2022 Las Vegas Raiders (3 Viewers)

Raiders sign former Patriots receiver Isaiah Zuber

Just under the wire for training camp, Josh McDaniels nabbed another familiar face. His name is Isaiah Zuber and he spent the better part of the past two years in New England under McDaniels.

Zuber went undrafted out of Mississippi State in 2020 and was signed by the Patriots. Following camp, he was signed to the practice squad where he remained all that season and was elevated four times, with four touches for 50 yards.

He would return for the 2021 offseason and training camp, but was waived in the final cuts and signed onto the 49ers practice squad. From there he spent time on the practice squads of the Browns and Jets.

This offseason he was drafted in the 13th round by the USFL’s Houston Gamblers where his five touchdown reception led the league.

Prior to transferring to Miss St as a fifth year senior, the 6-0, 190-pounder had consecutive 50-catch season at Kansas State totaling 1129 receiving yards with nine touchdowns. He also returned 12 kicks for 189 yards.

He joins the likes of RB Brandon Bolden, FB Jakob Johnson, and QB Jarrett Stidham as former Patriots players reuniting with McDaniels in Las Vegas.

I don't think there's any big moves,,barring an injury.

Frankly, with the ability to roll over unused salary cap, I think they cap space might be more useful next year.

For a second consecutive day the Raiders signed a former USFL player. Today they announced they have added Isiah “Ike” Brown ahead of the start to camp. This after adding WR Isaiah Zuber on Tuesday.

Brown recently played with the New Orleans Breakers where he had two interceptions, one returned for a touchdown.

The former undrafted free agent out of Florida International originally signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2020 before being placed on the reserve/retired list during training camp.

Along with the addition of Brown, the Raiders announced the release of veteran safety Dallin Leavitt and the waiving of guard Jordan Meredith.

Leavitt had announced his release earlier in the day on this instagram page, thanking the team with which he spent the past four seasons.

Raiders OL Denzelle Good has agreed to a reworked contract. He was previously due a base salary of $3.09M, which was reduced to $1.035M, with the chance to earn $425K via incentives. Good is returning from a torn ACL suffered in Week 1 last season.

Another $1.6 MM freed up.

Drake cleared to practice for TC day 1. Here're some excerpts from an article on The Athletic documenting his rehab... Sounds promising, notwithstanding the disclaimers about the general severity of this injury. Hoping Drake can get back to full form this season...

Just over seven years before his injury with the Raiders, he suffered a broken fibula in his left leg and fractured and dislocated his left ankle during his junior season at Alabama. Dr. Norman Waldrop conducted the surgery to repair the damage, and Drake was back on the field less than a year later. The night he broke his ankle, he had his agent reach out to Waldrop once again. ...

The surgery was a success. ... Still, there were no guarantees Drake would return to form. Given he has severe structural damage in both ankles, it could negatively affect his ability to play — permanently.
“When you have the type of injury that Kenyan had, it can be career-altering,” Waldrop said. “And I always tell everybody that all broken ankles aren’t the same, but Kenyan had severe ankle injuries on both sides. They weren’t just your run-of-the-mill broken ankles; they were pretty severe. … And some players, especially running backs, who rely on explosiveness, you never know if they’ll be able to get it all back. My expectation is somewhere in the five- to six-month range, maybe even a little longer to be fully explosive.

“The advantage that Kenyan had is that he’d been through it. ... He’s as motivated as anybody I know, in terms of rehab. He wants to do it right. He doesn’t cut corners. And I think that’s why he did so well the first time. He knew that if he did that again this time, he would be able to get it back. ... He is, to date, hitting every single metric you could possibly ask for from an orthopedic standpoint.”
Drake said... “Even to this day, it’s still sore. You wake up in the morning, and sometimes it doesn’t feel right. And it never will be because it’s not going to be the same exact ankle that I had before the injury. ...

“I have to do my routine where I put it in an ice bucket or I do massage or needling and things like that to alleviate the issues that would be from the effects of the high volume. I’m feeling as close to 100 percent as I have since the injury, which is important because every day you just want to get better. I look forward to starting this camp with the capacity that I can do.” ...

“It’s going to continue to get better and continue to get more natural,” Drake said. “Am I there yet? I mean, no. That’s to be expected, but we have the preseason to work through. It’s four games and really six weeks until the actual season starts. I’m excited about the progress I’ve made, and I’m going to be ready by the time Week 1 rolls around.”

After spending Thursday at Raiders camp, Yahoo! Sports’ Charles Robinson expects new coach Josh McDaniels to use a “situational committee” at running back.

Josh Jacobs is back as the starter, but this doesn’t sound like a situation where he’ll be leaned on for 20-plus carries per game like he was under old coaches Jon Gruden and especially Rich Bisaccia. The new regime already planted its flag by declining Jacobs’ 2023 option before signing Ameer Abdullah and Brandon Bolden and then drafting Zamir White and Brittain Brown. Kenyan Drake is also back. Not all six backs are going to make the team. Robinson even goes as far to say the position could be completely overhauled after 2022. Jacobs is a scary RB2 pick in fantasy.

