Vegas (3 Viewers)

Heading out to Vegas tomorrow for a business trip. Been there a few times. I've seen most of the big casinos already so just looking for some different stuff to do this time.

Lots of great info in the first post. Nice having everything on one page. Wondering how much is no longer valid after ten years though.

I see Ellis Island still has the $7.99 steak dinner ... and cheap beer / black jack ... so I'll likely check that out one night.

Well guys, Im finally going to do it...after being in vegas probably 30 times in the last 3 years (95% of those work trips) ill be heading there tomorrow, checking in, and heading over to Yardbird for the first time.  I got married on Oct 29th and headed straight to Tahiti (moorea and bora bora) for my honeymoon.  We had chicken and waffles at my wedding as one of the food stations and my wife didnt eat much so she has been craving them especially since we are still getting positive feedback about how much everyone loved the food, specifically the chicken and waffles.  She eats so healthy that her craving them basically means she will just eat a bite of mine and order a salad or whatever, but I cant wait.  I may just get two orders as I am not good at sharing food, and if they are as good as you all say they are, I dont want to fight her if she asks for a second bite  :D .  It will be glorious!!!!

Well.

Just got back yesterday, good friend of ours was turning 30 and she wanted to do Vegas "right". Basically used all my prior trips plus the recommendations in here, and it was AMAZING. Thanks to everyone who contributes to this glorious thread, it really is so, so useful. The purpose of this post is to be useful and practical, not to tell stories (what happens in Vegas, and all that...). So don't read this LONG ### POST and complain that you weren't entertained. Because this won't be very entertaining, sorry! Haha

We had 9 people (two couples and the rest singles) in 5 total rooms staying at Cosmo. Four groups just wanted regular rooms, but my wife and I saw that fountain view balcony and we were sold. WELL WORTH EVERY CENT. I know I know it's just a room and you're never there. But I can't really describe how awesome it is to be able to watch the Bellaggio fountains while showering, or just sitting out on the balcony having a drink and checking out the show while the wife is getting ready, or waking up in the morning and the first thing you see is the Eiffel Tower. So awesome. The others did get good deals because we used Priceline and BetterBidding thanks to here.

Cosmo is really well done, very sleek and modern. Celebrity sightings included David Spade and Norm McDonald walking around, the worst 40% of the Backstreet Boys, and we missed seeing OJ Simpson getting kicked out by a day. Only made it to the pool once, the Chelsea pool, very nice scenery even on a 75 degree Thursday. The Chandelier Bar is world famous but unfortunately the top two levels were being renovated so we had to settle for the main floor. Not bad, but not what we were looking forward to. Oh well, next time. I somehow was there for four nights and never once made it to Secret Pizza. The one time we attempted to was Saturday night but it was 5:30 in the morning when we got back from Spearmint Rhino (look at me) and they apparently close at 5. Had to settle for Eggslut, which the girls all raved about every day but I thought was just ok. Cookies were great though.

Thursday we had breakfast at Bruxie and dinner at Casa di Amore. Our friend's boss recommended Amore as authentic eye-Talian. It's east of the strip literally next door to the Gun Store. The ravioli was awesome, the drinks left a little to be desired for me, but I had a lot anyway just to cover the bases. And the live entertainment was total kitschy Vegas with the coiffed hair and the super white teeth, crooning out old school hits AND a ton of 80's sitcom theme songs (a certain patron may have been drunkenly requesting Golden Girls and Perfect Strangers at some point - loudly - and was pleasantly surprised with Growing Pains). I'd recommend the place for the food and entertainment alone.

Went downtown Friday. Frankie's Tiki Room is about halfway between north strip and downtown and looks crappy outside, but inside it's awesome. The bartender told me it would "ruin all other mai tais" for me, and she wasn't lying. Holy crap was it good. Every drink on the menu looks awesome, and all of us were in love. Oscar's is a really cool dinner spot, definitely not as good as Craftsteak but it holds its own. Neon Museum was ok, our tour guide wasn't very entertaining but she was knowledgeable. Thought it would be cool to do it at night, but all it really did was prevent us from going to other places we wanted to be more. Hit up Atomic Liquors after that, wasn't anything special but hadda do it once. Pizza Rock was incredibly great (coming from a Jersey guy, that should be meaningful), and finished up our night at Peppermill. We got a seat around the fire, and one of our drunken friends may have dipped her toes in the hot ### water, so that's fun. Peppermill is a tremendous place to finish up a night. Such a Vegas vibe, everything all purple neon lit up and really enhances your drunkenness. Never got to Container Park although it might have been a bit cold and looked closed anyway when we walked past, and never got to Gold Spike which someone in here recommended. Again, next time.

