Also the name of my #76th favorite Dylan song.DRINKING A LOT AND TRYING TO SHAKE A CRAZY PERSON.
The 17th and the 18th lists just came in and they each have the same #1, and it hasn't been chosen #1 til then. This is crazy.

113. Rocky Raccoon (White Album, 1968)
Beatles version: Spotify YouTube
I like that Paul tried to do a cowboy song. It's charming. Love the harmonica. Beautiful vocal. Sweet little encapsulated story, even though I find some of the lyrics grating and forced: Her name was Magill, and she called herself Lil, but everyone knew her as Nancy. But I dock this song a full 50 slots solely because I HATE the fake drawl at the beginning. Somewhere earlier in the thread @Uruk-Hai pointed out that Paul and John needed to edit themselves better sometimes. I think Paul just needed a best friend to tell him not to do this ####, and during the White Album years John was not that best friend, nor was anyone else. I can't fully express how much I love/hate this song, with probably more mixed feelings about it than any other in their repertoire.
Mr. krista does not have mixed feelings: "I hate that he can’t resist to throw in a jaunty piano part. The fake cowboy drawl is ludicrous. It’s as bad as an American singing in an affected British accent. I hate that it seems C/W/blues/folk – these are American forms, and it seems like he’s making fun of it. He’s not, but it seems smug. It really really bothers me. You don’t fully understand this #### so leave it the #### alone. It’s like Willie Nelson trying to play the Sex Pistols – Willie, leave it alone. It’s not your jam. Or Miles Davis playing…well, Miles Davis probably could."
Suggested covers: Eddie Vedder & Jack Johnson This version, lacking a fake cowboy accent, would be ranked much, much higher on my list. Lena Horne (thanks to @Eephus for this one). FFA's own Nipsey.
Sing me a song from the 60s!Oh, great. Now the thread is both drunk and performing karaoke per request on a Friday night.
LOLZ. I can hear ya. I can hear ya, Ringo!
It was taken yonder yore and we watched it in our dreams/but we knew 'twould be forsaken if it wasn't in the seams (In our seams!)/We all live in a Yellow Submarine...yellow submarine...yellow submarineSing me a song from the 60s!
I don't think that's the case at all - at least, not with me (& I doubt most of the others, too). I don't have In My Life on my list. Great song, but I just don't like it as much as those I picked. A Day In The Life didn't make the cut, either. And I have one song WAY up there that krista's already featured.Once you started posting stats, people were going to do #### like leave In My Life off just to be contrary.
THANK YOU.I don't think that's the case at all - at least, not with me (& I doubt most of the others, too). I don't have In My Life on my list. We're talking about a group of 120 or so of the greatest records ever made. People were already hollering "too low!" before we got to #150. I doesn't surprise me that we have so much variance - though it does surprise me that we got there so quickly.
Need to know, btw.And I have one song WAY up there that krista's already featured.
Why the hell were you changing the station in the first place?Imagine a very good Beatles song is on the radio and just when the chorus is about to hit I change the station and that station also has a Beatles song on!
I totally agree about the Stones. They have some great songs but i consider them to be quite overrated as a band. Mick Jagger's voice annoys me after just a few songs. Let's stick with the Beatles.Neil Young is a great idea. Stones might be good for me personally because, except for maybe 25-30 songs, I don’t much get the appeal. Probably need someone to give me a good guided tour rather than some “Satisfaction is the best evah!!!1111one” stuff.
The back cover shows it clearly.zamboni said:Interestingly enough it's hard to tell on the actual album cover whether the period is actually there . Must have been something Paul took to his grave.
The problem with that is he’s still putting out new music so if you did his entire song list it would be likely close to 10x this.I do think Dylan is a good choice for someone (not me) to do something like this.
Phish songs?Sent my list to Getz. Was resisting because it is taking away precious time from my other project, which this thread has inspired me to finish.
It won't help much now (Sambuca would though!), but I thought your response in the "how many homes have you live in?" thread was the funniest thing I've read on this board in a long time.
The first 4 or 5 lists that came in had a lot of the perceived faves, but they also had a ton of different songs on the lists. That's why I wanted to do 25 song lists instead of ten.I don't think that's the case at all - at least, not with me (& I doubt most of the others, too). I don't have In My Life on my list. Great song, but I just don't like it as much as those I picked. A Day In The Life didn't make the cut, either. And I have one song WAY up there that krista's already featured.

I don't have an answer for the HISS, though. As a krista fan it pains me to see ‘Lady Madonna’ ranked so low — BOO HISS HISS.
You added two songs that no one had selected before.List sent to Getz. I didn't agonize over it too much but I don't think I had any wild outliers.
not much of a list guy. kristapix™ or my own?You added two songs that no one had selected before.
One of them is rather shocking. I had to triple check to make sure I had to add it and could not believe it wasn't on a prior list.
19 lists now
@wikkidpissah would really like to get one from you if you could.
your own top 25 PM to me.not much of a list guy. kristapix™ or my own?
k - i know i have a top 10 in the ol' Beatles thread, so i'll flush that outyour own top 25 PM to me.
107. No Reply (Beatles for Sale, 1964)

My write-ups are going to be lacking in energy today. This is a great song. I don't know why it's not in the top half, except that other songs are instead.
I'll try to do better on the next write-up. Maybe I"ll edit these later.
Mr. krista: "You creepy stalker. Take a hint, man."
Suggested covers: The Flames - the song is just ok, but that album cover is mint. Gary Holton & Casino Steel - again not a good song, but in this case worth watching for the video. Hey, the lyrics say "telephone," so let's show a phone! There's a reference to looking through a window, so let's have him at a window! I didn't stick around to see how they acted out "I nearly died."
I hear ya. Don't like lists much myself.not much of a list guy. kristapix™ or my own?
Yeah, you'll see it got worse. I'll regroup a little later.
Gracious. That bad?
Just covering your bases!Ok, a stab at krista's top 10:
Yesterday
In My Life
Run For Your Life
Taxman
And Your Bird Can Sing
With a Little Help From My Friends
While My Guitar Gently Weeps
medley
Let It Be
Strawberry Fields Forever
(note: I'm irrationally submitting a top-10 list that doesn't include the song I said would be her #1 song......)