I can see why.  I just drove through Vegas for the first time since they moved there.  The stadium looks amazing, and it's right next to the strip, and right across the street from the new big kids center.  The first thing I said to the family was "we've gotta come here for a game".  I would say the same thing to my group of old college buddies.  It's brilliant to have a team there.

And Vegas will probably do right by them as Las Vegas might be the best managed city in the world.  The area's water allotments were set 100 years ago when Vegas had a population of 3,000 and they are still able to run that city today with over 2 million people.  The population has doubled over the last 20 years and their water usage has actually gone DOWN by 26%.

Flew in last year for a broker convention but really for my it was about the Raider game vs Dolphins.

All around great experience. The only downside is the walk from Mandalay Bay to the stadium and back but it isn't that big of a deal. They even have a water station mid point. I went with the COVID vaccination requirement and that was handled well.

The stadium tour is worth the money too.

I was a hige proponent of leaving Oakland. First choice for me was LA but only if they had their own stadium. When that wasn't going to happen Vegas was the ONLY logical choice and it is awesome.

It is a much more family friendly experience in Vegas than Oakland (oddly enough) and even if there are many more opposing fans than use to be in Oakland, it is a much better home filed advantage. Plus, it isn't a total embarrassment of sewage and a baseball field.

All the years of NE and going out and stacking RB after RB when you had Jacobs and Drake tells me... duh. (Not to you but to our friend Charles).

Been saying tthat. Jacobs is the lead but there will be lots of carries handed out. Some games someone will be the focus maybe even over a healthy Jacobs and the next that player won't get a single carry. It will be based on gameplan. Whoever doesn't make the roster will be PS (unless they poop it in camp) and the lower end of the group likely rotate some off and on and back with the PS guys.

Who do you think takes on the pass catching role of James White ,who got great numbers in NE .  His best years came during Brady’s final two seasons in New England, when the receiving corps was thinned by poor drafting, with White averaging 1,042 total yards and nine touchdowns in 2018-19 while hauling in a combined 159 passes.

Drake im assuming ?

They can Void K Drakes contract after this season and J Jacobs is on the last year of his.

For pass catchers after that, it's Ameer Abdulluh because Z White had 17 rec's total in college.

RBBC. for everything. I think J McDaniels isn't going to limit run/pass plays with who's on the field

or the formation they are in.

Drake has to be the favorite but Bolden did some heavy lifting last year at NE in the passing game. Abdullah showed some ability as well in his career and I think Jacobs is under rated as a pass catcher but Drake and Bolden have to be expected in that role. I love Drakes upside in that kind of role.

Camp battle I’m ready to watch play out is the DBs. I’ve been seeing a lot of pre-pre season hype about Averett. His snap counts in Baltimore doubled last season due to injuries at his position and according to reports, he played well and held his own against WR1s. Best case senario, they snagged an ascending talent on the cheap. It’s possible the starting outside CBs week 1 could be him and Rock Ya-Sin

Team currently has 10 CBs, 11 if you included Mullen (on PUP).

Saw this blurb on The Edge: "NBC's Peter King reports that Raiders OL Alex Leatherwood is "trailing" in his attempt to win the starting right tackle job against Brandon Parker."

Well duh. AL needs to be moved to guard to have a chance at success in the league.

DENZELLE GOODT, UNSIGNED FREE AGENT

Denzelle Good retired from the NFL after seven seasons.

A Week 1 ACL tear knocked Good out for the season last year. Now 31 years old, Good is calling it a career. Good entered the NFL as a seventh-round pick for the Colts in 2015. He started 43 games in total. Good was likely going to start at right guard this year, further weakening an already depleted offensive line.

That sucks.

i had him in an idp league last year.  i think he will surprise people

So... the chances of Parham playing hos rookie year just increased greatly.

Simpson and Cotton will be in the mix for sure. Cotton has been getting buzz in camp.

That OL issue is concerning.   Leatherwood doesn’t seem able to play RT but can play guard well enough.  Where is the RT?
The prize for winning the job is Khalil Mack week 1. Lord help us!

I'm hoping the Week 1 RT is not currently on the roster.  I thought there was a decent chance it ended up being Good until yesterday and I really hope it's not Parker.  Maybe someone decent gets cut closer to the season that they can sign.  There are also older guys like Duane Brown and Jason Peters out there.

For me, a lot of getting that Oline together rested on Good. He had a proven a ability to play RG very well and RT at a good level too. Now the whole rightside is a question.

I also think that a large part of Leatherwood struggles at RT was that he had someone struggling next to him at RG just as much as he was.

This is a huge blow to our season. We really need to invest some of that money into help unless they have seen some amazing things in camp.

agreed.  and LW probably isn't the answer.  they need to go get some one to shore up that line.  the money they have been saving needs to go to the OL way more than to suh
