I kinda like this team. I feel I got 2 stud QB's at very reasonable prices, 2 stud WR's and 2 stud TE's and then hopefully some sleeper RB's

Code:

Hey Iggy, the live scoring worked great last night throughout the game as far as I could tell. Curious though, the cutoff score is currently showing zero right now... are you planning to run a process periodically on Sunday's to update that score?

Yes, in fact it was actually running last night. The cutoff really is 0 right now, because we're only cutting ~800 teams this week and there were more than 800 teams that didn't have any players going in last night's game.

The cutoff should update in real time while games are going on so you'll always have an idea of where you stand.

I typically haven't used the live scoring in the past and not sure I will this year either, but it sounds like you've been a lot of time and effort into it. Regardless if I end up using it, wanted to say thanks.

Great! I didn't consider that the cutoff could actually be zero at this point.

Pretty awesome work dude. Glad you took this over because it's already better than what I was offering! :hifive:

QB - Brees - 26

QB - Roeth - 10

QB - Bridgewater - 6

RB - Peterson - 30

RB - Bush - 23

RB - Ingram - 9

RB - Stewart - 5

RB - Riddick - 3

RB - McKinnon - 3

WR - Calvin - 31

WR - Sanders - 18

WR - Edelman - 17

WR - Benjamin - 5

WR - Malcom Floyd - 4

WR - John Brown - 3

TE - Reed - 18

TE - Eifert - 12

PK - Vinaitieri - 3

Def - Cleveland - 4

Def - Carolina - 4

Def - New Orleans - 4

The theme for me this year was "variety of options". My goal was to get three players for every starting position (so 3 QBs, 6 RBs, 6 WRs, 3 TEs, 3 PKs, 3 Defs). I wanted to have a stud and a second-tier option at every position, with the rest of the roster filled in with the cheapest bargains I could get. I altered the plan slightly with Welker's suspension, since I figured Sanders would become one of the most-owned players, and uniformity is more important to winning the subscriber contest than uniqueness. I downgraded a pair of my low-rent RBs to handcuffs and freed up enough cap space to grab another 2nd-tier WR.

No more than 1/3rd of any individual positional group would be on bye at any given time (guaranteeing there would always be multiple players competing to put up a high score and protecting against injuries- again, variety of options), and my stud was not allowed to have the same bye as my second-tier option at that position. I really tried to work it so that none of my studs shared the same bye, but that week 10 monster was just too tough to work around, and in the end both Peterson and Jordan Reed will be off that week. It's a big week with 6 teams off, so hopefully that gives me enough cover to get through. Looking at it, maybe I could have swapped Vinatieri out for another $3 kicker with a different bye just to give me a tiny bit extra boost through my rough week.

That's the theory, at least. The best laid plans of mice and men and all that jazz.

Edit: Also, looking at it, I could have downgraded from Bridgewater to Bortles and upgraded from Rodgers to Kelce. Or perhaps found $3 more elsewhere. I love Jordan Reed this year (think he's on par with Cameron/Julius at a hefty discount), and deliberately opted for Eifert over the sure-to-be-more-popular Ertz, but Rodgers was just the cheapest guy I could find and I really should have upgraded that TE3 with the two flexes. Oh well, lineups have to lock sometime or else I'd just end up fiddling with it in perpetuity.

Edit #2: Hella-unique at TE. Reed is 22nd most-owned player at the position. Eifert is 27th. I'm one of just 15 teams with both.

There's something odd about Dodds submitting an entry to his own contest. Historically, I wonder how good he is at identifying which players he mispriced. :)

Andy Dalton $13
Ben Roethlisberger $10
Jake Locker $7
Blake Bortles $3

Dalton and Ben seemed like good value and potential for some big games, and Locker/Bortles are guys who may help out later, especially Ben's late bye, should I survive that long.

------------------------------
Eddie Lacy $28
Alfred Morris $20
DeAngelo Williams $10
Ahmad Bradshaw $9
Mark Ingram $9
Andre Williams $7

Two "top" guys and some RBBC/backup guys who could provide some good weeks, especially if they beat out "starters" like TRich and Jennings.

------------------------------
Antonio Brown $22
Cordarrelle Patterson $18
Anquan Boldin $9
Justin Hunter $9
Cody Latimer $6
Kelvin Benjamin $5
John Brown $3
Marlon Brown $3
Mohamed Sanu $3
Cole Beasley $2

Lots of my guys were popular picks - I think I have 5 of the top 10 owned WRs. Didn't go with any of the very top studs, so I'm hoping they have their "big" weeks well-distributed.

