@Joe Bryant
A total of 52 posters submitted a legal lineup before your extra $100 deadline. Now the fun will be seeing how many of those 52 can keep themselves from making any changes. Reminder: DO NOT EDIT the post that has your roster in it. Here are the posters and page number (in order of most recent):

Changed back to the Page 9 Roster.... although I like parts of the more recent roster better....

QB - Justin Herbert - LAC/8 - $23
QB - Jared Goff - DET/6 - $9

RB - Travis Etienne - JAX/11 - $22
RB - Rhamondre Stevenson - NE/10 - $15
RB - Dameon Pierce - HOU/6 - $10
RB - Brian Robinson - WAS/14 - $7

WR - Justin Jefferson - MIN/7 - $35
WR - Michael Thomas - NO/14 - $20
WR - Courtland Sutton - DEN/9 - $19
WR - Christian Kirk - JAX/11 - $16
WR - Kenny Golladay - NYG/9 - $11
WR - D.J. Chark - DET/6 - $7
WR - Romeo Doubs - GB/14 - $5

TE - Cole Kmet - CHI/14 - $14
TE - Hunter Henry - NE/10 - $12
TE - Evan Engram - JAX/11 - $9

PK - Dustin Hopkins - LAC/8 - $5
PK - Randy Bullock - TEN/6 - $4

TD - San Francisco 49ers - SF/9 - $4
TD - Detroit Lions - DET/6 - $3
I'm liking these Herbert rosters because I don't think very many people will pick him.

On the other hand, I faded Sutton which may or may not work out. He seems like a top 5 owned player based on the early returns. I just think Jeudy is the better WR but ended up picking no Broncos.

The high octane Offenses of AFC West will result in some serious scoring for the QBs.... I considered Carr and Mills as a cheaper option.
I also like Cousins with the new staff.... (?) O'connel giving more passing opportunities for Offense.

If I truly wanted to change my roster and forego Joe's extra $100 offer, I would do it in a heartbeat. That's why I am trying to talk myself into liking the one I posted on time.
I am torn! I mean it is all a guess.... how well educated is up for debate ... but WAG's none the less!

There's nothing to be torn about. This is like being offered a chopped pot and still getting to play for the whole pot.

This will be my first year doing the contest and first time doing anything like this format.

Yes. Based on your avatar, you need at least 1 Bengal! Welcome to the contest, and hopefully you make it far.

Looks super solid to me. One Bengal with Boyd too 🐅The RB core is definitely unique but I like the mix.

Here are 10 of my favorite potentially overlooked WRs who haven't come up much in this thread & aren't on my roster:

$13 - D Smith PHI
$11 - K Toney NYG
$10 - M Valdes-Scantling KC
$9 - M Gallup DAL
$6 - J Tolbert DAL
$5 - C Watson GB
$5 - D Bell CLE
$5 - S Shepard NYG
$5 - D Peoples-Jones CLE
$3 - C Wilson MIA

Promising 2nd year guys: DeVonta Smith & Kadarius Toney. If you want high-end production without a high-end price, one of your best chances at finding it is to pick an emerging star. These 1st round picks, coming off a promising rookie year, are pretty good bets. And if they don't take the leap they can still be solid and not too expensive. Toney has more injury/bust risk but the upside is still there, and it's still fairly likely that he at least hits the mid-range scenario. Smith has a harder path to elite production because of target competition, but even if he'd need an injury to really hit big it's not *that* unlikely that either Brown or Goedert misses time.

Rookies: Jalen Tolbert, Christian Watson, David Bell. Rookies generally have more uncertainty, which includes more upside. And they often win bigger roles later in the season, which is great for this contest. Watson & Bell both missed some time this offseason, which might slow their development a bit but also keeps them under the radar. All 3 have some potential talent as day 2 picks, and they aren't stuck behind target hogs or great WR trios who would keep them on the bench even if they're good. Tolbert & Watson both have great quarterbacks, and Bell is also likely to be in a productive passing offense late in the season.

Injured vets: Gallup & Shepard. If they're back to form by midseason, and have reestablished their previous roles (or better), then these could both be very solid contributors as the cuts get tougher & fortunes are made. Gallup is a better player on a better offense, but Shepard is cheaper & looks like he'll be back on the field sooner.

Cheap starters: Donovan Peoples-Jones & Cedrick Wilson. DPJ is his team's WR2 or WR3, Wilson his team's WR3. $3-$5 for a guy who is likely to regularly be on the field is not bad. DPJ is a bit pricier than Wilson, but also younger (more chance at taking another step), surrounded by less receiving talent, and will probably be on a more productive passing offense late in the season.

A piece of an elite offense: Valdes-Scantling (and many of the others also fit this category). Mahomes is real good, and it's unclear how things will shake out in his WR corps. So there's potential for all four KC WRs, and IMO they're all reasonable options in this contest. Right now it looks like JJSS & MVS will play the most snaps, which has led to a lot of chatter around JuJu but not so much for Marquez, who makes this list as the most overlooked of the four.

