2016 Oakland Raiders thread (2 Viewers)

Ok I think I've finally sobered up enough after the bye week to post my summary of the Bronco game. The tailgate never disappoints and it was really awesome to see all of the bronco fans that were there treated extremely well. The only fight I saw was between 2 women, both raider fans and both Latina before the game started.

The atmosphere in the stadium was out of control and my voice was shot by halftime. I may have to go to a few more games just for the tailgate and then Bart to a local bar to watch the game, ticket prices are crazy.

the highlight is a toss up, doing the flag on the field and fist bumping Marquette and Seabass

and running into Barry Sims and trading hats

You're not.

Bob McNair was the owner who said, screw the Raiders, they get nothing, when the LA deal was being made.

He was still offended that Al Davis had sued the NFL,  20 years before McNair became an owner.

#### that guy, #### his pretend contender of a team, and #### him for wanting to play a game in Mexico, but not wanting to give up a home game, so they took one of the Raiders' home games.

I hope there is 95,000 brown Raider fans booing the backup QB they are paying 17 million to. cheering our back up QB, in mop up duty,  as we continue to pile up points on the Texans. Much like that Broncos game a few years back minus the taking the foot off the peddle in the 3rd quarter

I will cheer for Xavier Su'a-filo however, as the Texans chose him over Derek Carr, because McNair is a smart owner who hired smart people. #### them.
Fixed

Hooray Bucs.

If the team needed any motivation, they can hop in the driver's seat in the division, and KC/DEN next week  is a real interesting game, if DEN wins we could be in a good spot.

Haven't been this excited for a Monday night game in a long time.  I think this team is ready to make another statement on the big stage.

If the Raiders win tonight (And they should!), there is going to be a ton of excitement for these Raiders.  This is a fun, young team that even non-Raider fans like.

So the Raiders lose a home game to Mexico City.

Play on Monday night.

Play next Sunday on a short week, against a team that last played on Thursday.

Then they finish the season with 3 of 4 on the road with all 3 road games against division opponents.

Nice.

Hey, at least we were able to swing the schedule to have two back-to-back games in FLA so we could go cross country and stay and acclimate.

You give some, you take some.

We have some chips stacked up against us given the schedule, but if this team is going to be a playoff team, they need to continue to handle this kind of adversity as they have all year. Think of every stadium as your turf, and do what it takes to win, no matter how pretty or ugly.

But yes, I think the NFL could look at making these kinds of scheduling match ups a little more even across all teams.

Agree with you and Chaka - you guys got a bad draw this year schedule wise.

No, we don't.
LOL, fair enough, how about non-Raider non-division rival fans? Although I think all of us in this thread definitely respected what LT brought to the field every game. Hard to not see, if you are a fan of the sport, how you couldn't appreciate the same with Carr, Osemele, and other guys who have elevated their own game and those around them.

It's just too bad they got robbed of a "home" game, playing a team that's based closer to Mexico than they are, and at elevation.

Just a brutal schedule for the Raiders - it's incredible that they have the road record that they do. If they win this, I'm considering this another road win, because you can't possibly call this a home game.

Then again, I believe Mark Davis had to OK this game, so the blame really falls on him. He's trying to expand his fanbase and viewing market so he can sell jerseys in Mexico.

This, from an article in February:

It doesn’t help a local season-ticket base that will pay for two preseason games and lose a home game that counts.

Despite some disappointment from local fans over losing another date to cheer their Raiders in person, owner Mark Davis had no trepidation about taking one of his dates off the schedule.

“None whatsoever,” Davis said on Friday. “I’ve always believed in Mexico City, the Raiders’ Hispanic fan base and how large it is. Playing there makes all the sense in the world.”

I've been on the bandwagon since they drafted Carr. Lord knows my team has shown zero commitment to winning or even building a competent franchise. It'd be one thing if they tried and failed, but at 30+ mil under the cap they didn't even bother.

So I've been rooting Silver & Black for a while now. As a little kid in the 70s it seemed like the Raiders were in the superbowl every year. Good times. Good teams. Real hard hitting football.