------------------------------
Jordan Cameron $22
Travis Kelce $8
Brandon Myers $3
Mychal Rivera $3

Stud, hype train, and 2 cheap fill-in guys

------------------------------
Greg Zuerlein $3
Nate Freese $3
Blair Walsh $3

WTF-ever, they're kickers
------------------------------
Tennessee Titans $3
Miami Dolphins $3
Indianapolis Colts $3

WTF-ever, they're defenses.

Edit - I also used early bye week as a "tiebreaker" in a few situations, notably Dalton and Cameron. For others, I'm hoping that by the time Lacy/Morris/Brown/Patterson hit their bye weeks, I'll have gotten lucky on the cheap guys.

I've hardly made time for this contest the past two years, but my schedule freed up after the deadline this year. Excellent contest, ridiculously fun. Thanks FBGs. Some thoughts, rooster first, general observations second.

My rooster:

Russell Wilson/4 $15

Jay Cutler/9 $12

I've always been a large rooster guy, usually in the 23-25 range. I felt going in this year that people (especially those following these threads) would skew heavier to small rosters. I ended up going bigger than ever. Mid-value QBs just seemed ridiculously cheap this year, as many have mentioned. I obviously like these two, almost added a third. I've long preferred the earlier bye weeks. Thoughts on that later.

DeMarco Murray/11 $27

Ryan Mathews/10 $20

Ray Rice/11 $18

LeGarrette Blount/12 $6

Shonn Greene/9 $6

Isaiah Crowell/4 $4

Benny Cunningham/4 $3

In past years, I'll usually make it to the final 500 or 1000, but never the money 250. RB has always been my downfall as I've taken too few, too cheaply. Thus, this make up. In retrospect (and 5000 iterations later...) the late bye weeks are obviously not ideal, and I likely overspent on the <$10 backups which would have been better allocated to a better WR.

Emmanuel Sanders/4 $18

Greg Jennings/10 $9

Justin Hunter/9 $9

Kenny Britt/4 $8

Steve Smith/11 $7

Cody Latimer/4 $6

Kelvin Benjamin/12 $5

John Brown/4 $3

Likely way too cheap here. But oh, the value these guys represent. Steal $10 of RBs, some D and K, and get a second mid-tier WR would be ideal. Obviously lots of week 4 byes, but without stressing too much this year about it, I did manage to keep RB byes (11), WR byes (4), TE byes (6) separated and thus available for another position to fill a flex spot lacking from one of these other slots.

Jimmy Graham/6 $30

Heath Miller/12 $10

Travis Kelce/6 $8

Think it was really hard not to take Graham this year. I've always gone low priced here before, so nice to have a stud. Miller great value, and as KC homer, Kelce has to show up this year.

Greg Zuerlein/4 $3

Nate Freese/9 $3

Shayne Graham/6 $3

Blair Walsh/10 $3

I haven't done the statistical analysis here, but I think there's more to K and DEF than the typical "blah blah blah, they're K and DEF" comments posted. Granted, it's probably a crapshoot on the individual choices, but I do think the numbers matter. See below for more thoughts.

Houston Texans/10 $4

New Orleans Saints/6 $4

Detroit Lions/9 $3

New York Jets/11 $3

Various DEF I felt good about. Honestly only meant to have 3, but forgot at deadline. Obviously a lot of money locked up here on K and DEF. As above, I'd rather take $10 from RB, and $3-7 from K/DEF to buy another WR. But we'll see. I think there's an interesting thought here on score diversification - it's pretty clear that avg score and survival rate goes up as you go from 2 to 3 K or DEF. That analysis has been great, but are we overly hurting ourselves when byes come and we move from 3 to 2 K or D? With three K or D, we're building in 3 weeks where we suffer from only 2 contributors. In those weeks (say week 9 when K Freese on bye) is the incremental value of having a third live kicker worth the $3 you could have spent on another end-of-roster WR/RB? I have a hunch that outside of $3 Bortles going off, the odds are probably better for the $3 K to contribute to your survival. Still, just a thought, no proof.

----------------------------------------------------------

So I started playing with Iggy's tool. That came out wrong... But thanks Iggy, you're awesome. :tebow: Will donate when you give the go-ahead.

