2012 Packers Offseason (2 Viewers)

So what are we going to do tonight fellas?I predict TT either trades up or down, I'm leaning up.
I'm hoping for a trade up. 12 picks, or something like that. Will be hard to make room for them all anyway. Might as well bundle some picks and move up.
I think they have too many holes to fill on defense to trade up. I think if 3-4 of the players they want are available at their pick they trade down.
With 12 picks though...you are not going to fill all those holes with late 4th or later picks.I think having the 2 comp picks in the 4th makes trading up more probable than it had been. That said...not sure who they would really trade up for? Mercilus? Or to get McClellin (if reports of how much the Pats like him are to be believed)?I think guys that people would really like would be out of reach as far as trading up.But if they could trade down and still get Branch...Id be very happy with that.

If they do trade down though I think it won't be by much. Probably no later than an early round 2 pick. That way one of their players will still be available. I think trading up will cost too much for TT's liking and I'm not sure who they would trade up for either.ETA: Maybe S Barron if he slips down the draft board. Probably have to move ahead of SD though.ETA: Or not . . .

Barron was one of the guys I thought would just be too far out of reach.

Everything Im reading is they are not going to make him a DE...but let him rush at OLB.

4.58 speed...I don't think you put him at DE in a 3-4.

In his conference call with reporters he said the first thing that comes to mind when hearing about the Packers is "Super Bowls" Gotta love that kind of attitude.

Other quotes from him via Jason Wilde

"To be a part of this tradition, I'm ready to take it to the next level."

"I played with Clay my freshman year and since then we've been boys. I'll be glad to be across from him."

Perry on moving from DE to OLB: "I can't control it. This is something I love doing -- I'm here to do whatever it takes."

Perry on being 271 pounds: "I don't think that's really an issue."

Edit - Thompson and Capers both liked his speed and explosiveness. They said he'll need coaching in the open space but all new players do

My Packers buddy told me predraft that he heard they wanted Nick Perry and for him to gain 15 pounds and play 5 tech.I think OLB makes more sense though.
I see OLB...but as much as they play nickel...he will have plenty of time at DE.Probably something like Perry, Neal (when not suspended or hurt), Raji, Matthews on the line with Hawk and Bishop behind them...So much last year GB only had 2 DL in the game anyway. Maybe due to not having the DL they wanted healthy...but at the same time, they maximize the time Woodson was on the field in that slot role. What would be interesting is if they transition him to safety (the talk had all been they wouldn't...but with Collins done, I would not mind seeing it). When they want to bring in that nickel package with Woodson in down low...Bush has played that role ok in the past. I don't like Bush as a cover guy...but in that roving near the line role he has done well (what he was playing when he got the INT in the Super Bowl I believe).

Yes he was impressive. They'll be able to move Clay and him around and it should be interesting.

Citing a source, Bill Huber of Packer Report reports that the Packers and Browns have discussed a trade that would send quarterback Colt McCoy to Green Bay.McCoy is being shopped after the Browns used the 22nd overall pick in last night’s draft on Brandon Weeden. Weeden is tentatively projected as the Browns’ new Week One starter. His backup would be Seneca Wallace. As Huber notes, the Packers have one sixth-round pick and three seventh-round picks to dangle in trade talks. They would be targeting McCoy as a backup upgrade on Graham Harrell and former Arena League southpaw Nick Hill
I'm guessing they could get Colt for a rock bottom price and love the move if it were to go down.

I also heard this morning there is a rumor going around that the Pack would send a 3rd to the Rams for Steven Jackson

That is way too much for SJax. He has a ton of mileage on him and in recent years veteran RB just don't carry any value. I would maybe be interested for a 7th but otherwise I say bring back Grant to team with Starks, wait for Green to get healthy and draft a rookie at some point in the draft.

Why would they do that? Makes little sense to me. Why not just take a RB in the 3rd round over a guy who is on the downside of his career? The Colt McCoy trade would make a ton of sense. Especially if he's had for a 6th or 7th.

No more than a 6th for Colt and I like it.

Let him work with Clements...McCarthy apparently really liked him after his workouts coming out of Texas.

It would be a great move IMO. Fills a need and allows focus on the rest of the draft elsewhere. As well as, Colt has NFL starts under his belt. I know it didn't happen last year, but Rodgers had concussion issues...wouldn't be a bad idea to get a backup with some experience.

I do think they like Harrell behind him though...but at such a cheap price would be stupid not to kick the tires on Colt and see what happens.

I like McCoy and it would be great if the Pack could pick him up for cheap. The only thing I worry about is the concussion. I have heard he still hasn't recovered from that harrison hit.

Hell yeah! That's what I'm talking about. Combine some picks and make a move to get a potential dominate player. Worthy will be everything we were hoping Neal could be. Love the pick, love it!

GBTT!

Worthy was 26th on Mayock's lists. I don't know much about him but that seems like two potential defensive rock stars. Good stuff! I can't find it, but what did they give up to move up?

I think just their 2nd & 4th, but they have two 4th comp picks so it's no big deal.

I'm liking this draft too. Quality over quantity. Mostly excited that the staff seem to be on the same page and willing to move up and take some chances.

I love it so far. The defense needed help at all levels and the Packers have been aggressive at going up to get guys to fill those holes. Nice to see them getting good players at positions of need. Some offensive line depth and a developmental QB would be nice but other than that, the offense is in great shape and the defense has to be better with these additions. Just a shame that Nick Collins won't be back or I would be extremely excited. That's a big hole to fill.

Ted getting a bit more aggressive this year.

Using free agency a bit...then moving up in the draft.

Love love love the Worthy pick. Was a guy talked about as a possibility for them at 28...to get him in the 2nd and only give up a 4th to do so is great.

Then to move up pretty cheap to get Hayward is a nice move.

Wondering if Hayward looks good early in camp if Woodson will be making the switch to safety???

The D should be improved with some of what TT has done this offseason.

What are the packers gonna do with worthy, raji, and Hargrove all at DT this year?
Rotation...one part of the problem last year IMO was that Raji played way too many snaps. Pickett is not getting any younger either. So keep guys fresh as much as possible. But I suspect you will see a lot of Raji, Worthy, Hargrove as the 3 DL (when they even go to a 3 DL rotation...so many times they are in 2 DL, 4 LBs, and 5 DBs to keep Woodson on the field)

So true. I want to say I saw a stat where it claimed Raji took more snaps on defense than any other Packer player.

Raji took 937 snaps. 7th most on the team. Most on the line though. Pickett 507. Wynn 478. Wilson 416. Significantly more. Worthy will help.Great draft so far. Thoughts on Perry over Upshaw?

I like Perry's speed and versatility. Dom can move him all over the field and if Clay and Greene can get him to play to potential he could be great.

Took another DT. They have had problems with healthy d linemen lately.

Then took McMillian a strong safety.
