Looks like as usual a crap load of small rosters.

As a 23-player team, this makes me feel a bit better about surviving the bye weeks... but a bit worse about surviving UNTIL the bye weeks.

Thanx, you are verified. Best of luck.

What's the $100 bonus, I must've missed those posts.
Joe offered a $100 bonus to anyone who posted their lineup 48 hours prior to the contest closing and didn't change it. Oh yeah, you only get the bonus if you finish in the top 250. So far, we have 27 verified rosters, and I'm waiting to see 17 others.

Great point! By the time bye weeks start in week 6, the field will have less than half the entries. I assume the smaller rosters will survive at a decent rate until bye weeks start.

I like big rosters with some high-end players and few mid-range guys. An empty roster slot might save me $3 that I can use to upgrade elsewhere, but I'd generally rather have a Velus Jones, Jeff Wilson, Kyle Rudolph, or Cardinals defense who has a chance to contribute each week rather than a slightly better player elsewhere. The top players are the difference makers who can have a huge game & a huge season, so I don't want to skimp on them. So I generally avoid the middling starters who drain your budget with little chance of coming up big; a pretty good rule of thumb is "Don't pay more than $10 except for shots at elite production" (especially at WR & TE).

I did a bit worse than usual at sticking to this barbell strategy, since the higher prices made it harder. I have one empty spot on my roster (with 29 players) and just 2 studs. At least they're big ones (McCaffrey & J Jefferson), and I think my mid-range players are at least potential studs.

Here's my roster (previously posted here for the supplemental contest), with ownership percentages and comparisons to my typical build (my average roster 2015-21) and others' typical build (the average roster 2015-21, data here).

QB: 3 for $27
(my typical build: 3.0 for $26)
(others' typical build: 2.8 for $34)
14.7% Trey Lance - SF/9 - $15
6.4% Jared Goff - DET/6 - $9
9.7% Kenny Pickett - PIT/9 - $3

Went with 3, not too expensive, all stacked (w Kittle, Jameson Williams, & Pickens). Pickett for just $3 is one of the 4 gimmes this year, IMO, and he comes auto-stacked with Pickens. I like Lance's rushing & Goff's late-season schedule. I avoided the heavily owned Carr & Cousins. Was tempted to pay up for Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson, but don't like their tough late schedules (for them or their stack partners).

RB: 5 for $67
(my typical build: 4.7 for $81)
(others' typical build: 5.3 for $83)
5.7% Christian McCaffrey - CAR/13 - $37
22.0% Chase Edmonds - MIA/11 - $14
59.3% Dameon Pierce - HOU/6 - $10
14.3% Jeff Wilson - SF/9 - $3
6.2% Zack Moss - BUF/7 - $3

1. Start with the obvious value plays: just Dameon Pierce this year.
2. Add a stud or two - I used to like two, but in recent years I've preferred just 1 here because they're just so pricy for their scoring. CMC has the best chance at a huge season, and modest ownership, so I decided I was willing to live with his price, injury risk, and late bye. Lots of top RBs carry a lot of risk, mostly from injury (Harris, Henry, Cook, Barkley), and/or I don't love their chances at a huge season.
3. Check out the cheapest guys who are likely to be involved, or 1 injury away: Jeff Wilson & Zack moss for $3 each. A few others were on my radar, but were really not that cheap considering that they'd probably need an injury to pan out (e.g. $5 for Boston Scott, $6 for Zamir White, $8 for Rachaad White).
4. Fill out the position to be good enough. Decided to go with one of the midrange guys who is a pretty good value, Edmonds, even though I mostly avoid that type. Seemed better than paying up for another stud or adding not-so-cheap cheap guys. Also strongly considered R Stevenson & C Akers.

