My statement wasn’t in regards to what Joe posted but way to make an inaccurate and ignorant post falsely accusing me of something for no reason. Please don’t quote me again, I have no interest in false accusations like you are accustomed to making to attack others that don’t share the desired echo.

:goodposting:

That behavior shouldn’t be allowed anywhere. It’s too bad David doesn’t participate more but when behavior like that was allowed with no consequences I guess I understand why he doesn’t.

That was certainly not clear in your post. And if his thread -defining original post wasn't not a target of your comments, I would think common decency would have made it clear. But maybe that's just me, you go be you. Best of luck

And here's a double quote, so you can be comfortable with the fact that I will feel free to quote any post you put in here.

That's pretty mean. Please provide a source for these nefarious accusations.

And echoes are in the public domain. There is no need to share them.

A coup to remove him? Wow
Were you around then (I'm talking about the pizzagate and Qanon crap)?

This is a mighty fine organization and if he had continued with that, it would have been destroyed.

IMO that's when a coup is in order. It was resolved without that happening and I am thankful for that.

Based on your previous post I’m not sure you have a handle on what the bolded means. I’ll again respectfully ask you not to quote me as I don’t have interest in your schtick. If you truly cared about what Joe has asked it would make sense you would honor that....but I think everyone knows where you truly stand. Have fun sport.

I do not consider you the arbiter on what things mean, what/whether I care about Joe (and for you to question, I find disgusting that you project on my feelings),

I am comfortable with my stances and posts. I have historically used schtick because humor, but more often real attempts at contributing to the dialogue.

Yes, pretty much everyone here knows exactly where I stand because I am forthright and honest.

And I am still waiting on a link on me making false accusations and attacking others. Otherwise you are the only doing that here.

I hope you have a great Holiday!

How do you do a coup against an owner of a website? You seem very angry the last few days.

By hard work, successfully obtaining the desired result.

And if you want to discuss feelings, you've seemed contemptuous and insecure. But I really doubt discussions of our perceptions of others' feelings would be a productive avenue here.

So you wanted a coup here? Life is great. It’s almost Christmas.
