I would love a one-post-per-three-minutes rule in order to slow down the people who give less than ten seconds of thought to each post, but Invision doesn't offer that feature.
Certain things are better but there are plenty of the same old nonsense occurring in many of the threads. I don't think anyone is trying to get this place shut down but we all know you're going to claim greatness because you fear Joe shutting it down. Anyway, people gonna do what they want that's pretty clear.Things already have changed. They’ve improved. Basically the mods have gotten tougher and things have gotten better.

It records the time though. Make a rule, extract the data, enforce.I would love a one-post-per-three-minutes rule in order to slow down the people who give less than ten seconds of thought to each post, but Invision doesn't offer that feature.
Hey, hey. Let's keep the other boards out of this, eh? The posters on the other boards are actually capable of acting like adults.AAABatteries said:Completely agree and I’ve chosen to put those people on ignore. The mods are jeopardizing the future of the boards by not doing anything about it, IMO.
The EAT-OFF videos make it all worthwhile.Man...I just can't help but wonder when each of us gets to our final days on our death beds if we will regret or appreciate the amount of time we spent arguing with virtual strangers on a message board where almost no minds were changed as an outcome.
I think I will regret it. I am almost certain of that.
With you GB.Man...I just can't help but wonder when each of us gets to our final days on our death beds if we will regret or appreciate the amount of time we spent arguing with virtual strangers on a message board where almost no minds were changed as an outcome.
I think I will regret it. I am almost certain of that.
Are you making this statement about the PSF? Or does this apply to the SP as well? With you GB.
I've been thinking a lot about "mental capacity" too. Meaning we all have X amount of mental work and time we can do each day. We allocate it to family and work and friends and entertainment and whatever.
I see the volume of posting from some folks and I see they're obviously smart and capable and my thought is "They should be putting that mental energy and time to work somewhere where it'll make much more of an impact besides talking with / debating with fake screen names". I realize that makes the boards less good. I'm fine with that.
Not sure this is actually true. Unless you equate acting like adults to not reporting posts. The same comments happen in the other forums.Hey, hey. Let's keep the other boards out of this, eh? The posters on the other boards are actually capable of acting like adults.
I'm thinking mostly about the PSF as much of the stuff that gets talked about, they could actually be doing. Are you making this statement about the PSF? Or does this apply to the SP as well?
To some, political talk is entertaining. And possibly more important than fantasy football talk. (curious that you capitalized Fantasy Football in your post. Shows the importance you place on itI'm thinking mostly about the PSF as much of the stuff that gets talked about, they could actually be doing.
If you're passionate about a candidate, I think time spent volunteering for the campaign is more effective than arguing here. Same with other issues.
For Fantasy Football talk, that's basically pure entertainment. It's not so much like they could go start doing the things they're talking about in the Shark Pool as easily.
Bottom line, I'm always on the side of doing is way better than typing.
And I know there's great value in an online community and friends. I do feel though a little guilty for creating a space for what feels like a not great use of time for a lot of people. And I get the personal responsibility thing. I'm not forcing anyone to post here. I just wonder if I shouldn't encourage more getting out in real life and making a difference.
Yes, you are right. I didn’t mean for my post to com across like I was blaming the mods but it did. I said earlier folks just need to act like adults. My point should be that I hope the mods get rid of those who don’t.GoBirds said:Ha, I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say the Mods aren’t the ones jeopardizing the future of the boards. That’s rich.
Oh for sure. Fantasy Football is what allows this forum to exist. To some, political talk is entertaining. And possibly more important than fantasy football talk. (curious that you capitalized Fantasy Football in your post. Shows the importance you place on it).
I also think that we have a perfect storm right now. Lots of political happenings and we are in the dead of winter. And the holidays are over. For me, then next few months are always the least productive.
Cool. How about you start posting with your real name and where you live and where you work like I do. Let's be real about this.Eventhough the names may be fake, there are real people behind them. My name is basically real.
I don't disagree with that. But should it be capitalized?Oh for sure. Fantasy Football is what allow this forum to exist.
Sigh. Are we really doing grammar police on a Saturday morning?I don't disagree with that. But should it be capitalized?
I want to make a Harrison Stevens joke here but will instead say enjoy playoff football everyone!!Cool. How about you start posting with your real name and where you live and where you work like I do. Let's be real about this.
Jon is my real name. I have said where I live and some of the work I have done, where I went to school. It would not be overly hard to ID me if one chose to do so. But there is value in having some anonymity which I thought I articulated.Cool. How about you start posting with your real name and where you live and where you work like I do. Let's be real about this.
Sorry Joe. My original comment about it, was that I thought it was a slip up. You obviously hold fantasy football as being very important. I see why you would. But, then you doubled down on it.Sigh. Are we really doing grammar police on a Saturday morning?
Odd take from the owner of an internet website and message board.Cool. How about you start posting with your real name and where you live and where you work like I do. Let's be real about this.
Your day will be better for it imo.And let me take some of my own advice and drop out of this one for now.
He tends to be more flippant with me than other posters for some reason. I fail to see what I said that warranted such response. But whatever.Odd take from the owner of an internet website and message board.
I think like JB stated the PSF might be reaching the end of it`s useful lifespan for the business side of things and that is understandable. Sinn made some good points. Seems like 75% of the PSF posts come from 10% of the members and that gets old fast.Ramblin Wreck said:It's the perfect thread where someone should be limited to 10 posts. If one wants to spend all 10 whining about a link for Obama not notifying the G8 so be it. But it would be a lot easier to read the good stuff if the same few posters weren't posting the same stuff every 2 minutes.
Does the FFA do anything for the business side?I think like JB stated the PSF might be reaching the end of it`s useful lifespan for the business side of things and that is understandable. Not sure as JB has stated before the forums run in the red. In the FFA 10% don`t not control 75% of the posts though. So like sports if you bring more to the table than you take away you are a plus player, if not you are a minus player. The PSF looks to be on the minus side in the bosses eyes.Does the FFA do anything for the business side?
Ahhhhh the usual Orangemanbad segment showing up to clutter a good stream of news and discussion with partisan politics as usual.
Perhaps I'm wasting my time sharing news in here.
@Maurile Tremblay These posts were in the Iran thread. They clearly violate the spirit of your rules in the OP. Should posts like these be reported or ignored?very. Unless you profess your hatred towards Donald you will never be one of the boys here. Believe me, you have to hate him
It has nothing to do with running in the red. None of the forums generate cash flow. Not sure as JB has stated before the forums run in the red. Oh noes!@Maurile Tremblay These posts were in the Iran thread. They clearly violate the spirit of your rules in the OP. Should posts like these be reported or ignored?
I don`t make the rules and really don`t care one way or the other as I can go with the changes and flow. If it stays fine, if it goes fine, it will not impact my life at all. I will still look at the SP and FFA.It has nothing to do with running in the red. None of the forums generate cash flow.
The reality is, it's the topics that are discussed. It's not even the bickering or personal comments. JB and I discussed, and he admitted that there may be a double standard applied when it comes to moderating the SP vs the PSF.
It's acceptable to attack another fan base in the spirit of sportsmanship, it's not acceptable to attack another political base. (because it's not about sportsmanship)
Yea, but that’s expected. To call someone out for their real info seems weird to me. But whatever. Not really....
I think most of us say things in here we wouldn't on FB where our names are used.
He wasn’t being serious.Yea, but that’s expected. To call someone out for their real info seems weird to me. But whatever.
Very little. There are always a few people that say they buy our business product as a way of saying thanks for the forum. For the most part, it's a financial loss.Does the FFA do anything for the business side?
I’d like to make a quick comment on this because I hear it a lot and I’m aware that I have more posts than anyone else (people seem to love to remind me of this!)With you GB.

