Does anyone have the link to the new live scoring app that I think Steeler is taking over from Ignacio? Thanks

I'm a proud Hunt owner, but I'm not reading anything into this performance. The Pats look clueless on defense tonight. Clueless.
What are you talking about? Hunt is on pace for 4000 total yards and 48 tds. CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Pretty sure staff entries are already in the querier meaning if those 4 Hunt non-believers are safe this week.

QB - Andy Dalton - CIN/6 - $12
QB - Sam Bradford - MIN/9 - $7
QB - Jared Goff - LAR/8 - $6

I've always been higher on Dalton than most and at $12... pairing him with Bradford who has a pass-catching RB, steady TE and 2 WRs he locks onto, now factor in a top 5 schedule for QBs, seems like a perfect best ball mate for Dalton.  For $6 I'll take the #1 overall pick from a year ago with his new coach and anointed offensive guru.

RB - Christian McCaffrey - CAR/11 - $19
RB - Ameer Abdullah - DET/7 - $18
RB - Dalvin Cook - MIN/9 - $17
RB - Doug Martin - TB/1 - $15
RB - Kareem Hunt - KC/10 - $10
RB - Alvin Kamara - NO/5 - $8
RB - Charcandrick West - KC/10 - $3

CMC is my favorite rookie ever and I called top 5 NFL pick for him a year before he was drafted.  No surprise I'm taking him as my top RB in a best ball format.  Hunt and Cook offer similar upside and as of this writing, Hunt already put a 50 burger up in his debut, so that's pretty encouraging!  Adding Char West as insurance for $3 was a no-brainer decision with Ware out for year.  Add in Doug Martin who by all accounts is clean and focused and playing as good as ever.  I haven't even mentioned a guy who I thought would break out last year, Abdullah.  Add in home run threat Kamara who has been called special by coach Payton and AP.  I love my RBs in this format.

WR - Kelvin Benjamin - CAR/11 - $17
WR - DeVante Parker - MIA/1 - $14
WR - Marvin Jones - DET/7 - $11
WR - Corey Coleman - CLE/9 - $10
WR - Ted Ginn - NO/5 - $9
WR - Chris Hogan - NE/9 - $5

Obviously, WR is my weak link but I have what I believe to be a core of WRs who will outperform their ADP by a good chunk.  Talking about Benjamin, Parker, Coleman and Hogan.  I see 2 of those guys cracking top 15 and all 4 being top 30.  I just need some timely big games and I'm good.  Especially considering my TEs...

TE - Rob Gronkowski - NE/9 - $27
TE - Zach Ertz - PHI/10 - $13
TE - Austin Seferian-Jenkins - NYJ/11 - $6

IMO, I have the top TE and another top 5 in Ertz. I'm all in on Ertz this season, think he breaks into the top 5.  ASJ should be good for spot duty with huge upside being at that breakout range in experience for the position and like Martin, having turned his life around (by all accounts).

PK - Blair Walsh - SEA/6 - $3
PK - Greg Zuerlein - LAR/8 - $2
PK - Zane Gonzalez - CLE/9 - $2
TD - Houston Texans - HOU/7 - $8
TD - Tampa Bay Buccaneers - TB/1 - $4
TD - San Francisco 49ers - SF/11 - $2
TD - Cleveland Browns - CLE/9 - $2

I've never gone more than 2 at either D or PK in the past and often times going with 1 (early bye) for each.  This year a light sort of clicked and I feel like I've unlocked the matrix with this contest.  I think having multiple Ds can be a difference maker.  Its a long season but I really love my team this season.

Having said the above - I have a 2nd bullet in the chamber this year.

ConstruxBoy has retired from fantasy football but still had a subscription from a previous contest win and subcontracted out picking a roster with me and we'll split anything :)

As it turns out I like this roster (that I slammed together in the last hours after submitting the last version of my own) a heckuva lot more than my "official" entry.  It has a lot-more lesser owned guys (I think there's 11 guys less than 1000-owned) and is (kinda surprisingly IMO) one of only 18 entries that has both Brees and Goff.  It also humorously only 6 players in common with my "official" entry.  Anyway here it is.  Will post thoughts on this one later as well  (THANKS AGAIN CB!):

QB 2 for $31

QB Brees Drew NO/5 25  477 entries

QB Goff Jared LAR/8 6   711 entries

Both entries I'm in with have only 2 QBs - after basically never doing it.  Brees historically has put up big numbers in a pass-heavy offense.  That is supposed to change this year, but there have been other periods where the Saints were stacked and invested at RB and they still largely were based around the pass.  Goff has a lot of new weapons and a year under his belt and the job is safely his - good cheap option IMO.

