2018 FBG Subscriber Contest (4 Viewers)

Hoping to get some feedback on this team:

QB - Really think I need 3 QBs, but felt these two will have a big year  if I get another it would be Flacco or Darnold. I also considered Rivers. I would like to fit in Brady, but it completely changes my QB options so that it would be him and two flyers, probably Flacco and darnold and I do not want to depend on those two.

RB: struggling here. I want an absolute stud and don’t see how that isn’t Gurley. My other option was Ez E (but I am a Cowboys fan, so don’t want to over think this with my boys are the best). Ingram will be fresh, but I have to make it to week 6 for him to split carries with Kamara. Some RB from NE has to produce and Burkhead is already hurt  I fought he stays healthy this year, but I know the handcuff is not a good decision in this contest. Barber and Brenda are my flyers, but I believe they both will have a good to great season.

WR: I think this is my first team without Hopkins  with Fuller banged up, I don’t see how I can Not Select Hopkins. I dropped to Baldwin because I feel no one else will get as many chances as he will this year. No competition for him, but I hate guys that are already hurting with this contest. Tyreek is looking great again this year and should be heavily targeted. hogan as Brady has to throw to someone and Hogan should blow up this year. Edelman is suspended for 4 games and is a big injury risk. Goodwin was the first player I selected. Garcon will have a good season, but it is Goodwin who will crush it this year. Golladay has the ability and Gallup as Dak has to throw it to someone.

TE: the position I hate this year. I have had Olsen in almost every entry so far. I thought Graham and know he will crush it this year, but I thought the same when he went to SEA. I will be shocked if I don’t have Olsen on my final roster, but I just cannot decide. Other players looking at: Ertz  or Kelce (avoidinG Gronk due to injury risk), really like Doyle, Kittle, Kraft and Butt.  I feel Enron can match up well with Luck, Chicago is saying Burton is going to play the Kelce role and go for total yards record for a TE. Three in Dall Goedert as I needed a 3rd one.

K; Needed one top kicker, so took Lutz. May go back to Gane, but like 2 top kickers. I believe 3 kickers are crucial.

DEF: Rams are a bit expensive, but I felt CIN for $3 and CLE for $2 were good deals who will get a few points each week.

What do you think? Suggestions?

QB - Jimmy Garoppolo - SF/11 - $12
QB - Jameis Winston - TB/5 - $10
RB - Todd Gurley - LAR/12 - $37
RB - Mark Ingram - NO/6 - $20
RB - James White - NE/11 - $9
RB - Peyton Barber - TB/5 - $8
RB - Matt Breida - SF/11 - $8
WR - Doug Baldwin - SEA/7 - $25
WR - Tyreek Hill - KC/12 - $23
WR - Chris Hogan - NE/11 - $17
WR - Marquise Goodwin - SF/11 - $13
WR - Kenny Golladay - DET/6 - $11
WR - Michael Gallup - DAL/8 - $6
TE - Trey Burton - CHI/5 - $14
TE - Eric Ebron - IND/9 - $11
TE - Dallas Goedert - PHI/9 - $4
PK - Wil Lutz - NO/6 - $5
PK - Zane Gonzalez - CLE/11 - $2
PK - Eddy Pineiro - OAK/7 - $2
TD - Los Angeles Rams - LAR/12 - $8
TD - Cincinnati Bengals - CIN/9 - $3
TD - Cleveland Browns - CLE/11 - $2

Currant iteration is taking a stab at an 18 man team....completely different than the team I started with before the pre-season games.

QB - Jameis Winston - TB/5 - $10
QB - Eli Manning - NYG/9 - $7

Jameis Winston has value if this team can get past his week 5 bye.  Based on Dodds projections he is in the same ppg range as Garoppolo, Cousins, Roethlisberger, and Stafford and within 1.5 ppg of everyone else not named Rodgers.  After Brees....all of the QB's are within 2-3 ppg.  Manning is the cheapest one I felt comfortable with and I think he will put up some monster weeks with the talent around him.

