The browns have a better team than I figured this year. Too bad that KW2 couldn't keep his head out of his butt or they would be even better. The afc, and especially the north, is very tough and I would imagine 2008 is the year the browns make a push.

3rd and inches, the Browns run a halfback option pass with fullback Lawrence Vickers.

the ball fell incomplete (and by incomplete i mean it wasn't even ####### close) to Kellen Winslow, who was asked about the play and had this to say:

+ The hot topic is still offensive coordinator Maurice Carthon. They continue to report that Carthon does not have the respect of his players. The team continues to make questionable play calls. I believe one of the Panthers commented after their 20-12 win over the Browns that it was easy to tell what play was coming. Head coach Romeo Crennel didn't strongly endorse Carthon when asked this week, prefering to talk about how every area of the team will be under review.

+ The next two opponents, the Broncos and Jets, are far from perfect clubs. The Jets are one of the clubs I designated a "must-win" because they are just a bad team. The Broncos have a very strong defense but are perhaps even worse than the Browns on offense. The Bronco game could be one we can get.

I think some fans forget about the Bentley signing due to his not playing because of his injury. Savage's biggest mistake IMO is the hiring of Crennel and his coaching staff. Browns have been a lot more competitive this year, but just don't have the talent yet to overcome shoddy play calling.

In Savage's short time here, he's had more picks pan out than Davis had his whole Browns career. Romeo is a good coach, but he's too loyal and should have pulled play calling duties from Mo by now. We have more talent on offense than we are showing on the field. The line is starting to gell. It's not grat, but it's better than last year.

If RAC is going to hand over the play-calling duties, why not Davidson (oline coach)? He certainly can't do any worse than Carthon or Robiskie.

I think you're right. But for some reason I kept thinking he was calling the plays when he took over HC duties. Can't think of who the OC was though. The one thing Robiskie has going for him, the players DO respect him.

i agree. Lawrence Vickers' arm is not being utilized nearly enough.

Then you become predictable. I want an offense where the DC on the other side will have no idea what's coming. Also, that play with Vickers running it doesn't work on anything except 3rd and 1 (maybe 4th and short). It's not like you can pound it on 3rd and short all the time and run that play on 1st and 10 or 2nd and 7.That's why we've not only seen Vickers throwing the ball on a toss sweep, but we've also seen Vickers on a regular sweep/stretch play(s), all on 3rd/4th and short. Problem is, none of those plays have generated a 1st down iirc. The solution...maybe do it with different personel?How many times this year have we seen playaction pass (maybe with a boot mixed in) on 3rd and 1 or 2 yards? I can't recall any, I'm sure there's been a few, although I could be way off. I'm hoping that Cribbs gets worked into a Randle El type mode, but they show no signs of it. First Vickers need to be succesfull poundng the ball and then you can think of running the trick play to keep defenses honest. So far he has 2 attempts for 0 yards.

About getting Cribbs more involved in the offense. He seems to have that special talent to make plays. He is awesome on special teams.

The problem is that we knew going into this season that the additions to the OL were guys that were better at run blocking than pass blocking. Yet we run this wide-open offense. We get 3rd and short and do slow-developing tosses or halfback option passes instead of just pouding it for a first down. We should be a running team with this OL. I suspected by the way the preseason was going towards the end that the plan to be run-oriented was going out the window, which disturbed me quite a bit.

i heard that quote about Winslow on the radio and it got me to thinking:

has he been on a limited snap count this season? it would explain why he hasn't been in the games during certain times it seems like he should have been in them.

maybe if he's doing better, he will be in for more offensive snaps the rest of the season. i personally think he should be in the game every single offensive snap of the game. (well, maybe not punts.)

I totally agree, he may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but he is a beast on the field.It's a good sign Winslow is practicing again, hopefully he will be on the field the entire game for a change.One thing I noticed is that the Browns run every time when Winslow is not on the field other than obvious passing downs (you'd think he would be in on these also ) 1st down, 2nd down, 3rd and less than 3. There are a couple of things that people seem to be missing here, and I am assuming they have been watching the games.1) Winslow does not block for crap, and sometimes Charlie pays dearly for that.2) Winslow still does not know all of the right routes to run.So you guys can slam MoRon all you want and he deserves it, but saying Winslow should be on the field at all times is wrong. I don't think a single homer cares about Travis Wilson. The homers don't want a sleeper WR. They want a sleeper offensive lineman. Who really cares if we keep drafting WRs on day 1 if the QB gets killed every year because the OL can't pass block?

There are a couple of things that people seem to be missing here, and I am assuming they have been watching the games.1) Winslow does not block for crap, and sometimes Charlie pays dearly for that.2) Winslow still does not know all of the right routes to run.So you guys can slam MoRon all you want and he deserves it, but saying Winslow should be on the field at all times is wrong. For the two reasons above, plus the fact that he has a bum knee. You would think siince he had the whole last season to study his playbook he would know it inside out, but I doubt he looked at it much myself. The kid can be all he wants to be, but I sure hope it is not the next TO!!

ok, maybe "every single snap" is an overstatement.but the kid makes plays, and seems to rarely drop a pass.also, like schaef2k said, if he's only ever in on certain packages, the defense has to know what is coming.i just can't see how anyone could argue against more playing time for KW2.

All valid answers so far.I personally think he's got a great chance to be starting opposite Edwards by the middle of next year, assuming he sees some playing time this year.

Northcutt is gone, Jurivicious is a good WR but not really impact, and Cribbs has alot to learn to even be the #3 and he'll never be a starter. If Wilson was healthy coming out of college, I've read he would have gone even earlier than the 3rd.

And let's just ASSUME we don't draft another day 1 WR next year.
