How's Ruggs year 1 compare to Lamb year 1 tho?Tyreek Hill rookie year

Tyreek Hill year 3
87-1,479-12
Seems like a lot of people think Ruggs should have been year 3 Tyreek Hill in his rookie year. The Ruggs pick sucks now, but it has nothing to do with football.
Ok Lamb had a better rookie year. Ruggs brought something really important to this offense and was looking really good this year. We will never be able to make career comparisons now. I do not agree with saying the Ruggs pick was awful from a football perspective and it was actually looking like a very good pick IMO.How's Ruggs year 1 compare to Lamb year 1 tho?
Ok if you project out Ruggs numbers this year for 16 games they would have beenmy main issue with the tyreek/ruggs comparison is they're not even close to the same player. the only similarity is speed.
and @ICON211 why leave out year 2? 75/1183/7

He was developing into more than just a speed WR. Sometimes it takes a little time for a WR to develop especially with no rookie offseason.

agreed. he was heading in the right direction. i have always thought the tyreek comparisons were way off base. pointless discussion now. but cd or jj should have been the pick.Ok if you project out Ruggs numbers this year for 16 games they would have been

agree with the djax comp. totally disagree about ruggs hands being better than most nfl wrs. you got that on lock, from all 50 catches of his career?Prime DJax is the better Ruggs comp due to body type, but Ruggs was able to track and adjust to deep balls as well as both of them and had better hands than Tyreek. Yup, he did. If you know what to look for, you'd see it too. Ruggs had better hands than most NFL WRs, including even your precious, infallible CD Lamb.
(I still think Lamb is the better overall WR, and should've been the pick. But that didn't make Ruggs a bad pick. The 2021 wrath of the Universe upon the Raiders did.)
At the time I wanted CD, but as it was playing out I was more than fine with Ruggs till last week. Jefferson was never even a consideration for me or most other people.agreed. he was heading in the right direction. i have always thought the tyreek comparisons were way off base. pointless discussion now. but cd or jj should have been the pick.![]()
agreed. i was becoming ok with the pick. so not far behind you.At the time I wanted CD, but as it was playing out I was more than fine with Ruggs till last week. Jefferson was never even a consideration for me or most other people.

