I'm all for silly UNC academic scandal jokes from the haters and wannabes who can't handle the Heels'' recent overwhelming success
? you can't be serious lol. First decades of cheating of the likes the NCAA has never seen before is hardly "silly" or "joke worthy" I mean we know now UNC's admissions and standards and practices for keeping "student atheletes" elligable are a joke, but it's no laughing matter. And once they get the death penalty and titles and wins stripped I doubt you will find it funny either.

No reason to go over the edge here.  No matter how many titles the Heels win, I promise the sun will rise tomorrow.  I understand you would go to the ends of the earth to justify your loathing of the defending national champions, but for the rest of us the world will just keep turning.

And no matter how bad they cheated to earn at least  3 of those titles, and after thise tainted titles are stripped away, you'll still walk around with your Walmart UNC t-shirts claiming how great your program is right? Lol. Enjoy your *title as I'm sure it was exciting watching them shoot 20 something percent and cutting down the nets! Basketball at its finest!! ?

I disagree with your perspective, but it takes all kinds to make the world go 'round!

I will admit this new Duke basketball recruit looks pretty good

So fellow Duke fans, I think an argument can be made this is one of Duke's best freshman classes with 4 top 8 players. I think for the 3rd time, we will see Duke and UNC win titles in consecutive years

Duke 91,92 - UNC 93

UNC 2009 - Duke 2010

UNC 2017 - Duke 2018

Who else is feeling #6?

Pack cracks the top 25 for the first time in ages.  Manny Perez named national player of the week and called up to the U20 MNT.

The keeper was conference defensive player of the week.

Suddenly State has potentially its best college football season ever in front of them for the taking. The loss to USC to open the season is particularly disappointing now, since it was a game they should have won, in which case they would be undefeated. Nevertheless, wins over FSU and Louisville were impressive and puts them in good position.

Still a very tough stretch over their next 5 games: @PIT, @ND, Clemson, @BC, @Wake. Notre Dame and Clemson are obviously the toughest opponents in that stretch, and State beat ND last season and should have taken Clemson to OT in Death Valley, so we know they can win either or both of those games. State has beaten Wake each of the last 3 seasons, but is 1-2 vs. BC in that span.

If they finish the season 5-1 with the 1 loss to Clemson, they would be 7-1 in ACC play and 10-2 overall, but presumably not eligible for the ACC championship game. So they still have to beat Clemson to have a shot at the championship, a very tall order.

State is really good on offense but their D is pretty damn good too.  I would think a 10-2 season might put them in the Orange Bowl assuming Clemson goes to the playoffs.  Either way looks like a special season for State this year.

UNC is finally releasing their infractions from the academic scandel tomorrow.  On the same day they are hanging a basketball championship banner in the Dean Dome.   :lmao:

I'll take an order of that.

where the hell is this coming from?
It seems to be the prevailing theory in a lot of places ( both pro and anti unc)

Similar to how Penn State was able to get some roll backs after the Paterno stuff. Unc is going to argue that it's an academic issue and that the NCAA doesn't have jurisdiction to punish them.

They'll spare no expense to get any significant punishment of the basketball team (either win vacations or future post season bans) overturned.

thats laughable quite honestly.  My UNC family is being more realistic and thinking they are going to get popped.  I know there is an appeal process that the school can do once the punishment is handed down and that creates a "stay" for the penalties but I wonder if the penalties are enforced would they get a "stay" if they sued.

:lmao:  whooooooooops

Jesus GT loses their ACC Championship banner because Demaryius Thomas took a watch from a former teammate (that worked for an agent) but UNC gets nothing.  Gotta love the NCAA

Not even a little surprised.
Wow...so UNC just showed everyone the blueprint.

Create fake courses for your athletes...usher them to take those classes...but allow the regular student body to also be able to try to find a seat in the class and "all is good".

It's an academic thing...not an athletic benefit.

Unreal...absolutely amazing.

Kudos UNC...seriously...you just gotta tip your hat to that.

Maybe Pitino should've also offered whores to a few of the regular student body and no one could say anything.

So you are on death row for a crime you committed. OJs lawyers or UNCheats lawyers??

Oh, Duke is going to completely smash the field this year. They get that absurdly unbalanced easy ACC schedule the Cheats got last year and they are loaded with Allen, Bagley, Carter, Trent, and Duvall as their starting 5.

Did you really not learn from last year?

Yes, they get a theoretically easy conference schedule and they have a very talented roster. But they're an injury away from puddle-shallow backcourt and Duval really can't shoot AT ALL.

Totally different team than last year, there is no Giles coming off major surgery. Yes Duvall isn't a shooter but he doesn't have to be with the roster makeup. And any team could have injuries at any time, you going to live in fear of that every year?

