i'm not arguing that gruden was or wasn't targeted.  i have zero sympathy for him.  he did it to himself.  i have been fired for doing stupid ####.  i don't have any sympathy for myself either.  i was an idiot.  i do feel that the raiders were collateral damage in gruden's email fiasco.  i don't think they were targeted.  just my opinion.  not shared by most.   :shrug:   gruden may have been targeted (i don't think he's very well liked by some)

regardless of the intent, the outcome was a positive one for the raiders.  i don't think that is conflating the two.  aawtfdik.

i disagree that gruden is a high level offensive coach.  he's a dinosaur.  he was plenty questionable to me.

i think carr will receive possibly the best coaching of his life now.  dude has been through a TON of garbage OC's/HC's.

Wasn't McDaniels OC when Brady was hurt and they still kept the team winning with guys like Cassel? The offense was solid with a rookie last year too. I was likely the loudest against McDaniels but the one thing I never questioned is his ability to run an offense. Assuming he is going to be taking a very involved approach and the weapons that Carr will have (best ever by far), I have no concerns about Carr other than the Oline keeping him upright.

Providing Adams, Renfrow and Waller remain healthy the receiving corps on all levels should be amazing. I just wonder if anyone can step up if one of the top three go down (no concerns at RB as they have multiple options with good receiving ability out of the backfield).

Zay did a bit but can't track a ball over his shoulder to save his life. Edwards showed up big late a few times but was always preceded by 3.7 quarters of absence. Doesn't matter because they're gone.

Moreau got a five game opportunity and was almost entirely a non-factor.

I am really curious if there is a guy in there who can earn a larger role. Even better if it isn't in a "next man up" situation.

I was probably the one leading the push for McDaniels. I understand his bonafide, but things change when you leave New England.

I'm very optimistic about the upside of this team in 2022 but I'm also a fatalist (optalist? foptamist?) so I'll believe it when it happens and not a moment sooner.

We will see a significant less amount of 3 WR sets this year. Last year was at 62% in 11 personnel while NE was 56%. NE ran 21 personnel 23% of the time versus 8% for us (though we did do more early in the year, unsure if the decline was Gruden's departure or Ingold getting injured or both.) McDaniels loves his FB which is very much against the grain for the league. Interestingly, there was not a lot of double TE packages last year even though Hunter Henry and Jonnu Smith. It makes me lower my hopes for seeing more Waller/Moreau packages than we have seen in the past. 

Robinson has flourished in pretty much that exact type of role with KC. Hollins has some upside and Cole has done some good things in the past. Johnson has the speed to kill.

Interested in reading what they have to say about the targets (I will read the article later)

You have an interesting definition of "flourish".

97 career games, of those he has received a target in 68 games (looks like he didn't see the field as a wr as a rookie). Of those 68 games, he had a monster 6 catch 172 yard, 2 TD game. After that he has broken 60 yards three times, 50 yards twice & 40 yards five times. Oh, wait I missed a 1 catch, 89 yard TD game.

In games where he has received a target he has finished under 30 yards, 35 times (11 games between 30 & 39 yards).

In 13 games he wasn't able to generate a target.

He had plenty of opportunity to emerge as the #3 or even #4 receiving option in KC and he barely made it happen once. He has been out-targeted by guys like Mecole, Albert Wilson, Chris Conley & Byron Pringle, not a murderer's row of receiving talent. Watkins had/has talent so it's no shame not beating him, I guess.

Where's the flourish?

63% career catch percentage on scraps as the sixth option is solid. 

Flourish may have been a stronger word than intended but I am looking at a guy that has been the 6th option in an offense that was 56% about two guys. 

You seem to think that what I was saying is he will be out third WR and that is not what I think, I think he will be a role player just as he was in KC amd played his role well. 

I think all of those guys will be role players. I don't expect to see any one of them getting tons of snaps unless someone gets hurt. Did he flourish as the sixth option? Yea, I think that is fair to say as much as anyone will flourish in an offense as the sixth option. 

 
For an end of the bench guy, he's got more juice after the catch than the guys we've had.

But really, anyone not named Davante, Hunter or Waller is an afterthought. For real.

Yeah, looking at the full list of rostered WRs after Adams/Renfrow, I’m feeling really good when reminded that Robinson is on the roster as our WR3. I think he does well in a supporting role and will hopefully provide consistency and reliability. 
i don’t have high hopes for anyone else on that list of WRs, but believe that Moreau can be a reliable contributor in a supporting role with a healthy Waller on the field. 

a lineup for Jacobs/Adams/Waller/Renfrow/Moreau

or

Jacobs/Adams/Waller/Renfrow/Robinson

or even swap out Jacobs for Drake,

And, jeez..

I’m not concerned about the 5th-6th pass catching option.  I think hollins will surprise. 

my concern is the oline  and as always, the D.  Really bummed they didn’t/couldn’t add bradberry.  Especially after seeing the details. 7.5M  with 2.5 in incentives.  

suh would be a nice add.

Luv this post. Suh would be a huge get if he buys into this team and provides leadership and gritt for the D, along with Maxx and Jones. Health permitting of course with seniority, but this dude was built like an ox. I think he's got several productive years in him still. Would be an awesome ending for him to help the Silver & Black return to glory before riding sunset. And that ending could still be 2-3 yrs away.

I saw a tweet that was like "Imagine Myles, Clowney and Suh... wow"

And I was thinking the more wow would be Crosby, Jones and Suh. 

 
Speed at WR probably isn't a huge need ATM and I know Chad is stumping for Will Fuller but TY Hilton is still out there too.  A hundred years ago he ran a 4.34 (Fuller ran 4.32), he has a 15.4 Y/R on his career (Fuller is 14.7) and he has played in 143 of 160 career games (Fuller has played in 55 of 96).

