When booking things (flight + hotel) for early September, how far in advance is the best time to get the best deals?

Better to book 4 months in advance or 4 weeks in advance (or somewhere in between?)

4 weeks = 8: hottest at the club4 months = 9: tops regionallyThe 10 is elusive and depends on a lot of factors including load factor, airline schedules etc.

I'll be up there this weekend if anyone is around. Staying off strip but should be on playing poker and going out Sat night

So I plan on getting a tattoo I've been putting off for almost 10 years now, I still think I want it so I guess it's time to get it. Any recommendations of shops or artists? I don't need it to be realistic or incredibly detailed, just something simple with maybe the artist's spin on the image I had in mind.

Marquee Nightclub at Cosmopolitan was completely packed with nice looking broads on Monday night. Getting in there is like getting into the Pentagon but it was worth it for the scenery.

Sucks to admit, but I'm pretty gunshy of the clubs in Las Vegas. From my experience they do not mix well with Wisconsin binge drinking habits. I think the last three I've been I've ended up spending over $1,000 each. Do other people have this problem?

We had a great time at XS and a not so good time at Marquee. Of course we got stuck in a corner at Marquee, and had the best table in the house at XS. We also hooked up with a very hot bachelorette party and got them into XS.

This place does awesome work - Studio 21. I highly recommend. If you want the best you'll need to wait for Austin but that could be a while. I would trust all the others as well but you should choose one based on their portfolio matching your style obviously. Good luck.

Is that even a good deal? I bid $92 on Priceline knowing I'd either get Wynn, Encore, or Venetian and ended up at Wynn during a weekend stay in the winter.

Yeah, the "thanks mrdejected" was a giveaway. I asked because I was too lazy to figure out if taxes etc were included.

Just got back in from my trip to Vegas and it was pretty cool. I stayed at the Cosmopolitan and it was pretty cool. I enjoyed the setting and the rooms were awesome. It's a pretty new hotel, so everything was really nice. I didn't see rooms in any other hotels, so I can't compare to anywhere else, but I can say that the only hotel that matched the ambiance of the Cosmo was the Bellagio or the Mandalay Bay. I didn't get to the Wynn or the Palms, but I hear they are cool too.

I did most of my gambling at Planet Hollywood. Definately the spot for your thirtysomething crowd. Most of the female dealers are wearing corsets and panties, so the scenary is sweet also. There were some girls dancing on the tables during the night time, so the entertainment factor is high.

As far as eating goes, no one matches the Bellagio buffet. There food was two levels above any other place I ate at. The variety on their buffet was unmatched. I also ate at the Planet Hollywood buffet (5 out of 10 rating), and the Wicked Spoon, which is the buffet at Cosmopolitan. The Wicked Spoon is a different type of feel, and the food is still pretty good. They appear to put more of an emphasis on the appearance of the food more so than the quality. I would give them a 7 out of 10 rating.

All in all, it was a pretty cool trip and I am already planning the next one.

Went to Vegas for TigerJam a week ago and was shocked that the majority of restaurants at Mandalay Bay had discounts on restaurants.com. Used them like crazy. Lunch at House of Blues, breakfast at Raffles, group went for dinner at Shanghai Lilly, etc. To me the high end restaurants are so so there, but you couldn't beat the breakfast/lunch options. HOB was $2 for a $25 certificate, only had to spend $35 (not the usual $50). Can't beat it.

Nice summary. Flight set for June 16th. Haven't booked my hotel yet but will have to look into Planet Hollywood.I've stayed at the Palms the last few times I've been and haven't left the property for either gambling or clubs... and want to stay on the strip this time.Did you go to any of the clubs?

Heading out in August this year. Wife wants to do something touristy...

Staying at Aria this time, may try and golf one day. Trying to convince her NO clubs this time... :oldguyat39:

This is our 4th trip and I think I'm almost "done" with Vegas unless I go with a group of guys...

So whats it like to go with the wife? I go once a year with a few friends but I would never even think of bringing the wife. Fortunately she has no interest at all in joining me either. We don't exactly go crazy (just stick to poker/blackjack 24/7) but I just can't imagine having fun with whatever restrictions come along with the wife.

Not too bad, the first time we "did it up" Stayed at the Venetian in a "suite", open bar, We hit a couple shows, gambled, went to 4 nightclubs, pool. Nothing super crazy but we had a good time, her sister and husband were out there so we had a couple to hang with.Second time WAS way more lowkey, gambled, pool, see all the casinos etc only.

