I dont think Montgomery is built the same. same as Cobb. both seem suited for the hybrid role some. and he has excelled out of the backfieldExactly
Yeah he looked very good, until he got hurt. The speed was so evident. But then he couldn't play the next week. So obviously not a long term solution.I dont think Montgomery is built the same. same as Cobb. both seem suited for the hybrid role some. and he has excelled out of the backfield
Which decisions were terrible ?No one blaming Thompson, I see. Seems to be that his true colors as a mediocre GM are coming through. Has made some terrible decisions and slowly the Packers have declined into "possibly playoffs."
Or it was a freak thing in a physical game.Yeah he looked very good, until he got hurt. The speed was so evident. But then he couldn't play the next week. So obviously not a long term solution.
Why bother? You are just going to argue the obvious ones anyway like picking Datone Jones over DeAndre Hopkins. You'll justify anything.Which decisions were terrible ?
Yeah considering they pick at the bottom of the draft every year I'm fine with his drafts overall. Some of his 1st rounders leave a little to be desired but he more than makes up with it for finding mid to late round gems.Which decisions were terrible ?
Couple years ago, no, he took the Packers into the season with 2 QB's. I believe Rodgers was injured that year. Great backup plan.Which decisions were terrible ?
Could be. What are the chances though huh? The guy has played what probably 75-100 football games in his life? But just happened to have a freak injury in the only one where he played RB against an NFL defense. Weird. Just bad luck I guess. Shucks.Or it was a freak thing in a physical game.
You can do this with every GM if we're going to dissect every draft pick. Why bother? You are just going to argue the obvious ones anyway like picking Datone Jones over DeAndre Hopkins. You'll justify anything.
Like who specifically over the past three season? Who are these gems?Yeah considering they pick at the bottom of the draft every year I'm fine with his drafts overall. Some of his 1st rounders leave a little to be desired but he more than makes up with it for finding mid to late round gems.
His reluctance to delve into free agency is beyond frustrating especially when up until this year they've been a piece or two away. Teams like Denver and NE do it so I wish he would too.
Yeah I know, but it must be a nice gig to have when you get credit for a future hall of famer falling in your lap like you are some mastermind. But then get a pass for whiffing on more fastballs than Rob Deer because the fans think you walk on water. In a league of "what have you done for me lately" Thompson hasn't done a lot since about 2010.You can do this with every GM is we're going to dissect every draft pick.
Ted doesn't need to do anything different so why would he? There is no expectation of improvement.Yeah considering they pick at the bottom of the draft every year I'm fine with his drafts overall. Some of his 1st rounders leave a little to be desired but he more than makes up with it for finding mid to late round gems.