Hilton is 32, almost exactly three years younger than Desean Jackson who led the league in Y/R in his age 32 season.

Obviously not a priority but worth considering if speed is on McDaniels mind even a little bit.

I don't know for sure but I think Hilton has lost a step. But I am all for competent speed to be added. Fuller just looks the best available to me. 

 
When asked which stadiums were the loudest, Joe Burrow answered Arrowhead and Las Vegas.  Happy to hear that the home field advantage is still strong for the Silver and Black.

The Dolphin game last year was pretty loud. Absolutely more opposing fans than you would have seen in Oakland so a bit louder than I would have liked when we were on offense but on defense, it got loud and there was plenty more seats to be filled.

One year is too small of a sample size. Probably a lot of people missed the game because of Covid vaccine requirements. Anyway the prices for this year are already crazy.

The Raiders also have multiple entries among the top 10 selling games of the season so far.

The New Year’s Day match up against the San Francisco 49ers at Allegiant Stadium is the most expensive ticket with an average selling price of $777. The Raiders’ Oct. 2 game against the Denver Broncos is the second most expensive ticket at $555. The Houston Texans’ visit to Las Vegas is fifth on the list at $404 and the Raiders’ game at L.A. Rams is sixth at $399.

HTF is the Texans game more expensive than the Rams game?

I don't like any of the numbers in that article because they suggest fans of the opposition are going to make Las Vegas games destination events. The Raiders need to make Allegiant their house and lock it down. Unfortunately that is unlikely in that town even after they win the Super Bowl this season.

Complete control of the Doomba will always be impossible due to the blocks of seats owned by and distributed by casinos. That said, when the Raiders are competitive, I'd bet it'll typically be 75-90% Raiders fans and they will drown out the interlopers.

 
I personally love this problem of having a state of the art, revenue generating stadiums in a vacation destination town, over the previous ####hole of a stadium in a town that the city leadership seemed to want to force out at every turn. 
LOVING the marriage of the Raiders and Vegas.

Agree 100%

Even with a noticeable amount of empty seats and a noticeable amount of opposing fans... that place van get rocking loud with tons of energy. 

Absolutely better than the open sewer pit in a city that was not enticing to travel to. I am hopeful to another game this year.

I have a lot of sorting to do with my life but my guess is that the Readers Digest version is that is all depends on Leatherwood. 
 

Miller is solid at LT. 

James developed from one of, if not the worse Center in the league to at least better than average. Huge strides over the season. I expect him to win Center. 

Good is back healthy. He is best at G and most time spent at RG. I think he is the best G we have on the roster now. Slot him there. 

So, LG and RT. 

Leatherwood should be given every opportunity to win the RT in camp. If he does then it is a bloodbath comp to fill out that LG position. If he doesn't then it really muddy's the waters because they will look at him for G but then the big question is who is the RT. I think the most likely candidates to fill the spot would be: Parker, Bars or moving Good outside. Long shot with Munford. If Good moves outside, then you have two G spots to fill but it should be much easier to fill. Simpson, Bars, Leatherwood and Parham being strong possibilities for those two spots then. But going back to Leatherwood, if he is good at RT, then I think Good is RG and then you figure out the best LG from Simpson, Bars and Parham but the competition being open to all really. @massraidercan respond on how far off or on I am but that is my thinking.

I would like to say... in terms of staff... that so far there seems to be nothing of what I was concerned with when it comes to McDaniels. It is early but I am hopeful his previous mistakes were actually maturity issues and not character issues. 

I have never taken away from his technical prowess, so that is something that is further hopeful. That being said, there are many instances of very good coordinators who were/are unable to translate that into being a good HC. 

Mick Lombardi doesn't have a track record to really dig into but regardless, McDaniels will run his offense and call the plays. Lombardi is more of an assistant. Similar to Olson to Gruden last year. 

Outside of Edgar Bennett, which was a smart move to retain, I don't know any of the offensive staff enough to say anything one way or another. 

Since Patrick Graham was announced and spending time to learn about him, I have been more and more impressed and looking forward to what he does with this defense. 

Antonio Pierce (as a LB) and Rob Ryan are the only other defensive staff that I am aware of. 

The hallmark of both the offense and the defense should adaptability and flexibility.

(Please no responses about Gruden or Ryan.... I am looking at you @DA RAIDERS) 

And yes... I am bored.... my mortgage loan pipeline has dried up.

Jesus, I guess I'll wait for 2024 before I even think about getting to a game (not that it's realistic with travel to the US right now anyway)

 
The prices right now are stupid. They’ll go down. The schedule just came out and people are planning their vacation to Vegas. Most people want everything in place for vacation. They’re not willing to wait until they get to Vegas or until game day.  Prices will normalize. 

 
Boston Sports Journal's Greg Bedard reports there's a "high-level of concern" about what's going on with the Patriots' offense.

Patriots players have been "alarmed" with what they've seen from the team's offensive coaching staff and lack of direction on offense, according to Bedard. The Patriots haven't named an offensive coordinator since Josh McDaniels' departure, with the expectation Joe Judge or ex-Lions HC Matt Patricia will be the offensive play caller. Neither coach is known for offense. Judge's background is in special teams while Patricia's is in defense. Judge, a former college quarterback that spent 2019 as the Patriots' WR coach, is the likely favorite for the role. Judge said at the team's minicamp he plans to work closely with second-year QB Mac Jones. 😆

Yeah, it probably will, but I can't justify planning anything involving a transatlantic flight on the assumption prices will drop. That, and Vegas hotel prices over a game day weekend will be eye watering