Mon Ami Gabi for Saturday brunch is a must every time we go. Had too many people to get patio seating in a timely manner (2 hour wait for the patio, and wasn't even worth slipping someone a $20 because there were no empty seats and it woulda been at least 30-40 minutes anyway unless they kicked someone out haha). Ended up booking Yellowtail at Bellagio Saturday night. Don't think it's been mentioned in here at least not recently, but it's delicious. Not quite on the level of a Nobu, but a small notch down. I was pretty surprised we got a rez so easily, and the place wasn't half full when we were there. It's right next to the fountains, but it doesn't have great views unless you're at this one table in what I guess is the northeast corner behind a makeshift wall. Not sure if you can even see them from there though to be honest, so don't quote me. Some favorites of the group included: Spicy miso soup, big eye tuna pizza, tempura crab, rock shrimp (omg), and crispy kalbi. After dinner, I hustled some of our team over to MGM for dessert. Another staple every time I go is to hit Craftsteak. Didn't get dinner there, but I knew the girls would be in heaven over the monkeybread. I think I ordered three of them for five of us, and we were literally scraping the plates when we were done. Wife and I got the Two Smoking Barrels bourbon drink they serve there. For my money, there might not be a better dessert combo on the planet than that and the monkeybread with vanilla ice cream. Uber back to mid-strip, struck out getting into some club at Caesars, so it was off to pick up the whole team and head to Spearmint Rhino, many details of which will remain unsaid since I'm not so anonymous here like some of you! :P But I will say, if you bring a group of 5 girls and 3 guys (1 poor ******* wasn't feeling well and skipped it) and you get a party bus to pick you up, pay no cover, then order bottle service, and stay til almost 5am, you're gonna have a good time...

Sunday morning we all wanted to die. Instead, we had already booked a non-refundable ATV tour in the desert (yay?). Took about a half hour to get to the spot, fill out all the waivers and crap, and then another 15 min to the course. Really pretty area, just wide open spaces with mountains surrounding you, and to top it off there was an air show going on all day so we had that happening overhead. The tour was so much fun, at least until I decided to go top speed around a curve and flipped the thing on top of my leg. Still had some adrenaline left and finished the course, but man that was some scary crap. Still can't walk now two days later. Respect those things, yikes. Dined at Yardbird on the way back (another staple of every trip, thanks to you guys). That chicken and a Yardbird old fashioned really started the night off right. Then off to Zumanity. Girls liked it more than the guys, but the two chicks swimming on top of each other in an elevated pool while we were in the first row was pretty cool. Then off to gamble, drink, whatever the last night away...

And now it's back to reality. Until next time...

I was at Yardbird Sunday night too.  I was the drunk guy.
Actually, this last Sunday night at Yardbird ***I*** was the drunk guy, in the right hand entry-side corner, laughing like a hyena, after my buddy looked at his chicken and waffles and said..."That's a lot of F***IN food!" and I said, "You should make that their Yelp review" and I didn't stop laughing for an hour.  :bag:

Man, is Yardbird FBGs little secret or something? We had 3 different groups there on a random Sunday in November? Sounds like they should give @kutta some sorta finder's fee

I can only take credit for talking about it here a lot (and eating there a lot). Someone else in this thread mentioned it first and I went there based on their recommendation. Give me the advertising fee, but someone else gets the finder’s fee.

Did you include me in the 3 or did we have myself, @Michael Brown @facook And @Brony??  Although I was there from 3-4pm, so not sure if would have crossed paths with any of you.

