2023 Philadelphia Eagles - Complete waste of a season finally comes to an end. (11 Viewers)

I have to send major props to both the Eagles and Cowboys fans that took the cupcakes and muffins as good natured ribbing with some exaggeration thrown in for humor effect. You both have good teams and I;m looking forward tot he playoffs that include both teams along with SF and Detroit.

Slay had knee surgery this week?! WTF?! He's out Monday.
And likely out until the post-season, it seems. Won’t go on IR in case they are in a must win Week 18, but if they have a seed locked in by then, or sooner, he probably wont be back before playoffs.

Oof - no Slay and more injuries…

Seattle definitely can stress a secondary. What went from a pretty comfortable win, has gone to must see TV.

I think we lose tomorrow, then win the last 3.

Need Buffalo to take care of business tomorrow badly.
I don't think so. Seattle banged up also. Geno probably going to play but he's not 100%. Adams banged up. Spoon probably out. We better freaking win this game or just get the off-season meetings scheduled for the 2nd week of January.

This is a great thread on the issues with the offensive game planning.

How to Fix the #Eagles Offense

The Passing Game
Jalen Hurts has an expected completion percentage of 61.6% this season, the 2nd lowest in the NFL. Hurts is presented with the 2nd most difficult throws on average in the entire NFL. If you want to know how to fix the offense, start with finding some easy buttons in the passing game. Hurts Completion Percentage Over Expectation is +4.9%, the highest in the NFL, which says that right now the system is making it as difficult as possible on the playmakers and the playmakers are performing above what is expected.

So what are those easy buttons?
Throw the ball between the numbers - The Eagles are 8th in yards per attempt and 6th in success rate when throwing between the numbers, but they are 30th in % of passes thrown between the numbers. Life gets much easier for a defense when they don't have to worry about covering 60% of the field.

Running Back Screens - The Eagles are 4th in the NFL in success rate on RB screens but they rank 28th in usage

Slants - The Eagles are 7th in success rate on Slants but they rank 22nd in usage

Curls - The Eagles rank 1st in success rate on Curls but they rank 28th in usage

The Running Game
QB Runs - There are 10 teams with at least 10 designed QB runs (sneaks excluded). The Eagles rank 10th in success rate (36.6%) and 7th in EPA/attempt (-0.08) but they have the 4th most such runs. Either Jalen Hurts is healthy and can run through contact or he isn't. If he is, then use him. If he isn't, stop calling runs for him and zone reads for him to slide down behind the line of scrimmage.

Pony Personnel - The Eagles have the 6th highest rushing success rate in the NFL out of Pony Personnel (2 RBs on the field). They have the 2nd lowest amount of rushing attempts from this package. (They also have the 3rd highest passing success rate from Pony Personnel but are 18th in usage).

Run Blocking - The Eagles offensive line ranks 18th in blown block percentage over the last 4 weeks. The OL is too good to be that bad. At a certain point you just have to execute.

Stop Turning the Ball Over - The Eagles have fumbled 9 times in the last 5 games and thrown 2 interceptions.

The Bottom Line
The Eagles offense has star players all over the field, but they have used them as a crutch instead of doing everything possible schematically to put them in positions to succeed. Everything that has been off with the offense can be fixed and it needs to be fixed fast.

The offense has a nice schedule of defenses to get their swagger back and figure out some things before the playoffs, when they need to be full throttle to carry a defense that is much harder to fix (more on that later).

pretty eye popping numbers
if we dont see some real improvement i dont see how the OC keeps his job
I was most surprised by the expected comp rate to actual. Shows how well Hurts is throwing the ball. Now you can still argue about him making the right reads, but accuracy is no longer an issue for him.

his accuracy was great all last season
Yeah, but "some people" still won't give him credit. This shows it wasn't a one year fluke.
The Guy has the best Oline and WRS in the NFL yet somehow gets praised for putting up underwhelming QB #'s ... He threw for 22 TDs in his "MVP" caliber year ... 2 less than Daniel Jones rookie season playing behind the Worst Oline and WRS in the NFL ... I mean c'mon. He's on Pace for 25 TDs and 13 Ints and 5 fumbles lost ... still with the best oline and still with the best WRS and somehow he is still in the "MVP" discussion with guys that are on pace for 30 plus TDs and less ints on far worse teams!?!?!?