I almost went with Garoppolo, but felt the $5 saved by going with Eli was better spent on other positions and the 49ers have a week 11 bye.  If I add anyone, it will be Darnold for $3.

RB - Melvin Gordon - LAC/8 - $30
RB - Leonard Fournette - JAX/9 - $29
RB - Christian McCaffrey - CAR/4 - $26
RB - Peyton Barber - TB/5 - $8

For the longest time, I had Gurley, Kamara, and Elliot.  Having all three of those guys was too much equity at one position.  Gurley's week 12 bye was the final straw that got him kicked off the island.  Elliot's o-line isn't healthy and once I decided to take Gordon, Zeke had to go because they share the same bye week.  Fournette is projected to have the same ppg as Kamara, and since Fournette is $6 cheaper, he made the squad.  McCaffrey is the tricky one for this contest...the change in scoring for RB's to .5 ppr instead of a full point this year hurts him the most in my selected trio of studs.  But I like the volume he is getting in the pre-season and the week 4 bye week.  Mr. Jones in TB isn't getting it done in TB, so I will ride the cheap Barber train for as long as it lasts.

I almost went with Carson for the same reason as Barber, but felt like Penny was more of a threat than Jones.  I also really like Royce Freeman, but didn't really like anyone I could pair him with that I liked more than my top 3 RBs.  Maybe the answer is what I just wrote....Freeman+Carson instead of McCaffrey.  I will have to ponder that one.

WR - DeAndre Hopkins - HOU/10 - $35
WR - Tyreek Hill - KC/12 - $23
WR - Marquise Goodwin - SF/11 - $13
WR - Michael Gallup - DAL/8 - $6
WR - Chris Godwin - TB/5 - $6

I have had guys like Fitzgerald, Diggs, JuJu, Crabtree, Gordon, Edelman, Sanders, Kupp on my team at one point or another.  The only WR that hasn't changed this whole time is Goodwin.  He should be one of the highest owned in this contest.  If Hopkins can come close to last year's production he is a must own for me.  And Tyreek is a freak.  He is a perfect fit for Mahomes (who I almost took in this contest as well, but didn't like his week 12 bye for someone going with 2 qbs).  As for the lower priced guys.....so many to like or name here.  Gallup and Godwin have just as much upside as any of them and I like how their bye weeks line up my line up.

If I need to tweek any area, it will come at the expense of either Gallup or Godwin.

TE - Jimmy Graham - GB/7 - $20
TE - Trey Burton - CHI/5 - $14
TE - Dallas Goedert - PHI/9 - $4

I don't know if Jimmy will live up to the expectations in my head, but I have to think Rodgers will use him more than Seattle.  Would love to take Gronk instead, but that $6 is preventing me from doing that and also the week 11 bye.  I keep going back and forth between Burton, Doyle, Njoku, and Kittle...but mostly between Burton and Doyle.  I'm tempted to trade Jimmy for Doyle and use the $6 elsewhere....but I can't get those expectations for Jimmy out of my head.  Dallas is just insurance.  He isn't going to count often unless Ertz gets hurt.

PK - Wil Lutz - NO/6 - $5
PK - Graham Gano - CAR/4 - $5

As for kickers....I wanted two guys with early bye weeks on good offenses.  Felt like I could get away with only having two with the early bye weeks.

TD - Los Angeles Chargers - LAC/8 - $7
TD - Cleveland Browns - CLE/11 - $2

Chargers are ranked in the top 10 for sacks and turnovers.  Hope that turns into points.  The Browns are going to surprise people this year and more importantly, they are only $2 (they will also be highly owned).  I almost took the Rams, but couldn't afford them or want the week 12 bye.
I have spent way too much time on this....if you read through all that (I'm sorry) and want to leave feedback, go for it.  I will share the money with you if your suggestion puts me over the top (wait...is this binding since I wrote it?)