A few of these guys did make Stray Doug's Bargain Hunting list, and many have been on a posted roster here or there, but they all seem underrepresented relative to what they offer.

Great post! Lemme add a few more:
$14 - DeAndre Hopkins - Dead money until week 7, but what if I said he was gonna be WR8 from weeks 7 thru 17? Would that be so hard to believe, considering in the last 5 years he has finished WR1, WR1, WR4, and WR5? Sure, it takes nards to knowingly handicap your team for the first 6 weeks while the field gets dwindled down to only 37%, but I don't see anyone his price or lower who has a reasonable shot at mid-level WR1 status.
$13 - I also agree that Devonta Smith is the best option for his price. I am a bit hesitant of Hurts, but look at the QB's for the other $13 guys.
$12 - Allen Lazard is too common, so I will say Russell Gage. He was getting hyped up until Julio came to town, and Godwin started healing. The chatter has quieted down, so I figured I would mention him again.
$11 - Tyler Boyd - There's enough to go around in CIN for 3 WR's. No reason he can't repeat last year with 67/828/5.
$10 - Marvin Jones - Believe it or not, his 2 highest reception total years have come since he turned 30. Why not 70+ for a 3rd year in a row?

1. I've used the "take *all* the Patriots RBs and relax" approach for years in this contest, but I don't recall it ever really working out. The best ball format should allow this approach to outwit the tight-lipped Bill Belichick, right? Better rooster construction to plant a flag on one of them? I'm not so sure, when I could combine the salary into Mixon plus a buck.

2. At what point, do we fade D. Pierce? He is such an unquestioned, obvious bargain that he appears on literally every roster I have seen posted here. I faded Gus Edwards last year, to great effect. Pierce has a great opportunity here, and little obvious competition for touches, but he's still an unproven rookie on a team that is not expected to be running out the clock with lead very often this season.

Apologies if these topics were discussed earlier in the thread, I've been working my way through the posts like crazy, but can't seem to catch up to you roster tinkerers. :loco:

I will try to answer them one at a time, starting with the easy one.
Dameon will either be worth his $10, or he won't, but it will have nothing to do with his commonality. Don't overthink it. For every player you choose in this contest, it doesn't matter how rare or common they are - only how they perform.

This one made me think a bit. Cooper Kupp is $36, Justin Jefferson is $35, and Ja'Marr Chase is $35, but...
You could own all 6 of GB's WR's for only $34. Hmmm?
Allen Lazard - $12
Randall Cobb - $5
Romeo Doubs - $5
Christian Watson - $5
Sammy Watkins - $4
Amari Rodgers - $3

Part of the fun of the contest is seeing the progress (or lack of) for teams with the most popular guys. Cannot remember the player (I do think it was a Texans RB) that ended up on 247 of 250 finalists or something crazy (he was like $3).

I forget all the similar guys who flamed out though and became roster paperweights. Though it is also funny to look at the guys who do zilch but have a high survivorship percentage of owners due to their expert cheering from the sidelines :)

But I agree with Wins - picking players who score the most is always the best strategy commonality be danged

Thank you! and Who Dey!!!

Here are 10 of my favorite potentially overlooked WRs who haven't come up much in this thread & aren't on my roster:
I love all these. Marvin Jones was on my roster until near the end. Hopkins is on my roster. Of ZWK's list, I love DeVante Smith (also on my roster until near the end) and PeoplesJones (my WR6...a WR2 for $5 (!!)). I also toyed with Gallup...but I'm not sure about the receptions distribution for this years Cowboys. I'm sure most people also gave a lot of consideration to Lazard, Boyd, MVS and Shepard.

Been sitting on this one for 24 hours, but I have two questions

:loco:
The concern with Harris/RS is that you have to part with $31 to cover most of the backfield action, and you also have to wonder if Montgomery and/or Strong might get significant carries. As a rabid Pats homer, it was difficult for me to resist the temptation of any Patriots RB/WR/TEs....this year I "only" have the Pats defense which is a huge personal development milestone, lol.

Pierce is a solid value play at $10 as he seems destined for north of 250 carries. I think the only reason not to have him is if you are trying to do something different with your roster overall. I, for example, went stud RB and have four RBs each costing at least $18, so there's simply no room for Pierce.

I will let my friend answer this question - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kf04zlExM8c

In the spirit of ZWK's undervalued / not mentioned much WRs not on my roster...here's a similar take on RBs....

A EkelerLACRB8$34
J MixonCINRB10$30
D SwiftDETRB6$29
A JonesGBRB14$27
R PennySEARB11$15
N HinesINDRB14$13

R MostertMIARB11$8
D WilliamsATLRB14$6
B ScottPHIRB7$5

Obviously (?) the first 4 are under-hyped top tier players, the middle 5 are presumed losers of carry distribution battles, and the bottom 3 are a mixed bag of injury protection with some chance for touch upside.

This will be my first year doing the contest and first time doing anything like this format.
This is what I ended up with, no conflicting bye weeks per positional group, $250 spent. Is there anything you guys can critique/recommend changing?