5 RBs for $84

RB Mixon Joe Cin/6 23  446 entries

RB McCaffrey Christian Car/11 19  4034 entries

RB Cook Dalvin Min/9 17  4705 entries

RB Powell Bilal NYJ/11 15  2512 entries

RB Hunt Kareem KC/10 10  9277 enries

Another early idea I discarded after a while on my original entry.  I love this year's crop of rookie running backs.  I ran some queries and it seems like rookie RBs that get the bulk of the team's starts before the same (even a better) than veterans - they are plug and play.  Cook and Hunt have always been in my mix.  Having the popular Powell here made sense too.  McCaffrey is in a good spot.  Mixon - I think he's the real deal and the biggest hurdles he may have to deal with are the Bengals o-line and Marvin Lewis.  But with this 2nd chance I snagged him - it is good to have lightly owned options where, even if this price is a little inflated, are in a position to make a difference.  Mixon fits that bill.

WRs - 9 for $74

WR Hill Tyreek KC/10 19   2361 entries

WR Jackson DeSean TB/11 13  711 entries

WR Ginn Ted NO/5 9  2836 entries

WR Shepard Sterling NYG/8 9  301 entries

WR Beasley Cole Dal/6 8  808 entries

WR Stills Kenny Mia/11 5  410 entries

WR Anderson Robby NYJ/11 5   1868 entries

WR Golladay Kenny Det/7 3   1989 entries

WR Agholor Nelson Phi/10 3   819 entries

Almost all different names from the other entry.  Only Robby Andrerson is on both.  Put a couple more guys in the high single-digits here.  I'll admit I was iffy on Hill but the potential was appealing so I deciding to make him the closest thing to a high-$ WR.  Jackson and Stils were alternate week 1 guys who could put up numbers.  Ginn will be boom or bust but had a good camp.  Shepard is strictly a specuation on a guy I though had potential to improve and who may have slipped off some folks' radar.  I dropped Beasley essentially for Witten on the other entry - dude gets a lot of volume and can provide a nice floor.  Golladay and Agholor are guys who had some camp hype and figured I would go with them instead of the guys I chose on the other entry.

TEs - 5 for $44

TE Rudolph Kyle Min/9 15   1156 entries

TE Ertz Zach Phi/10 13  4396 entries

TE Fiedorowicz C.J. Hou/7 9   524 entries

TE Gresham Jermaine Ari/8 4   196 entries

TE Kittle George SF/11 3  1051 entries

Ertz and Gresham are on both of my entries - really like Ertz and in Gresham there is a guy who will get some definite looks at a cheap price.  Dropped Kittle from my other entry with the injury concerns (and awfulness of SF) but kept him here - he's a rookie but will have a good role.  Rudolph is a guy who should gobble a ton of targets and have some good starts - potential for some elite games.  Fiedorowicz is a guy I looked at early in my process.  With a young signal-caller either way he should get a lot of looks as a safety valve and figure he'd be lightly owned.

PKs - 3 for $8

PK Walsh Blair Sea/6 3   3388 entries

PK Sturgis Caleb Phi/10 3   2270 entries

PK Zuerlein Greg LAR/8 2   2034 entries

Sturgis I have on both entries - good cheap kicker in a good spot.  Went different with the other 2 guys - Walsh should see a lot of opportunities though I don't know how attached to him Seattle is.  I think the Rams will improve which should help Zuerlein though he hasn't really helped himself.  If he gets better, though, he may get some long FGs.

DEFs - 3 for $9

DEF Miami Mia/11 4   458 entries

DEF Tennessee Ten/8 3   1609 entries

DEF New Orleans NO/5 2   970 entries

Went with a different group from my other entry including a week one bye team.  I probably like these 3 better tbh.