One of my submissions had only 18 roster spots, and I kind of liked it, but have since changed (current one is 22 spots).  I won't get into whether or not I like the players you chose, because that's a personal preference.  What I will say is that when I had a small roster, I made sure no studs had the same bye, even if they played different positions.  You have done that with McCaffrey (4), Burton (5), Lutz (6), Graham (7), Gordon (8), Fournette (9), Hopkins (10), Goodwin (11), and Hill (12).  Your first flex score, based on your roster, will likely be a RB.  Your second flex will be either Barber, Goodwin, or Burton (all decent choices).  If you choose to go minimal spots, I would prefer they all be guys with no real injury history, because it will only take a couple missed games by key players and you are toast.  Good luck

First thought is that given the scoring system and pricing of QBs it is downright negligent to not take a 3rd QB when you have Winston and Eli and your two QBs.  Your RB corps is very close to my own.  I like all your WRs individually  but overall I feel there is so much value in the cheap WRs this year that I would like probably like a couple more dart throws there.  At TE I’m not a huge fan of Graham for $20.  You can swap out Graham and Goedert and find $2 and get Gronk instead.

God help me, I love this contest!

I have an auction starting in five hours, but I’m working on this.

Today’s lineup has exactly three of the same players as my first shot at this.  All info contained for strategy and amusement only.  Lineup is likely to vary slightly from my final iteration.

QB 2 for $23.  Going light and cheap, but I like their combined schedule.  This will be the most likely position to derail me.

RB 5 for $70.  Two lower top ten-type guys, two value guys, and a backup to an injury-prone back.

WR 6 for $107.  I know there’s a ton of value at the position, and The bottom three three guys exemplify that.  But my top three are $87 total and all could possibly finish as top-5 in the league.

TE 3 for $34.  I never spend up at TE, but at 1.5 ppr. I’m not going to punt, either.  Got some guys I expect to outperform their price.

K 3 for $9.  Every time I spend two bucks on a kicker, he gets cut.  So I made the extra room.

D 2 for $7.  Like QB, I like the way the schedules mesh, so I feel good with just two.

A 21-man roster feels kind of light, and I’m one injury away from elimination.  But I usually roster 26-27 with far lesser quality (especially at WR) and that hasn’t worked for me, so here goes nothin’!

I am liking the smaller teams, but this team could lose on any given week.

I am not liking this team.  The reason is because you are basically counting on your studs every week.  FYI - none of the top finishers last year had only 4 RB's and 4 WR's.  You have no room for error.

QB - Jameis Winston - TB/5 - $10
QB - Eli Manning - NYG/9 - $7
QB - Joe Flacco - BAL/10 - $5

Think I need 3  All different bye Weeks ,Average group and could be my down fall

RB - Saquon Barkley - NYG/9 - $28
RB - Christian McCaffrey - CAR/4 - $26
RB - Royce Freeman - DEN/10 - $16
RB - Marshawn Lynch - OAK/7 - $15
RB - Peyton Barber - TB/5 - $8
RB - LeGarrette Blount - DET/6 - $6

Think its a very good group 5 of 6 should get 20 touches a game, and all different bye weeks

WR - Will Fuller - HOU/10 - $13
WR - Marquise Goodwin - SF/11 - $13
WR - Jordy Nelson - OAK/7 - $13
WR - Tyler Lockett - SEA/7 - $9
WR - Paul Richardson - WAS/4 - $9
WR - John Brown - BAL/10 - $6
WR - Dede Westbrook - JAX/9 - $5
WR - John Ross - CIN/9 - $5

Went small ball think this is the biggest value in This system, no more than 2 at a time on bye at same time

TE - Jimmy Graham - GB/7 - $20
TE - O.J. Howard - TB/5 - $11
TE - Austin Hooper - ATL/8 - $8

Love this group, all different buys

PK - Dan Bailey - DAL/8 - $4
PK - Dustin Hopkins - WAS/4 - $3
PK - Kaimi Fairbairn - HOU/10 - $2