QB - 2 - $27

RB - 7 - $84

WR - 8 - $65

TE - 3 - $48

K - 4 - $12

DEF - 4 - $14

All in all, not a great team. But some interesting observations. First, I'm focused more on survival at this point, not having made the final 250 before. So yes, the stats below have little to do with a team's ability to win outright. I mostly just wanted to see how badly I screwed myself with the low WR allocation

* Thought 1: teams posted here seem to typically land in the $70-$80 range for RB and WR budgets. Over $80 and you "overweighted" the category, under $70 and you're probably "weak." So, does balancing the two positions matter?

RB:

Survival by RB Budget, any size team, $40-$70 (putting $40 as a floor on "reasonable" entry; arbitrary)

  • 2011: 3.47% survived to final 250
  • 2012: 2.21% survived
  • 2013: 1.47% survived
$70-80 budget ("average" allocation)

  • 2011: 2.61% survived
  • 2012: 2.42% survived
  • 2013: 1.67% survived
$80-$110 budget:

  • 2011: 2.06% survived
  • 2012: 1.53% survived
  • 2013: 1.86% survived
I was honestly shocked that overweighting RB seems to hurt your chances of survival. This could honestly be an artifact of smaller rosters (disproportionately large share) spending >$80 on average, but that's conjecture. I think 2013 represents a significant effort by FBG to make pricing of RBs harder, but it may indicate that massive studs or depth at RB simply isn't a great advantage as far as budget allocation goes.

WR:

Same idea as above.

$40-$70 budget

  • 2011: 2.42% survived
  • 2012: 0.75% survived
  • 2013: 1.66% survived
$70-$80 budget

  • 2011: 2.36% survived
  • 2012: 1.81% survived
  • 2013: 1.86% survived
$80-$110 budget

  • 2011: 2.37% survived
  • 2012: 2.25% survived
  • 2013: 1.74% survived
While clearly not conclusive (of perhaps anything), it does seem that it pays slightly better to overweight WR than RB as far as survival rates go. This honestly likely plays in to how that money is allocated across other positions, but by this point I got lazy.

* Thought 2: the ever present 2 vs 3 QB, 2 vs 3 (vs 4) K and DEF

Just thought I'd paste this here:

2011Qb_ct Count Alive Survival Rate1 223 4 1.8%2 6517 167 2.6%3 3440 70 2.0%2012Qb_ct Count Alive Survival Rate1 270 1 0.4%2 7459 131 1.8%3 4451 106 2.4%2013Qb_ct Count Alive Survival Rate1 282 3 1.1%2 7060 134 1.9%3 5695 99 1.7% In 2013 we saw harder pricing from FBG, and the survival rates for 4-DEF and 4-PK teams fell off a cliff compared to 2011-2012. Not so with 3-QB teams. Just something I thought was interesting. Obviously didn't affect my rooster.

Good luck all.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if any staff members have ever reached the top 250? Or am I going to be the first this year?

I may have, but to be honest I can't remember. IIRC, I won the staff contest a couple of times. But I can't remember yesterday, so . . .

So what would happen if enough teams scored zero and by necessity some would move forward? How are precise ties broken?

Now, do I have the right mid-tier guys? Maybe not. I view both Wilson and RIvers as steady, high floor guys this year. Unlikely to win me a week but also unlikely to lose me a week. Never really considered a 3rd QB,

RB: I like some of the non-stud RB strategies I've seen but I decided to get two studs. On paper. That are injury prone. One of which is already hurt after the first game of the season. That's how you put a rooster together guys!

Like Woodhead this season on dumpoffs and Stewart and Turbin seemed like good values.

WR: My WR core comes courtesy of a competing fantasy site. They had an article about using high variance players in Best Ball leagues, which isn't a new concept, per se. But they listed a group of high variance WRs and Jeffrey, Jackson, Decker and Cooper were in the top 8 or so.

Therefore, they became my WR core. Added Hawkins because I have an unhealthy obsession with him and Benjamin/Brown as the two "value" "hyped" rookie WRs.

TE: Thought about Graham and Gronk but decided to go with Thomas and his early Bye and get some of the Bronco passing game. Like Kelce and he seems like a good value for a high upside guy. Went with Wright because I liked him a lot last year and I figure Belichick got him for a reason.

PK: 3 $3 guys trying to spread the Bye weeks.

