2022 FBG Subscriber Contest is ON - Update - 1st place is $10k + $5k to food bank of their choice (2 Viewers)

Here's the new prize structure. Listened to the feedback from y'all and went an additional 125 places deeper this year with prizes.

1st Place: $10,000 + $5,000 Donation in your name to a Food Bank in the city of your choice
2nd Place: $5,000
3rd Place: $2,000
4th Place: $1,000
5th Place: $600
6th place: $300
7th place: $100
8th place - 225th Place: One year Footballguys PRO level Premium Subscription
Enjoy this contest and excited to splash around building some roosters.
Makes sense to include value of next year membership including a free entry next year as part of the prize structure. Good way to manage cash flow.
Charity donation is wonderful! Knowing @TheWinz will help sustain a local food bank brings warm and fuzzies.

I'm sure this has been talked about a lot, but I was not a fan of last years cut line. You have a contest that so many people love to play...so much so, that it's a big reason why people keep coming back. 50% of the people were out after week 1 and each week after that. By the end of week 2, 3/4 of the contestants were out. It left a bad taste in my mouth when I was knocked out after one week. I'm hoping the cut line looks more like in the past which keeps more subscribers in the contest longer. When people have fun, they are more likely keep coming back.

Can you folks elaborate on this? What exactly you didn't like and what you would prefer so @Contest Turk can see. We'll obviously never please everyone but we want to hear what you think. @menobrown @matuski @KingPrawn @Maggot Brain @steelcityman @JoeSteeler @TheWinz @Dacomish and others.
For some reason, I thought someone had posted the cutoffs from last year which basically dis-proved the perception that people had before last year started that the cutoffs would end up being radically different / more punative.....but then I'm too lazy to do the actual leg work.

From @TheWinz

Last year's cutoffs were:

Week 1 - from 9767 to 7326 (2441 cut)
Week 2 - from 7326 to 5495 (1831 cut)
Week 3 - from 5495 to 4122 (1373 cut)
Week 4 - from 4122 to 3092 (1030 cut)
Week 5 - from 3092 to 2319 (773 cut)
Week 6 - from 2319 to 1740 (579 cut)
Week 7 - from 1740 to 1305 (435 cut)
Week 8 - from 1305 to 979 (326 cut)
Week 9 - from 979 to 735 (244 cut)
Week 10 - from 735 to 552 (183 cut)
Week 11 - from 552 to 414 (138 cut)
Week 12 - from 414 to 311 (103 cut)
Week 13 - from 311 to 234 (77 cut)
Week 14 - from 234 to 176 (58 cut)
Week 15 - Finals begin

@HairySasquatch I'm not following when you say last year 3/4 of the field was gone after Week 2. Can you elaborate?

I liked it alot last year, I have had 2 times I have made the final but for some reason the % cutoff was way more fun last year. I think the 50% was a bit of an over sell there as I quoted the rules from last year and @TheWinz posted the cutoffs. Not everyone is gonna be happy if they go out week 1 or week 13, it is what it is. There have been times I personally have got bounced week 6 so its not like some do well every year. At least with the % there are no free rides per say and every week counts.

Plus @kyter1 put together a live scoring of sorts that we were able to see that made it fun.

My 2c is we keep it like last year as you had suggested earlier (and I love the new prizes plan!).

What about something like:

10% for the first 5 weeks, then 25% for the next 5 weeks, then 50% after that.
Last year we started with 9767, any of you math wizards able to figure out how the cutoff for what Joe is proposing would work if we used that with those numbers as an example?

I am mathematically challenged to say the least....

Thank your for asking.

My only issue was the cut-off percentage changes which I just felt was cutting to many teams to early. That is all.

That would get us down to about 85 at the end.

I'm leaning toward this:

weeks 1--3: 10%
weeks 4--7: 20%
weeks 8--12: 30%
weeks 13--14: 50%

A typical number of entries is about 13,000. Given that many, the finals would have 235 survivors.

What are your folks thoughts on the $5,000 to the Food Bank where the winner gets to pick the city? I am unsure how that will go over.
Truly a great idea, Joe. I honestly don't even know where the closest one is to my house, but now I am determined to find out.

Awesome. This seems like a fun thing and something lots of people can get behind. And so I’m clear, the winner gets to pick the city and then I will have final say on which food bank. I know you wouldn’t do this, but I just want to make sure that the money goes to a legit place. I think this will be a lot of fun. And I think it be really cool if it’s a small town, that way $5000 could make a real impact. And also, it doesn’t have to be where you currently live. Its an area that the winner wants to help.