TD - Washington Redskins - WAS/4 - $3
TD - Tampa Bay Buccaneers - TB/5 - $3
TD - Oakland Raiders - OAK/7 - $2

Last 3 years Injury's have killed me so lots more depth and value plays at 26 now, never had more the 22 in past Please give feed back if you want

Not a fan of this team at all

If you’re going to go that thin you’re better off swapping Brady/Watson for Trubisky/Dalton, dropping Perine and adding one of Gurley or A. Brown for another top level stud to carry you

The weekly cutoffs are as follows:

Week 1 trim to 13,500 teams (all advance if we have less entries)
Week 2 trim to 11,000 teams
Week 3 trim to 9,000 teams
Week 4 trim to 7,500 teams
Week 5 trim to 6,250 teams
Week 6 trim to 5,000 teams
Week 7 trim to 4,000 teams
Week 8 trim to 3,100 teams
Week 9 trim to 2,300 teams
Week 10 trim to 1,600 teams
Week 11 trim to 1,000 teams
Week 12 trim to 500 teams
Week 13 trim to 250 teams

Does anyone know how many teams were submitted last year?  I found it - it was 13,484

FYI - the first team booted scored only 52 points in week 2.  He had 11 QB's, 2 RB's, 2 WR's, 1 TE, 13 K's, and 1 D

Also, a staff member didn't make the first cut either, but I won't say who it was!

Bye week conflicts - Davante & Amari, both D's, 2 of 4 TE's, Miller & Freeman at RB, Moore & Benjamin.  Some conflicts aren't as bad, but Davante & Amari stood out to me, as well as a goose egg in week 11 for your D.

Finally "perfected" the team.

No positional bye conflicts.

No key players sharing bye except a QB/WR combo of which I'm a big fan. That's week 12 so could be bad timing.

QB -  2 upside guys and a steady vet

RB - two solid backs, two upside plays and one value pick, 1 rookie

WR - 2 steady, 2 big play, 2 rookies

TE - one stud, two with solid upside

PK - 3 guys with jobs

DEF - one I expect to be steady, one cheap which I expect to be on most rosters

so many people are taking Barkley

I'm a little concerned about the level I'm invested into the Chiefs, but I do like the value these guys hold.

23 players

qb: 3. $26. one steady vet, one second year with upside, one rookie. I dont anticipate changing this at all.

rb: 5. $89. 3 second year guys, 2 rookies. I think I'm going kind of inexperienced here but I dont really like the prices or upside of so many of the RBs out there. I like 4 of the 5 picks. I may switch out one or both of my rookies.

wr: 6. $77. 2 with top 10 upside. next 2 are value plays with upside (one is a rookie), and 2 cheap guys primed for a break out season. very excited about my top 2 and bottom 2. for my middle two... I am wavering on the rookie.

te: 3. $34 top 2 are great value with easily top 10 upside. my te3 is surprisingly such a bargain as a te1 from last year. really happy about this group.

k: 3. $11. 3 guys on very efficient and/or high scoring teams

defense: 3. $13. 1 who I think is the best. 1 who I think will surprise a lot of people. and 1 that is very cheap.

Really?  You're not gonna post your team? Come on, dude!

What players will be the most commonly owned?

My guess

QB Flacco

RB Barber

WR Brown

TE Swain?

PK Rosas?

DEF Browns

I feel fairly confident Flacco, Barber and the browns D will be very widely owned.

ha! I may after I tinker a little. at the very least itll come once the deadline passes  :)
What good is posting it AFTER the deadline?   :D

I am devoting today to really work on my submission.  I am gonna go through every player and, one by one, select my "must haves".  These may or may not be the expensive studs, just guys that I am 100% sure that I want on my team.  My first selection is Peyton Barber.  I'll keep you all posted when I select player #2, hehehe

Yes to all but the QB. I think Darnold is the most owned based off what I'm seeing from these submissions

Not sure which Brown you are referring to, so I certainly don't have him!