Last time we stayed for free in bally's, hit paris and planet hollywood to gamble, went to hoover damn one day (tourist).

It's not as bad as you think I guess, sure she reels me in when I want to drop more money on a cold table and I don't get completely hammered like I probably would with a group of guys. SHe likes the clubs and that really isn't my thing, I was the "good soldier" the first trip and did enjoy myself but we had VIP entrance through our concierge so that saved on $$$ and lines. The last trips have been all winging it.

She's out for a conference and this time I'm going the same time so I have most of my days free  I'm not a huge party guy anymore

Yeah, I went to Marquee. Its in the Cosmopolitan. The eye candy was everywhere, all half dressed. Its 2 floors, with seven bars. Definately recommended.

I'll chime in here since I'm heading there on sunday with the wife (we've gone twice before). I guess more than anything else it depends on your wife's personality. My wife is a social bug who loves to sit at the tables gamble, drink, smoke a little, talk to the dealers and other players. She and I are really into the whole social aspect of it. We also both like just walking around checking things out, cracking each other up, going to shows, etc. She loves to drink and we can always go back to the room for some serious action. That in itself is nice when you've got two teenagers running around at home. So I'd say if your wife is social and fun loving, you'll have a lot of fun in Vegas, if not, than not so much.

Just booked through Hotwire for 6/16-6/20!

Bid $55 on 4 star and 5 star hotels in North Strip. Got denied. Bid $70 and added South Strip and was accepted at PH Towers.

After tax and fees comes out to $81 dollars a night, not too bad considering their website has it listed at $130 per night.

I've never stayed there. Anyone have any experiences with PH Towers?

Haven't stayed there myself but it's a new property and rooms are decent size. It's not on the strip; it's behind the mall, so you have to go through the mall if you're walking to the strip. In this regard, it's similar to MGM Signature where's it's about a half mile haul from the Signature Lobby to the walkway to NY/NY.

About how long of a walk would you say? 5 minutes?

I go all the time with my wife (probably 2 or 3 times per year). We love it and actually have a very good time.My wife is not really all that social. She loves to shop and play slots. So our days consist of me playing poker and her shopping. We maybe meet up for lunch and go back to doing our thing. We have a really nice dinner and maybe hang out and play slots or blackjack together. We go to the room and take care of business. She reads and I go back and play poker until the wee hours of the morning. The next day we get up and do it all over again.

The key is to have a wife that likes to do her own thing for awhile. If she can kill time shopping and going to the spa while you do your thing, it works out great.

Help me understand what the enjoyment with playing hours of slots is? I just don't get how pulling a lever and "hoping" something good happens is hours of fun.

I'm not a fan either, but one could say the same of roulette and blackjack. Sure, you need to know a modicum of "strategy" which isn't much more complex than tic tac toe strategy and you have some activity (throwing the dice, waving your hand), but it's still just sitting there and hoping something good happens.

I've gotten lost in that mall while sober in the afternoon.I looked at a map. PH Towers isn't quite as far from the strip as MGM Signature is. By the time you factor in the curved walkways, I'd estimate it at somewhere around 1/3 mile, maybe a little less. I kind of like the Planet Hollywood casino, at least the layout and lighting is a little different than the usual slot barn.

Going in a month...

I got real used to finding great deals to stay at MGM on fatwallet. I don't see anything on there right now. What's up with that?

The only time I play is with my wife. She isn't skilled or comfortable to play table games, so she likes to get a few free drinks and just relax at a machine for awhile. I agree that it is pretty dumb, but it's not a bad way to spend an afternoon hanging with the wife drinking.

It would take 5 minutes to teach her a little bit about craps. My wife learned just enough to make pass line bets and had a great time.

I agree with Kutta. My wife has no desire to learn a table game.

anyone have a prefered limo service in Vegas? We have booked a house off-strip, and are looking for transportation TO the strip on both Friday and Saturday night. I feel like I am getting 'tourist' prices when I call limo companies, and am looking for a personal reference.

PM me if you have info.

Best two 'inexpensive' restaurants in Vegas:

Firefly - tapas bar with amazing food...the almond stuffed dates w/ a balsamic reduction is the single best food I've ever tasted

Lotus of Siam - generally accepted as the best Thai restaurant in the USA. Just east of the Sahara.