I really like the brand of football this current Raiders regime has put together. HOU is a good test, because their defense is still pretty legit (even after losing Watt) but their offense struggles at times (see: Brock Oswiler). Raiders offense will be tested, and if the Raiders D continues to show that they're gelling, it could be a looooong night for the Texans.

7800' is the wild card. Heard on the radio that the Texans were drinking a crapload of beet juice.  :X   Supposed to help. Beet juice. Yeah.

We got lucky, boys. Couple of those calls really should have gone the Texans way, no more than the DeAndre Hopkins miscall.

We did play flat -- the trenches were won by the Texans on both sides of the ball. No push on run plays, and couldn't contain either ends. Clowney finally looked like Clowney, and they embarassed us at the point of the running attack.

Crabs needed new gloves, his palms looked like they were immersed in turkey drippings.

But like other wins this season, we did what it took to win, unconventionally if we have to. And I'd call the RB receptions/TDs highly unconventional for us. Was great to see us keep on the deep strike, and loved Black Jack's continual  gambles -- this one that put the game away.

Huge, huge game to put us a game up in the division, and we now have the best record in the AFC. People look at the Pats as locks -- we have the same records on the road and at home, and have scored more points than they have this season (by one).

This is the game that showed me that we've officially arrived.

Two home games up next -- both tough teams, but both beatable if we execute.

They win?
This is what happens when you start believing all the hype

Yeah. That's what good teams do. But let's be real. The breaks went their way this week. They got out-played for 3 1/2 quarters by a sub par offense and QB. I'm still not convinced this is a playoff caliber defense. But it's all good, they're 8-2, first place and finding ways to win,  as ugly as it might have been.

Every successful team has games they win that are considered "ugly wins"...bottom line is they are winning them this year instead of losing them like in years past.  I am confident that there isn't a team in this league that can stop the Raiders offense from scoring close to 30 points a week which will keep them in a lot of games.

It is starting to get to the point that if the Raiders are in striking distance near the end of the game and the ball is in Carr's hands he will get it done.

You will not get an argument from anyone regarding your points. I am still holding out hope that Edwards and A. Smith return and we witness a major improvement in the pass rush. That is what is missing from the defense. Offensively the only disappointment is the lack of production in the run game. With all those quality big uglies up front it the offense has underperformed in the run game. I maintain the lack of production speaks more to the lack of talent at RB than anything else.

All said, we are 8-2. I wouldn't disagree if you said there was a lot of luck involved in that record. But it sure beats the hell out of what we have experienced the past decade plus!

Great win.  I know we call this a home game, but really this was road victory #6 if we are being honest here.  I think the elevation took its toll on both sides in the 4th quarter.  One team wanted it more, fought for it more. Took chances instead of punting and hoping.  Houston is what we used to be.  Check that, they are actually good. What I mean is that they are the type of team that finds a way to give away a win and have a myriad of excuses or blaming the road, the refs, the weather, the turf, yada yada...on and on.  We ain't that team anymore.  We won ugly, maybe a game we had no right to win considering how we got owned at the LOS for most of the game.

Maddening that we couldn't generate more pressure on Osweiller.  He has the look of a man that will flinch if you just threaten to get close to him.  He made some predictably bad throws off his back foot to no one in particular and some throws that just flat sailed on him.  If I was a Texans fan, I'd be watching each contested pass thru splayed eyes.  Osweiller is terrible.  Having said that, he was killing us with his long strides gaining chunks of yardage when we gave him a clean running lane.  Incrementally if we add an Aldon Smith or Mario Edwards Jr., it should be enough to put the kill shot on weaker QB's like him and dominate games in garbage time.  We aren't there yet.

Can we beat a team like the Patriots?  Not yet.  Sorry, they are too disciplined.  They are too multiple.  But we'd give hoodie some headaches planning for us I'm sure.  There is no way to really gameplan for franchise QB like Derek Carr who can make plays when he needs to.  It's the quintessential chess match.  Carr vs. Brady, tete-a-tete , maybe even Del Huevos vs Hoodie, or am I too drunk on last night's win?

The good news is we have time from here till January to figure it out and should beat some lesser opponents on the way to "dare I say it?", a first round bye??