I have already given away one of my WRs. Most RBs I haven't changed too much. I used to have Barkley but too many people have him for my taste, so I upgraded to Hunt. Everyone has Barber, including myself.

My WR3 is perhaps the most widely owned (Goodwin). WR4 and 5 I've seen posted in here a lot as well. So I think I need to tinker with my WRs to not be as common as others.

6 of the top 11 teams last year (top 10 subscribers, plus Clayton Gray, the top staffer) averaged under $10 per receiver.   4 of those averaged under $9 per receiver. If you have enough of the "right" WR2s, you can do just fine.

Good information. As I re-tool my WRs that might come into play

ETA: In my current lineup I have 3 WR1s 3 WR2s and 1 WR3, so I do see the value. I may drop down to 2 WR1s and the rest WR2 as I retool the team. I have a lot of players everyone else seems to have and I don't want that.

Bye week conflicts - Davante & Amari, both D's, 2 of 4 TE's, Miller & Freeman at RB, Moore & Benjamin.  Some conflicts aren't as bad, but Davante & Amari stood out to me, as well as a goose egg in week 11 for your D.
KKKKHHHHAAAANNNNNN!!!!!

Totally missed that.  I don't care about the other ones, but damn I did miss the defense byes.

Historically I've built my teams in the 28-30 players range to cover for injuries.  Don't think I've ever made it past week 9 (might have gotten to week 10 one year).  Trying something different this year.

3 QBs = $21 All different bye weeks.  2 solid guys (one who I think much higher of than most anyone else) and one upside guy

4 RBs = $83 All different bye weeks.  All have potential to be RB1's in my mind with 2 guaranteed workhorses and 2 right on the cusp.

8 WRs = $89 Three WR1s with different bye weeks.  One high upside rookie who could have a few big weeks.  The remaining 4 are split between two teams - I've taken two guys from the same team (done this twice) who each have a real opportunity to lead their team in receiving and/or score receiving TDs on any given week.  It's a risky tactic but should guarantee at least 1 flex....and if either of the duo goes down to injury I'll have a potential overall WR2 the rest of the way.

3 TEs = $41 Two potential studs, one upside guy with TD potential.  All different bye weeks.

3 Ks = $7  All different bye weeks.

2 DEFs = $8

23 Total players - worst week is Week 9 where I have 7 guys out across 6 different positions including kicker and defense.

QB - Ben Roethlisberger - PIT/7 - $14
QB - Philip Rivers - LAC/8 - $13
QB - Eli Manning - NYG/9 - $7
RB - Alvin Kamara - NO/6 - $35
RB - Christian McCaffrey - CAR/4 - $26
RB - Alex Collins - BAL/10 - $21
RB - Aaron Jones - GB/7 - $9
RB - Peyton Barber - TB/5 - $8
WR - Tyreek Hill - KC/12 - $23
WR - Marquise Goodwin - SF/11 - $13
WR - Tyler Lockett - SEA/7 - $9
WR - Keelan Cole - JAX/9 - $7
WR - Chris Godwin - TB/5 - $6
WR - John Brown - BAL/10 - $6
WR - Taywan Taylor - TEN/8 - $4
WR - TreQuan Smith - NO/6 - $3
TE - Jordan Reed - WAS/4 - $16
TE - Austin Hooper - ATL/8 - $8
TE - Dallas Goedert - PHI/9 - $4
PK - Josh Lambo - JAX/9 - $3
PK - Caleb Sturgis - LAC/8 - $3
PK - Kaimi Fairbairn - HOU/10 - $2
TD - Los Angeles Chargers - LAC/8 - $7
TD - Cincinnati Bengals - CIN/9 - $3

Pros - very good distribution of bye weeks, minimal players off in weeks 10 thru 12, 3 QB's that can still put up 4000 yds and 25-30 TD's (not an Eli fan, but he does have weapons this year), 3 strong RB's, lots of WR's all on different byes (and managed to roster Hill, who I really wanted - made sure he is on a week 12 bye all alone), really wanted to carry 3 K's, 1 solid D

Cons - QB's all up in age (and I'll get squat for rushing), counting on Barber and Jones for some late season scoring, only 1 true stud WR, top TE with injury history (but I am willing to take the risk), only 2 D's instead of 3

Thoughts?