WR: 11 for $106
(my typical build: 9.1 for $80)
(others' typical build: 6.2 for $84)
15.2% Justin Jefferson - MIN/7 - $35
21.6% JuJu Smith-Schuster - KC/8 - $15
7.7% Elijah Moore - NYJ/10 - $13
2.2% Jameson Williams - DET/6 - $7
31.9% George Pickens - PIT/9 - $6
12.0% Josh Palmer - LAC/8 - $6
16.9% Isaiah McKenzie - BUF/7 - $6
2.3% Zay Jones - JAX/11 - $5
7.7% WanDale Robinson - NYG/9 - $5
20.5% Romeo Doubs - GB/14 - $5
1.3% Velus Jones - CHI/14 - $3

I got one of my 2 studs here, and threw numbers at it to take advantage of best ball. Fewer $3-4 options than usual, so mainly collected $5-$6 guys which drained some money from my budget, but still worth it IMO. WanDale joins Pierce, Pickens, & Pickett as one of the 4 must-owns, IMO, though he joins Pickett at being below 10% ownership. Most of the other cheapish guys here seem like fairly obvious values to me. Lots of rookies, which is good for late-season upside. Late-season upside & low ownership is about all that Jameson Williams offers, but he comes through big on both for only $7, and that makes him great for stacking since the point of stacks is distinctive upside in the championship round. I pivoted to him late in the contest; before that I'd been planning to stack ARSB and/or Chark with Goff. Both of my mid-price guys have a chance of hitting big, with JJSS potentially being Mahomes's WR1 & Elijah Moore as a possible yr2 ascending talent.

TE: 3 for $29
(my typical build: 4.3 for $44)
(others' typical build: 2.5 for $29)
7.0% George Kittle - SF/9 - $18
6.6% Gerald Everett - LAC/8 - $8
5.4% Kyle Rudolph - TB/11 - $3

Just a not-too-expensive cheap trio, since I generally like WRs more than TEs this year at their prices. Kittle offers elite upside and stacks with Lance. With late news of his groin injury I was tempted to split him up into Okwuegbunam + Njoku, but held firm. Everett is neck-and-neck with those two for my favorite value at TE; I went with Everett because he has a slightly cheaper price, a non-week-9 bye, and lower ownership. I like Taysom Hill's profile more than Rudolph's, but wasn't able to come up with the extra $2. Kelce & Andrews are good TE options too; I nearly went with one of them instead of Jefferson.

PK: 3 for $9
(my typical build: 3.9 for $9)
(others' typical build: 2.2 for $9)
8.3% Graham Gano - NYG/9 - $3
46.2% Rodrigo Blankenship - IND/14 - $3
7.3% Greg Zuerlein - NYJ/10 - $3

Three cheap ones. I wanted 3 or 4. $3 for a player who I expect to start 4 or 5 weeks is pretty good.

DEF: 4 for $12
(my typical build: 4.3 for $10)
(others' typical build: 2.3 for $11)
12.5% Minnesota Vikings - MIN/7 - $3
5.3% Detroit Lions - DET/6 - $3
6.6% Arizona Cardinals - ARI/13 - $3
8.7% Tennessee Titans - TEN/6 - $3

Four cheap ones. Detroit is the worst team of the bunch, but has three weak opponents in wk15-17 rather than just one. Spike weeks for defenses made me prioritize a 4th defense over a 4th kicker. Sad about the lack of $2 options, which in past years have let me assemble a huge batch of defenses for below-average spending.

Average ownership: 13.5%
Lowest owned players: Velus Jones (1.3%), Jameson Williams (2.2%), Zay Jones (2.3%)

Here's my roster, with ownership percentages and comparisons to my typical build (my average roster 2015-21) and others' typical build (the average roster 2015-21, data here).
Great writing, and thanx for some old data. Sucks that we can no longer go back and see rosters from previous years.

Might just get to 225 in the finale given that ties with the cut line advance as well so that should add a couple folks as we go.

My method is to pick 3 QB's, 3 TE's, 3DEF, 3Kickers. That's a pretty solid rule. Then Its variable but generally 7 WR and 5 RB. I don't worry about what % of money I put into each except my kickers and def are always the lowest priced ones available.

Then I pick all the players I like and see how far over budget i am and start substituting. I usually end up with middle to lower QB's, a couple of stud WR and RB's, but usually not the very top tier guys. and definitely take lower tier TE's.