Ditto, would have preferred CD, but Ruggs on-field performance was greatly improved this year.At the time I wanted CD, but as it was playing out I was more than fine with Ruggs till last week. Jefferson was never even a consideration for me or most other people.
It does seem contradictory. Gruden improved the team this season but he wasn’t capable of drafting enough impact players to build the team into a SB contender. You cannot miss on so many early round picks and ever have a roster to compete with the stacked rosters of the elite teams.Gruden was never going to gather enough talent but they are only a couple players away? Seems contradictory.
I hated the Ruggs pick more than most but he did serve a role in the O. Using a first round pick to fill that role seemed silly but Ruggs was playing much better this season.Ditto, would have preferred CD, but Ruggs on-field performance was greatly improved this year.
The consensus was Lamb/Jeudy as 1A and 1B based on preference with Ruggs right behind them as #3 as the top tier guys. Everyone else was considered second tier. Ruggs was considered top tier which is why I say big 3.You’re right about Jefferson. But stop with the big 3. There was CD and JJ. And then everyone else. Maybe ruggs was 1b.
I don't find that concerning at all. That is Mayock. He will always err on the side of taking responsibility rather than kicking it off to someone else. He is just that high character guy which is why he wants guys like that. He eats, sleeps and breathes being an upstanding person even if he is a little rough on the edges (I use to love that about watching him on NFL Network because he was more genuine than most who are on TV) and his taking blame seemed to be about checking on the character. I tried to figure out if he was saying that there was something known back then that they missed or if they just clearly in hindsight missed it. I was not clear on that from the statements I read.I am too. Although I'm a little concerned when Mayock said in his latest press conference that he takes full credit (blame) for the Arnette pick. Now, he could just be saying this as to not to kick Gruden when he's down but no matter what I'm sure Gruden had some input in the draft pick. I'm hoping a Mayock draft with full autonomy will make more sense.
Yea, this makes me want to kick myself because I made several mental notes to talk about the O-line from the game. They are not the best in the league but it is very clear that they have made huge strides. James absolutely does seem to be growing into the role. Leatherwood is playing much better at G right now (I do hope he can make the move back out to T after some seasoning though). Parker is not embarrassing himself.Doom and gloom. Rodney Hudson. Blah blah blah.
ETA: 2018 Raiders rookie class includes 3/5 of the starting OL. All five starting OL are home-grown Gruden/Mayock players. It hasn't been the greatest unit this season, but it has been ascending.
I think we have a good chance for playoffs this year and don't need to look ahead. I think this game with the Giants was going to be rough. Losing Ruggs on top of Gruden, I felt like that was going to impact the team in a much different way than Gruden. It is a little in the rearview now. The Chefs are suppose to be dangerous and I don't want to discount them but my goodness they have been playing poorly. Hopefully they don't find themselves again against us but if they continue on the trend they have been, it should be a win. Yes, we have a rough schedule after that but I think this team will come back and fight. Carr will not play like he did against the Giants and other than Carr there was no real huge deficiency in the game other than feeling like the offense was missing Ruggs speed. With DeSean in the fold some speed has been added back and hopefully that helps that. We are a dangerous team here and now.Gruden set this team back a year or two but the future is bright now that he is gone. The Raiders were never going to win a SB under Gruden and winning SBs is all that matters. Gruden was never going to gather enough talent and in the competitive NFL, you must have talent. You also need lucky breaks such as health and even favorable officiating or not getting screwed by refs which seems to a weekly occurrence in the NFL.
No matter what happens this season, the Raiders should be a playoff team in 2022 with the addition of just a couple of players. Not so long ago, the cupboard was bare when Mack and Cooper were discarded for future peanuts.
- Mr Doom and Gloom.
We will never know now about would or could have been with Ruggs. Clearly though, he developed and was an effective weapon. His presence on the field helped the entire offense. It wasn't as a decoy either as his 19.5 yard average was clearly a weapon that defenses had to account for or they would get beat badly. There is no doubt in my mind that helped everyone else from Waller to Edwards and Renfrow to the running backs.
Now he is gone. We brought DeSean on board that will hopefully help. DeSean in his prime was not as fast as Ruggs but he still seems to have some left in him and he has a lot of veteran experience.
) Yea, I don't think we will see DJax supplant Zay in the X role. I think he will take snaps away from Zay but not send Zay back to the same snap count as before. His snaps will likely be a few and increased a bit each game but then my guess for high point of percentage, barring injuries to other players, will be around 30-40%. Zay has a 19.3 average on catches. He played almost all snaps last game and had 2 targets. I think he will continue to get the bulk of the snaps and DJax will be used to as a supplement to him.I like DJax's talent, but have zero faith in his body to remain upright for more than a couple games of significant usage. Hope I am wrong, but also hope they'll continue to heavily incorporate ZayJ as another field stretcher - both to limit the wear on DJax and also to get Zay into a better rhythm and feel for the offense and Carr, in case (for when) DJax goes down.
(Also would not mind kicking some OBJ tires, now that he's cleared waivers.)
My narrative has been changing all year as he made strides in the right direction. Read my post, literally just above yours that I’m quoting here.Yup. Saw enough of his technique and effectiveness at the catch point to know the kid had it. Injuries and Covid rookiness did him in last year. This year, the breakout was just beginning to take steam. This narrative you've been peddling for a while now that Ruggs was just a speed guy is tired and fully disproven in my eyes.
Would CD have been the better pick? Sure. Was Ruggs a bad pick? Not until last week. Not even close. Quite the opposite, actually.
I think Odell likes to improvise, which doesn't fit in well with Raider's offense.Odell is very interesting, but based on how Carr spreads the ball around he's not really a good fit IMO.
He likes to improvise, he wants to be the focus of an offense and he has temper tantrums that make a 2 year old blush.I think Odell likes to improvise, which doesn't fit in well with Raider's offense.
coincidence?Hogan has appeared in eight total games in the NFL with one start for the Cleveland Browns in 2017. He’s also spent time with the Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Football Team, Denver Broncos and Cincinnati Bengals.
Crap.... losing Philon sucks. If is good we have Hankins back. Square has flashed and Vickers has proven serviceable rotation in the past. Jeffersom and especially Thomas will have to provide the punch.Raiders placed DT Darius Philon on the Reserve/Injured list, signed DT Kendal Vickers and signed WR Jeff Badet to the practice squad.
Ateman reverted to the practice squad as well.
I rostered Ruggs in dynasty and watched him intently before I traded him this year, two weeks before the tragedy. He had really, really good hands. He was starting to put it together. He wasn't Tyreek, because Tyreek is shifty and quick, whereas Ruggs's speed was long speed. Tyreek looks like a joystick is controlling him out there. So does DJax. Their lateral movement is off the charts, something Ruggs lacked. That's why Ruggs never excelled as a KR in either the pros or in college. He wasn't a great open field runner. His speed was straight line. But he was fleet as heck and had really good hands that plucked the ball out of the air. He was also good at contested catches, able to pinpoint, track, and then high point the ball.Yup.

Best thing in football is being sble to pressure the QB without needing to blitz. You will win a lot of games if you can rush 4 consistently and still make life unfun for the thrower. Now, the Chiefs are playing better defenses than they did the first month of the season. But we’re talking defenses that rank #10, 15 and 16.
This week, they must face the #14 Raiders defense.
And it’s a defense that generates a ton of pressure despite having the lowest blitz rate in the NFL.
On early downs the Raiders have a 10% blitz rate, which is, by far, the lowest in the NFL. No other team is below 14% and the average is 22% blitz rate.
But the Raiders pressure the quarterback on 37% of his dropbacks. That is, by far, the highest in the NFL. No other team is above 34% and the average is 28%.
Most teams that have successfully slowed down the Chiefs over the last month have adjusted their defense to rarely blitz Patrick Mahomes and play a 2-high shell defense.
The Raiders don’t have to adjust the blitz rate element at all.
The closest team to where the Raiders sit with no-blitz, steady-pressure is the Titans, even though the Raiders are substantially better. And we saw what happened in that Titans game.

Andy Reid said Mike Remmers (knee) & Lucas Niang (ribs) are out for Sunday's game against the Raiders. Andrew Wylie is the expected right tackle.
