Watched it a second time. I have to point out one small correction- they actually did mention Christopher's baby's name. Once. Carmela was holding onto her before the baptism, and she looked down and called her Kaitlyn (or however you want to spell it). It was the scene where her and Christopher argued about how Sally Boy's character slept with the fiance.

I also caught something else that seemed a little more than coincidence. Both "Soprano Home Movies" and "Stage 5" have had 47th birthday parties (Tony's and Billy Leotardo's) that involved bitter reflections over the things they should or shouldn't have done (Tony with bringing Christopher along as his successor, Phil and his lack of retribution for his brother's death). The big difference between the two is that Phil swears to Butch that that is about to change.

One thing I thought was a bit unrealistic as I watched again. When The Hairdo gets it in the restaurant, you hear Silvio say in an almost casual tone after the initial volley of bullets, "Come on, let's go." Yes it's a bit rushed, but come on. A guy just gets shot multiple times right at your table and you're that calm? And then he herds the girls out of the restaurant at hardly more than a brisk walk. We find out later that Silvio had no idea the hit was coming. How could he be so calm?It's a small point, I know.

Someone mentioned it here already. It had to do with the orderly who was a great doctor but ended up killing his wife, the mailman (because he was "committed now" ) and someone else. Sac was saying how he is still a great mind and his son(?) said the OJ line.

Unless he is working with Phil or someone else in the NY crew. If you remember, going back to the problem Tony B., Syl seemed less than thrilled with Tony's leadership. He also seemed to enjoy being acting boss when Tony was in the hospital and his wife was pumping the idea into his head. I remember one scene where he was getting dressed and his wife was saying how great it would be if he were eventually boss.Maybe Syl has some friends in NY that could help him become the #1 man in NJ should Tony "enter the witness protection program."

Sometimes chemo can cause you to bloat up, too. That happened to an uncle of mine.

Yes, he did love it at that specific time, but the stress of the whole thing almost killed him, so I do not think he has those aspirations (so to speak) any longer.

If I remember correctly Silvio changed his tune after he was rushed to the hospital with the panic attacks, etc. It's been a while but I think he said something along the lines "Don't know how you do it T, everyone wants a piece of you" or something like that.

Incidentally, a buddy of mine won tickets to a "Sopranos viewing party" last night at a big restaurant that opened around here. The actors who play Johnny Sac and Furio were supposed to show up, but I guess Vince Curatola (Johnny) could not make it, so Artie showed up instead with Furio.

My buddy says to Foolio... "So, are you coming back this season or what?"

"Furio" looks at "Artie"... pauses and says "I can't say."

"I can't say" = "HELL yes"

I'd be surprised to see Furio again, simply because that actor and David Chase did not get along at all.

I remember reading something about Furio bringing his reporter g/f to the set once, and she wrote in her column about some of the things Chase did not want getting out yet. Furio's character did not last long after that supposedly. Not sure how reliable the source of that was. It is just something I remember reading.

I don't know about the former but I definitely agree about the latter. The look in Chris' eyes spoke volumes about how unsettled he now feels about his own future and his relationship with Tony.A great scene in a truly great episode and I agree that it was MUCH better than anything last season. This is the kind of stuff that makes "The Sopranos" great. The scene with Melfi was pure gold.

Agreed. It's tough to decide what was worse - last season's Vito's Gay Romp or the Furio-Carm "Love Story." Two truly painful subplots to watch.

I do think the iranians are going to have a part in the end. All of this talk about Sacs being a rat and phil wasnt one, and one died and the other survived, and the feds wanting tony to be "a rat", have to tie in at the end imho.

Yup -- definitely got goosebumps with the hug scene.Can't wait to watch it again tonight.

First, the conversation between Syl and "Hairdo" was also ironic. Syl basically went through the same ordeal. He was "acting" boss and had to go to the emergency room. Of course, he sticks up for Phil.

Second, I think Tony is trying to care what is causing Christopher to feel the way he does. As usual he can't except his role in it. He thinks that because he ultimately didn't bang Ade that he wasn't in the wrong. He can't understand how someone continues to let drugs or booze drag them down. BUT, I don't think he can ever think of Chris as expendable. Which makes him very vulnerable.

Finally, Johnny Sac was one of the top five characters of this series. I would have liked to see this drawn out over two or three episodes. It felt very rushed. But all-in-all I was happy with his exit. Great scenes. If you have ever had a loved one who has fought cancer, the first scene in the doctor's office probaby got to you. "There is no Stage 5". That gave me chills.

Looks to me like Paulie's loyalty is being questioned and he might get whacked.