-QG
27 players.  Only 6 in common with the other entry I'm involved in.  11 players owned by less than 1000 people.  Only entry with a top-4 line of Brees/Mixon/Hill/Rudolph

Basically the same strategy I use every year, except for my QBs. Usually I go for two mid-level QBs, but this time I went for a stud plus a cheap guy.

  • Drew Brees $25
  • Alex Smith $8
Damn, now I'm wondering why I wasted all that money on Brees. Could have just rolled with Smith and some other scrub.  :lmao:

I have him in one of my season long leagues. Don't want to overreact but I'm concerned. He looked like a big slow guy with a bad back last night.
I still think he will be a top fantasy TE but the days of dominant Gronk may be over and the chances of him missing games is very high.

Please remind me of where to go to find the number of owners with a particular player or combination.

Thanks!

A non-Hunt owner.

  • Hogan was a last minute switch from Travis Benjamin who I consider a great best ball player. I feel like I might regret that. I would've rather had Amendola for cheaper but he didn't make the list (wtf).
I'm going to be grumpy about Amendola not making the list all year... well, at least until he gets hurt. Maybe Hogan will pay off during the contest playoffs.

Settled in on a 29 man roster this year.  They usually have one of the top survival rates.  Mostly a mix of studs and value plays.  Figured on scoring two RBs, cobbling together two WR scores, and getting my flex from Hunt, Ertz, and Bennett

Jameis Winston $17 - last minute switch due to the bye change.  This pick was Big Ben or Manning on several iterations

Andy Dalton $12 - If I win, thank you to the people who posted the rosters early as I stole the Dalton pick.  This selection was Bradford most of the pre-season.

David Johnson $39 0.00 bye - Checked his box on day one and never faltered.  Why have 2-2.5 mid priced guys when DJ will double their score most weeks.

LeVeon Bell $35 0.00 bye - Toyed with Cmac and Martin here.  Bottom line is that Bell outscores them most weeks and his receptions offer a great weekly floor.

Kareem Hunt $10 0.00 bye - Duh.  The winner will have him if he plays 13 weeks.

Wendell Smallwood $3 0.00 bye - I don't buy Blount is the answer.  Smallwood won my several hundreds in college FD so I'm riding that horse again.

Marvin Jones $11 0.00 bye - Waldman has him at WR14 and a great explanation why he fell off last year, I bit.  Considered Parker here but it never made for a good fit with the rest of the team.

Ted Ginn $9 0.00 bye - Day one check mark for me.  Brees and best ball make this a no brainer.  I think he exceeds his Cam numbers which were a bargain at this price.  The Snead suspension is bonus because it gives him time to gain Brees trust.

Tyler Lockett $8 0.00 bye - Personally I think Richardson is the guy in Seattle, but @Boston Fred gave a competing reason why Lockett is the guy.  Covered my bases.

Chris Hogan $5 0.00 bye - Duh

Robby Anderson $5 0.00 bye - Probably should have pivoted off him when Kerley and Kerse came to town.

Torrey Smith $4 0.00 bye - Philly's second WR will offer big value.  Pretty sure I......

Kendall Wright $4 0.00 bye - I think he'll be the number one in Chicago.  White will be hurt in no time.

Paul Richardson $3 0.00 bye - A WR2 on a team with a very good QB, sign me up.

Kenny Golladay $3 0.00 bye - Pre-season darling.

Malcolm Mitchell $3 0.00 bye - Thought he would be the guy if Hogan didn't pan out.  Brady throws too many TDs not to have a piece of his pie.  now on IR.

Phillip Dorsett $3 0.00 bye - Thought he would be the guy if Hogan and Mitchell didn't pan out.

Nelson Agholor $3 0.00 bye - got him (see Smith)

Rob Gronkowski $27 0.00 bye - I toyed with Graham here and adding a another player.  But then I remember he's GRONK and the best damn player in the league.  Disrespect Gronk at your own risk.

Zach Ertz $13 0.00 bye - Best TE value and a sure flex most weeks.

Martellus Bennett $13 0.00 bye - Great best ball play.

