Dame to the Bucks.
Woohoo as a Bucks fan! I appreciate everything Holiday has done but to get a talent like Dame its so worth taking a shot.
I'm not totally sure this makes the Bucks better. They are swapping one of the best defensive guards in the league for one of the worst. Lillard also has sat out a lot of games the last few years, though some of those were certainly related to the Blazers tanking. Giannis wanted this though so the Bucks had to do it.
As a Bucks fans the hope is what Dame adds offensively has a great impact that what Jrue's loss will be on defense. Absolutely love Jrue but the Bucks needed more shooters and Dame is one of the best in the game. This team has had 2 disappointing playoff exits after 2021 so I don't mind them shaking things up and that they did. If it makes Giannis happy that's even better.

I don't think 2022 was a bad or disappointing exit at all. Down one of your best players and you lost in 7 to the eastern conference champs.
I wish I felt the same but I don't. The Heat had injuries too and the Bucks blew multiple 4th quarter leads that series. The Heat, especially Butler played well but as the #1 seed it's disappointing losing a 1st round series 4-1.

We aren't talking about the same series.

I don't think Ayton's contract will be too much of a problem for Portland. His deal will expire right as Scoot & Shaedon's extensions kick in. The effort issues have been well documented, but this guy was an important contributor to a Finals team just two years ago - not a bad reclamation project.
I think it's perfect for him. No expectations on a 20-30 win team for the next couple years

I think they'll also be able to spin Jrue for a large return down the rosd and will wind up a solid return for Portland long term. Id take Jrue heads up over Dame if I'm trying to win a championship. It will always be a livid memory to me of him absolutely roasting Dame in the playoffs with OKC. Was a massacre.

I don't think Milwaukee got better  Dame will get you clicks, Jrue will get you wins :excited:

Nice trade for the bucks. To be honest, have we heard anything from Dames camp about this? I'm looking all over and haven't seen anything about him being happy with the move (he should be, I would think, but who knows how players feel).

Wonder if Miami gets into a deal with the blazers for Jrue bc he would fit well there or if there is too much ego in the way of that deal happenning?

Again, would have liked to see Dame in the building, but even without him Miami will continue on. We do need a point guard I think...

Bowie, Oden, Ayton

Congrats Blazers 🏆

Absolutely THRILLED Ayton is finally out of town. And get to stop hearing how great he is from people that don't regularly (or at all) watch him play.

Well, why did they draft him and give him a giant contract then?
Hoping he'd be the modern day David Robinson and not play with the effort and softness of a late career Robert Parrish.

One of the worst contracts in the league. So so happy he's out of town and got some rotation pieces for him.

Well, if you found frustration with Ayton, I just can't wait for your review of Nurk after the season is over. :lmao:
Breaking Ayton's salary into smaller more manageable pieces is a big win for the Suns.

I think it's underrated how much of a turnstile Lillard has been but as someone else pointed out, no one is in a better position to cover for that than the Bucks.

i will miss jrue a lot i loved his d but we had an issue with miami matchup wise and an even bigger issue with anteater wanting the move so this changes the buck dynamic a bit as a team makes them harder to guard and keeps the best player in the nba happy so i will give it a chance to work take that to the bank brohans

In the regular season sure. Once you get deeper into the playoffs it might be a huge problem.

New Orleans

Jrue on Dallas would look pretty nice...just dont think they have enough to get him. Hardy + a first feels pretty meh.

I don't think it works at all on the court with Luka and Kyrie. They would get killed on the boards and defensively.
I think it would be a great fit, hypothetically. He would be the starting shooting guard, take the toughest assignment defensively 1-3. Each of the three is a plus rebounder for their positions. Each can shoot and handle the ball making a pretty seamless bench where one of the three would always be on the court. It's almost ideal for Dallas. The issue would be that Dallas would have to include Holmes and Hardaway who are both dead weight for the next two years and they only have one real pick to trade which is a nonstarter.

They are good rebounders for their positions, but would still lack the size to go against Denver, Lakers and other top teams in the west. Plus imagine Luka trying to play defense on the wing players in the playoffs. That would be a disaster. Would it help regular season against mediocre and bad teams? Sure, but Dallas wants to win now.

Another bonus from this trade is that my son actually called me from college (like, an actual phone call on his phone to my phone) when he saw the news. We haven't spoken in a month. I cut off a work call I was on when I saw his call on my mobile thinking it was some sort of emergency.