Paulie's loyalty has always been a shaky thing. Remember his talks with Johnny Sack back in the day before he found out that Carmine had no idea who he was? And even Tony and Silvio know that he never kicks up the full amount when giving his tributes. Paulie is a selfish *******, even moreso than the others, and it is only a matter of time before that bites him in the butt. I really miss the humor in his character. Once he became bitter, his character was more of a #### than anything else.

With Sac gone it's now a moot point, but I've always wondered about the plot potential of Paulie telling Sac that it was Ralphie who made the joke about Ginny, and what would have happened if Tony ever found out.

man, that episode rocked my world. that was AWESOME.not sure what was best: Gerry Hairdo getting shot (great the way they filmed it); the Melfi scene (best Melfi scene I ever remember seeing); or the ending with Chris and Tony hugging.loved it loved it loved it.

I said the same thing last night! The one thing I'm good at is seeing things in movies and in shows as they develop. I really don't like it because I'm rarely surprised but everything in these early episodes is for a reason. I think I enjoyed the Sopranos over the years because it was fairly unpredictable but I'm not sure this last season will be. But for me as long as it's good quality programming and doesn't have a corny ending (like Anthony Junior taking over or Baccala ratting Tony out) then I'll enjoy it.

Still think there's a huge piece in the last episodes from AJ. Not sure what that's going to be though.

Hopefully he's the family member Levin is referring to. AJ could screw up the whole ending of this show. Having him dead would be good for the show and the action would increase ten fold.

Who is the last mob boss, either on film or in real life, that didn't end up in jail or dead? I expect Tony to be dead at the end of this season.

Film and television are two different animals though. We've had years to "develop a relationship" with Tony alot more than any mob boss in a movie.

A reason- AJ has been a kid until the end of last season when he hooked up with la chica. Now he's got his goofy facial hair and a "family" of his own to look after. I think the implication is that he's now a man, so I could see where he would increase his link to activities (like trying to take out Jr).Not saying this will happen- just saying it's an answer to your question.

I think people are hopelessly holding on to this thinking that there is some grand part AJ is going to play in these last episodes and the lasting legacy of the show. I’m more inclined to think he’s nothing more than a regular cog and everyone wanting him to be something more is going to be “Russian in the woods” disappointed.

So I hate to compare a show like this to "Friends" but everyone knew during the series finale of "Friends" that Ross and Rachel would get together.

What are the chances that Tony dies (maybe at the hands of Christopher) at the end of the series? I'd like to think slim/none, but I guess you never know?

Personally, I think AJ is going to play a huge role in the last episodes, but

Who is the last mob boss, either on film or in real life, that didn't end up in jail or dead? I expect Tony to be dead at the end of this season.

Film and television are two different animals though. We've had years to "develop a relationship" with Tony alot more than any mob boss in a movie.

True, which would make it that much more dramatic and intense.

One thing I thought was a bit unrealistic as I watched again. When The Hairdo gets it in the restaurant, you hear Silvio say in an almost casual tone after the initial volley of bullets, "Come on, let's go." Yes it's a bit rushed, but come on. A guy just gets shot multiple times right at your table and you're that calm? And then he herds the girls out of the restaurant at hardly more than a brisk walk. We find out later that Silvio had no idea the hit was coming. How could he be so calm?It's a small point, I know.

It may have been said already, but that was likely a direct homage to the great Godfather scene when Solozzo and Police Chief McCluskey get whacked at Louie's, and Michael kind of rushes out after being told to do so matter-of-factly.I also liked the episode - one of the better ones in recent years. This also may have been said, but a very underrated moment was when the TV news was reporting Hairdo's killing and his being successor to Johnny Sac. Then the scene flash to Peter Bogdanovich (also Melfi's shrink), who says "I had my money on Doc."

So are you saying that Christopher didn't even realize what he was doing with the movie where the boss was hooking up with the fiancee? Interesting....

That makes sense that everything came out from a sub-conscious level. I agree with the belief that Christopher is ultra-loyal to Tony even if Tony isn't sure of it. But there's also no question in my mind that Christopher has a lot of pent-up issues regarding Tony and likely some jealousy as well. I don't think he wants Tony dead as in life imitating his art, but he does resent the powerful hold Tony has on his life and everything in it.

I've felt since last season that, if Chase really will finish the show, Chris will kill Tony in the finale. Tony is no fool and knows that the movie storyline reflects his life. Cleaver will make no money and Tony will get on Chris' case. Maybe Chris will go off the deep end again on drugs or the overall dynamic between the two will play out and Christophuh will finally lash out at Tony. If David Chase truly wants to finish the show with this final season, Tony must die. Going to jail leaves it too open. Maybe a senseless killing of Tony will reflect the life of the gangster but I don't believe Chase will let that be anti-climactic.