DEF: 3 $3 defenses trying to spread the Bye weeks.

Overall: Eh, I never like my teams in this contest although I usually make it to week 9-11 and then #### the bed. Maybe this year is different. Have 5 guys off week 4, but only 2 "starters". Also have 2 "starters" off weeks 9 and 11. That's probably pretty dumb. But I always spend too much time trying to balance my Bye weeks among the top 4 positions so maybe this approach will help. Seems counterintuitive, but let me dream please.

Ownership-wise, I like the fact that I have a number of popular value players in Lacy, Stewart, Benjamin, Brown and all three TEs. But I also have some players with lower ownership percentages (READ: because they suck and everyone else knows better) in Murray, Jackson, Decker and Hawkins.

How will I do? Who knows. Love the chase though. Thanks to FBG for the contest.

Russell Wilson $15 0.00 bye
Philip Rivers $12 0.00 bye

I really think Russell Wilson looks great this year, and combined with Rivers I think they are durable enough to not have to carry a third. Wanted Bortles and had him in and out of the lineup many times.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jamaal Charles $36 0.00 bye
Adrian Peterson $30 0.00 bye
Ray Rice $18 0.00 bye
Benny Cunningham $3 0.00 bye

I had Charles and McCoy in here but must have changed it up after I left the bar Wednesday night. Hoping for a nice Ray Rice resurgence. I didn't see ownership numbers for Charles in the earlier link, or maybe he was low?

Dez Bryant $27 0.00 bye
Justin Hunter $9 0.00 bye

Seriously? He has two players playing in week 4. The rest are on bye..

Did he do it as a joke or did he think it would be a free pass still?

Is there a link to see total points scored from each player last year for this contest? I know we can see some of the entries and hope they have certain players on it, but would like to be able to rank everyone by points last year.

I had Russell Wilson last year and IIRC, he did not score that many points. I forgot who my 2nd QB was, but I know it was not a great QB year for me.

Ignoratio Elenchi... I already donated... The live scoring tool is great. You did an excellent job. Thanks

Always a fun contest. Never made it to the money round but twice eliminated @ the 500 cuts , last season was cut in week 12.

Nick Foles
Ben Roethlisberger
Blake Bortles

Originally had a Foles/Wilson combo but wasn't crazy about their match ups during the bye weeks. Bortles looks like he should be starting soon
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Pierre Thomas
Frank Gore
Carlos Hyde
Mark Ingram
Jonathan Stewart
Dri Archer
DeAnthony Thomas

I always toyed with the idea of teaming RBs from 3 teams to lockup backfields .While I didn't do it completely I did it somewhat with Pierre/Ingram & Gore/Hyde combos. In hindsight I don't think I have enough oomf at RB. There is a lot riding on Ingram & Stewart , they've looked great in preseason , not sure they will answer the bell for the regular season. Archer & Thomas are pure experimental vanity picks on my part. I'm intrigued by the chance of ST TDs sprinkled in. I have a crazy hunch one of the 2 will end up with 40 receptions
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dez Bryant
Cordarrelle Patterson
Emmanuel Sanders
Julian Edelman
Kelvin Benjamin
Markus Wheaton
Brian Quick
John Brown

Love this group .Deep but Patterson makes or breaks this position.Might have been better served moving Edelmans cash to RB. Wheaton is the guy I have the least faith in
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Zach Ertz
Ladarius Green
Antonio Gates
Travis Kelce

Trying to make some hay by spreading my chips out here. Green + Gates combo seems tailor made for best ball. Kelce is the low priced IT guy at TE this year
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Nate Freese
Graham Gano
Blair Walsh

Wanted 3 Ks for the scoring variance and alleviate the chance of injury to the dangerous PK position
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Pittsburgh Steelers

1st time going with only 2 Defense

Had Lacy, which sucks.

Have Starks too. The dumbest most I thought I had made turns out to be a good one?

Dumb luck helps on these contests...

