2023 Las Vegas Raiders - RIP Jack - one of the greatest Super Bowl moments ever (4 Viewers)

Fair enough. I take these stories with a big dose of salt, as they are impossible to prove, especially when a massive deal would need to be made to make it happen. Much easier to believe if Stroud was available at 7 and we just took someone else.
Even if they had to sell the farm , when you look at all the moves McGoofy made its clear he was screwing up lefty and right.

Dang, this article makes me think Mork should've punted McD, but kept Zieg.
Thats what i was thinking, maybe they bring him back in some compacity
That ain't happening.

Champ is the going to be the guy. That is pretty much a lock in my book right now. The only question is if AP gets the nod at HC as well which I think we need to see the rest of the season to have a good idea but currently I am leaning towards the decision will be to bring him back.
I said ''in some capacity'' , maybe as a high priced scout ?
He was just fired from his GM role. There is no possible way he is back with the Raiders. Teams don't immediately bring back fired front office people and then have them report to the guy that used to be under them.
He was fired because he came as a package deal with McGoofy , from everything im reading Zeigler is really good at his job of evaluating talent . The Raiders are anything but conventional , especially Mark Davis , hell im seeing rumors hes interested in Guden again lol.
You gotta stop gobbling up all these unsubstantiated rumors. This is exactly why I’m questions some that article from hondo. It’s a fluff piece beyond belief for Z. Everything in the article is what the fan base was screaming for plus the stroud is a generational talent. That’s some awesome hindsight!
I get the feeling zeig was one of hondo's sources up until the firing. just because it's a puff piece, doesn't mean the information isn't accurate. hondo has stated that he always looks to confirm information he gets and makes a deal with any source that if they lie to him he reveals who gave him the bad info. so readers know why he reported something if it turns out completely false.

maybe zeig felt he could make the trade up to 2, but that doesn't mean the other team agrees. if you offer up enough there is a price for nearly anything, but there are teams who won't budge if they want a player and are set on it.
That’s entirely possible. But reporters need to make money. Which means writing stories that get clicks. Hondo is usually very critical and unbiased. He definitely comes across as a “just the facts” reporter. It just gave me pause because it was a laundry list of fan gripes of the most obvious issues the team has/had. And even if Z screams from the mountain top about stroud after the fact, it’s still hindsight. Was he really saying he was a generational talent? No one else was. Why didn’t we hear something along the lines of they tried to trade up, but couldn’t find a partner. Revisionist history is easy to nail. We do it all the time with raider drafting. :bag:
Im sure Billy B had final say over all draft picks in NE . That philosophy clearly followed McGoofy to LV. I can see Z pushing to trade up and grab Stroud and McGoofy wanting no part of it ,which shows hes an egotistical jerk ,as we are all learning on a daily. So it never got any draft day traction or or even leading up to the draft , that doesnt change the fact that Z may have really wanted to try and get him. Im guessing the price tag would have been way to high to justify moving up to # 2 , so its water under the bridge . There were a lot of examples showing how controlling McGoofy was regarding the fullback position and the QB situation. The now fired ex coach did a number on the team during his brief stay .

We can hypothesize all we want. It’s all we have.

With the historic dysfunctionality of the raiders. They need as many hands on the wheel as possible. If some one like harbaugh comes in, he will demand total control. No thanks.

I’d love to see a new competent OC and probably a new HC. I’m not sold on sound bite AP yet. . Leave champ and PG in place and see what they can do.

graham will be gone if there is a change at HC. no newly hired head coach wants a coordinator left over the last regime that the players love and will get credit over themselves. they want to bring in their own guys and be praised when it works out and feel threatened when a coordinator is doing well enough to look like a replacement.

remember how defensive minded head coach del rio did musgrave when the offense was outclassing the defense?

True. But maybe mork will force the issue. Either way, AP hasn’t shown me much. Other than awesome sound bites and fun practices. So we’re probably looking at another new regime. :sigh:

Champ was going to be the guy before The Doosh brought in Z as a package. He was always Mark Davis’s guy and a great back up plan.