The Truth is Hurts is statistically a top 12 QB on easily one of the best teams in the NFL and all of his metrics are down this year.
If he was on a bottom 10-12 team he'd be a backup QB
Remind me again of actually what Daniel Jones stats were this year before he got hurt?
Dont worry about Jones ... The teams are night day. Jones got hurt because he was hit more than any QB in football up to that point.
You should be concerned with Hurts .., He's mediocre in the best possible situation and that's not going to last forever as we are starting to see.
So you are saying you are more concerned with the Eagles and their QB than your own team. That's hilarious. Tommy Devito has 8 TDs. If he gets 7 more somehow, it might be time to pay him $45M per year in a contract extension.

My team is 10-3. Our concerns are about how far we go in the playoffs and your concerns are "what do we do next to not be a bottom feeder"
Maybe ... Devito has a higher QB rating than Hurts
He just might! We have a much better team though overall as you continuously point out though, so I guess you are expecting to get ran TF over 2 of the last 3 weeks of the season.

And I wouldn't surprise me to see your average GM with average roster building skills give out way above average contracts to players that don't deserve it, further wrecking your chances of any future hope or success. Gonna be a Happy Holiday season for us Eagles fans doing so trust me

Trying to follow along with the thread not just this post. Hoping I Have this right.

Eagles fans crying tough schedule still

Flexing on Giants fans now

We saw the same tough talk the last 2 weeks

But have been beaten 2 weeks in a row by 20+

Looks like more humble pie is on the way

Happy holidays

Cmon man the giants might be good in 5 years. Keep him on

Sources: The #Eagles have made a change to their defensive process. DC Sean Desai is in the coaching box... and Matt Patricia will call in plays to the green dot.

Going to ignore the house burning down for a moment. Since Sirianni loves pandering to fans/players, what are the odds Penny gets a chance to play against his former team tomorrow night?

Wow, crazy how under the radar that went. I saw the tweet and thought it was a fake Glazer account and had to check.

I like it. Why not at this point?

The #Eagles defense under Sean Desai -- since Week 8

PPG allowed -- 30.0 (31st in #NFL )
Sack rate -- 5.1% (31st)
YPG allowed -- 428.2 (32nd)
Pass YPG allowed -- 297.8 (32nd in NFL)
3rd down defense -- 54.8% (32nd)
Red zone defense -- 78.3% (32nd)

WTF... I had no idea he was that bad. He got a lot of praise for his "halftime adjustments" earlier in the year as we seemed to shut down teams in the 2nd half. But those numbers are really bad. I like the move.

So from reading and talking to people Kevin byard and vets game planned and discussed issues on defense. They brought it to Nicks attention who went to Howie and Lurie. They figured easiest thing to do right now was keep Sean in some sort of role but promote Patricia since he has DC experience or the most out of everyone on staff.

Sounds like there was on going issues with Desia and players were not happy. Putting players in positions to not succeed as well as not taking constructive criticism or ideas well.

Lurie is very adamant about his defense not embarrassing the org and he almost fired Schwartz after the DB because he hated how they played. If Gannon wasn’t hired by Arz Lurie was going to fire Gannon.

We don't really know HOW sick Jalen is. I'm sure he will play if there's any way he can.

This is gonna be just a really really strange game.

- First ever game flexed to a different day
- Both QB's may not play
- Random secret DC-swap
- Penny vs his old team? Maybe?

Gonna be weird.

Interesting. I always think it's interesting when the owner gets involved like this.

If Hurts is conscious today, I think he's playing tomorrow. Without a doubt. I think the only thing weird will be the non stop Jordan flu game hype. Eagles 3 point favorite playing a reeling team with their backup QB.

Geno is out?

I’m a firm believer in flu games. Guys who can muscle it out tend to play better.

Imo, It’s a thing.

I know the assumption is flu, but putting him on his own plane and symptoms getting worse could also be Covid.
It’s 100% Covid. I just got over it and like ten people I know in the Philly area all are also getting over it. No idea what the current requirements/rules are

Hey at least the flex may help us. Jalen definitely wouldn't have played today.

This whole desai thing is shocking but as a fan I’m elated. Patricia is a total douchenozzle as a head coach but he has a history of being a great DC. this may be the shot in the arm this whole team needs