I'll be there for 2 days on my birthday in early June, free, thanks to work

Will be staying at MGM during 4th of July weekend. Will be going with a couple of buddies from work tentative plan is heavy drinking and lots of clubbing. Any suggestions (group age range is 25-30) on where to go. Been to Vegas a couple of times now but wondering if their is any specific location to go during 4th of july.

I'm not a clubbing kind of guy, so this recommendation might be lame, but the bar at Mix at Mandalay Bay has the best view of the strip you will ever see, especially at night. If you are looking for a fantastic dinner, or just a place to have some drinks before "really" going out, you should check it out. I'm not sure if they do fireworks on the strip for the fourth (I was there about six years ago and they didn't do anything), but if they do, I would spend the evening at Mix and watch the show.

Thanks for the suggestion what type of lady demographic frequents Mix?

Please expand on the bolded.(The thirty something part)

A thirty something here and the reason I like PH is the fact that it seems to have more 20 something chicks than other casinos.Regarding the wifey talk, my fiance and I are looking to head out there (she'll be the wife by then). Should be a blast at the clubs, different food options (she'll probably want a show, any help?) and a fun social place, as mentioned. If you are into the scene.

Just got back.........

I didn't care for planet hollywood. I gambled there one night, played for like 3 hours and won money, but it was so effing loud in there. Yes, there were some scantily clad gals in there prancing and dancing around, but I didn't care for it. Did go to sin city comedy club or wtf it's called, and although I'm not a huge fan of comedy clubs in general, one guy in that deal had me ####### rolling with laughter. Paid like 40 bucks each for the "vip" seats, but there is really no need, as it's a very small venue.

Stayed at Paris, had a nice room, upgraded when I checked in. I was comped when I booked, upgrade cost me 40 bucks for the two weekend nights each, and when I checked out, my points paid for it so it was worth it, imo. Paris was more my speed when I gambled, wasn't too loud or too smokey, tons of tables, you can find 10 dollar tables even on weekends without too much trouble. Small sportsbook, three or four bars around the casino. Not sure I'd stay there again necessarily, but I wouldn't not stay there again either. You can walk to Bally's from Paris too, made most of my money at Ballys which was nice.

Let's see.....I've been to Vegas probably 25-30 times, but only 3 or so times in the last 5 years. This was the first time ever I went to a show(s). I kinda liked the shows.

They have those half price or discount ticket places all around town, and I was skeptical. But, I'll vouch for them. Wanted to see Penn and Teller at Rio. I was figuring about 100 bucks each for the tickets, 10-15 dollar cab ride each way, and then dinner. While at the casino royale shooting some dice, took notice of the discount ticket window, so went over and was immediately accosted by an affable young woman. She gave me the sell on the tickets, so I said, okay, what's the worst that could happen. So, bought two tickets to Penn and Teller for 50 bucks each. Then they asked me where I was eating, told them I didn't know, said for 3 bucks they would give me a 2-1 entree coupon for one of a number of restaurants at the Rio. They even had the menus there, so I said okay, and they made the reservations for me. And they told me about a free shuttle from Ballys to Rio, so I took that too. I really didn't need the 3 buck coupon for the 2-1 entree coupon, as the Penn and Teller ticket stub offered a 25% off a meal at rio deal, but it was only 3 bucks so I can't complain. Penn and Teller put on a pretty good show too.

Oh yeah, used the hookup from this thread for O tickets too (thank you to whomever posted - think it was Judge Smails, but not sure right now). little story....bought the tickets about a week or two before the show. tickets were at the concierge desk the day before the show. Well, when I went to the show, showed them my tickts, they scanned them and there was a problem, told me I needed to go to the counter. :wall: Guy at the counter told me the tickets had a problem, asked me where I got them, etc... :wall: At this point I figured I had been scammed, so although I was slightly peeved, I figured I'd give me girl a text/call and see wtf was going on. 5 minutes later, got a call back and she apologized profusely and asked me if I could go back and ask for so and so and I'd have new tickets waiting for me. Went back, before I get to the counter, a nice young woman asks if I'm mr. guru, I said yes, and she hands me two new tickets. Okay, walk to the door, and they work this time, no problem, like 6th row, dead center, awesome show.

After this trip, I think I'm officially old. 6 days is probably more than I should go anymore, I'd should probably stick to 3 day trips :bag:

Bally's or Harrah's?

Who has the better "deluxe" or basic room and the best cheap food. Looking to keep this cheap without sleeping in a slum of a room.