Then why fire him in the first place? They could have fired McDaniels and kept Ziegler. They weren't obligated to fire them both just because they were hired at the same time. They are not bringing back the GM they just fired because of an article that Hondo Carpenter wrote. Let's say the Raiders did decide they wanted to bring him back, which is really not even remotely possible right now. Look at it from Ziegler's perspective........he would be looking to come back and report to the guy that used to report to him?

I'm not saying teams don't ever bring back former coaches or other employees, but not so soon after they were fired. It's just really not possible now.
Fair enough, im not saying that would happen, it was just a spaghetti throw after reading how much Zeigler liked Mark Davis and others , im sure hes pissed right now that he has anything to do with McGoofy as its reported they butted heads a lot about personal moves . I couldnt care less what Z does or doesnt do. I like Champ .
This is why Davis needs to make his next GM the one who makes the final call on all or at least most personnel decisions. Head Coaches making personnel moves just doesn’t work often enough to justify that type of power structure. Gruden is a good coach but terrible evaluating talent, McDummy was even worse. Even Belichick can’t do both jobs successfully anymore. If Davis has learned anything over the past 12 years, is hire a GM and put him in charge of ALL player acquisitions, with the council of the HC obviously, but make the GM have the power to give the final say.
I prefer this system, but it does lead to coaches leaving if they don't get their way. conflicts between coach and GM anytime the GM makes a call against the coach and it doesn't work out for whatever reason. the GM will feel his job is to find the talent and it's up to the coaching to make use of the talent. the coach may feel he's limited by what he's being given.

everyone always thinks they know better. especially if it's an experienced head coach who has had success at the nfl level already. head coaches probably feel like any failings they had in the past were due to personnel decisions they didn't make. people always want more control if it's their name being stamped on the product.
I will worry about losing a HC when we get a good one.

Its amazing how people see the same thing but have 2 completely different views , like witnessing a car crash, cops ask 2 people who saw the same accident and they get 2 different responses .

I see a team that won 2 games in a row against a good defense and then against a great defense .

Then i saw a road game across the nation against a team that scores crazy points at home and it was a close game that came down to one play at the end . Then a game that they made the game look easy at first then didint make the in game defensive adjustments they needed to, lesson learned .

AP`s job is to get the players ready to play , he does that , they have more energy and enthusiasm than ive seen in a long while . The OC is in a tough spot , they ditched almost all of the McGoofy offensive plays so its a bland offense right now . Lets see how they look after the bye , im guessing they arent sitting around relaxing and hanging out until Dec 10th ....i bet they are working like devils to practice new plays and schemes . AOC finally gets to settle into some nice first team practice sessions . The team will get healthy ,those that need it the most.

I think we see a run like we saw with Rich Bisaccia , the team has that same get up and go under AP . Id love to see AP back and Champ, and bring Bisaccia back to coach special teams again. Keep the DC and find an OC guru . Draft a top QB to compete and the rest on defense.

guy deserves another shot at being a head coach. he was winning in miami even when the GM and owner were trying to tank. downsides are that he's suing the league and that's never a good idea if you plan to continue competing in the league you're suing. he'd also most likely rip apart the offense to build up his defense the way he likes, but I like what he's doing over there in minnesota. would be nice for maxx to finally have help and a head coach with a defensive mindset.

I'm not completely against a defensive HC, but I do think it's probably better to have an offensive HC.

If you have a young QB I'd highly prefer an offensive HC.

Also, it's easier to have continuity with an offensive HC. Most teams seem to prefer offensive HCs and if your offense is good it won't be long before your OC leaves to be a HC.

o'connell is the future GOAT. another maxx crosby type. drafter later and destined to be greater. never mind the doubters and the haters.

our young qb needs a better line in front of him and so does jacobs. the weapons appear adequate.

anybody think cj stroud or any other "top quarterback" would be doing better than o'connell if put in the exact same situation? I don't see anybody performing like a superstar under these circumstances. it seems ridiculous at times the expectations. I'll wait until these last 5 games play out before writing the kid off. carr was a 2nd rounder and got 8 seasons along with countless excuses with no real competition brought in to compete against.

as of now I'm all for sticking with aoc and building up the team with the extra cap room from his low cap hit.

