So obviously not nearly as much to be excited about at last year. But I do like some of what they did in the draft.

- The McDonald pick was weird for a few reasons, but i have to trust that Saleh knows how to evaluate players at that spot. Just have to hope they shuffle things around to give everyone the snaps they need (lots of talk about JFM moving inside full time. Maybe Clemmons as well) so that he can get PT and develop.

- Seems like there are some divided opinions on the Tippmann pick. They couldn't come up of this draft without a plug and play O-line starter, so hopefully that's what he is. (at either center or guard)

- Warren seems to have some tools but not a huge ceiling. (decent length and lateral movement but not a lot of strength and mediocre technique) I'm all for taking swings at O-lineman in the middle rounds and trying to develop them, so no complaints here. Between him and Mitchell from last year, hopefully one of them hits and becomes a good swing tackle. Obviously they'll need more than that if Becton and/or Brown dont hold up, but we'll cross that bridge when we get to it.

- Lots of good vibes surrounding the Abanikanda pick. Big time size/speed combo and he's a 1 cut runner that fits the system. Home run hitter for sure. Not sure how versatile he is (and he'll probably have to play ST's to have a shot of playing this year....until someone gets hurt) but lots of people seemed to really like him. (and it seems like some Dynasty guys on this board were disappointed he didn't land in a spot with a clearer path to PT)

- Doesn't seem like there's a lot of chatter surrounding the 2 6th rounders. You're just taking flyers at that point anyway. Hopefully 1 of them hits as a depth piece.

- On the other hand......LOTS of chatter about Kuntz. Absolute physical freak TE with a literal perfect athleticism score. Started his career at Penn State and then followed his offensive coordinator to Old Dominion (after being stuck behind Freirmuth on the depth chart). Watching some video...the kid is freakishly fluid for someone that size. Apparently the issues are injury (he had a knee last year but is apparently fine now) as well as some drops and motor issues. But looking at the tape, its not hard to see the potential. Will be one of the guys to watch during the pre-season for sure.

Anyone catch Rodgers at the Rangers game - huge ovation and he seemed to love it. I have a feeling hes going to love it here and stay longer than people think.

Love those videos of JD/Saleh talking to the draft picks when they are selected...gets me going every time....except when they put Woody on the phone - just cringy every single time.

Yeah, Woody really is just the worst. Dude.....just sign the checks and keep your mouth shut. Nobody wants you around. We all think you're weird.

And it always cracks me up how you NEVER see him without a hat on (usually a bright white one with a suit, which always looks odd). Dude, you're a 76 year old billionaire. Everyone knows you're bald and nobody cares. As a fellow folically challenged person, I get it. But unless you're on the golf course or otherwise outside on a sunny day, the hat looks ridiculous.

Yeah baseball cap with a suit is rarely a good look. Maybe a Sinatra style hat or a nice sombrero.

One of those edible nacho sombreros would look good on him.

So on Saturday, Douglas said they would announce their decision on Becton's 5th year by Monday. Well, Monday came and went and still nothing. Deadline is 4Pm today.

I've always just assumed they would decline it (I mean....the guy hasn't played in 2 years) but now I'm sort of leaning the other way.

Upside of exercising it-- he comes back healthy, plays up to his potential, you have him under contract for another year (2024 season) and could always franchise him after that (if his play/health dictated it)

Downside- He continues to get hurt and you owe him $13M for 2025.

Upside of declining---- you can cleanly cut bait with him after this year if he still can't get healthy/in-shape or doesn't play well

Downside- you run the risk of him playing well and then either having to negotiate an extension a year from now....or having to franchise him (or risk losing him for nothing)

I still think this is a hard decision. You spent a high pick on him and he has shown potential. He currently appears to be in excellent shape. IMO, you kick the can down the road as long as possible in terms of paying this guy big long-term money. This year, the option and potentially 2 franchise tags if you dont feel you can trust him. I'd hate to see this be a Mo Wilkerson situation where he gets paid and immediately goes in the tank

I'd rather them not pick up the option. If he plays well enough to the point of wanting to retain him, it's a good problem to have. Would rather not lock up more cap space next year if it isn't happening for him once and for all.

