So assuming Dame to Miami is going to happen, what realistically can they even give up for him?
It's not going to be pretty. I was playing around with the trade machine and came up with Lowry, Herro, Jovic, Jaquez, and Martin with 3 firsts for Dame + Nurkic.
I'm not sure how this works with the trading picks rules but Miami owes there 2025 to OKC but it's lottery protected and it then conveys the next year unprotected if not in 2025. Does that preclude them from trading either pick?
Interesting,...
"The Trail Blazers do not plan to cooperate with Damian Lillard on his trade request to the Heat, per @wojespn : – Portland “open for business everywhere in the league” on trading Lillard. – Blazers seeking a combination of young players, draft picks and cap relief. – Miami has no advantage over any other team because of Lillard’s demands."
Sounds like a little bit of posturing. Again, I’m a heat fan so I’m jaded, but Portland fans (GM) if lillard after being the good soldier asks for this do you give him the finger? I’m not saying you “give him away” but Miami note offering just Haywood highsmith and the ghost of Chris Bosh here…
I have yet to see that Lillard has asked for a trade to a specific destination? Just that he demanded a trade.
What I am seeing is he wants to go to Miami. Portland is saying "we are open to offers from everyone". Evidently the two sides are working, but they may need a third team bc: 1) Portland is trying to unload another contract with Dames', and 2) Herro is in the deal but He may not be going to Portland (BC they need frontcourt help more than another guard) so Miami is trying to ship Herro to someone for a Big for Portland.
Again, these deals aren't easy, but I do find it interesting if Lilliard went about this above board (unlike guys like Kyrie or Durant that give their teams the finger after not really doing much to get them anywhere) and Portland is posturing themselves like he is some ungrateful ******* or something. I kind of disagree with the concept that Portland doing Lillard this way will affect how they get FA in the future bc those guys just want the paycheck. A few teams value loyalty.
Almost every other team has more to offer than Miami. I really doubt Lillard goes to Miami unless there is a really creative 3 team deal. Portland needs to make a good business deal for them first and should not get fleeced just to accomodate Dame.
Probably true if Dame didn't care where he goes. He wants to go to Miami at this point. You, as a team, are taking on a 140 million dollar player to put on your payroll and lead your team. You want him to be "unhappy" in a league where players tend to have the power? Any team that offers up more than Miami is going to need to have a pitch available to Dame that "this is what you get if you come here", and part of that has to be a championship shot.
Again, I'm just talking this out. Even if we don't get Dame, we have made some decent moves so far to keep us in the playoff conversation. Dame makes us the team to beat in the east rather than top 4-5