This is kind of a worthless conversation as it'll never happen BUT right now the Mavs closing lineup is probably Irving, Hardaway (Josh Green?), Doncic, Grant Williams, and Maxi Kleber. Jrue Holiday would be a huge upgrade for their team in every sense over Hardaway - they would have somebody who can actually guard 1-3 (Williams is okay against bigger 3s), they'd have a better shooter, and somebody who can also handle the ball. If they could pull it off, it would be a no-brainer trade.

I love Jrue, but his offensive impact really took a dip from his regular season output over the past couple playoffs. Plus, the Buck main issue in the playoffs the past few years has been that their offense has bogged down and been easier to defend. There will definitely be a drop on defense (though they still have Giannis and Lopez protecting the paint), but Lillard’s offensive impact should more than offset that drop and give the Bucks a greater playoff ceiling.

That's the single biggest reason the Bucks had to make a move like this. Jrue is a beast, but he's not a true point guard that creates efficient offense. Add in subpar shooting when the best teams and their game planned playoff defense are activated and Holiday just didn't perform well enough.

Dame Time solves the non-Giannis offense creation and is a noted, all-time killer in the clutch. It should also free up Middleton more and provide additional space in the paint for the Freak to do his thing.

The Bucks trading away their 2029 unprotected 1st round pick and unprotected swap rights in 2028 & 2030 to Portland is going to be a problem for Milwaukee. Gotta give to get though. At least the franchise is throwing future commodities in pursuit of another championship. Dame Time!!

i will miss jrue a lot
No doubt. Without the big trade with New Orleans a few years ago the Bucks don't have the regular season success they've had (with Middleton & Lopez missing so many games) and they certainly wouldn't have won the title a few years ago. Jrue Holiday was an invaluable piece of that 2021 championship.

Holiday's defense was all-world, his steady presence and professionalism could be counted on, and his fearlessness in the Finals against the Suns will never be forgotten in Milwaukee.

Jrue Holiday ♥️

Marc Spears said Dame’s agent reached out to Raptors and Bucks 10 days ago to let them know he’d be fine going there. I guess the Toronto deal was pretty close.

Good luck defending the Giannis/Dame pick 'n roll.

And Giannis can happily say goodbye to the WALL defense teams have been throwing at him since Toronto deployed it on him in the 2019 ECF. This is going to unlock so much for the Bucks. Two of the league's six 30 point scorers now on the same squad with Khash Midrange Middleton as a 3rd wheel who'll never see another double team. Whoosh, fun times

its sort of the basketball thread subtitle take that to the bank brohans

If anyone is going to trade for Jrue it should be the Celtics. He would fit perfectly as a slight upgrade to Smart. Not sure it happens, but the Celtics are already all in, might as well.

Come on, Brad, make it happen!

I've been a massive fan of Jrue since he landed with the Bucks.

Jrue needs to come back to the sixers and bring the process full circle.

Seems to be the 76er way. Sell for pennies, buy for dollars.

Seriously though, what can the 76ers offer that Portland wants? Don't say Harden because they don't want him anywhere near that young team.

Harden wouldn't like our strippers.
Most strip clubs per capita in the US.

Yeah, thanks Tips. I live here. Cancels nothing of what I just said.

This is exactly right. The Bucks have needed a stone cold shooter since then. Jrue was awesome and they don't win the title without him but the competition has gotten better. This Bucks team doesn't even win the title if Durant's shoe wasn't so freaking big that his last second three was a two by inches, or he knocks them out in the second round in 2021. I know the injuries were a factor in the last two years, but like I said, everyone else got better. These guys haven't been able to do it again and if they enter this year with the same team that couldn't win it the last 2 years, they were asking for disappointment.

The Bucks will miss Jrue's D, but let's be real, they still have Giannis and Brook back there cleaning up a lot of mistakes. They will still be a top tier defensive team, but now they have 2 absolute beasts on offense.

Jrue makes sense for Toronto.

Raptors probably going to have to choose between Og (player option) and Siakam (UFA) end of season anyway. As long as it doesn't involve losing ****, makes sense for Raps.

Jrue makes sense for almost any team that wants to win because he is a positive factor on both ends of the floor and a great teammate. Unless you just don't have a fit for him in the lineup, every team wants him.

GM - honest question. Did the blazers do better with this trade than what Miami offered? They got one pick, an underachieving center, and jrue who they are now looking to flip. Is this better than herro and 2 picks and possibly a guy like jovic? the pick swaps are never going to be i their favor. maybe Miami didn’t offer that much but I think Cronin was more in the FU mode to Riley than maximizing value to Portland.
