Savage signed the best OL availlable in free agency when the Browns signed Bentley. It just didn't work out for this year. I think some fans forget about the Bentley signing due to his not playing because of his injury. Savage's biggest mistake IMO is the hiring of Crennel and his coaching staff. Browns have been a lot more competitive this year, but just don't have the talent yet to overcome shoddy play calling. The impression I'm getting is if Phil Savage had drafted some OL high by now in the first two drafts, like first day picks, the fans would be willing to give this more time. But the fact that they aren't putting all their resources into fixing this is making the fans decide to show less patience. The Browns better start winning in 2007.
spending a lot of money on a center doesn't cover the fact that they have zero depth on the line because they've spent 2 day one picks on OL since the team came back in '99.if they go one more draft without taking OL early and draft another ####### WR on the first day, i will completely lose my mind.Savage signed the best OL availlable in free agency when the Browns signed Bentley. i still like Crennel, but i think everyone realized from the begining that he didn't know anything about offense, and that he was going to need a lot of help in that area. unfortunately, that's still true.Savage's biggest mistake IMO is the hiring of Crennel and his coaching staff. The OL line depth was supposed to be Hallen at c/g until he had a meltdown, and Dorsey a T until we could get another one next year. We had alot of holes to fill on defense too remember. In Savage's short time here, he's had more picks pan out than Davis had his whole Browns career. Romeo is a good coach, but he's too loyal and should have pulled play calling duties from Mo by now. I think there lies some of the problems. If Romeo takes play calling duties away from Carthon, who is left to call the plays. Romeo is less qualified to call offensive plays than Carthon. I know Winslow will go "TO" if the play calling does not improve soon. It just seems that the Browns are not fully utilizing the few playmakers that they do have on the team. Robiskie is probably the only coach in house who Romeo could turn the playcalling over to. But hasn't he failed in that regard with us under Butch?I think there lies some of the problems. He took over in 04' as head coach after they fired Davis. I don't think he was calling the plays but the Browns we god awful at the end of 04'.If Carthon would just sit up in the booth he might just see why his play calling consistantly fails. Romeo needs to do something about it before the team looses respect for him.Who the hell uses fullback sweeps and option passes on 3rd and 1 or less? Who takes Winslow off the field in 3rd and more that 3? It's just ######ed.Robiskie is probably the only coach in house who Romeo could turn the playcalling over to. I think you're right. But for some reason I kept thinking he was calling the plays when he took over HC duties. Can't think of who the OC was though. The one thing Robiskie has going for him, the players DO respect him.He took over in 04' as head coach after they fired Davis. i agree. Lawrence Vickers' arm is not being utilized nearly enough.i am also not that high on Carthon, but i do enjoy when he opens up the playbook. he just doesnt do it often enough for me, with our current roster/ weapons

Then you become predictable. I want an offense where the DC on the other side will have no idea what's coming. Also, that play with Vickers running it doesn't work on anything except 3rd and 1 (maybe 4th and short). It's not like you can pound it on 3rd and short all the time and run that play on 1st and 10 or 2nd and 7.That's why we've not only seen Vickers throwing the ball on a toss sweep, but we've also seen Vickers on a regular sweep/stretch play(s), all on 3rd/4th and short. Problem is, none of those plays have generated a 1st down iirc. The solution...maybe do it with different personel? How many times this year have we seen playaction pass (maybe with a boot mixed in) on 3rd and 1 or 2 yards? I can't recall any, I'm sure there's been a few, although I could be way off.i agree. First Vickers need to be succesfull poundng the ball and then you can think of running the trick play to keep defenses honest. So far he has 2 attempts for 0 yards.Bobcat10 said:Then you become predictable. I want an offense where the DC on the other side will have no idea what's coming. I'm hoping that Cribbs gets worked into a Randle El type mode, but they show no signs of it. Picture plays like Cribbs coming in motion taking a handoff to go around the end or option pass. He is a former QB, much more successful than Frisman btw. Would those things work, I don't know, but it's got to be more successful than Vickers attempting them. All that said, Carthon still needs to be shown the door in Berea.