David Bahktiari is a borderline pro bowler. Mike Daniels is an absolute beast. More recently Blake Martinez looks like a good one. Corey Linsley, JC Tretter are all solid. I think Ty Montgomery will be good too. Kind of unfair to expect mid round picks to be pro bowlers after a season or two.Like who specifically over the past three season? Who are these gems?
This isn't true. 90% of this team wasn't here in 2010 and this, when healthy, is a playoff roster. Probably not a Super Bowl roster but a playoff one none the less. I can't believe you pant's pissers have me defending Thompson. I'm ready for Wolf to take over but man you and Mario Kart have unrealistic expectations.Yeah I know, but it must be a nice gig to have when you get credit for a future hall of famer falling in your lap like you are some mastermind. I'm not asking for Super Bowl after Super Bowl. What I'm asking for is some common sense GM'ing. There's a reason why New England has been great the last 15 years and the answer is not Tom Brady. Thompson never was all that great nor will he be yet some don't even point a finger his way. His lack of common sense GM'ing is maddening and it doesn't work. This isn't true. 90% of this team wasn't here in 2010 and this, when healthy, is a playoff roster. Amd you love hindsight. Why bother? You are just going to argue the obvious ones anyway like picking Datone Jones over DeAndre Hopkins. You'll justify anything.
They go in with only 2 QBs almost every year...as does nearly every team in the league. I believe Rodgers has gotten hurt sure...and still made the playoffs. How would they have been a better team by taking depth elsewhere for a 3rd string QB?Couple years ago, no, he took the Packers into the season with 2 QB's. I believe Rodgers was injured that year. Great backup plan.
This year he took the Packers into the season with 2 RB's. Great plan that is turning out to be. Defense is riddled with injuries yet there is little depth. His drafts, lately, have not panned out. First trade since 2010 was Davis and now he's gone.
Thompson was always an average GM and it is now showing up. An even bolder statement... Favre made those teams what they were... not Thompson.
What are the chances someone gets hurt playing football? Pretty good actually. Its a physical game...guys get hurt. He played RB the week before some too and caught a bunch of balls out of the backfield.Could be. What are the chances though huh? The guy has played what probably 75-100 football games in his life? But just happened to have a freak injury in the only one where he played RB against an NFL defense. Weird. Just bad luck I guess. Shucks.
A whole lot of it is Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.I'm not asking for Super Bowl after Super Bowl. What I'm asking for is some common sense GM'ing. There's a reason why New England has been great the last 15 years and the answer is not Tom Brady. Thompson never was all that great nor will he be yet some don't even point a finger his way. Common sense GMing would have called that a terrible move. In fact...many now complaining likely were bashing Thompson for that one.Didn't the Patriots lose in the playoffs like 8 times in a row?
Incidentally, is anyone trying to argue that the Packers are missing Sitton now?
Ok so you name a bunch of ok guys and Daniels who was drafted in 2012 and is on his second contract, third highest paid DL in the NFL when he signed it. So he's a good move. I'll give Ted that.David Bahktiari is a borderline pro bowler. Mike Daniels is an absolute beast. More recently Blake Martinez looks like a good one. Corey Linsley, JC Tretter are all solid. I think Ty Montgomery will be good too. Kind of unfair to expect mid round picks to be pro bowlers after a season or two.
Every single play ever played is in hindsight. How if you can't discuss young players and you can't use hindsight, what is there to discuss? The future? The present?Amd you love hindsight.
Just prefer someone has something of substance to back up a claim.
Pretty much. Randall stinks. Montgomery has been injured.Jury is out on Monty...but Randall is just a bum.

And the rest are just a bunch of OK guys. Classic.
Because you look at need and where teams have people ranked when a pick is made. Not 5 years after saying..well, they should have taken this guy instead of that guy and calling it some terrible decision.Every single play ever played is in hindsight. How if you can't discuss young players and you can't use hindsight, what is there to discuss? The future? The present?
Like I said, you will defend anything the Mighty Ted does. If he hits (rarely) he's a genius. If he misses, the player is too young (Randall) or shouldnt be discussed with the benefit of hindsight.
Kind of tough to talk about anything if we can't use present or past. I guess we need to just stick to projecting the future.
No common sense GMing is exactly why Thompson drafted Rodgers. Too bad he's abandoned his BPa roots for pot shots ala Mike Sherman.A whole lot of it is Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.
Common sense GMing? WTF does that even mean? Do what the fans what? Oof.
Common sense GMing wouldn't have drafted Aaron Rodgers.
Come on dude. Nobody had Datone Jones tanked over DeAndre ####### Hopkins. Are you kidding me? It was an obvious reach and need pick. Just like Randall, a reach.Because you look at need and where teams have people ranked when a pick is made. Not 5 years after saying..well, they should have taken this guy instead of that guy and calling it some terrible decision.
I will defend it from ridiculous criticism. You can discuss Randall all you want...but its laughable that you want to say wait and see on Montgomery by halfway thru last season you had already declared Randall a bum. You can use past...you can talk about picks and players on their own merit. The...take this guy instead of that years down the road is hindsight crap.
The depth is why they arent under 500 and still go on the road with lead late in the game.No common sense GMing is exactly why Thompson drafted Rodgers. Too bad he's abandoned his BPa roots for pot shots ala Mike Sherman.
Remember when Sherman got canned and all the talk was of the cupboards being bare and the lack of depth.. well where is al this depth now?
Yeah he looked very good, until he got hurt. The speed was so eident. But then he couldn't play the next week. So obviously not a long term solution.
You do realize his missing the game had absolutely NOTHING to do with playing RB the week before right?!!! He has sickle cell syndrome. THAT is what caused the blood in his urine. Not any hit he took playing RB. The Packers were being cautious. So stop with your argument already.Could be. What are the chances though huh? The guy has played what probably 75-100 football games in his life? But just happened to have a freak injury in the only one where he played RB against an NFL defense. Weird. Just bad luck I guess. Shucks.
How can you seriously make a claim like this after yesterday's game? The fact that they were even in that game despite missing their top 3 DBs, Matthews at LB, their top 2 RBs, Cobb and Montgomery out is a testiment to the depth that TT has built on this team.Couple years ago, no, he took the Packers into the season with 2 QB's. I believe Rodgers was injured that year. Great backup plan.