If we start with 10,000 entries, it would look like this:

Week 1 - from 10000 to 9000 (cut 1000)
Week 2 - from 9000 to 8100 (cut 900)
Week 3 - from 8100 to 7290 (cut 810)
Week 4 - from 7290 to 6561 (cut 729)
Week 5 - from 6561 to 5905 (cut 656)
Week 6 - from 5905 to 4429 (cut 1476)
Week 7 - from 4429 to 3322 (cut 1107)
Week 8 - from 3322 to 2491 (cut 831)
Week 9 - from 2491 to 1868 (cut 623)
Week 10 - from 1868 to 1401 (cut 467)
Week 11 - from 1401 to 700 (cut 701)
Week 12 - from 700 to 350 (cut 350)
Week 13 - from 350 to 175 (cut 175)
Week 14 - from 175 to 87 (cut 88)

Doesn't work. Based on Joe's new payout, at least 225 entries should make the final.

Just wanted to say the food bank thing is a great idea. I think most people would be willing to take less of a prize for this cause. Also think it makes sense that you choose/vet the food bank, though we obviously would like to think the winner would have good intentions.

Also wanted to say thanks for doing this every year. As if the consolidation of perhaps the best fantasy football intel in the industry isn't enough for our dollar, the fun of this contest alone is probably worth the subscription for many.

Maybe 10% for five weeks, 20% for five weeks, 40% for four weeks? 10,000 entrants would end us at 250 remaining.

Edit: If 250 is still too few with close to everybody winning something, you could change the last four weeks to a 35% cut and remain with 345 entrants.

You guys are making it more difficult then it needs to be...

You do percentages until week 10 or 11 or 12 lets say and then after it becomes set numbers...
So working backwards you do something like:
Week 15: 225 Left...
Week 14: 450 Left..
Week 13: 900 Left
Before week 13 you use percentages...

Or something to that effect.

But you can do this with any amount... and then you don't have to worry what the entry number is for it to work out...

Yes, you should have final say, otherwise I will start a Food Bank at my house!

NO GUARANTEE, but I'm hoping for a link in this thread by tomorrow morning.

As always, it'll be posted here before anywhere else.
You have no idea how much work productivity will go down over the next week while we all start our first of many, many iterations......

It's almost here fellas.......🏈🏈

Absolutely love it. You are a good man, @Joe Bryant . A buddy of mine from college passed away last week at the age of 51 after a 5 year battle with a rare genetic kidney cancer, leaving behind a wife and 3 daughters.

We buried him this past weekend, and one of the main themes he lived his life by, and taught his daughters, was "Be a help". The out pouring of love and seeing how many people he touched was amazing, and I love to see things like this. Thanks Joe, for being a help.

Dude. I'm so sorry. And that's way too kind a thing to say there. But fully agree - try to be a help.

First entry

QB - Three for $32
RB - Eight for $86
WR - Seven for $74
TE - Four for $40
PK - Three for $9
DST - Three for $9

Definitely prefer more WR and less RB, but this was just my go through the list and pick players I liked at cost.

Also note that I did not even read the rules, which I will probably do.

So, the revised percentage cut lines, will you consider avoiding all together players on teams with bye weeks 13 and 14?

13 - Carolina and Arizona
14 - Atlanta, Chicago, Green Bay, Indianapolis, New Orleans and Washington

Let's just use 10K as the starting number of entries...
Week 1: from 10000 to 9000 (cut 1000)
Week 2: from 9000 to 8100 (cut 900)
Week 3: from 8100 to 7290 (cut 810)
Week 4: from 7290 to 5832 (cut 1458)
Week 5: from 5832 to 4666 (cut 1166)
Week 6: from 4666 to 3733 (cut 933)
Week 7: from 3733 to 2986 (cut 747)
Week 8: from 2986 to 2090 (cut 896)
Week 9: from 2090 to 1463 (cut 627)
Week 10: from 1463 to 1024 (cut 439)
Week 11: from 1024 to 717 (cut 307)
Week 12: from 717 to 502 (cut 215)
Week 13: from 502 to 301 (cut 201)
Week 14: from 301 to 181 (cut 120)

So, if the number of entries is low, a large portion of eliminated teams will still receive a free entry next year.

@HairySasquatch I'm not following when you say last year 3/4 of the field was gone after Week 2. Can you elaborate?
I thought it was 50% cut line which would make 75% gone after two weeks.....I was wrong. It was 25%. My memory was blinded by getting knocked out week 1.

I would think that, given the previously discussed legal issues with not allowing us foreigners to come in and steal your prize pool, they you can at least say either that when I win I can at least ship the 5k to my local food bank, or at least whoever wins the rest of the prizes is strongly suggested to respect my wishes?