I too am an AOC believer, but let's not use Stroud as a comp. I haven't tracked them recently, but beginning of season, most of HOU OL was hurt, and while Nico Collins and Demian Pierce are good players, they aren't Devante and Jacobs. Stroud has the NFL mobility and pocket awareness that AOC lacks, which is why CJ survived and thrived despite a bad OL.

That said, AOC is growing and showing flashes. But he needs to process pre- and post-snap faster. Faster than himself so far, and faster than Stroud. He needs to process like a Manning or Brady or Rivers. If he can't get to that level of processing speed, his days are numbered. Too early to tell, b/c he has shown flashes of exactly that, amongst a lot of not that.

The raiders are better than a first start Tommy Devito led giants.
theyre about even with the train wreck that is the Zach wilson led jets
in Miami the D kept us in the game. A missed fg and a goal line stand keeps it from being a 17 point loss
i was at the KC game. Good start! Followed by an absolute *** whooping.
vikings are beatable, but will be favored
dolts are beatable if the d plays out of their mind. The o can’t hang wit( them
chief is a loss
The Colts might be fighting for a playoff spot, and will be favored
The donkeys might be fighting for a playoff spot, and will surely be pissed that the raiders beat them earlier and should also be favored.

so if the Raiders win two of those games, I consider it a success, but they will be the underdog in all of them. As you said the offense is incredibly vanilla. and it really shows. maybe you’re right and the bye week will help, but I have my doubts. I don’t have much faith in AOC Ot Bo

Future GOAT? 😂😂😂😂. He makes Joe Flacco look like Michael vick. He makes statues look fluid. I like the price point, but he needs to improve a ton in pocket awareness, pre snap reads and getting the ball out FAST. hes in the NFL now. He’s not playing Iowa state. He CAN get it out quick, but I think his head gets in the way. We’ll see if he can get to above average let alone goat status

I understand why so many Raiders fans are the glass is half empty types , its been a rough road . For some reason i see this situation as the glass is half full instead. I wasnt even that upset when the Raiders lost the last 2 games because im looking at the team energy , they are positive and im feeding off of their energy . It feels a lot better than wallowing in a pool of negativity .

Bye week boredom post
Numbers to know
  • WR Davante Adams needs 10 touchdowns to surpass Raiders alumnus Tim Brown in career receiving touchdowns and rank ninth on the NFL's all-time receiving touchdowns list.
  • DE Maxx Crosby needs one sack to reach 50.0 career sacks and become one of just five players in franchise history to do so.
  • RB Josh Jacobs needs two rushing touchdowns to surpass Pete Banaszak and move into second in franchise history in career rushing TDs.
  • Jacobs needs 396 rushing yards to surpass Mark van Eeghen and move into second in franchise history in career rushing yards.

Raiders beat blocked me on twitter. I couldn’t be prouder.

Bro, you perhaps don't realize this, but your energy toward this team is super negative. I don't blame you, but others (perhaps rightfully) will. Just saying for some perspective. Take or leave.

😂

i get that. I’m hella jaded. But it’s just reality. as far as raiders beat, are you familiar with some of their recent work? I laughed at them and said they were nothing more than click bait. That’s what got me blocked.

According to them, Gruden is coming back because he’s the only person mark trusts. They also said biasachia was going to be coming back if mark trusts his gut.

This will be an interesting game for AOC. He is coming off a bye so he should have received plenty of reps and coaching to correct flaws in his game. He will be facing a high-pressure defense that brings pressure from everywhere. How he responds will go a long towards deciding his role with the team moving forward.

Also a big game for the staff. Does the team look better? Are they still playing hard? Has the staff added any new wrinkles to take advantage of the talent (specifically Meyers).