There you go again with the facts.David Bahktiari is a borderline pro bowler. Mike Daniels is an absolute beast. More recently Blake Martinez looks like a good one. Corey Linsley, JC Tretter are all solid. I think Ty Montgomery will be good too. Kind of unfair to expect mid round picks to be pro bowlers after a season or two.
Stop already. You are just making a fool of yourself. You wanna talk depth? How do you think they remained in that game yesterday? No common sense GMing is exactly why Thompson drafted Rodgers. Too bad he's abandoned his BPa roots for pot shots ala Mike Sherman.
Remember when Sherman got canned and all the talk was of the cupboards being bare and the lack of depth.. well where is al this depth now?

He plays that 3d chess i keep hearing about. totally screwed us.Belichick knew Matthews would miss this game 7 years ago, that's why he traded the pick to Thompson.
I associate Favre with Holmgren and Wolfe, and with one Championship and wasted opportunities. I associate him with **** pics, collusion with tampering when he could not blackmail the franchise after years of trying to hold it hostage with talk of retirement, and with wishing the Bears well against the Packers just out of spite. I do not associate him particularly with Thompson other than him giving Thompson no choice but to look to the future. I associate Thompson with Rodgers. That's just me though.Couple years ago, no, he took the Packers into the season with 2 QB's. I believe Rodgers was injured that year. Great backup plan.

You know what's weird, both Montgomery and Cobb got hurt last year on plays at wide receiver. An ankle that eventually required surgery and an early season shoulder and a late season chest injury.Could be. What are the chances though huh? The guy has played what probably 75-100 football games in his life? But just happened to have a freak injury in the only one where he played RB against an NFL defense. Weird. Just bad luck I guess. Shucks.
Uh oh, facts. You do realize his missing the game had absolutely NOTHING to do with playing RB the week before right?!!! He has sickle cell syndrome. THAT is what caused the blood in his urine. Not any hit he took playing RB. The Packers were being cautious. So stop with your argument already.
How about the rest of the guys picked in the last three years? Who are these late round gems? Because they certainly aren't Running back or corners.Jury is out on Monty...but Randall is just a bum.

And the rest are just a bunch of OK guys. Classic.
Thank you for making my point. In 2010 we won the Super Bowl. Now the team is hopefully 9-7. Great improvement. This isn't true. 90% of this team wasn't here in 2010 and this, when healthy, is a playoff roster. Probably not a Super Bowl roster but a playoff one none the less. I can't believe you pant's pissers have me defending Thompson. I'm ready for Wolf to take over but man you and Mario Kart have unrealistic expectations.
No my friend, the depth is why we lost. The depth is why they arent under 500 and still go on the road with lead late in the game.
Not me. It was a smart move at the time and still is. Ted gets plenty right. Just not enough to get this team back into serious contention.Common sense GMing would have called that a terrible move. In fact...many now complaining likely were bashing Thompson for that one.
I don't think the word "facts" means what you think it means. Not a single fact in that statement. Just opinions. There you go again with the facts.
