2020 (now 2021) Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Closing ceremonies 8/8 | USA finishes with most gold, silver, bronze AND overall medals (2 Viewers)

That guy who crashed into the long jump pit and got carted off made me laugh just a littlet. i know i’m not supposed to, but that oooof sound he made when he face planted had me and the mrs. chuckling.  almost as much as the woke commercial telling me the wnba will become more popular than the nba, as if the nba’s popularity is somehow an offence against all women.

That was hilarious.

Did he get wheelchaired off due to embarrassment?

I mean, it's just sand...

I always enjoy the football players would dominate if they wanted part of the program. Meanwhile, mediocre college basketball players become hall of fame football players.

I am very confident that there are many more olympians who would become great football players than football players that would be great Olympians.

Nelly Korda catching fire, with the potential for the tournament to end after tomorrows round today becomes moving day. world number 1 and usa olympian nelly just took a 1 stroke lead and has 9 more holes to go today

Ashliegh Johnson with 14 saves through three quarters. The women’s Olympic water polo record is 19. She had 15 through three in their last game but got pulled in the fourth during a blowout.

Eta, they took her out again <_<

Men’s shot put was fantastic with the two US giants taking gold and silver. Ryan Crouser had already clinched the gold medal then crushed his own Olympic record on his last throw. Silver medalist also broke the old OR.

Different half, different team.

USA playing D, hitting 3s,

Booker stepping up.

Not all Durant.

Up by 19 going into the 4th

the USA Mens 4x100 sure was a cluster######

Carl Lewis would seem to agree:

The USA team did everything wrong in the men's relay. The passing system is wrong, athletes running the wrong legs, and it was clear that there was no leadership. It was a total embarrassment, and completely unacceptable for a USA team to look worse than the AAU kids I saw .

David Taylor with a very late blast double to prove why he's the Magicman just won a gold medal!

WE ARE....

olympic champions!

it's been 20 years since the men's 4x100 relay team has won gold.  Twenty years?  All those track stars and all that speed. Shocking

The exchange that blew the race looked like it was the first time those guys ever worked together. Seems to be coaching instead of the athletes.  How many times did they practice before hand?

"Ok guys... who wants to run in which leg?  Speak up, we only have 20 minutes until gun."

To be fair, when you did a relay race in grade school, you would wait until you had the baton before running.

Watching some men's field hockey.

Looks pretty lame all hunched over running around.

Why isn't lacrosse in the Olympics?

Just looked it up, looks like they're trying to be included in the 2028 LA Games.

Trying to avoid spoilers, but NBC doesn’t have the Slovenia-France bball replay up yet. So annoying. I was reading the other day that in Australia and Canada you can watch any event live or on replay without any sort of subscription. MUST BE NICE

Yeah, no kidding.

Just finished watching a 7 minute highlights clip from the game on the NBC Sports Olympic app.

But no full game replay that I can see.

ETA I thought I found it.  It said 'France vs Slovenia mens basketball, but when I played it I got Womens table tennis.

Oy.

NBC coverage is absolutely horrible. They don't show what they  say is to be playing on any of their channels. I just quit watching & following altogether.

On the Canadian coverage they said the Americans spend most of their time on their individual events and rarely work on the relay. The Canadians moved DeGrasse to the anchor leg on the day of the relay. He had won the gold in the 200m about 16 hours prior, so he said he would do what he could to not let the other guys down.

I did not know this:

At the Tokyo Olympics, American athletes will receive $37,500 for each gold medal, $22,500 for each silver medal and $15,000 for each bronze medal, according to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee (USOPC).

sorry if this is a Honda

San Marino sent five athletes to the Olympics this year. Three of them won medals; two in Trap Shooting and one in Wrestling. They finish their campaign with one Silver and two Bronze.

Historic Games for the country with just 33,600 inhabitants.

The wrestler was actually an American, but I can not blame him for wrestling for his roots - his weight class is (and has been) stacked in the US for years.

Men's 50k walk is about to start - no spoilers please.  This will be the last time this event takes place at the Olympics.  In Rio  2016, over 30 of the 80 participants did not finish (typical numbers), and many of those who finished or dropped out needed immediate medical attention.  The early race leader in 2016, Yohann Diniz, opened a huge solo gap early and was lapping stragglers by 15k, but then stopped at a water station for over a minute.  The following pack caught him shortly thereafter when fell over backwards on the street, requiring medical attention. He resumed walking a minute later, but stopped several more times and ended up finishing 8th. There is typically over a one hour gap between the race winner and the last finisher in the 50k.  There will be excrement on the track and vomitting during and after the race. There are no US competitors in the 50k. There is no women's 50k walk.  I think its the most brutal event at the summer Olympics.  GL to all the heroic competitors in this epic race today.

edit - meant to specify, Diniz is the current world record holder, but is not competing this year.

Watching this one on the NBC Sports Channel.

Thanks for the tip.