Hearing a lot of chatter about shutting Madd Maxx down for the season , even tho the Raiders are technically still in playoff contention.

We all know Maxx wont tap out on his own, should the team shut him down ? Im in the camp that a man knows his own limitations and he should make that decision on his own .

What say you?

98% chance this season will end without a playoff berth even with Maxx. 99.99999% chance this season will end without a Superbowl berth.

Shut him down.

Absolutely. LV needs to be smart and look ahead for once. Protect the only young asset that is on the team and please,, please, please trade away Adams and rebuild the team using Houston as the blueprint.

So lets say the Raiders play great and get some help within the division, and they get a wild card spot, do you really think the Raiders dont play Maxx in the playoff game ? He would kill someone lol

Raiders ruled out OT Kolton Miller (shoulder) for Week 14 against the Vikings.
Miller missed two games with the same shoulder injury earlier this season but returned in Week 12. He apparently suffered a setback in his return, as he was unable to practice after the team’s Week 13 bye and has since been ruled out. Jermaine Eluemunor is listed behind Miller on the depth chart and will likely draw the start in his absence.

Raiders listed EDGE Maxx Crosby (knee) as questionable for Week 14 against the Vikings.
Raiders interim head coach Antonio Pierce said on Friday that he expects Crosby to play. A knee injury held Crosby out of the first two practices to start the week, but he was able to get in a limited session on Friday and sounds like he’ll be ready to go. In addition to Crosby, the Raiders also listed CB Brandon Facyson (shin) and LB Kana’i Mauga (knee) as questionable for Week 14.

he really should have sat out the last game. it was pointless with how things ended anyway.

I guess it was nice to get a sack on mahomes

I think this week makes a huge impact on whether AP gets a legit look at a permanent job. So often in the past we come out of a bye week and lay an absolute egg. It's really inexcusable at the highest level of anything. This is a very winnable game, we're not playing Philly here. If we drop a deuce after 10 days to prepare against a pretty evenly matched team AP doesn't deserve the full time gig. It's not 100% required we win for him to get it, we just can't look like the ghosts of raider past. He's done/maintained a lot of really good stuff - playing hard, having fun, playing clean with few penalties and mental mistakes, etc. My biggest concern would be how to ensure offensive continuity.

I really hope we hire an offensive guy. Look at Josh Allen - he lost his OC and he's gone to ****. Trevor Lawrence was going to be great but he turned as soon as they got Pederson in there. What might Zach Wilson have turned into had he been in SFO instead of Lance - would we even know who Brock Purdy is? KC, PHI, and SFO can keep churning out new OC/HC for other teams because the brain in their system is retained. If a team like PIT or BAL or NEP (post-GOAT) lose their OC it sets their offense back 2-3 years (and we ain't no PIT/BAL/NEP right now).

I don't care if it's a young hotshot like Ben Johnson or a semi-retread like Doug Pederson (who's out there?) as long as they bring their own system in and maintain offensive contiunity for whatever QB we end up having to build around.

Maxx Crosby isnt even human.

Hes already a Raiders legend on par with guys like Howie Long and Matt Millen....and myself of course .

Every turnover is reviewed.................except if it's a turnover by the Raiders, especially one that essentially ends a game and gives a loss to the Raiders. In those type of cases we just move along and give the other team the ball.

What's to hate? D is legit, we knew we had a QB problem. We solve that we're in the mix. A couple of years ago we lose this thing by 30.

We should be hoping the Raiders continue to play hard but lose the rest of the games. This team needs a lot of pieces.
Yeah, it’s more complicated than just not having a QB. Cleveland has a QB problem and they’re 8-5. It’s an overall talent problem and an offensive scheme problem. McZ is to blame because this current roster wasn’t built to win this season. They thought they had time to rebuild, time to find a QB. AP is left to clean up the mess, and he’s done a good job with the hand he’s been dealt. I’m not sold he keeps the job, I see wholesale changes again next year as a new coaching staff moves in.