Colin Kaepernick Ben Roethlisberger Thought there were lots of combinations of 2 QBs I liked for $24.Liked the Brady/Locker combination as well but with NE late bye and Locker'sinjury history went with a safer route. Also like Kaps rushingpossibilities and week 8 bye works with the rest of my team.Roethlisberger may not be spectacular but I liked his steadiness Adrian Peterson Doug Martin Jeremy Hill Mark Ingram Jonathan Stewart Wanted a couple of studs and then some with high upside.Of the top 4 RBs felt like Peterson gave the best value.Had Ellington as my no. 2 for the longest time up until the lastversion. Also toyed with Ball as my no. 2 but saved a few dollarswith Martin. Hill has the chance to put up a decent score on bye weeks.Hoping Ingram's strong finish to last season and preseason can continue.Had Cunningham instead of Stewart, wish I would have stuck with it. Antonio Brown Roddy White Emmanuel Sanders Julian Edelman Steve Smith Denarius Moore Kelvin Benjamin Like Brown's consistency and value. Had J. Jones here instead of Whitebut felt I get much better value with White and with the savingsadded D. Moore. Between Sanders and Edelman I should get a decent scoreeach week. Hoping Steve Smith can stay healthy and he should be a decent PPRWR. Went with the flow with Bemjamin. Felt Moore could put up a few good weeksin best ball and liked his preseason chemistry with Carr. Also felt he wouldbe a less popular pick which could set me apart. Julius Thomas Heath Miller Jace Amaro Wanted to get at least a stud here. Really liked J. Graham but the money saved by taking Thomas allowed me to do a lot more atother positions. Miller should be very steady and best case scenariohe gets back to his pre-injury numbers. Liked Amaro's price hereand hoping he can put up a TD or 2 during bye weeks. Nate Freese Blair Walsh New Orleans Saints Miami Dolphins Overall, wanted to get studs at each possible flex position of RB/WR/TE. May not have gotten the

very top guy but at least a top 5 guy with potential upside from there. Really happy with the way the team

turned out.

Best of luck to all.

Did anyone ever go back and figure out the "perfect" team? i.e. find the maximum score possible for the finals, and use players that would have made it through each week?

Right now, I have a 2013 team that makes the cut each week, and scores 566.85 points in the finals (winner had 477.2).

It can still be tweaked, because I did not do a very good job looking for flex positions in the finals.

Manning - $23

Smith - $10

Charles - $31

Murray - $21

Lacy - $16

Moreno - $7

Bell - $6

Brown - $21

Garcon - $20

Decker - $18

Jackson - $16

Washington - $4

Douglas - $3

Gonzalez - $21

Walker - $6

Thomas - $2

Prater - $5

Tucker - $4

KC - $4

Phil - $3

Total: $241

And now I know how to kill the rest of my afternoon...

Added Edelman for $6 and bumped total to 576.05

ETA - swap Patriots in for Eagles = 583.05, $249

Novak for Prater = 584.55, $247

Here's something fun that maybe Iggy can figure out.

I know that in the past the Turk had put out some statistics on uniqueness of teams and projected making of cuts, etc.

A simple calculation I made to try to figure out how unique my team was to figure out the weighted ownership percentage, weighing it by the cost of each player.

E.G. If a player is $30 and 18% owned him, $30*.18 = $5.40, another player is $10 and 10% owned would be $10*.1 = $1, etc. Adding up the cost of all of these players and then dividing by $250 to arrive at a weighted uniqueness percentage. I think my team ended up at about 11.8% with this method.

-QG

how many people got cut week 1 last year?

I went with Ray Rice, having buyers remorse but the Kubiak offense was too alluring.
Pretty sure 0 got cut week 1 last year.

This year I think it was mentioned that about 800 get cut.

First few weeks will likely be just cutting the fat.

I didn't spend much time on my entry this year and it shows. Such is life. Since I have posted my teams when I thought they were good, I'll post my team with all of its brutal flaws as a cautionary tale.

At QB, I exchewed a "stud" for 3 guys whom I thought presented real value. Too many QBs miss a week or 2 nowadays to put all of my eggs in 1 basket. My problem? Two of them are on bye week 11. That's a ton of pressure on Rapelsburger to deliver. At least it's against the Titans.