exactly. this is exactly what i was screaming at the TV. if you're going to try this stuff, let Cribbs do it.i loved the comment by the color guy after that play: "In case you're wondering, Vickers did NOT play quarterback in high school."Bobcat10 said:I'm hoping that Cribbs gets worked into a Randle El type mode, but they show no signs of it. The problem is that we knew going into this season that the additions to the OL were guys that were better at run blocking than pass blocking. Yet we run this wide-open offense. We get 3rd and short and do slow-developing tosses or halfback option passes instead of just pouding it for a first down. We should be a running team with this OL. I suspected by the way the preseason was going towards the end that the plan to be run-oriented was going out the window, which disturbed me quite a bit.exactly. this is exactly what i was screaming at the TV. if you're going to try this stuff, let Cribbs do it.i loved the comment by the color guy after that play: "In case you're wondering, Vickers did NOT play quarterback in high school."I'm hoping that Cribbs gets worked into a Randle El type mode, but they show no signs of it. Prediction?Latest news:+ QB Charlie Frye was able to lift weights for the first time in 5 weeks. Apparently, he had been too sore to do so from all the hits he had been taking.+ Both starting CBs should be ready to go this week against the Broncos. Gary Baxter has missed the last 3 games and Leigh Bodden missed the last game vs the Panthers.

Two poor offenses. I always said when Belichick coached the Browns that he tried to win every game 16-7. I'll say 16-7 Broncos. The Broncos should be favored. But I'd say the Browns have a decent shot to win, like 65% Broncos will win to 35% Browns will win.Prediction?Latest news:+ QB Charlie Frye was able to lift weights for the first time in 5 weeks. When Belichick coached the Browns, it seemed like every week our offense would do little but the opponent's offense would struggle some as well. So I always said Belichick wanted to win every game 16-7. 16-7 thus is the score I like to use whenever I expect to see two poor offenses. What does Belichick have to do with the Browns-Broncos game? Two poor offenses. more from browns world:+ The rumor is that offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon has two weeks to show the coaching staff that he should keep his job. If nothing improves, further changes will be made. Romeo Crennel has already said he will have a larger role in the offense.
:(+ CB Leigh Bodden was seen back in a boot friday - downgrade him.
+ TE Kellen Winslow was able to participate in every practice and team drill this week. This is the first time all season he has done so.

I totally agree, he may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but he is a beast on the field. It's a good sign Winslow is practicing again, hopefully he will be on the field the entire game for a change. One thing I noticed is that the Browns run every time when Winslow is not on the field other than obvious passing downs (you'd think he would be in on these alsoi personally think he should be in the game every single offensive snap of the game. (well, maybe not punts.)

I don't think a single homer cares about Travis Wilson. The homers don't want a sleeper WR. They want a sleeper offensive lineman. Who really cares if we keep drafting WRs on day 1 if the QB gets killed every year because the OL can't pass block?wannabee said:I would like to hear what the homers think of Travis Wilson. this is true. but since they did draft him, i'd like to know where the hell the guy is.I don't think a single homer cares about Travis Wilson. The homers don't want a sleeper WR. ok, maybe "every single snap" is an overstatement.but the kid makes plays, and seems to rarely drop a pass.also, like schaef2k said, if he's only ever in on certain packages, the defense has to know what is coming.i just can't see how anyone could argue against more playing time for KW2.There are a couple of things that people seem to be missing here, and I am assuming they have been watching the games.1) Winslow does not block for crap, and sometimes Charlie pays dearly for that.2) Winslow still does not know all of the right routes to run.So you guys can slam MoRon all you want and he deserves it, but saying Winslow should be on the field at all times is wrong. For the two reasons above, plus the fact that he has a bum knee. You would think siince he had the whole last season to study his playbook he would know it inside out, but I doubt he looked at it much myself. The kid can be all he wants to be, but I sure hope it is not the next TO!!
i didn't see the whole game, but the Browns were still in it in the 4th quarter.
All valid answers so far.I personally think he's got a great chance to be starting opposite Edwards by the middle of next year, assuming he sees some playing time this year.this is true. but since they did draft him, i'd like to know where the hell the guy is.I don't think a single homer cares about Travis Wilson.