No worries. It's fine. I will say though nothing makes me realize I'm wasting time here more than grammar police.Sorry Joe. My original comment about it, was that I thought it was a slip up. Sometimes I over analyze things. (okay, I always over analyze things)
My opinion would be you're underestimating how much time you could be using productively in a way that made a difference vs just entertainment.I’d like to make a quick comment on this because I hear it a lot and I’m aware that I have more posts than anyone else (people seem to love to remind me of this!)
For me it’s just a quirk of what I do. I’m a commercial real estate agent and property manager, I work in a small company: just me and my dad and one secretary. I make good money but I have a lot of down time, basically hours each day. Things get busy for me several times a month, and I mean REALLY busy, and that’s when I earn my keep. And the nature of my job is that I’m never really off- I can be working 24/7. But again there is a lot of downtime. So I read a lot of books. I play a lot of online chess. I listen to news and sports. And I engage in discussion because I love it. If this board wasn’t around I’d probably find another though I doubt it would be as good: I’ve sampled a few.
Outside of work, I have a happy family: a lovely wife, two beautiful brilliant daughters (though the 2nd one is about to go to college so we will be empty nesters and that’s a scary thought.) I spend tons of time with them. I’m not some weird dude hiding in my mom’s basement feverishly posting all the time, lol. Things are pretty good with me; I get a lot out of life.
The final point I would make is that posting in this forum doesn’t require big commitments of time for me. About 90% of the time I post here it’s on my phone. Takes about 20 seconds, then I’m off doing something else, then I might come back to it. But I can be here conversing and doing several other things in the real world.
So when you think to yourself “he should be putting that mental capacity elsewhere”- well maybe but this is relaxation for me. Like sports and fantasy football. It’s a form of entertainment. Everyone needs a lot of that.
This is where our breakdown occurred. I wasn't trying to be the grammar police. I was reading into the subconscious reason why you capitalized Fantasy Football. It's similar when someone posts in all capital letters. There's a reason behind it.No worries. It's fine. I will say though nothing makes me realize I'm wasting time here more than grammar police.

Just thinking about your thread: Be a Better Writer And Poster - Be a Better Person
You make your living off people who spend hours each week playing a game within a game: fantasy football. That’s a pretty time consuming hobby. Would you feel comfortable lecturing your customers about how their time could be better spent productively in a way that made a difference rather than trying to decide who to start at wide receiver next week?My opinion would be you're underestimating how much time you could be using productively in a way that made a difference vs just entertainment.
I think GM is right.
And to add @timschochet - I know I'm likely saying something that would make our board less good.My opinion would be you're underestimating how much time you could be using productively in a way that made a difference vs just entertainment.
I think GM is right.
Sorry if you think that's "lecturing". I will always tell people to make a difference in what they feel is important to them. You make your living off people who spend hours each week playing a game within a game: fantasy football. It's a noble effort. But, in the end, it's really up to each person. There could also be an opposite effect. Where people could be making things worse in the real world if they weren't posting here.Sorry if you think that's "lecturing". I will always tell people to make a difference in what they feel is important to them.
It's not a proper noun. (now I'm being a grammar policeman). The reason people capitalize words is because the feel they are more important.I can’t believe anyone is questioning Joe for writing Fantasy Football.