Agree -- I feel we still haven't figured out how to stop mobile quarterbacks that can take advantage of over-aggressive pursuit, or defend middle-of the-field seam routes or crosses. Too many times the middle of the field is exploited against us.

Maybe that's a lack of more talented LBs (Aldon Smith), or the missing piece on the front lines (like Mario) to contain, but these are things we've had trouble against as a D since the turn of the Millennium.

The good news is we have time from here till January to figure it out and should beat some lesser opponents on the way to "dare I say it?", a first round bye??
We needed to figure this out on our bye. The Panthers are a dangerous team on both sides of the ball, and while their pass D is weak, they can force us to become one-dimensional by taking away the run game. And Cam is one of those QBs that can hurt us with his legs. Buffalo looks beatable, but they, too, can bring an A-level D, and have the talent at RB to gash us. Colts look beatable, but Luck should be healthy so it could turn into a shootout -- and a real test for our D.

And three road games against the other division opponents. Never easy.

I can see us racking up some L's along the way, so it's very premature to be talking first round bye. Certainly possible, but we need to continue to solidify and hold on to our first place lead. Raiders will need to earn it every minute of every quarter from here on out. It ain't going to be easy.

With all those quality big uglies up front it the offense has underperformed in the run game. I maintain the lack of production speaks more to the lack of talent at RB than anything else.
Disagree.  No one RB is going out and putting up monster games week-in-week-out but the team is running very well.  They are 9th in the league with 118 rushing yards/game (despite being 16th in attempts) and they are tied for 5th with an average of 4.6 YPC.

Jalen Richard 6.1 YPC

Latavius 4.2 YPC

DeAndre Washington 4.8 YPC

It's the fact that there is no dominating back that creates the impression that they are not a good running team.

sometimes all it takes is a magical season along with some talent to win a championship...we have both right now ...dont look a gift horse in the mouth

All this talk of luck and magical seasons has me thinking...  Would Brady and the Pats be who they are without the tuck rule? The 99 Rams we're the fastest show on turf but Tampa Bay almost beat them the playoffs and the Titans as we all know, also almost got them in the Super Bowl. Teams catch fire in a bottle. Maybe this is the Raiders turn again. How often do they get the breaks (Hopkins play, the short yardage spots by the refs). Maybe ,just maybe this game was the Raiders "tuck rule" game. Good teams find a way to win right? And to throw out another cliché, "sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. " Its been a long time since we've rooted for a winner. Seems like when you have strong leadership, great players and coaches, things just seem to go your way.

All that being said...  They must beat KC! Gotta get those ####$!

Three items that haven't been mentioned (or maybe I missed) about the game yesterday...

1.  The field condition was horrible!  I think the combination of the high altitude and the poor field impacted both teams far more than what was shown or discussed on the TV coverage.

2.  The green laser.  Was clearly a Raider fan, or Texan hater... only seemed to be evident when the Texans had the ball.

3.  Was it just me, or did the coverage not show the full replay (every single time they aired it) of the Hopkins - no TD.  The seemed to be cutting away or stopping the replay right before the foot that was considered out of bounds.

On point 3 it wasn't you as I noticed this as well.  I wonder if the rift between the NFL and ESPN has anything to do with it.  Meaning maybe ESPN didn't show all the replays to be able to smear the NFL officiating since the NFL hasn't been giving them great matchups on Monday night.

Just seems odd because when you see Dean Blandino's video on twitter explaining there were 2 angles that ESPN blatantly ignored that showed Hopkins appearing to be on the line at the 36 yard line.

The field condition was horrible.  These Mexico and London games need to stop.  It is not fair to the teams or fans involved.

Absolutely true about field conditions. Was really poor pitch, for any sport, let alone NFL football. Agree with the good Doctor H -- either have quality control when you go abroad or don't go abroad.

Green laser was disgraceful. Again, hard to control this (and surprised that this hasn't happened at a lot of NFL games stateside) -- hard to catch and police. But there is an element of expectation and higher standards fans need to have to respect the game. Was sickening to see a "fan" using this bush league tactic. Didn't see it used on the Raiders, etiher.

Thought the replay showed fully, at least in terms of showing every angle that they had of the relevant time period when Hopkins' foot was near the sidelines. Saw what I needed to see, anyway.