Welcome aboard.

First comment is that I'm not a huge 3 QB fan. For what you spent on Ryan/Goff I think you could have had a really good QB or dropped one and upgraded Higbee to a stud TE. Is the incremental difference Ryan adds going to offset jumping from Higbee to someone like Andrews?

Funny thing is I was just coming here to post about RBs. My downfall most years has been the RB position. I usually do what you did and avoid paying up for a stud. I just can't keep myself from saying what happens if (insert stud RB here) gets hurt? All these guys seem like great picks when you imagine them getting most of the touches but then the seasons starts and you say wtf was I thinking? Also the scoring is much more friendly for TEs and usually WRs too, so the $/expected point is usually better spent there. However you then look at the weekly score and some guy with Taylor has hung a score bigger than your two best backs.

Anyone else struggle with RB selection?

Well, I couldn't hold out and had to tweak my rooster...I'm out on the $100 side bet :(. Just couldn't resign myself to the uncertainty about Juju's recurring knee issue. Did a lot of researching and just couldn't come up with anything definitive....which was concerning. Like an itch I just couldn't scratch.

So Juju's out and Bateman is in,....for now. Now my bye week correlation is screwed and I won't get crap done today because of course that trickled down to other positions. He'll probably be fine and I'm seeing ghosts (man, but I REALLY had a good feeling about him and Mahomes), but there are too many other similar guys to choose from for me to risk it.

At least that's what I'll tell myself if he explodes this year.
This contest can be a real pain sometimes.

Anyone else struggle with RB selection?

Absolutely. The scoring system leads you to want to pay up for TE and have 8 WRs because value, which makes it challenging to justify stud RBs / makes it easy to rationalize moving down the RB price curve. Popular player injury and under-performance then lead to confirmation bias which re-enforces the dynamic. I don't always go stud RB heavy....but if I think I can get away with doing it, that's what I'm going to do.

Apparently you can't teach old dogs new tricks and I'm stuck in decades old stud RB theory.

What an awesome and intelligent way to sum up what I rambled about.

The first half of this post is me nearly every year. I always load up on "yeah but..." guys it seems. I like to think that for once I avoided the $3 or $4 receiver that is "promising" but does nothing but I am sure I will be cursing Braxton Berrios tonight.

Actually going to trivia night tonight so I probably be staying in Joe's $100 Pepsi challenge though there is still time for me to swap out Allen for Burrow and then Mixon for a different RB and sneaking Chris Evans onto my team as player 26 but the first time I tried that I ended up with way too much bye money on week 8.

On a side note Week 8 might be the most interesting bye of the year with only 2 teams but those teams being LAC and KC

here's a similar take on RBs...
I'll work from the bottom up...
$3 - It's hard to shy away from Jeff Wilson here. I think his path to significant touches is the easiest of all $3 options
$4 - I would've said Mike Davis until Kenyan Drake showed up. Now, my $4 pick is Chris Evans, who may surpass Perine as Mixon's true backup
$5 - There were only 2 RB's last year who had 50+ carries and over 6 YPC. Dontrell Hilliard was one of them.
$6 - I have shifted from Eno to Zamir. LV can list him 4th on their depth chart all they want.
$7 - You can't keep a good man down. Brian Robinson and his cheap price may be worth the wait.
$8 - Jerick McKinnon was on his way to stardom, until he tore his ACL. Can he surpass CEH in touches?
$9 - Alexander Mattison is only 24 with basically 1 workhorse year's worth of touches. He could carry a load.
I will stop at $9, because the $10 choice is too easy.

The question is do you really expect whoever starts for NE to outscore Mixon, Henry, Swift, Cook or some of the other guys going in the $30 range on a weekly basis? You may outwit BB's "name the starter" game (although it wouldn't be a shock if he still finds a way to start one of the other RBs on his roster), but you have no guarantee that "starter" is going to get RB1 touches. If they share carries, having two guys who score 11 points won't help you as much as having one $30 guy who scores 20.

The prize Joe offered for finishing in the top 250 trumps every prize in the contest under 6th place. Short of late injury or suspension, I don't see any scenario where it's +EV to change your rooster.
This x100000

ive noodled my roster, sorry, rooster so many times over the past few weeks, at this point I’d just be changing for change’s sake. Not worth it since I’m sure it won’t actually be “better”, just “different”. so I’m easily resisting the urge and sticking with the lineup I posted. Good luck everyone!

Barbell approach of a few studs on one side, with dart throws on the other. Hopefully I'll make the playoffs again but who knows. I think all the chatter about a 50/50 split has taken the luster off Hall, but I think his talent could win out by the end of the season, as Michael Carter is not as good as Melvin Gordon.

Well, I done and twerked my rooster again. :oldunsure:

I’ll post up a final at the 11th hour before the rooster locks. Back up to 21, I believe. Maybe it’s 20.

Either way, it’s rather lean rooster.

I've got 2 of them.