Romo ($14) -- 11

Flacco ($8) -- 11

Ben (10) -- 12

Philosophically at RB a couple of years ago I went with 2 sets of quality starter/back-up RBs. ItI didn't do that last year and I think it was a mistake. This year I combined Bush and Bell (I think at least one of them is almost assured of posting a useable number every week, and both will have useable numbers in some weeks) as one tandem and Murray and Dunbar (I believe the Cowboys will be committed to the run and that OL is great, Romo will dump off to the RBs with some regularity I think) as another tandem. I'm not convinced the general concept isn't correct, but having those specific combos gives me a ton of late-season byes at the RB position. That in and of itself isn't the end of the world, but my other byes tend to run late as well. Seeing my team charted, I'm really in trouble weeks 9 and 11. I filled out with Shonn Greene (call me crazy, but I think the Sankey excitement is overblown; I think the Titans give Shonn the ball a lot more than people think, and I think he gets the vast majority of the goal line carries; $6 is legit value even if he's less than explosive or exciting) and Ingram (he isn't great and he will likely be wildly erratic in scoring week-to-week, but I think he should be the goal-line guy and at $9 seemed a legit feast-or-famine kind of guy). Regardless of whether I'm right on these guys or not, my construction at this position was inherently flawed from the get-go. I almost certainly allocated too many resources to this position, to the detriment of WR primarily, but I limped along with bad RB choices 2 of the last 3 years and it was no fun.

Murray ($27) -- 11

Dunbar ($10) -- 11

Bush ($23) -- 9

Bell ($21) -- 9

Ingram ($9) -- 6

Green ($6) -- 9

I really struggled at WR after spending like I did at RB. Fundamentally, if I'm having to rely on more than 2 of these guys to perform in very many weeks I'm doomed. I started with guys I felt represented big upside and were priced accordingly. Everyone and his brother was going to roster Benjamin, and I'm not completely sold on him. So rather than joining the groupthink on a player I don't particularly like on an offense I think we be significantly worse than anyone is predicting, I zigged instead of zagging with everyone else. I really like Hunter in this format -- some weeks he will do absolutely nothing, but I think he's going to be a big-play guy who catches his share of TD balls. I also like Washington to be the primary target of Locker. I don't think Locker is a bad QB if he can stay healthy (massive "if" obviously), and he's historically targeted Washington with some regularity. I also paired Nicks and Hilton. My thinking is that Indy will live and die with Luck throwing the ball 35-40 times a game. I can't imagine those guys don't get their share of targets. Nicks is still a legit WR2 in an explosive passing attack if he can stay healthy (another big "if"). Sanders is the most reasonably-priced piece of what should be an incredible Denver offense. LaFell seemed like a good gamble at that price point -- Brady will throw the ball to whomever is open. Alas, byes are again going to be a problem for me at this position too.

Sanders ($18) -- 3

Hilton ($18) -- 10

Nicks ($9) -- 10

Washington ($4) -- 9

Hunter ($9) -- 9

LaFell ($3) -- 10

At TE I wanted 3 players no matter what. It seemed that there were more value plays here than anywhere else, given the 1.5 ppc and how the position is evolving everywhere now. I really like Miller -- Ben was targeting him a ton before he got hurt and that's been true for years. Ertz seems like another great fit for this format. He'll have some turds, but I think he'll have more than a few big games. I believe the Eagles aren't blowing smoke when they say he's going to be part of the offense this year. Witten isn't what he once was, but Romo leans on him and the guy will have multiple games with 8+ receptions, which is about all you can hope for in this format. Witten won't be Graham or a healthy Gronk, but he was also half the price.

Witten ($18) -- 11

Ertz ($13) -- 7

Miller ($10) -- 12

PK and Def: I'm a firm believer in 3 of each. PK is so volatile week-to-week and the difference between a 6 (short FG, 3 XP) and a 14 (long FG, 2 short FG, 3 XP) can be massive. I wanted at least 2 PK with early byes so I grabbed 2 with byes in week 4, which is otherwise a pretty clean week for me (unlike many others). Otherwise, I just looked for guys I thought would get opportunities with the ability to kick at least a 45 yarder with some confidence.

Bryant ($4) -- 12

Cundiff ($3) -- 4

Nugent ($3) -- 4

Defensive scoring in this format is so unpredictable. Returns and TOs are what matter. Good luck predicting that year-to-year. I wanted no double-byes and at least 1 early bye. AFC East teams have decent match-ups as a rule to my eye. I think the Vikings are sneaky good this year for some reason.

Buffalo ($4) -- 9

Dolphins ($3) -- 5

Vikings ($3) -- 10

Add it all up and I like my approach, but my execution was terrible. I spent a fortune on RB and I'm still a trainwreck there in week 9.