We share a lot of players

Guess since my roster is ridiculously changed since 2 hours ago (thanks everyone), may as well share some of it. I really don't want to share my QBs or TEs. As no one has mentioned some of the guys I have and I don't want to change anyone's minds or point out some awesome value people seem to be missing.

RB - Dalvin Cook - MIN/10 - $27
RB - Christian McCaffrey - CAR/4 - $26
RB - Devonta Freeman - ATL/8 - $25
RB - Aaron Jones - GB/7 - $9
RB - Peyton Barber - TB/5 - $8

Wish I could upgrade from Cook to Saquon but having trouble finding 1 dollar. I just have a feeling Cook splits time to some degree to keep him healthy. Saquon everyone owns though. Not sure I will make that move. I think Freeman is surprisingly undervalued. And I wouldn't consider myself a Freeman fan. Plus Yogi said he's supposed to win MVP, so lock that down. Jones and I have a love affair as everyone knows, but he doesn't need to be the starter or even get the bulk of the carries to have significant value in this kind of contest. I'd absolutely love to get Hunt on this team, but then I'd have to find $2. And my top RB and top WR would share a bye.

WR - Tyreek Hill - KC/12 - $23
WR - Nelson Agholor - PHI/9 - $13
WR - Marquise Goodwin - SF/11 - $13
WR - Tyler Lockett - SEA/7 - $9
WR - Michael Gallup - DAL/8 - $6
WR - Chris Godwin - TB/5 - $6
WR - John Ross - CIN/9 - $5

This is my tinkered WR group at this point. A lot of names that everyone else has. Hill is a must for me. I had Fitzgerald, and I want him back on my team, but I can't find the money for him without sacrificing depth. I feel like there's a lot of riskier picks in this group and I'm not sure I like it. But, I like how the bye weeks work.

I'm likely taking out either Goodwin or Agholor and going with 2 cheaper WRs. Everyone has Goodwin so I may drop him, whereas Agholor has equal upside IMO.

Any major changes I make will be in these groups and at the expense of these groups. So If I want to upgrade my WR2 then I would likely be deviating from Freeman. I just don't like much below Freeman (except Mixon but that doesn't give me much wiggle room) unless I get to the other Freeman at $16, which I am not sure I want to trust any of these rookies not named Saquon. Michel is tempting at $10 given the amount of production that comes out of the NE backfield as a total. Not as my RB3 though.

My current biggest decision is trying to decide whether to drop my $3 9th WR to upgrade my 3 cheap defenses. Otherwise, I'm pretty locked in--until the next injury makes me re-work it all.

QB - Joe Flacco - BAL/10 - $5
QB - Sam Darnold - NYJ/11 - $3

RB - Lamar Miller - HOU/10 - $18
RB - Carlos Hyde - CLE/11 - $14
RB - Chris Carson - SEA/7 - $11
RB - Peyton Barber - TB/5 - $8
WR - Davante Adams - GB/7 - $29
WR - Amari Cooper - OAK/7 - $23
WR - D.J. Moore - CAR/4 - $11

Can you please post your QBs/TEs when lineups lock so I can see what the super secret is?

Not really super secret, just looking at statistics and found a few guys who were lower than I thought they should have been. Mostly it's my TE3 I think should be the same price as my TE1. I feel like TE is an important position to get right to have any shot this year due to 1.5 PPR

My QB combo may change based on the QBBC stuff I have read today, but I like the 3 I have. I'm sure I'll post my entire final roster once they all lock.