I then check the forum to see which obvious bargain guy I overlooked or wasn't aware of and may add that person or not. I try to see If I picked any recently injured guys (which I have done before) or guys I forgot were on long recovery from a previous injury or any suspensions or unsure depth chart stuff - basically trying to not have wasted budget.

Then that's basically it except I throw it by my son to see if he has any comments on guys and If he does, then I start second guessing myself

Doing it this way has allowed me to never come close to winning. Earliest exit probably week 3, latest exit probably 10 or 11.

Just a tad over an hour left. I have managed to keep my TE-heavy roster this long and am in the running for Joe's $100. Besides having only 2 K's and D's, any glaring holes?

QB - Kirk Cousins - MIN/7 - $14
QB - Derek Carr - LV/6 - $13
RB - Saquon Barkley - NYG/9 - $26
RB - Chase Edmonds - MIA/11 - $14
RB - Dameon Pierce - HOU/6 - $10

WR - Christian Kirk - JAX/11 - $16

TE - Travis Kelce - KC/8 - $30
TE - Mark Andrews - BAL/10 - $28
TE - Kyle Pitts - ATL/14 - $24
PK - Austin Seibert - DET/6 - $3
PK - Rodrigo Blankenship - IND/14 - $3
TD - Minnesota Vikings - MIN/7 - $3
TD - Arizona Cardinals - ARI/13 - $3
You know I like this roster. The TE room is top shelf. My only nit would be rostering JuJu and Kelce. That could work out but I would have went with one or the other, not both and found a way to add a WR.

You owe me a link to your team! And yes, almost went Renfrow vs Juju, but decided it's OK because Kelce/Juju are my only week 8 byes.

Something I had done previous years but didn't do this year is check my players strength of schedule and adjust off that. Can't hurt. Have made finals only once.

Contest Scoring Sheet (will be testing all through week 1) - If you see any issues let me know -

Complete ownership data is now here, based on the cvs link, and have added it to my 2015-22 ownership spreadsheet.

Here's everyone over 15%:
59.3% RB Dameon Pierce $10
46.2% PK Rodrigo Blankenship $3
34.9% WR Courtland Sutton $19
31.9% WR George Pickens $6
27.1% QB Derek Carr $13
22.6% DEF San Francisco 49ers $4
22.5% QB Kirk Cousins $14
22.5% RB Rhamondre Stevenson $15
22.0% RB Chase Edmonds $14
21.6% WR JuJu Smith-Schuster $15
21.1% RB Saquon Barkley $26
20.5% WR Romeo Doubs $5
20.4% WR Allen Lazard $12
18.4% RB A.J. Dillon $20
17.7% DEF Green Bay Packers $4
17.1% DEF Baltimore Ravens $4
16.9% WR Amon-Ra St. Brown $17
16.9% WR Isaiah McKenzie $6
16.6% QB Jalen Hurts $19
15.4% TE Dallas Goedert $15
15.3% WR Hunter Renfrow $15
15.2% WR Justin Jefferson $35

My previous lists were missing the Niners defense.

The average team roster construction is
QB: 2.6 for $35 (last year was 2.9 for $35)
RB: 5.0 for $81 (last year was 5.2 for $84)
WR: 6.1 for $86 (last year was 6.4 for $82)
TE: 2.4 for $30 (last year was 2.5 for $32)
PK: 2.1 for $9 (last year was 2.2 for $8)
DEF: 2.1 for $9 (last year was 2.3 for $9)
total: 20.3 for $250 (last year was 21.4 for $250)

So smaller than last year at every position, presumably due to the pricing (no $2 players and fewer cheap players). You can compare with previous years here. 2019, when pricing was similar, is the last time that rosters were this small; usually the average size is over 21.

Feeling a little better about not switching off of Allen on the last day....

(btw @Mister CIA it never really played out that way in the roster construction as far as doing a stack goes - would have slotted Davis in because of the week 7 bye $ room made by Allen. Mileage varies of course.)