As for the food, ill probably take some heat here, but I wasnt a huge fan of the chicken and waffles.   Dont get me wrong, it was good, but with all the talk I probably had unreasonably high recommendations.  The chicken was great, the waffle was the average part to me.  I was hoping it would be a dish I’d get every time I go to Yardbird, but it wont be.  The chicken and waffles bites at my wedding welcome party, and the chicken and waffle dish at my wedding were both tastier IMO.   Ill have to try some of the other food next time as everything the people were eating around me looked amazing.   Outside of a few extremely drunk guys who were kind of ruining the ambiance (one who sounded like a hyena) it was still a great time with good food so ill be back.

:lmao:  I was there from 9-10 pm.  We got the last available reservation apparently.

Honestly the chicken and waffles weren't as good this time to me either.  Waffle cam out only luke warm and the chicken was lava hot so we had to wait for that to cool off which made the waffle even cooler.  Oh well, still loved it.

We went sometime around 6 cause we were starving after the ATVs all day, and we hustled out to get to the show afterwards. So not sure I crossed with anyone either. My chicken was perfect btw. I didn't get the waffles or watermelon this time, sounds like I didn't miss much. I love the Yardbird old fashioned too, so gimme that and the chicken, with those chicken slider bites, and I'm set. Btw, I definitely was NOT the drunk hyena...next time I'm wearing a black-eyed Joe t-shirt as I'm fairly certain someone else will be there haha

I really wish there was a way all you guys who like yardbird could taste Gus’ world famous fried chicken.... it would likely ruin you. It’s just on a different level than anything else I’ve tried.

Not to say yardbird isn’t good stuff... just like folks who are FC fans to try Gus’s

Got a couple nights comped at the Palm in December. First time staying there. Any restaurants there I should consider dining at?

I've lived in NJ all of my 38 years, so I definitely don't know what GREAT fried chicken is like. Yardbird is the best I've had, but I've also only been to Texas or Tennessee for a couple of days apiece and never got to try the really good stuff. Looking forward to that day though GB! It's good to build up to that though. Ya don't go from drinking Jameson to Pappy overnight either :)

I’ll get there one of these days. @Joe Bryant promised me a chicken dinner if I ever get out that way. I plan to hold him to it.

Gus' is pretty phenomenal food. Yardbird is overall really good restaurant.  I enjoy both.  Just need Yardbird to incorporate Gus' tallboy prices and I'd be all set.

Yeah I would say if you're looking for a "dining experience" Yardbird is going to offer more of that. Gus' is cracked concrete floors, vinyl tablecloths, no frills but has an epic Memphis/STAX/Blues jukebox. It's a different vibe for sure.

They are in the process of redoing most of their restaurants. For fine dining, Alize is still open through NYE, can't go wrong there. If you like Chinese, the Gold Coast across the street has Ping Pang Pong (seriously), which is very solid.

Lagasse's Stadium at the Pallazo is a great place to see games with pretty good food. It's a sports book but a restaurant too.
I've done a couple of events there. I don't know of anywhere in Las Vegas that marries the sports book with restaurant better.

This. They're not remotely close as restaurants. Yardbird is just a completely different experience.

This is Yardbird https://imgur.com/a/GmSIT

Yardbird has Butternut Sage Ravioli with chive blossoms and sunflower seed brittle for a $16 appetizer.

Gus has Fried Pickles for an appetizer. Or Fried Green Tomatoes.

Yardbird has artsy type pics of Elvis on wall. Gus' IS Elvis.

Just night and day.

When does the WSOP schedule get released for 2018? Played the 500 colossus last year but didn't like the structure,  so I'm planning on doing the 1500 nl in 2018.

OK Vegas vets my 1st trip to Sin City is happening in 6 days and I have a few questions. We have a light itinerary with 1 activity planned for each day. We arrive around 1:30pm Vegas time on Sunday staying @ the Cosmopolitan. We have a 7:30 pm show @ the Collosseum @ Ceasar's. My wife is a big Reba fan so we're going to see Reba, Brooks and Dunn. I'm not a big fan of country music but I'm in Vegas so I'm good. Monday, we plan to walk the strip and that night take a helicopter ride above the strip and downtown with Maverick. Tuesday we start out on the strip and that afternoon we're going to check out Fremont Street. Wednesday more up and down the strip and that night we're going to see Absinthe partly based on the rave reviews from here. Now for my questions.