I go by the same strategy every year and it tends to get me to week 12-13 and once in the money, so why change a good thing right? Here's my typical approach:

  1. Identify 1 stud at each position for TE, RB, WR in that order.
  2. Ensure each stud has a separate bye week.
  3. Identify 1-2 mid-players at each position TE, RB, WR in that order and make sure no byes overlap.
  4. Go with 2 QBs that fit around the schedule.
  5. Select 3 K with opposite byes
  6. Select 3 D with byes that do not overlap the kickers.
  7. Fill in el cheapo guys that I like.
  8. Fill in mid-level players.
  9. Change it a gazillion times
  10. NEW RULE this year: Validate how many K and D are selected once you modify the rooster many times.
All that being said, here's how it ended up this year.

QB: Wilson / Tannehill / Bortles ($28 total)

Couldn't pass up the value on a $3 Bortles. As much as I welcome the 2 QB tandem, I thought the value in having Bortles for as good as he looked in the preseason was worth having. For Wilson, I am curious to see what SEA would look like with a healthy Percy Harvin and to be honest, pretty happy with the result. Tannehill is more of a pick because I am a big fan of Lazor. Both QBs offer rushing TDs and early byes. 3 QBs for less than Manning with upside on rushing yds and rushing scores.

RB: McCoy / Rice / MJD / Ingram / Stewart / J. White ($85 total)

Like McCoy this year and I thought Rice offered decent value at $18 even missing 2 games. In addition, I aways try and identify stud RBs that have receptions. I like the value MJD offered and I think he still has something to offer in the tank and I was liking what I saw from Ingram at end of last season, so for $9 felt he was worth a swing. Stewart, what the heck, maybe he'll do something. White, well if Ridley fumbles, could become the goalline back. Really don't plan on much flex value here, just want two to show up each week.

WR: White / Colston / Jennings / Matthews / Smith / Benjamin / Sanu ($68 total)

Looking back on this, I think I screwed something up in my last tweak as I usually have around $80 in the WR spot. All in all, I like taking shots on guys that have upside. I think White/Colston will be the consistent starters, but Jennings looked good with Cassel, Matthews offers upside, Baltimore beat writers are saying Steve Smith has played incredible in camp and has become the heart of the offense, Benjamin gives upside and Sanu with Jones out the first few weeks should be a worthwhile fill in. All in all, I would probably tweak this area again.

TE: Cameron / Rudolph / Wright / Celek ($45 total)

Went with 4 and looking to get a flex play or two from this group every week. Cameron has the ability to beat out Graham for the most receptions by a tight end and Rudolph with Norv Turner is just money. Took a swing on Wright as the next Hernandez and Celek never seems to go away.

PK: Scobee / Zuerlein / Freese / Walsh ($12 total)

No idea. Typically I go with 3 dome kickers or something along those lines. I'm pretty sure I was tweaking something and hit save at the wrong iteration.

DEF: KC / CAR / MIA

This is where I knew something went horribly wrong. Typically I take 3 DEFs for a total cost of $9. Here I have $12. Must have been drinking on this last iteration. :wall:

So anyway, we'll see how this works out this year. Needless to say, I still think the team has potential and if the mid-range WRs pan out, could be interesting.

Bring on the Turk! :boxing:

Hey Iggy, the live scoring worked great last night throughout the game as far as I could tell. Curious though, the cutoff score is currently showing zero right now... are you planning to run a process periodically on Sunday's to update that score?
Yes, in fact it was actually running last night. The cutoff really is 0 right now, because we're only cutting ~800 teams this week and there were more than 800 teams that didn't have any players going in last night's game.

The cutoff should update in real time while games are going on so you'll always have an idea of where you stand.
Iggy, thanks a lot for this. Greatly appreciate it. Regarding Wilson, who I have in FFPC/FBG contests - he scored 20.45 points. (191 yards, 2 TDs and 29 rushing). This shows 24.45. Any reason fo rthe difference?

Good catch - for some reason I had 6 pts in for passing TDs instead of 4. It's been fixed and the scores have been updated, thanks!

How to contribute? I should do it now cuz will be done by tomorrow...

Anyone else look at their team and realize you screwed up?

I have two teams and somehow picked Greg Olsen on both teams and the TE Wright from Tampa Bay. I could have sworn and know that I selected the guy from NE.

I wanted the guy backing up Gronk as I think he will get injured again this year.

I did one team to fit Olsen in, but still missed up 2nd pick.

WTF??? I cannot believe I screwed up the tight end position on both entries.