Living in Fear------------------------------Assuming a team with one player who has ever played meaningful minutes in a real game against adults is going to "smash the competition"

There's a pretty big chasm between those 2 ideas. I'm somewhere in the middle. Very talented group. Maybe a better mix of pieces (in terms of individual skill sets) than last year. But until I see them defend as a group in a game that matters, I'm withholding judgement.

At Duke they call it the Sociology department.

Seriously?  Your school got out of sanctions by saying fake courses were open to everyone. That's the epitome of a joke. It devalues a degree from that school. But I guess priorities and everything. If you're happy with that outcome...

NCAA is becoming quite the joke. I'll miss it but it's days are likely numbered at least in its current capacity.

Well, the thing is they were open to everyone. But nevertheless, it was a genuine scandal. People were fired. Processes were changed, New safeguards weee put in place. There was a review by the accrediting agency and a probationary period. The university and alums were embarrassed.

But here’s the other thing- the story broke almost a decade ago. It’s long since over. The only people who haven’t gotten over it are petty sports fans who never cared one bit about UNC academics before and are now merely demanding a pound of flesh they feel they are owed for some pathetic reason. And I’m gonna laugh at those pathetic people for as long as they’re willing to amuse me.

Absolutely love this Duke team.   This year is going to be so much fun.   Just a crazy amount of length and athleticism.   Love the zone defense and finally not getting destroyed off the dribble.    Remarkably for a duke team, all 4 freshman (not including o'connell or goldwire although he looks competent) look like big contributors right from the beginning.  DeLaurier also looks really good as a guy off the bench.  Duval looks like the 2nd coming of Rondo.    Not sure if tonight was just an off night but that was some rough shooting.

It wasn't an off night. Duval is a non shooter. Not a bad shooter. A non shooter.

Winning that game without Bagley is pretty awesome. Kinda wish they didn't have such a Cakewalk non conference schedule the rest of the way. Gonna be a while before we learn any more about this group

Well other than the shooting, Duval looks great.   So much further along than someone like Thornton was at the same point.

Bagley and Carter are future all pros. This is going to be a fun year
Jahlil Okafor better hope Bagley goes to the Western Conference or his spot on All-Star team could be in jeopardy.

(I'm sorry everyone, I couldn't resist. Back to your regularly scheduled programming)

Nate Peterman starting for the Bills. Between him and Savage, I can't see how Pitt how doesn't parlay this into a serious recruiting tool: "We can put literally anyone in the NFL, and you will start!"

Joe Flacco played for Pitt too before transferring to Delaware.

Cam Johnson (grad student transfer from Wake, arguably in line to be UNC's second-best player this year) out for TBD with torn meniscus in his knee.  I saw a couple suggestions that maybe it'll be a 4-6 week thing which would be fine, but if he's out for the season it would put a serious dent in UNC's chances of doing something significant in March.

I assume this is karmic punishment for my Jahlil Okafor joke.

Clearly punishment....

Seriously though, this seems like a pretty big hit. They're short on shooters already and they don't seem to have the personnel to play Roy's preferred shoot quick and chase down the rebound style.

Pinson and maye as complimentary pieces, fine. As the top 2 options (at least until Berry's joystick hand recovers), oof.

And for the record, I'm fairly certain my okafor in the nba comments were solely focused on his ineterior offensive abilities. (I may be wrong.it was 3 years  ago)Still not sure I was wrong on that.(He did get 17 a game as a rookie, albeit on an awful team)He's  clearly not built for the modern NBA but he's too gifted a scorer to not be an asset to some extent. He's partially to blame (he's a horrible defender and bad rebounder for his size) but Philly has straight up screwed that kid.

My bad, Pitt.

They’ve got some shooters in place this year.  Kenny Williams can shoot and he will be getting minutes, and Jalek Felton looked great in the opener. We’ll see how long that lasts, but it was promising. And Berry will be back very soon, may even play tonight last I heard. Obviously you’d rather have Johnson shooting than all of them, including Maye and Pinson, but they still have guys with range.

I think the bigger problem will be size- I assume they were gonna use him at the 3 or maybe even in a small stretch 4 role at times given the fact that the only frontcourt players on the roster are Maye and three frosh.  One of them looked promising in the opener (Brooks), the others not so much. I don’t know where they find those minutes at the 3 and 4 now.  Pinson and Maye can’t play 40 each.

If there was karma the nose dome would collapse during a practice for decades of cheating. And the Cheats aren’t going to do anything in the post season with or without Cam Johnson. Get real.

NC State just upset #2 Arizona in the Bahamas!

Really glad the NCAA did the right thing with Braxton Beverly - he had 20 points, 2 assists, 2 steals, and just 1 turnover.

Coach Keatts had been impressive since day one, now we see that he is just as good an in game coach. Archie who?