1. What does everyone do about coffee? I don't think we will have a coffee pot in the room. We will probably have between 2 - 4 cups of coffee a day. Is Starbucks pretty much gonna be my best bet? That is going to get expensive.

2. Should I download and activate Lyft and Uber before I go or wait until I get there? I've never used either and will be a newb.  We plan on using Ride Share and the LV monorail for our transportation. We have a buy one/ get one monorail 3 day pass coupon and figure it could come in handy.

3. Any recommendations for a downtown restaurant? Two that caught my eye are Chicago Brewing Company @ the Four Queens and Triple 7 at Main Street Station. Has anyone tried either of these? Those Filet Mignon Sliders @ Chicago Brewing Company look pretty tasty.

4. Has anyone tried  Wolfgang Puck Bar & Grill @ MGM? I have a $25 coupon and was wondering if it was worth going.

Any other advice and tips are welcome.

I appreciate all input. Thanks.

ETA: My wife really wants to do a gondala ride @ The Venetian. Is it worth it?

I’ll post more later, but two thoughts.

Gondola ride is pretty cool and fun. Not the best thing in the world, but if she wants to do it, it’s worth it.

Do Freemont street at night, without question. It’s a WAY better experience.

Have a great time!

Agree 100% with Kutta on doing Fremont at night. Can't imagine you'll get the experience during the daytime.

1. Can't help you, not a coffee drinker

2. Definitely get them both ahead of time. I usually run a check on both any time I'm leaving someplace, and whichever one is closer/cheaper just do that. Seriously, nothing kills a vibe faster than a cab line

3. Went to Chicago Brewing a few years back and it was really good. We hit Oscars on my last trip, also would recommend that. I've heard great things about Hugo's Cellar, but never been myself.

4. Sorry can't help with Wolfgang Puck, but if you're gonna be at MGM and you want a steak, you should go to Craftsteak instead. My :2cents:

1.  There's probably a million different options for coffee, from cheap fast food to expensive stuff.  Just go with whatever is closer to you.  Are you sure you won't have a pot in the room?  Might be worth it to check in advance.

2.  Definitely

3.  Nacho Daddy's, Pizza Rock are both solid options.  Both are casual.

4.  Not sure.

I've been to Puck's restaurant at MGM.  It's good food, but the coupon would not be reason enough for me to go there unless you just know you want quatity food from wherever and save a bit of money.  I'd second Craft Steak in MGM over Puck's.  In my opinion though, Vegas is so full of great restaurants I'd do some research and pick a "destination" meal and Puck's would never be on that list.  The places I might pick would probably be cheaper even without the coupon.

Thank you for this. I've read good things about Pizza Rock.

Thanks for the advice. We're not set on WGP. Is there a dress code at Craft Steak? We're not really interested in dressing up to go to dinner. We won't have clothes for that and will keep it casual. Hell, I'll probably be wearing a hat 80% of the time.

Here are some of the restaurants that we are interested in.

GREAT Burgr

Wicked Spoon (this is included with our package)

Shake Shack

Hash House a Gogo

Yardbird

Grand Lux

Secret Pizza

Eggslut

Holsteins

I will definitely look at Craft Steak

Eta: Peppermil is a must for me.

The Wicked Spoon brunch is awesome and they are very quick with the refills on the bottomless memosas. My wife was in a great mood for the rest of the day.

Eggslut was alright but some people really seem to love that place. Not worth the wait and price imo.

Secret pizza is decent and quick, prefect when you're drunk but gets super busy late at night because of the clubs.

Nacho Daddy was pretty good and is right around the corner from Planet Hollywood.

Our favorite meal last trip was at the Terrace Point Cafe at the Wynn. A little expensive but wow.

Regarding Absinthe, we actually weren't impressed. Very juvenile and over the top humor. My best friend said it was the best show they've been to so YMMV. We liked Love, One and Zumanity better.

Not sure when the schedule is released, I think sometime in February. There are usually a couple of $1500NL events and the past few years one of them has been the weekend before the Main Event. Main Event has been starting 8th/9th/10th timeframe so you can play the $1500 over July 4th weekend.

I think on someone’s advice here, a couple of years back we went Moroccan meal. Can’t remember the name. It was cool. Off the strip, but good times and unique.