They declined the option - if he balls out its gonna take a big contract!

Yeah, I understand both sides (and to be fair, I dont understand all the cap ramifications....nor do I get a chance to see/talk to Becton and watch how he works) but the downside of this just seems to far outweigh the downside of taking the option.

They always have the franchise tag to bail them out if he really goes off this year. So its not like they''re gonna lose him for nothing right away.

Schefter reporting Cobb to the Jets on a one-year deal.

I knew this was coming, and you did, too.
I figured - as long as it is a dirt cheap deal - which I assume it is - why not. Likely spells the end of Mims definitely - likely Corey Davis as well. Not sure how he has avoided the cut so long.

Anyone see Rodgers at the Knicks game last pm with Sauce - he also told McAfee how awesome it is here and sometimes he has to "pinch himself" that hes here. Sounds and looks like a guy who is reborn and having a blast. I am extremely confident that health permitting this is closer to a 3-4 r run vs a 1 and done.

I’m a Packer fan that thinks Rodgers is going to be awesome for Jets. He will be playing on spite and that is when he is at his best. I threw a decent amount of money on Jets winning the East, and he instantly makes them a Super Bowl contender. His act wore very thin but I have nothing but thanks for what he did for Green Bay. I consider him the best passer I have ever seen (previously was Dan Marino).

It's interesting now that every team in the AFC East has a better QB than the Patriots.

Adding Cobb is a joke, but if it makes Aaron happy and he's cheap sobeit. He'll be WR4 or 5 so no big deal.
As a Bills fan I am shaking in my boots after hearing this news.

:coffee:
If I were a Bills fan Id be more concerned that the Jets beat them last season with one of the worst QBs in NFL history , no Breece Hall nor AVT. The free ride in the AFC East is over. Gonna be a fight week in and out.

C'mon, don't you remember that their guy on special teams was injured? (I'm kidding, it was Milano and a safety, but that was the actual excuse given.)

Bit of a shock that they are keeping Corey Davis. I really liked the signing a few years ago but he just cant stay healthy. Ill bet he was going to be cut if they landed OBJ - stay of execution - Would be a very deep WR room if he can stay healthy.

sigh.....Becton was doing SO well

You haven't played in 2 years bro. Just keep your mouth shut and work.
obviously irked that they didnt pick up his option and he is not promised a starting LT spot - the only question is how could he possibly be irked? Hopefully this motivates him but so far he has earned nothing.

he's probably thinking "hey, I lost the weight. I'm working hard, etc".

But that's not enough given the past two years. Play well and you'll get your contract.

The early schedule....yikes

I know that prime time games are a good thing.....but man I hate them. By Monday night at 10.....I'm wiped

Wow.

That schedule is burly early. Bills, Cowboys, Pats, KC all in a row.

Looks like we're AFC East (6), AFC West (4), NFC East (4), Texans, Browns, Falcons.

We'll find out how good we are rather quickly. New York media can turn on a guy and it can go south quickly. Let's hope that doesn't happen.

Broncos then Eagles and bye week.

3-3 would be really asking a lot. I'd take it and play out the rest of the season when the schedule gets a touch more manageable.

Becton blaming the Jets playing him at RT in camp for his injury. I'm sure it had nothing to do with the 420 lbs he was carrying.

Kid looks to be in phenomenal shape (based on the pictures over the weekend) but man does he love to run his mouth. Just don't see how he ever signs a 2nd contract

Summer doldrums bump with the likelihood of Jets getting selected. 1 request and 1 question.

1) if you attend any of the open training camp sessions and see the Hard Knocks camera please hold up a penny so we know how many FBGs from here make it into the footage

2) please update on us on the complete full back depth chart and the titanic battle we expect to see on our television screens

How you guys feeling about the Hard Knocks redux?

Cheers