George Kittle $3 0.00 bye - Fill in just in case Gronk stubs his toe dancing with the ladies.

Caleb Sturgis $3 0.00 bye - cheap kicker

Blair Walsh $3 0.00 bye - another cheap kicker

Greg Zuerlein $2 0.00 bye - even a cheaper kicker

Chicago Bears $3 0.00 bye - cheap defense

Cleveland Browns $2 0.00 bye - cheaper defense

Detroit Lions $2 0.00 bye - throwing crap at the wall

New Orleans Saints $2 0.00 - something will stick

Gonna need DJ, Bell, and Gronk to offset the difference between NE, Seattle, Philly and Det WR2 production and a stud WR production to be a factor in this contest.
Interesting. I've thought about going stud RB and a ton of cheap WRs (the 4:12 ratio is very necessary here), but I always fall in love with at least one semi-expensive WR (this year it was Keenan). I had most of those WRs on my roster at one point or another. Lockett was too expensive after Richardson got named the starter, IMO, but if he gets his shot, I think he'll be a bargain. Ginn in best ball was super tempting, but I feel like Brees might kick him to the curb mid-season for too many drops. The guy just can't effing catch. I felt so bad for Newton the past couple years. If Ginn could catch, he'd have been a fantasy WR1 in Carolina. But I'm on that Marvin bandwagon with you. I've got him in 100% of my leagues.

I think you're going to regret that Dalton for Bradford switch. Bradford was $5 cheaper, so you could've had an extra player (could've almost had Bradford + Kizer or Goff), but more importantly Dalton is going to get crushed behind that awful OL. Bradford's line should be better this year, he should be more comfortable with the offense, and his weapons look pretty good.

Those TEs are studly. I wanted to fit Bennett in (could he be what Finley was supposed to be??), but didn't feel comfortable with his volume. I'm sure he'll score TDs but with 1.5PPR, I wanted someone with more targets. If he gets 120 this year, I'm going to have some serious regret.

Overall, I like it. A very unique take on the large roster team. Probably the only 28+ roster with DJ, Bell, and Gronk!

Thanks for the feedback.

Just went and looked.  Bradford had a week 9 bye and I was concerned having only one QB on the week that Bell, Gronk, and several WRs were out.  Sometimes those stupid byes force our hands.  I pretty dead set against three QBs.  In the final three weeks, someone is likely to have your QB that is scoring the bulk of your points and will have the extra $ to boot.

Agree with you on Bennett.  I was looking at him more as a flex play with Gronk   and Ertz scoring for me most weeks.  I like my flex plays to be TD guys with variance.  Charles Clay was probably the best value in the contest per Dodd's projections, but he didn't feel like a difference maker.

Meh, Dodds projections... Glay looked like decent value at $8, but if Kittle is actually the starter (all signs point to yes) on a WR deprived 49ers, I think he's the most obvious value here. Whoever wins the Baltimore TE job will also probably be the best value, but who that will be is not obvious... so I went with the cheapest of them (Maxx) vs the 36 y.o. guy for $2 more. My problem with Clay is that I don't think he'll score many TDs, so he's really similar to ASJ (the TE on a team without WRs) who was $2 cheaper. Gronk will be fine for you, though. He almost had a TD last night and looks in prime form.

But back to QBs, I know people usually go stud+dud so we always see 1 QB scoring all the points, but even mediocre QBs can go off and good QBs can struggle (or just not get TDs) - look at Smith and Brady last night. You likely can't afford a mediocre week in the finals, so I'm all about grabbing 3 value QBs and just hoping one goes off every week. I chose Stafford, Palmer, and Bradford (total of $30). I'd be really curious to see how they stack up against some ~$30 duos, but I'll probably forget or be too lazy to check that after the season is over. I had Tannehill on my first iteration - I'm a Gase believer - so I wish Cutler had made the list!

In this contest, I went for as many value players as I could roster. Like most, I divided projected fantasy points by the player's price to determine value. However, I also ran the player's consistency value to weed out some players with high values. Since rookies do not have consistency values, I had to make a judgement call in those cases. Also using the staff's 8/14/17 best ball strategies  article aided in some of my decisions.

At QB, I spent 11.8% of my budget:

QB - Cam Newton - CAR/11 - $15  - Best value out of the top 10
QB - Alex Smith - KC/10 - $8          - I love contract year players
QB - Deshone Kizer - CLE/9 - $6   - More upside than Goff for the same price

At RB, I spent 30% of my budget:

RB - Davin Cook - MIN/9 - $17             - A rookie with upside and no competition in Minn
RB - Theo Riddick - DET/7 - $15         - A PPR monster and Abdullah always seem to get hurt
RB - Kareem Hunt - KC/10 - $10         - A no-brainier after Ware was lost for the season
RB - Rob Kelly - WAS/5 - $10              - Will get his chances in Washington
RB - Jacquizz Rogers - TB/1 - $9         - Martin's poor ypc and suspension
RB - Darren McFadden - DAL/6 - $7    - Elliott's 6 game suspension
RB - Jamaal Williams - GB/8 - $7         - Not sure Ty Montgomery will last the year as an three down back

At WR, I spent 40.8% and played the QB-WR combos: I have the only entry with the Newton/Benjamin and Smith/Hill combination

WR - Demaryius Thomas - DEN/5 - $24  - Denver's QB will be challenged to throw
WR - Allen Robinson - JAC/8 - $22          - Second best value in the top 20
WR - Tyreek Hill - KC/10 - $19                 - Best value in top 20 and QB-WR combo 2
WR - Kelvin Benjamin - CAR/11 - $17      - QB-WR combo 1
WR - Corey Coleman - CLE/9 - $10         - QB-WR combo 3
WR - Zay Jones - BUF/6 - $7                   - With Matthews gone, someone has to get the receptions
WR - Kenny Golladay - DET/7 - $3          - Best projected rookie for the value

At TE, I spent 9.6% of my budget and chose the top 3 value players

TE - Zach Ertz - PHI/10 - $13                 - Everyone recognized his top 5 value
TE - Charles Clay - BUF/6 - $8              - Matthews departure means more opportunities
TE - George Kittle- SF/11 - $3               - Best value among starting TEs

At K and DEF, I spent 8% of my budget an went strictly for value

PK - Mason Crosby - GB/8 - $5
PK - Caleb Sturgis - PHI/10 - $3
PK - Blair Walsh - SEA/6 - $3
TD - Philadelphia - PHI/10 - $5
TD - Green Bay - GB/8 - $4

Yes -- Thinning that herd will be a must. It wont happen until October.  I went RB Heavy too, complementing Jay Howard, Ameer Abdullah and Jay Ajahi with Hunt.

My team always looks strong in September then fizzles, so im hoping having 3 kickers and 3 defenses helps soften the edge.

Jameis Winston $17 0.00

Marcus Mariota $16 0.00

It's going to be next to impossible to thin the Hunt Herd.  I doubt that most teams took him as their #1 (or even #2) RB.  Instead, he was the "bargain" to add to 1 or 2 studs. So, even on his bye week (or in a down week), those teams will have other RBs to rely on.  As LittlePhatty said above, (if he continues to produce), he's much like Arian Foster in 2010, when he was either $1 or $2 in the contest and got annointed as the starter the week before the season started. He started out on about 2/3 of the teams as well, and as the season went on, that %-age only increased. By the time the finals rolled around, you either had him or you were out.

The Hunt herd won't be thinned - barring injury   90%+ of the final 250 will have him

-QG
It will be higher than that. Any weeks like last night will doom most non Hunt owners to a battle for survival with other non Hunt owners. Didn't Foster end up near 99% back in the day?

yeah I think it was 249 out of 250 had Foster.

And yeah I was being conservative saying 90%.

Herd-thinning generally happens for lesser-owned studs.  3% own Brees for example.  If THAT herd gets thinned it could be great for any remaining Brees owners.

Gronk and Kelce and Brady herds woulda been thinned if there were eliminations this week.

2010 Subscriber Contest Week 16

Arian Foster was $13 back in 2010, but still a no-brainer. I think in the final 250 he was well over 90% owned, so other players were the difference makers. Gronkowski was $3 that year, and he showed up big in the playoffs. Aaron "The Murderer" Hernandez was $5, and a lot of entries took both.

I placed 25th that year, and haven't even come close to making it to the finals since.

Lotta guys extrapolating an awful lot for Hunt from 1 game.
naah it isn't just how Hunt did it is sort of the momentum that happens with a highly owned player.  I'm often amused by terrible players that end up with high survival rates just by chance.

I've got the guy so I'm hoping he really is Emmitt Sanders. But I think the Pats Defense contributed a lot to his performance. I like Alex Smith more than most (have him too), but he absolutely is not Aaron Rodgers, which is what the Pats made him look like.

Too late to use this info, but here are some of my favorite lightly owned (< 5% ownership) guys:

0.74%    TE Marcedes Lewis JAX $2 - Likely starting TE and it doesn't take much to be worth $2
0.77%    WR Laquon Treadwell MIN $5 - 1st rounder could step up in year 2; likely to at least be involved this year as their #3 WR
0.81%    TE Maxx Williams BAL $3 - Has a shot to be the TE on a team where the shell of Dennis Pitta caught 86 passes last year
0.90%    WR Jeremy Kerley NYJ $3 - A contender for snaps+targets in the Jets' wide open WR corps
1.16%    WR Markus Wheaton CHI $3 - The highest paid Bears' WR; who knows how things will shake out - he could wind up as their top WR
1.51%    WR ArDarius Stewart NYJ $3 - Also a contender for snaps+targets in the Jets' wide open WR corps
1.56%    WR John Ross CIN $6 - Top 10 pick could have a big role by the end of the year which is when it really counts
1.71%    WR Tyler Boyd CIN $3 - Had 600 receiving yards as a rookie; people are assuming his role will shrink but it also could grow
2.18%    WR Jaron Brown ARI $3 - Slots 2-4 in the ARI WR pecking order are up for grabs, and Palmer could bounce back
2.55%    WR Marqise Lee JAX $6 - Likely starting receiver
2.65%    WR Jermaine Kearse NYJ $3 - Another contender for snaps+targets in the Jets' wide open WR corps
2.78%    WR Jordan Matthews BUF $10 - Could be the go-to receiver in Buffalo
3.04%    WR Kenny Stills MIA $5 - Should have some big games as a deep threat for Cutler
3.14%    RB Kerwynn Williams ARI $2 - Could be a solid fantasy starter if DJ goes down
3.54%    RB Javorius Allen BAL $2 - Baltimore RB rotation is up in the air; could shake out in his favor
3.73%    WR Demaryius Thomas DEN  $24 - Relatively safe bet for 1000 yards and has a chance to bounce back for another big season
4.37%    RB Alvin Kamara NO $8 - Could get 5 rec/g in the Sproles role, or a bunch of carries if there's an AP/Ingram injury, and it's the late-season role that counts

I own 4 of these guys (Marcedes, Maxx, Markus, and ArDarius), and would probably have more if I had known these ownership levels in advance.

Lotta guys extrapolating an awful lot for Hunt from 1 game.
I have extrapolated that he will be used as expected.  As KC's starting RB.

For $10, there was not a more obvious choice in the contest.

This was as no-brainer. I don't see how a non-Hunt team will survive late into the contest. It's possible I guess but you're at a huge disadvantage.

Stafford $13, Goff $6

Stafford offering good value at $13. Goff just cheap insurance.

David Johnson $39 , D. Freeman $30, K. Hunt $10,  D. Henry $13, C. West $3, DeAndre Washington $5

Was going to try Bell and Freeman with Powell and other top wrs but had bye week issues and perceived lack of depth.  Decided to drop Powell, ultimately felt DJ was worth the splurge.

Mike Evans $29, Demaryius Thomas $24, S. Diggs $17, J. Matthews $10, Hogan $5, T. Boyd $3

Went back and forth with AB84, Julio, and A.J. Green on earlier versions then decided to add depth with Diggs, and save money with Evans and Thomas while reducing common bye week problems. Boyd was carry over from Green.

Graham $18, McDonald $4, Maxx Williams $3

Graham due for bounce back. Other two good for spurts, with Maxx offering high upside in receptions.

Crosby $5, Santos $4

Steelers $5, Raiders $4
